Sir Archibald

Sir Archibald Lenore
Forty-eight year old male human noble, born in Radasanth, also currently residing there.
As the offspring of Radasanthian nobility, Sir Archibald employs rather high standards for his appearance. Although not as fit as during his military years, his physique still tells tales of heavy training in years past, and he wears it like a true nobleman: with straight back and chin uplifted. Not disdainful of personal hygiene, Archibald's face remains ever-smooth and clean-cut, thin lips curling into a savvy smile while young wrinkles frame twinkling blue eyes, rife with knowledge to share and stories to tell. Near the top of his head, his dark hair has slowly given way to the burden of age, a small patch of round, naked skin growing larger with each passing year. Falling prey to vanity, Sir Archibald prefers donning simple hats to conceal this marring of his otherwise deceptively youthful appearance.
For the remainder, his choice of dress is impeccable, as it must be when roaming amongst the ranks of those who consider themselves of the utmost importance. Expensive Salvarian thread can be found embedded his usual outfit, which comprises a waistcoat colored in dark orchid flavors, even if most would mistake them for simple black. Beneath that, a hand-made, silky blouse, inconspicuous and mousy-brown, topped at the collar with a fluffy cravat of pristine white lace: superfluous from a pragmatic perspective, maybe, but undeniably a proud show of heritage. From the waist down, a set of slightly worn but still serviceable set of greyish breeches cover Sir Archibald's legs, taken over slightly below the knees by tight, brownish kneesocks. When in urban areas, his shoewear shines with the bravado of polished black leather, though he prefers strong traveller's boots for times of research in the Corone wilds.
Librarian and relentless pursuer of new knowledge about Althanas. Fields of interest include: geology, alchemy, mathematics, culture and law, speechcraft, enchanting, astronomy, demonology and divination.Although a librarian of Radasanth's Great Library by occupation, Sir Archibald's mind is far from being as dust-ridden as the tomes he spends most of his nights studying. In daytime, he can usually be found scurrying along the countryside, collecting herbs, taking notes on flora and fauna, or extracting minerals from the nearby foothills. Though his pastimes may seem trivial to passersby, his attention to detail in performing these acts is uncanny, and oft leads to new discoveries about Althanas or its peoples. 'Archie', as most people refer to him outside of his precious library, collects these discoveries in notebooks of his own, storing them separately from the public area of the library - to be compiled into actual books when he feels he has written enough on a subject. Unfortunately, due to his vexingly curious nature, this strict librarian almost never feels that his research is even the least bit done.
Although more knowledgeable than the average scholar on most subjects, Sir Archibald isn't fit to be a teacher. Passing on knowledge to people who aren't in possession of his own superior logical skills is only a frustration, and he lacks any kind of empathy with more simple-minded humans than himself. Members from other races, on the other hand, need to do little other than breathe to attract his attention. Racial disparities in the fields of culture and physiology never cease to interest him, and are the subject of numerous dissertations safely kept with his notebooks in one of the Great Library's many backrooms. In this sense, Sir Archibald is racist against his own species; perhaps misanthropic would be a better description. Due to this mindset, he prefers to work alone or in a superior position, and he does much to avoid the political games played in Radasanth's higher echelons of society.
Has visited nearly every continent Althanas has to offer, with the exception of Berevar and a great deal of Haidian demon territory. He can understand most of the languages Althanas has to offer, and is fluent in speaking Common, Elven and Dwarven dialects.
Being part of Corone nobility by blood, Sir Archibald didn't always have the library as a way to escape from being around the fake, sycophant aristocracy that he learned to detest even as a youngster. Not finding the formal martial training that all children of noble heritage received to his satisfaction, he opted to join the Radasanthian military at the age of sixteen, much against the wishes of his mother. He was quickly faced with the harsh reality of being treated like just any other raw recruit, but he grew to enjoy the sharp wit and in-your-face honesty of his fellow squadmembers. It was also during these years that he ventured out into the countryside for the first few times, out on patrol - where his interest in Althanas's flora and fauna took flight.
His intellectual prowess was swiftly noticed by his superiors, which landed him a place in intelligence gathering. Archie would later remember this as a marvellous era, a decade of enlightenment, and he let go of actual military life more and more as time progressed. It was not long before he was offered a position as researcher in Radasanth's Great Library - an occupation completely in line with Archibald's dreams of discovering more about the planet and its people. It also allowed him to avoid most contact with nobility, of whom his dislike had only grown during his down-to-earth years surrounded by commoners in the army. And so, he has spent the past twenty years roaming the borders of Althanas and other worlds, hungry for new knowledge.
Skills
Photographic Memory
A rather uncommon, inborn trait of some humans is that they can reproduce any works that they have ever seen, be they writings, formulas, or images. Sir Archibald, too, was blessed with this rare skill, and he puts it to good use in his evenings spent studying the tomes of the Great Library.
Logic
Archie has the uncanny ability to build theories and see through to the core of a set of phenomena to discover its inner workings far faster than the average scholar can, by remembering the tiniest details and interlinking them once he has assembled enough material to establish factual causality inbeween. This ability aids him in just about any of his fields of interest, from understanding new languages to predicting how certain ingredients will react when mixed into a new potion.
Equipment
Research Package
A leather bundle that, once unwrapped, reveals an enviable collection of metallic tools useable in all kinds of situations. More generally useful materials include several lockpicks, a scalpel, and a magnifying lens. Also contains a notebook with at least several blank pages to take new notes during travels.
Alchemy Set
Comprising a mortar and pestle, retort, calcinator and alembic to distill potent potions and poisons from the plethora of different natural ingredients that Althanas has to offer.
Gentleman's Cane
A cane not unlike those possessed by about any male noble, made of polished oakwood and painted black, with a bulb of marble near the top. What makes Archie's cane different is that, with a flick of his finger, a needle erupts from the bulb's side, effectively turning the cane into a syringe. The bulb can be opened, allowing Sir Archibald to put in different kinds of potions or poisons.
