Civilized Savagery

Name: Kirthi (kihr'thee) Abeldaughter; Kirthi of Many Faces
Age: ~20 (mid-late twenties human-equivalent)
Race: Orc
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Russet
Height: 5'7”
Weight: 170 lbs
Personality: A quilt sewn of spare cloth. A bolt of linen here and a scrap of silk there, nothing matching but somehow forming an eccentric, beautiful whole. Kirthi is a wild patchwork of thoughts, dreams, and talents, lovingly gathered from the fractured remnants of her past to be reassembled once again.
For those who choose to see it, Kirthi possesses a manic charm. She bears the brand of someone who's been judged so many times that it no longer phases them, and she is unabashedly herself. She is energetic, open and friendly with anyone and everyone, and always willing to lend a hand to a stranger. At the same time she always remains separated from everyone; always an ally but never a confidante.
She possesses wisdom far beyond her years, and sees with eyes that know that nothing is real and everything changes. In spite of this wisdom however, she is still impulsive, and has the tenacity of a bulldog. Though she is slow to anger, her temper contains all the savagery of her ancestry.
Appearance: Kirthi has the stocky, muscular build of her people, as well as brown-olive skin. Her hair is braided crest down the center of her scalp, coarse and black as coal. Her eyes are large and expressive, though inhuman. Her ears are large and lay close to her head, and her nose is broad and flat with nostrils like slits. She sports two small tusks.
She generally wears clothes no different than a human peasant or man-at-arms, such as a simple shirt and pants, or a sleeveless leather jerkin and bracers. She often travels without a cloak or coat.
History: Though an orc, Kirthi has never set foot in Berevar. Her parents were merchants, and her small family traveled all throughout the known lands in the first years of her life. When she was very young, her family was staying in a large Salvaran city near the border of Alerar when civil unrest set the city ablaze. Mobs formed, and fire and violence filled the streets. During the riots Kirthi was separated from her parents, and she never saw them again.
In shock, starving and little more than a baby, the girl somehow made it out of the city and into the countryside, where she would've died, if she hadn't been found by a young farmer named Abel and his new bride Rhis. Though they could have left the filthy, wild-eyed creature to her fate, they instead took her in, and raised her as their own daughter.
She lived with them for the rest of her childhood, but disaster struck again at the beginning of her teen years. A petty border dispute between the local lords of Alerar and Salvar suddenly escalated into a short, bloody war. The forces controlled by the Aleraran noble burned the countryside and annexed the city as well as the surrounding territories. Six months later the larger governments ended the war, Salvar ceded the captured territory to its new owners, and there was peace again. Unfortunately for Kirthi, her new family had died in the crossfire, along with many others. Her farm was granted to elven farmers, and so she left for the great Aleraran metropolises and thrived, in the way a clever novelty might, as long as they don't reach too high.
She did a great number of small things in the intervening years, but when some ugly business culminated in the death of her closest friends, she decided once again to break away from her old life, and move on to see what else the world held in store for her.
Skills:
Orcish Heritage: Kirthi is blessed with the great strength and toughness of her people, as well as resistance to harsh climates, both hot and cold.
Fighter: Kirthi has mediocre skills with a sword, as well as a proficiency with wrestling and brawling.
Trader's Tongue: Kirthi was born to the sound of coin changing hands, and to this day she can speak the language of commerce.
Charmsmith: One of Kirthi's more unique talents is the fashioning of small magical charms and trinkets. These charms can hold petty enchantments for a short while before disintegrating. For example:
- Feather Token: An armlet of braided leather and adorned with a single feather. The feather token leaves the bearer feeling as light as a feather. The bearer ignores feelings of fatigue equivalent to a week's travel or a single grueling encounter, though they still need to sleep.
Equipment:
- A simple but sturdy iron broadsword as well as a pair of iron knives
- Studded leather armor consisting of a vest, bracers, and pants, as well as a cheap steel cap.
- Several sets of plain traveling clothes, a set of peasant's “sunday best”, and a pair of plain but very fine leather boots that she's quite proud of. She also has a pack, and a wide belt with pouches for various odds and ends.
- An ugly mule named Dinner, who's smarter than he looks. For a mule.
