Brownie points to the first person to figure out what the hell is up with the title of this thread as for what it is its just a welcome thread for.. me. Just wanted to say Hi. Found the site today, browsed, liked, made a character- cried for awhile and kicked myself for making it so I made a better one and here I am. Just kinda putting myself out there to try to get some vibes off people who play here and to see if anyone would be interested in a traveling partnership. And although I know this isn't the best place for for recruiting someone for a 'quest' this'll be more in terms of an extended engagement. Long story short, someone I can get some writing chemistry with. But.. oh yes as I was saying...

Hi!

Welcome to Althanas, Sil! On another note, that backwards greeting makes a great almost-elven name. On yet another other note, there's an introduction forum for this type of thread, but it's really not a problem - a mod should move this thread pretty soon, if it hasn't been already. Just thought I'd point it out!

I've read through your profile and it's pretty impressive (only comment is that it could do with a bit more punctuation). All in all, that's a pretty cool concept and I'll be sure to follow her tales. If you ever find yourself needing someone to write with, I'd be very interested, although I don't think you should have any problem finding a wagon-load of thread partners.

Hope you enjoy it around here! Althanas is home to a pretty colorful bunch, so you should fit right in.

Welcome and hello.

I must admit your profile is amazingly well done, and I like it very much. Has a lot of potential in there. I do like the vivid background you put into it as well. Well done.

I am currently in the process of starting off a series of threads and am in dire need of someone who can quest with this account on a consistent basis. I plan on updating the character relatively soon as currently the old profile was from WAY long ago. If you are interested I would love to run ideas by you.

Always intrested to hear the idea. Although I did semi-simplify the background I could have gone out into crazy detail about how ordinary her life was other then her strange ability but I wanted to leave her free, not so much purposeless as in denile over the fact that she is indeed 'strange' I'm sure a quest will come up where she has to learn more about what she can do but for now just wanna get the ball rolling. So toss me some IM's to chat it out or toss me an IM with an msn or google talk contact info if you prefer something quicker.

Interesting. My iPod is named Silmeria, presumably from the same inspiration.

Healer-type characters are fairly rare, and ones with an interesting twist other than simply being pure-hearted innocents doubly so. The name alone caught my attention and drew me back from inactivity to comment. Hm... very interesting indeed.

Moved to the proper subforum. Damn these noobs! Damn them! *shakes fist* Why, I remember back in the day, you used to get banned for posting the wrong subforum. True story. Honestly. Now, get off my porch.

Uhm... I mean, welcome. :)

Silmeria sneaks her way onto Letho's porch and leaves a flaming bag of poop, rings the door bell and makes a run for it.

Thanks. I'm a healy whore - as bad as it sounds my favorite characters in almost any game I've played have always been the healers. Its just how I like to play you know? As for dragging you out of inactivity that's a good thing right? :P.

As for the name - its from a game apparently one of which I've played but.. honestly the main reason I'm using the name is I just like how it rolls off the toung. Sil-Mary-Ah. As for the not being pure hearted... I was thinking the same thing while making her. "Making her a priestess seems like she'll have to behave a certain way... what if I make her just 'pretend' to be one for her own benefit." And Viola - the con-priestress is born. ^^

VP 2 is such a great game...

We need a 3 out already...."VP 3: Hrist"

Seriously, Visla's right. Althanas is in such desperate need of healers I'm thinking about throwing a couple on this character.

Welcome.

Hey now - don't get any ideas. More healers being made means less work for Silmeria! Being a rarity just has the bonus of making her more in demand if everyone starts making them she'll be out of a job and will have to pretend to be... like... a cook or something!

On a serious note I've heard they are making a Vp3:Hrist.. which is good cause she's actually my favorite. Its to bad I missed the start of The Cell. Might-have been fun.

Wait a minute....I hope it's better than CotP too.

Fortunately not a game I've played - and not one I want to by the sound of it.

It's a rariety, turn-based RPG strat that in many ways is more ball-busting than a Fire Emblem with no real fairness in its system. The damage mages can deal for example is just insane and the enemy gets so many.

So yes belated greetings, as a semi-self-destructive hunter that deals with nasties of all shapes and sizes there might be something of a business opportunity available to Silmeria. Sides he weilds a big sword, usually an early meet for girls with a similar name and her sisters.

Welcome, Silmeria, to the Pandora's Box some people call Althanas!

Whatever you get up to around these parts, don't let Letho bite, run away from Dirks and more importantly, I just stoled ur purse!

I can't believe that Letho didn't make a comment on Silmeria's auburn hair...

Oh, and Silmeria's welcome makes me realize how uncreative Santhalas was as a name ;)

I have honor. There will be plenty of time to rob Silmeria blind later. For now, let her have a theft free welcome. Otherwise I'll hunt you down and throw a Banana creme pie at you so hard, you'll start sprouting Bananas out of your ears!

Nightstalker

That, my dear, is a threatening promise, AKA a Thromise.

It will be doubly enforced, if you don't give me that post you owe me. I'm sure pie reminds you of what post.

Been interesting so far. And whats wrong with Auburn hair? I mean I suppose I could have put 'brown' but then start the poo jokes... I'm more surprised the flaming bag of poop I left on the porch was unnoticed.

And actually the first person Silmeria meats as a party member is Rufus a dude with a bow. Lenneth however goes Arngrim. And I suppose Silmeria does get Dylan and Arngrim as well.. on that note I haven't finished the game so no spoilers.

Nightstalker
04-11-10, 08:32 PM
Nothing's wrong with Auburn hair, Letho just has a near psychotic fanatical interest in people with red hair of any shade.

Silmeria

I'll make sure to wear a chastity belt - or carry a pair of metal snips with me >_>.

Considering I was about to spoil something probably, it's really good you said no spoilers.

And I moreso think he meant the valkyries seems to have a thing for recruiting giant blade weilders, regardless of whether or not they're actually good.

I'll take my double archer-wizard-silmeiria team any day over Dylan.

Visla Eraclaire
04-11-10, 10:55 PM
Yes, I'm glad she mentioned she didn't finish it. I would have made unfortunate remarks about the second half of the game, wherein it is shown to be one of the greatest games of all time.

And Sei's right. Archers, Wizards, and even light swordsmen routinely outclass the Sword Bigger Than Body folks... Arngrim was one of my least favorite to use in the original, along with anyone else who shared his class, like Grey or Kashell.

But I could irrelevantly discuss that game at length... I have bought the original three times (twice for ~$100 as a ridiculously rare used PS1 game, once as the psp remake) and the second twice (once to give to someone else simply so she could play it). Amanda still owes me a knit blanket with Lenneth and Lezard's sprites on it.

By virtue of your name alone, I will participate in at least one thread if you ever need a snide female ex-warlock.

Without it, her welcome is tainted. Oh, welcome btw.I figured we're past that by now. I figured it's pretty much a given that if there's anything akin to a redhead around, I'd do her. But just to set the record straight for all the new people, I'd totally hit that.:D

I'll make sure to wear a chastity belt - or carry a pair of metal snips with me >_>.Good thing you're a level zero, so the belt and the snips can be steel at best. I can totally overcome that. ;)

what is this VP game everyone is talking about? Valkyrie Profile. I personally didn't play the original or the second one (named Silmeria, like our newest redhead) although I have it, still waiting in the queue of games to be played. Played Lenneth on PSP, though. Wasn't bad.

what is this VP game everyone is talking about?

A series of RPGs based on a badly mangled but intensly interesting reinterpretation of Norse mythology where the gameplay is a mix of sidescrolling dungeons and turn based battles where your individual character attacks are mapped to the four action buttons. The original, Valkyrie Profile, was ported to the PSP as Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth, the second Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria is for the PS2. There's a tactical RPG spinoff called Valkyrie Profile Covenant of the Plume that takes place prior to Lenneth but after Silmeria, presumably (though without spoiling anything the games involve time travel and the norse concept of a cyclical universe, so putting them into a chronology is difficult).

The original has its charm, and is absolutely necessary to enjoy Silmeria, but it suffered from some poor translation and a battle and leveling system that was fairly inscrutable. Also, many people find it merely mediocre because approximately 90% of the meaningful story only occurs if you get on the track for the A Ending, which is all but impossible without a guide.

Silmeria is much more traditional, has modern 3D graphics, and only has a second mini-ending you can achieve by beating the final boss in a challenging way. It feels significantly more finalized.

Any creative person could benefit from playing them for the story alone, especially the tragic sidestories of every character you acquire in Lenneth. By the nature of the game, they all have to die before they join the party and you watch how and why.

Also, I always find it intensely creepy the amount of come-ons that occur in any female character's intro thread. Look back at mine if you want to realize the folly of that, and note that I never lie in it, but simply let the foolish project the gender they want onto the account. Spoiler: I'm a guy, though Cyrus was aware of that most of the time.

That about sums of Valkyrie Profile so far. First one was good - second one was better although the leveling system still bothers me in that one too. You'll have to excuse me but I 'hate' shared EXP pools. Nothing worse then getting 20,000 exp and then having it divided by 4 people. I dunno things that irk me in games don't irk me as much as they used too these days all I can think. "Why is this game so easy - they need to make this stuff harder." Part of the reason I'm liking Valkyrie Profile 2 so far.

A few more levels and I'm sure I can get something better then steel Letho :P.

I don't mind the EXP pooling so much as the fact that the game features several temporary characters (I will obviously not say who, though I doubt you would be surprised if I did). It does compensate you for their loss by giving some unique rewards based on their level when they leave, but that just forces me to grind a character I know I will lose for the items.

The only other flaw in Silmeria is the lack of characterization for your Einherjar. They're have the same attacks and PWS based on their class (though some learn the attacks in different orders), and generally make the mistake that Lenneth did with its mages. All mages are identical except for small stat differences and that they start with different spells, though you generally replace their starting spells anyway. At least Lenneth gave you a reason to play with one versus another based on their voice acting and personality (I kept Mystina even though Gandar has better stats). Other than the plot characters, I can't remember any of my party members from Silmeria.

You don't use Valkyrie. Saying more would ruin things. Look around the internet or gamefaqs specifically, there's information on it. It changes the ending ever so slightly

Yea I am rolling through it again - tried to play it awhile back but got frustrated at one point - can't remember which. Pretty sure I just need to do some grinding to get it through the next part which is cool just needed a break from it probably. Of course I'm notorious for starting an rpg game- then restarting it once I get stuck now that I've learned the basic in and outs. Kinda important for games like... whats a good example... Disgaea. Started over and built my characters 'probably'. Best to learn through experience with me. Who knows one day I may level up and read the books that come with the game!

Anyway: Inactive = lots of work this week should start posting again soon speaking of which off to post a discussion!
