View Full Version : Sir Grimwald the Sane

Sir Grimwald The Sane
06-04-10, 07:37 PM
Name: Sir Grimwald the Sane
Age: 30
Race: Ogre
Hair Color: Brown
Eye Color: Blue
Height: 2.3m
Weight: 425lb
Occupation: Mercenary

Personality:
Though he appears brutish, and his caveman brow suggests a simple wit, he is not as unintelligent as one might first think.

His speech, though slow and rumbling is surprisingly clear and has an air of nobility. He is however not much of a conversationalist, often preferring to keep his thoughts to himself.

His movements are slow and careful, like those of a great ape, and hint at an inner gentleness. In battle this changes greatly however, and he switches from a gentle giant to a raging bull, bellowing fierce warcrys in Gruntish tongue, wading in with hand and tooth, and wielding his sturdy crossbow as a club or ram as much as a ranged weapon.

Appearance:
Pasty white of complexion, in appearance Grimwald is typical of his people, the Ogres of the Grundian Kingdom.

Everything about him is broad and bulky, from his crooked teeth and furrowed brow to his meatslab hands and feet. His belly is fat and his limbs broad and densely muscular.

His is almost wide as he is tall, and his skull is somewhat large in proportion to his body by human standards.

His chin has a brutish under-bite and 2 flat teeth jut tusk-like from his bottom jaw.

He shaves his head and chin daily with a piece of flint he carries around for that purpose. He is clumsy in this task and the result is good deal of scarring, though many of his scars were clearly won in battle.

History: The Grundians are a feudal people, and as a result have good knowledge of seige warfare, castle building, and construction of siege engines and the weapons of war.

Though they have knowledge of mechanical construction, this does not progress much past relatively simple devices such as the crossbows, catapults and battering rams they specialise in.

Few of their people have seen magick outside their lands as they have no skill with it, and visitors to this land of warring brutes are rare. As a result they fear and mistrust magick in all it's forms.

Grimwald Himself was an Ogre Knight in service to Gundon Fury, the Great Ogre King.

He was disgraced and banished when he ordered troops under his command to surrender rather than have them die in pointless slaughter, fighting a battle they could not possibly win.

The king named him Grimwald the coward and ordered him to leave his lands, never to return. But those who were there that day remember him as Grimwald the Sane, a knight who merely knew that discretion was the better part of valour, and whose only failing was not to share in the bloodlust of his cruel king.

Skills:

Sturdy;
Grimwalds build has many implications, he is difficult to knock down, and it's difficult to stop him moving once he's started, much like a heavy boulder, or an elephant. He is also very good at kicking doors in, or anything else that's foolish enough to still be there when the Grimwald Express is passing though. It is worth noting however that stealth is not really his thing. Even deaf people can feel him coming from quite a distance!

2 sizes too big;
Grimwald can't wear armour, or use daggers and other small or fiddly items. They just don't make that many things Ogre sized. Or shaped. There's also the fact that Grundian Ogre sweat tends to rust armour faster than salt water.

Thick Skin;
Grimwalds skin gives him the defence one would normally obtain from leather armour.

Makeshift Weapon;
A weapon is only as good as he who wields it.
And when the man wielding it 425lb's of muscle bad temper just about anything is going to hurt when they hit you with it. Unfortunately, Grimwald is about as effective weather he's using the finest dwarven axe or a sturdy rock, as his style is somewhat lacking in... finesse, or indeed any actual skill.

Seige Knowledge;
Grimwald knows how to lay siege. Grimwald can lay siege all by himself. Think of him as a one man demolition company.

Iron Stomach;
Ogres tend to vary a little from place to place, but the Ogres of Grundia are known for their constitution. He is able to eat raw or rotting meat, and many other things inedible to a human, without ill effect, and indeed obtain nourishment from them. This naturally gives him a high resilience to poisons.

Equipment:

Grimwalds Crossbow;
Constructed of oak and iron.
A large crossbow, roughly the same height and width of Grimwald himself when stood on end.

Designed to be used in seiges against small keeps and wound up and loaded by 2 men. Grimwald pulls the string back by hand.

He has reinforced it with plates of metal, further increasing it's weight and sturdiness, but his makeshift modifications seem to have harmed the weapons accuracy.

When loaded he uses it much like a spear or pike in close quarters, the large bolts being akin to javelins in their construction. When unloaded he wields it in the manner of a cudgel, for this is the way of his people. Sometimes he fires it too.

Grimwalds Shaving flint;
Responsible for at least some of his scars.

Barrel o' Grog;
No Grimwaldian Ogre would be far fom a barrel of grog given the choice. Their preference is for something that doubles up as a de-ruster and weapon polish. Can also be used as paint stripper, or firelighter. It's the beer with a thousand uses. You could even try drinking it.

Familiars:

Grimwalds Cow;
Grimwald carries a cow over his shoulder for emergency rations. Sometimes he talks to it.

Notes: Grimwald is 1.5 times as strong as a normal human, and twice as strong when he's really pissed off.

The exception to this is the cow on his shoulder, but he is used to carrying it, and rarely puts it down.

Although you never stated it directly, there are some details in the descriptions of your skills that would imply he's incredibly strong. Like carrying a cow on his shoulder (although I'm still not sure if this was meant as a joke or not). At any rate, I will simply advise you not to powergame his strength. If you play him as 1.5 times strong as a normal human, maybe even twice as strong when the adrenaline kicks in, it's all right. Anything stronger than that at this point and the judges will penalize you.

Also, I need to know the exact material of the crossbow. I'm guessing it's a combination of oak and iron/steel, but I need it clearly stated for future reference.

Thanks for the reply!

I have updated the crossbow stating the appropriate materials, as you required.

In reference to the cow, yes he actually does that, but I understand the importance of balance and won't use it as an excuse to do silly things, or be an arse :D. As you say, their must be realistic limits to his strength.

I can assure you I am here to roleplay, not to walk round telling everyone "I WIN!" :)

I hope my amendments are acceptable and look forward to you benevolent reply!

Indeed they are. You seem reasonable enough and I trust you not to powergame.

You are approved. Thank you for your cooperation and welcome to Althanas.
