is it possible to have a profile that is a group of characters? Like one main character and a bunch of NPCS?

More than possible.

For the first three or four months, Duffy was the main PC on this account but he had a menagerie of NPCs which featured (somewhat messily) in most of his threads.

As time went on, they became full PC profiles in their own right, but there's still a group of npcs that occupy the background.

As long as you make the clear distinction between NPC and PC, and don't abuse the guidelines and agree with other writers you're working with, everything should be fine. Any major npcs you wish to flesh out can be posted as they arise, simply post a bio or ask a moderator to open your character profile to add NPC profiles, or something similar.
