(Quick note- I was scanning through my old Althanas posts and I came upon this Newbie Guide I wrote. It was originally an idea presented by Zephyriah, and now I'm just putting it here since a lot of the info still holds valid. Damon made me do it :). I'd also like to extend a huge thanks for Calael, who sent me the urls for all the forums. Thanks a bunch!)
Hello, newcomers of Althanas. This place holds a lot in store for those of you who are new to it. It is a great place to hang out and make friends, create storylines, develop characters, and get away from the hustle-and-bustle of real life. Althanas is a fantasy world where anything is possible, and adventure happens every day.
That said, Althanas can be an intimidating place for ‘newbies.’ You may often feel as if you are not included in things that are happening, such as tournaments taking place, big quests that are being set up, or the in-depth conversations taking place in one of our OOC forums. That is why I have taken the opportunity to write up this article for you, as a place of reference for any of you who are having trouble getting started.

This is where all the important happenings are posted about Althanas. The news may also be found on the cover page of Althanas. Stories here may detail player rankings, story features, teasers, updates, and much more. This is often the first stop of Althanas’ patrons.
Althanas Polls (http://www.althanas.com/world/forumdisplay.php?f=79)
Here, polls are posted to get people’s opinions of the various aspects of the Althanian world. Often times you will find that you can back up your vote with a brief description of why you chose this. If you’re interested in having a say in the future of Althanas, you may want to occasionally check out this forum.
Character / Power Group Registration (http://www.althanas.com/world/forumdisplay.php?f=7)
This is where all newcomers must go before they can roleplay on Althanas. This should be your first stop, and you should read over all the rules to make sure you know exactly what you are doing. Every character in Althanas has their own individual section here known as their profile. You must have a profile approved, then you may start adventuring. Not only can a player make their own character here, they may also create their own Power Group, also known as a clan or guild. Further information on Power Groups and character registration may be found in this general section.
Character Updates (http://www.althanas.com/world/forumdisplay.php?f=8)
Here is where approved characters go when they level up. Once here, they may add changes to that their character has gone through since their last level up. There are numerous levels on Althanas, but one should realize it is not the levels which make your character. It is the storylines between each level that give way to advancement.
Peaceful Promenade and Scara Brae (http://www.althanas.com/world/forumdisplay.php?f=70)
This is where the newer players usually go to introduce themselves. They can set up an introductory roleplay (the Peaceful Promenade) or battle (Scara Brae) to get themselves familiarized with the Althanas style of judging and roleplaying. Most of the players trace their starts back to the Peaceful Promenade, and it is still bustling with activity for any who wish to start up a quest.
Althanas Regions (http://www.althanas.com/world/forumdisplay.php?f=11)
These are the heart and soul of Althanas. From snowy mountains to dry deserts, from death-plagued cities to lush forests, the regions of Althanas house many different terrains. This is the portal to infinite adventure, and you will find all of the best quests here. These places can be read about in further detail in each of their individual sections.
The Bazaar

For all those Althanians with GP jingling in their pockets, this is where they go to spend it. You can buy almost anything your heart desires here, from a steel broadsword to a specialty revolver. You can even gain minimal experience rewards from posting here. It all requires that you have the necessary money to spend, however.

From the Magus Cup to the Gisela Open to the Lornius Corporation Challenge, all the tournaments of Althanas are posted about here. Players may place bets and register for upcoming tournaments, as well as keep up to date by reading the various battles.

Quite honestly I'm not sure what this is. But I've been told it is coming and that people have to wait for it :)

This is the hub for all things involving PG’s. Wars and political discussions, as well as recruitment all take place here. There are two PG bases available at a time, and only through war may another take control. Separate forums may be purchased, but that’s a different story entirely. For more information on PG’s, check the designated forum.

Here is where all quest recruitment takes place. If you’re looking to join a quest, this should be the first place to check. Or, if you’re looking to make your own quest, this is where you should post all the necessary information. Make sure you give all those who wish to participate the necessary information!

Here is where Althanas members may discuss Althanas itself. Whether it be discussing new formulas for quest experience or battle experience, or various information on the regions, you will find it all here. Please keep all discussions civil and free of petty insults. Keep our forums clean!

All off-topic discussion goes here. You may also find the introduction forum, where most new players go to make themselves known. It often helps to make a quick visit here so that you may acquaint yourself with some of our friendlier members. Please try and keep all off-topic discussions clean and free unnecessary spam. Also, personal messages to other people should be kept to PM’s.
Creative Endeavors (http://www.althanas.com/world/forumdisplay.php?f=80)
This is where the various forms of media created by Althanians goes. If you wish to have a picture of your character made, you may post a request here, but don’t expect it to be free. You may post poems, stories, artwork, and any other type of expression you wish here. Please try and keep it clean, however.

All completed quests go in either the Judge’s Choice or Crystal Ball category. The Judge’s Choice category is reserved for those who have scored above the score of an 80 and are worthy of praise. The Crystal Ball is for all others, and contains the bulk of the adventures on Althanas. If you have lost a particularly enjoyable quest, it has more than likely been moved to the Crystal Ball or Judge’s Choice section.
I hope this section has helped you, and if you have any further questions you may PM them to one of the many friendly members of Althanas. Never be afraid to ask, and don’t be shy. A lot of good information can be found simply by searching or browsing the forums, so if there were any questions not answered here, and I imagine there will be, just scan around.
