Concordia Forest seemed to stretch out like an ocean for miles in every direction. Trees of various types surrounded the township that Sabatykos Maelstrom grew up in. It was a secret settlement nestled deep within Concordia Forest. Immediately to the East of the village was Underwood. Nearby to the township was the infamous Bradbury River. Its waves rippled across rocks and sediment. Bradbury was a popular fishing spot for the locals living within Concordia Forest. The town that Sabatykos grew up in was a collection of small buildings. Several hundred individuals lived within that township, studying their old ways.

At the center of the town was a collection of statues representing the deities worshiped by Sabatykos' people. These deities were not The Thayne of Althanas, and they were not members of any other pantheon native to Althanas. The entities were off-world deities worshiped by The Saenorakym Prime. Most important of all the deities was the technologically superior Karshook. Karshook was the patron deity of The Saenorarkym Prime. Alf of the other deities in their pantheon obeyed the rule of Karshook for his word was law.

Most youths in the fold of The Saenorakym Prime had tribal symbols connected to the deity they worshiped. Each individual member of the community was allowed to pick a Patron and a Matron when they came of age after completing The Festival Light. Usually, members of the community followed the main deity, Karshook, who was a Patron of invention, science, and ingenuity. Saenorakym Prime society was a society of tinkerers and inventors. Bending the laws of science to their will, The Saenorakym Prime carried their powerful technology with them when they crash-landed on Althanas many eons ago.

Largely avoiding the ravages of the civil war, the small township remained unscathed. Accepting a swarm of refugees from the recent events in Concordia, the population of the township grew considerably size. Jorianth was the name of their township. Also, it was the name of the star-chariot that crash-landed on Althanas so many generations ago.

Remnants of the star-chariot were visible throughout the township. These structures formed the complex "buildings" visible throughout the circumference of the town. Twisted spires jutted out of the ground that spiraled and twisted for several yards into the sky. Many of these structures had strange colours like neon-pinks, purples, and sometimes blues. Portals were visible upon the surfaces of the structures that allowed occupants to peer at the outside world. There were people in the streets too, moving back and forth between each of the large structures.

During the current time period, with the civil war still being waged across Corone, Jorianth was prospering. Where other towns were being crippled by a troubled economy, Jorianth thrived. The inventions of the township were cutting edge and shipped all around Althanas in a secret empire. It was a complex web of deception that governed the trade of technology. Greedy black-market merchants of The Bazaar in Radasanth long ago cornered the market on technology. The old deals and trade regulations were still intact. After all, money made the world go round.

It was in this era of Althanas' history, that a young member of the society was born and raised. His name was Sabatykos Maelstrom.

Day 1--

It was morning in Underwood. The Peaceful Promenade was already busy with activity and had been non-stop. Corone was always like that even with the war machine marching all around. Corone was privy to the cities that never slept. Jadet, Underwood, and of course, Radasanth. Currently, Sabatykos found himself sleeping in a warm bed in Underwood. He'd taken the trip with his family a week earlier. They were on call working for a wealthy Duke's family.

His Father had long since, earlier in the morning hours, ventured out to meet with the client. The Duke's name was Tidule Hekina of Clan Hekina. His family was the client. Using the web of shadows, the Duke had placed a large order of specialized clock-work devices from the Maelstrom household.
Sabatykos' Father was a Saenorakym Prime man named Malus Maelstrom. Sabatykos found himself thinking of his Father at that moment as he stirred awake. He yawned and stretched. With aching muscles, Sabatykos walked over to the bathroom with a large yawn. The tub was already filled with warm water and a fresh bar of soap was ready for the Maelstroms to utilize.

Sabatykos dunked himself in the tub and allowed his body to sink like a weight beneath the surface of the water. Bubbles flowed upwards from Sabatykos' nose. He wore a grin on his face. The water felt good against his bare flesh. He still hadn't completed The Festival Of Light, so the tribal markings of Karshook did not adorn his person. Sabatykos had picked Karshook as his Patron and his Matroness Phognekegots. Sabatykos currently thought about the deities of The Saenorakym Prime. Even whilst Sabatykos relaxed in the tub's warm water, thoughts of the lectures and lessons of his people filled his head. Schematics and machine designs were recited in his mind over and over again like a night-time lullaby.

A short while later, roughly six-thirty in the morning, Sabatykos was done with his bath. Fully clean, Sabatykos dressed in an elegant attire. He wore baggy black pants that were embroidered with many designs. His vest was fancy, also dyed black. The vest had a fancy cord going through the metal loops on either side of the collar. A design of the Maelstrom clan symbol was visible upon the youth's shirt. Tying his boots up, Sabatykos felt the tightness of the clothing around his feet. It felt good. Sabatykos was clean, it was a beautiful Underwood morning, and it was time to get some work done. Sabatykos' siblings were traveling with Malus Maelstrom,
they were still learning from his Father. Sabatykos had some free time before he had to work on his own duties.

Sabatykos had a copy of the keys to the room in The Peaceful Promenade, and he left the building quietly. Ignoring most of the other customers of the establishment, Sabatykos did not feel hungry at the moment. He simply wanted work. The best place to get work was by City Hall. Sabatykos walked in the general direction of that building. His boots crunched the ground beneath him, and he carefully avoided the carriages that came close to his person. Maneuvering quickly through the streets of Underwood, the young Inventor finally reached his destination. A large staircase was visible in front of the ancient city hall building.

A job board was placed in front of the building with several gawkers inspecting the contents of the board. Two guards were placed on either side of the board, they were employees of Underwood. Visible upon their persons was the armour of Underwood. Sabatykos admired the aesthetics of the armour for a few moments, and then approached the job board. The youth had rarely participated in mercenary work, but he understood there was a profit to be made. Sabatykos needed to find the resources to supply his own workshop. When Sabatykos stood directly in front of the job board, one of the guards noticed the well-dressed youth. Sabatykos adjusted his hat as he looked at the job board.

Sabatykos heard one of the guards speaking to him.

"Hey kid. That's the job board. Mercenary work. You look like you're too young for that type of work." Sabatykos sighed as he heard that. "We don't want a good kid like you to get hurt." The guard said.

Sabatykos turned to look at the taller guard.

"I have this." Sabatykos said calmly. His hand moved to his iron broadsword. He did not move to unsheathe it. "I know how to defend myself, I've fought in The Citadel before." Sabatykos felt that he did not need to explain himself to a couple of iron-helmets like these ruffians.

Sabatykos saw that they were hesitating and he sighed.

"I'm only trying to find an honest gold piece's work, that's all." Sabatykos said in defeat.

"What's the material of that butter knife you're rolling with?" The main guard asked.

"Masterwork Iron." Sabatykos responded with a seriousness in his voice. "I know how to use it."

Sabatykos heard the guard whistle, impressed. "Very well. Take a look at the jobs and figure out if there is anything suitable for a child of your skill level."

Sabatykos shook his head, but he complied. Examining the job board, he immediately saw that there were several classifications of jobs. They were organized by star-levels. Sabatykos assumed that he could handle jobs that were one-star level. There were several available jobs in that rank, but one of those particular entries caught his eyes. Labeled The Shady Misfits, Sabatykos immediately decided on that job. It seemed a group of ruffians was attacking carriages heading through Concordia Forest. The guards were looking for the successful capture of the leader of these ruffians. Sabatykos pulled the job-sheet off the job board and looked at the guard.

"I can do this." He said calmly and showed the guard the flier. "What do you say?" He asked.

"It's gonna be dangerous. There's a group of them Bandits attacking carriages out in Concordia. The reports say that they are in a camp located in the East area outside of Underwood. In the wild-lands heading towards Jadet. You will need help kid, and we will need a down-payment for the job, nothing is free kid. You have to pay us fifty gold up-front for the job itself." Sabatykos heard the guard say. Sabatykos sighed, then he simply handed the guard the money. "Your partner will have to pay for the job as well. Look through the Adventurers around town for a potential partner. I'll let the barkeep at The Peaceful Promenade know that the job is taken. Kid, there will be an extra reward if you can capture the leader of the Bandits alive."

Sabatykos nodded.

"You will need at least on partner for the job." The guard said.

"Very well." Sabatykos responded. "I shall ask around town before I venture out."

The guard nodded towards Sabatykos, and Sabatykos began to search for a potential partner.
