So what is it that everyone here write to? Or maybe you don't write to any music whatsoever. Either way, share.

For me it usually depends on my mood. Most times I listen to electronica, or rock (alternative, and others). When I'm in a foul mood is when I break out the Metal, because for me it has a sort of calming effect on me.

I typically listen to whatever music accompanies the cartoon my kid is watching from the living room.

It pretty much depends on the mood. When its a battle or something epic a lot of trash or heavy electronica. If I'm trying to get into a sullen mood some classical or whatever.

To be honest, when I first entered Althanas, I thought I would be part of the minority in my appreciation for metal, and rock in general. Boy, was I wrong.
Unfortunately, originality isn't one of my strongest traits. I like rock. I like metal. It's better than that shit playing on the radio talking about gettin' on dat ass. And, I can concentrate when I'm listening to it; I find I write my best with a song in the background. Even television will do, however so I think it's just the static effect; but as long as I'm listening to something, it may as well be something I like.
However, I've also developed a fine appreciation for acoustic music as well, and I can listen to either the heavier stuff or the finer tuned in any mood.
Right now, what has caught my ear is this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFPgJhYkLyA&feature=related). If you're a fan of rock music, you'll most likely like this.

I have a few different songs. Usually when I'm in an average mood I listen to Black Veil Brides, which is Metal, basically. Although recently, I found a band called Alestorm, who are extremley good. When I'm going for the conspiratoral, I go with Zak Hemsy's (I think that's his name ) Mind Heist. It get's me into the mysterious mood.

Music is a varied menagerie of goodness on my computer, I listen to everything from pop, to rock (mostly indie/alternative and occasional more heavy riff based) right down to chilled out electronic and female singer/songwriters.

A quick selection to cover the basics:

Turin Brakes - Underdog (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Evn5DTVCbLk&ob=av2e)

Charlotte Church - Back To Scratch (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkjiP2zk50o)

Linkin Park - New Divide (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysSxxIqKNN0)

School of Seven Bells - Windstorm (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWtXttiKBzs)

Goldfrapp - Ooh La La (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uco-2V4ytYQ)

If you like any of those, I've plenty more!

I can't read, write, or sleep to the sound of any music. Homework and work-work are also a total loss if music or the TV are on. My ADD brain simply can't handle the distraction and chooses to input rather than output by default. Kinda sucks, really.

That sucks. I find it hard to sleep if there isn't any noise going on, and I don't function well at work if I don't have music in one ear.

Rock and metal usually. I <3 Apocalyptica for writing. Occasionally some alternative.

If I'm trying to write something epic I often listen to audiomachine on youtube, they write the super epic music you hear in movie trailers and stuff.

I listen mainly to the Blazblue and Guilty Gear Soundtracks. Plenty of lyric-less rock and metal to keep me entertained without singing along to annoy whoever is nearby.

Brief Selection;

Gluttony Fang - Hazama's Theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7377COP4mAA&p=C90BC8ED759119D0&index=9&playnext=9)
Rebellion - Ragna the Bloodedge's Theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7377COP4mAA&p=C90BC8ED759119D0&index=9&playnext=9)
Motor Head - Iron Tager's Theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bby132VFgVY)

That was all Blazblue, for Guilty Gear;

No Mercy - Guilty Gear X2 (Sol/Ky vs. Sol[EX]/Ky[EX]) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDk1MQU0n1o&p=0F6C2D2D6C5E487E&playnext=1&index=2)
Burly Heart - Potemkin's Theme - Guilty Gear X2 OST (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L05wAbRJ5BQ&p=0F6C2D2D6C5E487E&feature=BF&index=10)
SHeep will Sleep(If you become Fatigued) - Sol/Ky/Ino - Guilty Gear Isuka OST (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lyjhTcmbh3Q)

Bwahaha... My taste in music is rather esoteric. Metal, metal, metal. All metal. There is a genre of metal for all of my moods. Death, black, brutal, hardcore, metalcore, doom, progressive, you name it. And to attest, I have about ten thousand songs on my laptop, all metal. So it's a little hard to name a few bands.

For a tiny example though, a few favorites I can lay out off the top of my head are:

Veil of Maya
As Blood Runs Black
After the Burial
Abigail Williams
Conducting From the Grave
The Crimson Armada
A Plea for Purging
Apocalyptica
Through the Eyes of the Dead
Fear Factory

And so on, so forth. I could go on almost forever.

Probably either explosions in the sky or rap.

Rap with good beats. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DbmaG72vPIM)

I'm eclectic. I'll listen to rock, classical, metal, J-Pop... anything but Country and R&B.

Writing is a tough thing, and picking music for it requires a bit of careful deliberation on the intensity of a song and the scene your writing, the length for fitting moments, and how distracting it may be (considering vocals and base). Generally, I stick to instrumental pieces, but I must admit I've had a weakness for Crystal Castles as of late.

Celestica (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsxNUl1IHnE)

Knights (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_O2y2n4HfMY)

Not in Love (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32udqal_lyQ) (ft. Robert Smith of the Cure)

Getting behind this character requires visits into the roots of inspiration. So I can go with songs from Dexter (Blood Theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2xxizpHuoo)), Hitman (Club Heaven (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0eYdpu6jC0&feature=related)), or even Firefly's Jubal Early (Early Takes Serenity (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKs3m7R9zos)).

I'll tune my radio to the local jazz or classical stations. If those fail me, I'll boot up the 360, sign onto Last.fm, and load up a Koji Kondo or David Wise station.
