As some of you may or may not know Fable three comes out in October. What do y'all think?

here's a brief synopsis I got from Bestbuy.com

Fable III is the latest chapter in the Fable series. In the 50 years since Fable II, the kingdom of Albion has flourished into an industrial revolution — but the kingdom's fate is in peril. Called upon to rally and fight alongside your people, you must choose between the greater good or personal gain, and who you will become. This Limited Collector's Edition features unique collectibles that are wrapped in a distinctive box that resembles the book in Fable III. As part of this Limited Collector's Edition, embark on a new quest where players uncover the mystery behind the haunted forests of Silverpines and find the legendary sword, Wolfsbane. Unlock a new region where you can settle down with a family and discover new treasures. In addition to the new quest and exclusive location, players are also granted access to a new canine companion — the boxer — known for its loyalty and bravery, as well as one male and female outfit from the mystifying, distant land of Aurora. Also included in the Collector's Edition are Fable III playing cards, created by Lionhead, depicting every character in the game, and a Guild Seal Coin that features a Good side and an Evil side to assist you in making the tough decisions that will shape the fate of the world. How will you decide to let your Fable play out — will you rebel and fight against the power you detest, rise to power as a tyrannical ruler — or become the greatest leader that ever lived?

Its one of the few straw breakers between myself and an Xbox, and I'd do it all.

I think they have their work cut out for them if they mean to improve the second one. I was rather disappointed with Fable II myself. The story was weak, the NPCs were shallow, the battles were seldom challenging, money was so easy to earn it was goddamn ridiculous and there was no armor to wear. So I'm not holding my breath for 3. From what I saw, they aren't doing much to fix these mistakes, so I'll probably play at some point in time, but I'm not sitting at the edge of my seat.

I hear they upped character to npc interaction with touch?

In other news your weapons and figure change based off of what you do.
I.E you become more cat like the more you practice rouge skills.

Other than that I don't forsee too much changing, maybe armor will come back.

Letho

Well, I hope they make something useful out of NPCs. In 2 *POSSIBLE SPOILER* you spent the better part of the game collecting three people that are supposed to help you only to have them fight a single battle with you before the game ends. And the saddest part was that those three were probably the only NPCs in the game world that had some, however minor, depth. Well, I guess there was the Kreia lookalike that leads you by the hand for the most parto it, but still. /SPOILER

And somehow I doubt they'll bring the armor back. If the game's taking place during an industrial revolution, it would make even less sense to include it.

funnier yet whats his face owned all four of you with little to no problem, then killed your dog and any fammilies you had.

Yeah... um... I bought fable 2... and then resold it at a loss and pre-paid for world of warcraft the frozen throne.

I didnt like the lack of armor. Armor is fun, even if impractical. I spent half the fucking game running around in black colonial garb slashing through people. Yes, there are guns, but if thats true, WHY AM I USING A FUCKING SWORD!?

I was irritated. Azza played it for a bit and found a bug before the character even grows up. Overall, it was fun, but still a HUGE disappointment.

Needless to say, Fable 3 needs to impress. And I don't mean more online bullshit.

I didn't play the first Fable, but Fable two had some redeeming points to it. Fable three will probably fix a lot of problems.

First law of Gaming: Someone will find something to complain about somewhere and usually at sometime within the first few seconds of turning on the game.

I'd be happy if I could be a slum lord gangster.

Rawr the load was too long!
Rawr the opening theatrics sucked!
Rawr I didn't like the title screen!
I judge on how I liked it. Fable two could easily suck you into a seven hour gaming streek without a doubt. Fable three will probably do the same. I also heard the climax of the story is mid game.

I can't play either 2 or 3 until they move them to PC, IF they move them to PC. I played the first on PC, and the concept of having an actual family, not just a wife who randomly gives you things is pretty awesome in and of itself.

I know three is being released on pc when it first comes out. But the story mostly dictates that you do what you do because some ass hole killed your family or something like that. So you kinda get stuck with the spouse and kids who give you random things based on how happy they are.

I made a bandit corpse SOOOOOAAR away into the distance into the wide blue yonder :D...

Meh, filial devotion is something one needs in an evil empire. Fact of the matter is, I need someone who will make sure the Viser suffers should I pass away. Also, just because I'm actively clearing towns of their people, doesn't mean I shouldn't have a warm and loving relationship with the only people required not to plot my death while I am away on murderous business.

Fable I and II were both disappointing. I bought both at full price and neither was worth it. Even the press is embarrassing and misleading.

Pass!

I think Fable 1 was amazing...if you ignored the expansion. Fable 2 was quite a lot of fun...until you do the storyline and realize the ending is... nonexistant and anticlimatic. Like they ran out of time or something. Fable 3...all I can say is I hope you can play as the chicken.

The best part of fable one for me, was the expansion, and the red dragon at the end. Afterwards, there was the awesome part where jack was speaking to you like an evil conscience, and the legendary ancient guild member, whatever his name was, (No not Guildmaster) acting like a good conscience.

The only single solitary thing I did not like about fable one, was the fact that Jack's mask could not be removed once worn, and it was not possible to legitimately get both Avo's Tear and the Sword of Aeons.

Some gameplay videos from the Game Con. It looks like that's a no on the armor. The character still looks like a moron, pretty much the same as in 2.

Avo's Tear was put in the game for the sole reason of not making the Sword of Aeons so tempting that playing an entire good game gets turned bad because you decided to off your sister. That is why they have almost EXACTLY the same stats.

:D but I like my doggie...

-coughs-

In a more serious note, I liked the fable series. They're fun to poke at and just do ludicrous things.

A few things I didn't like about it was the fact that it was a bit tooooo easy. The way I see it though, it's an easy game for people first being introduced to the genera or even gaming in general.

Oh and...

Guildmaster: "Hero, your health is low."

Are you talking plate armor? Or just downing on the look? From the looks of it, its a lot like the 17-18th century style. Given that when guns appeared armor was useless, it might just be an attempt in art imitating life. That and some people wouldn't mind customizing their character with things beyond plate mail. Love it or Hate it, some people might want to leave less to the imagination. (http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2010/063/0/5/Haven_Knight_by_Togman_Studio.jpg)

I'll be honest, I probably enjoyed Fable II for all the wrong reasons. I kinda liked it because it's such a relaxed game and it means after a hard day at college you can pretend the bandits are your tutors and decapitate them one... by... one...

So while I hope Fable III has a proper final battle, I'd buy it anyway purely for a bit of bandit death or something similar.

Fable 2 had many flaws, but all of them were outweighed by the pros, the little polished gems that Molyneuax is famed for.

I actually rather liked the ending, a moral and compounding choice as hard to make as that (I didn't spoil it by reading up online about what happened) is much more endearing than any super saiyan end game battle.

Bring it on I say!

(Preferably without immortality and clichéd Victorian accents).

Swords will still be very much in use judging by the gameplay video, and there's also magic to consider. And all you'll have as protection is some spiffy clothes and ridiculous looking hats. I fear that Fable is more and more moving away from being an RPG and towards being a 3rd person action game that allows some customization.

It has some RPG elements and lacks others. I don't know. Maybe I'm too stuck on Bioware and their string of RPGs, but I miss my armor and I miss accessories that boost my character's strength and I miss the stats and NPCs that are more than just cardboard cutouts.

I want Dragon Age 2. :(

See now, I had no problem with Fable, or Bioshock or a multitude of other RPGesque games.

But Bioware games just sound so BORING. They are grind fests in and of themselves, and no matter how hard I try, I just can't shake the feeling of how boring the game is.

They basically dumbed down System Shock 2, leaving like one decent RPG element (the ADAM/abilities crapola) and turned it into a FPS. Don't get me wrong; the atmosphere of the Rapture was pretty awesome. It's just that everything else was mediocre at best.

I do find it odd you call Dragon Age a "grind fest" given the fact that enemies don't respawn there (and they do in Fable) and there are technically no random encounters. So in reality, it's really heavy on the story (again, unlike Fable), especially if you decide to dig deeper into its world via the codex entries you can collect as you explore the world. But I guess it's pointless to keep comparing the two, since DA is more of an old school RPG and Fable is more of a new age, action oriented type of game.

And also, you suck donkey balls.

Someone smack this fool, I loved Bioshock. Then again, I love FPS! There is just more need for skill and reflex action, and what they did with Bioshock was create an atmosphere of such complete despair and horror that more than once I ran around the dark screaming, and shooting anything that looked like it had once been alive. The graphics were all up to par, the weapons were fantastic, and number of ways I could play the game were impressive. Summoning Big Sister, Hypnotizing my enemies, and hacking machines to turn the turrets on their master. RPG elements aren't the top of the game industry.

I'm with Bushy, grinding for eternity, and only needing to level up a few times to handle any challenge just isn't that interesting. The FPS on the other hand leave with bullets, time, and fear to improve you as you hide, snipe, rush, and let loose the fire. More skill against opponents who are almost as dangerous as you are, sometimes even more so.

That, and there is nothing like nailing your opponent to a wall through their teeth with a ROCKET HARPOON.

You people are what's wrong with the gaming world today. I blame Call of Duty, or rather Call of Duties and Quakes and Unreals and Battlefields and Halos that gave birth to this generation of twitchy-fingered, ADDd, overcompensating, tea-bagging bastards that don't feel right without a crosshair in the middle of their screen. Give me 2D isometric view, a mouse cursor and a little window in the bottom showing my rolls and I'll kick your ass. BLACK ISLE FOREVER!!!

Bah, you simply lack an interest in the refined arts of aiming and shooting, orbital missiles just feet from where you are standing, and engaging in equal combat between yourself and your opponent. A dried up and wrinkled generation too caught up in noble thoughts of style when you simply don't want to take an active role in pummeling your opponent bloody, instead watching cinematics play the game for you.

Twitchy fingered? It only seems that way because your hands have fat and weary. ADD? Try sitting in a perch waiting for the single instant where you can make someone's head explode from across the field, then run like hell before she respawns. Over compensating? Says the man with the six foot gun sword? Tea bagging? It is the right of the victor to desecrate the corpse. And the cross hairs are a heck of lot harder than auto-lock-on.

Give me thirty bullets, a scope, and time. I will then give you thirty dead Nazis piled on top of each other and gift wrapped in a corner. FPS 4EVA!:D

Blazk Isle was a genius. Black Isle wrote something worth reading. Arguing with a religious semi-zealot and listening to him whine about how he MIGHT be the king's son is stupid. Listening to the zealot of a barbarian tribe, that refuses to go home because he lost his sword, is stupid.

I would rather do quests and find out things about my characters in their completion, or by pure accident. When you found out Trader Vic came from Vault City, that was an awesome moment.

Talking to the other meat head in the party until he finally decides to trust you with the fact he lost his weapon? Not so hot. You GRIND reputation with your party members, then you GRIND experience so that you MIGHT be able to play the game, but heaven forbid if those god damn wizards have fireball, because by the time you reach them they'll have knocked you down several times. And if there is TWO, well good luck because Bioware doesn't balance their magic worth SHIT. Take two mages, tell them to play aggressive and knock down the enemies until it stops being funny. Have the other party members be range, and laugh as they literally can't do SHIT.

Yeah, funny when you do it, not so funny when they do it to YOU.

And like I said its not just the one game. I don't care if the dialogue is enough to fill nine novels. I don't care if I have to scour the world to find out dick about it. I'd rather learn the relevant information and move on, than hunt down bits of lore that are unnecessary other than to give you about 50 EXP and a pat on the ass. Bioware gave me NOTHING for the 30-40 hours I spent on Dragon age, other than a reason to restart another character because I felt the game had gotten so boring that I'd rather try it from another class viewpoint, and HOPE that it'll turn fun.

Letho
08-20-10, 07:54 PM
See? That's why you suck donkey balls. I won't really argue on the characters and dialogue as that's a matter of personal preference. I found Alastair funny and Sten cool as beans. Then again, I play a moody dude with a sword on Althanas too. And if you don't sell every thing you find, you usually wind up with a bunch of gifts that get your reputation up in a flash, so there's no actual grinding. I had almost maximum reputation with most at about half the game.

Also, there are tactics. They put a pause in the game for a reason, just like in pretty much every game of theirs. Two mages with some clever spell choices, a rogue and a tank and nothing can touch you. I'm not even joking. It makes dragons looks almost funny. You fuck mages up with Force Field (easiest to obtain and you can have two of them if you have two mages) and you freeze most opponents your melee fighters engage with some Cones of Cold. And that's just the simplest tactic. I won't even start with the glyphs and AOE spells and combos. It allows for a lot of variety if you give it a chance.

But let's not take this any further, at least not in this thread. It is supposed to be about Fable 3. :P

I think the only games I've never played or really liked that were mentioned in this discussion were Dragon Age and Fable #-#. The rest are cool in my book.

Back to the "X is better then Y!" fappery.

*Forgot. Never played System Shock 2. Though, I know how you feel, Letho. I hated BS when they made Fallout 3 and completely shit all over the rest of the franchise. Weirdly I played it and I ended up liking it. Still, Bioshock is awesome, and you have to love a game that has a fanbase that created the name Cult of Rapture as their primary group. Badass.
