We're just about a week away from Thanksgiving and it's a time where people come together with loved ones, friends and family alike and share a meal and day together. Some people do the traditional Turkey, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes and gravy, and that's great!
I was wondering what your favorite dish is come Thanksgiving time around your home. Tell me what your favorite is! Tell me what the most unique is! Tell me what makes your traditional dishes different from the other's version! Finally, tell me what your favorite part of Thanksgiving is.
Let's keep this on topic and happy. I want to know the good, not the bad.
Ready, GO!
I'm a simple man. I like the mashed potatoes.
My family typically does an ordinary Thanksgiving dinner - turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, cranberry dressing, stuffing, the normal stuff. Doing something different this year, don't know what yet.

Pizza rolls and croussaints.
Oh, and Jessica's Chocolate pie. It's the best.

I love all of it. Turkey is by farm my favorite! Especially with turkey gravy! YUM! We do mostly a traditional set up. The dressing recipe has been in the family for years. I usually do the turkey and potatoes (though Sei is doing the potatoes this year :) ) I also make the pies. My sister makes the dressing and my mom takes care of the rest. It's always fun and we always eat way too much. Seriously an amazing holiday.

I love turkey, I think we're smoking our turkey this year....
It'll be absolutely amazing!
Our resident cook for thanksgiving went on a diet about a month ago. I made a pact with her so she'd cook again this year. There is absolutely no substitute for a good southern thanksgiving. Nothing.

If anyone is thinking of deep frying a turkey, Alton Brown does a great special on how to go about properly doing it so that your house doesn't light on fire!
Also, I don't really do holidays. It's a normal meal for me, but I love chocolate pudding pie that my friend's grandmother makes! So good... So... So... Good...
What about kinds of gravy? White gravy? Brown gravy? Don't care as long as there IS gravy? (The last one would be me)

Saxon, you are right. Nothing beats southern cooking. NOTHING!

Greenbean Casserole! God I loves me some greenbean casserole. And there's nothing quite as satisfying as chewing through a turkey drumstick. It's nature's meat-on-a-stick. Light brown gravy for meats, potatoes, and stuffing (also yum). Hell I'll eat just about anything that's put in front of me.
And since Thanksgiving is just about the only time I get to visit my family its the only chance I have to SCRABBLE BATTLE with my mom. Odd as it sounds our Scrabble games get pretty wild.

And that's how Rev became a Judge ;)
I'm similar to the extent that I'll eat most things you put in front of me. I don't care what it is, as long as it tastes good.

Ugh, thats wrong on soooo many levels....
Oh man, I'm going to be a total pig on Thanksgiving.
Light and dark turkey meat, mashed potatoes, and stuffing all smothered with gravy. My grandmother makes greens also and we have a variety of pies and cheesecake for desert.
Top it all off. I'm more than likely going to two places that night. haha

When I was in the Army we were provided everything, Lobster, crab legs, anything. The best part was we were served by pretty high ranking people (all officers above the rank of Captain). It felt good to be served by someone who I was used to taking orders from.
As for me... I like stuffing and mashed P's... I'm easy to please

at my house, my dad is in charge of cooking Mr. Turkey. We make our dressing from scratch, none of that boxed stuff. Mashed potatoes are also made from scratch. We usually have candied yams and green beans. and my gramma makes cornbread stuffing and the gravy. This year it may just be me, mom, dad, gramma and one of my friends who will be alone for thanksgiving otherwise.

What is this dressing people speak of? Is that the cranberry stuff?

My fondist memories of Thanksgiving include yelling, death threats, and five children who will pretend for five minutes they all can stand being in the same room for more than five seconds. Thanksgiving is full of that awkward tension when someone comes in (me) and you look at your brother and he says "Dude, i dunno what you did, but shit man," And i am suddenly
*deep breath* An alcoholic, drug abusing, anger management freak, who is addicted to porn and sleeps with every chick he sees and is also apparently a...*sigh* gay womanizer.
Now don't get me wrong, i love my family with all my heart as my brother can attest. But those family gathering moments in our family are generally never really...pleasant. I mean, seriously? How can i sleep with all the chicks, but be competly 100% gay, dad? ugh.
I have my other family though, so it's all good. My roomates and their family are always a good laugh. But the food i love most of all, no matter where I go...
TATERS AND GRAVY!
So i wish you all a happy thanksgiving this year, and though I will see my family, and be labeled a thousand names that make zero sense, i will still treasure and love them and be always grateful for them.

Its this big american holiday where we ritually sacrifice oversized chickens, then turn around and eat them.
It essentially is a dark cultish celebration of gluttony!

Yet you wonder why you're the world's (scuse the pun) largest country?

You might be a "bigger" nation if your food all didn't taste like cardboard wet with vinegar.
Also .... who asked you anyways? Turkey is delicious and I regret that there's only one day a year that I "have" to eat it.
I have turkey breast once a week, they sell it in the shops here, it's a culinary miracle, try it sometime! :o

My family is always torn during the Thanksgiving season as some of them live overseas, so that can be a pain. But despite that we try to keep the festivities as traditional and alive as possible; a huge family get together (whoever can come), lots of food, and typically board-games of some sort. We tend to stick to the typical menu for Thanksgiving; Turkey, Ham, Stuffing, Green Bean Casserole, Candied Yams, Mashed Potatoes, Grilled Corn, and Apple Cider to wash it all down. But occasionally a bowl of miso soup or whatever manages to slip it's way in. -Laughs- In Japan their version of Thanksgiving or 勤労感謝の日 (Kinrō kansha no hi) is nowhere near as delicious. It's usually just a parade (at least in the town my family lives in) and children who have drawn special pictures, present them to the police forces in their area as thanks. It's sort of like a labor day I guess; where you reflect on all the hard work people have done. Anyways, yeah...I am looking to having two days off from work where I can just be lazy and nom some good food. My favorite dish being our family's recipe for stuffing!~

I don't actually like turkey all that much, it's usually drier than Chicken and imo less flavorful. Storebought is usually worse than home-made, and home-made takes a ton of work to make something that essentially tastes like chicken!
Anyways I usually have either turkey or chicken, mashed potatoes, corn, cranberries, cornbread/rolls, perhaps a couple other vegetables. Not big on stuffing.

Just... make sure the turkey isn't covered in water. You know what happens when water goes into hot oil... especially if oil spills over...

I don't mean to derail this Artie. Hopefully this question is alright, if not, I'll delete it...
But...
What's everyone thankful for? I think a lot of people don't really think about that too often, but Thanksgiving is also the best time to recognize what you're thankful for.
I'm thankful for all of my friends and anyone else who serves our countries military, because without those people we wouldn't even have the ability to celebrate Thanksgiving (not to mention a lot of other freedoms). Thankful that every day I can wake up and pursue my dreams, because a lot of people don't have that opportunity.
Hope everyone who is celebrating Turkey Day has a great one!!

I'm thankful for my friends, two to be more specific. One who showed me the best and worse life hears ever been for me, and one who kept me sane. I'm thankful for my wonderful parents, my family, the marching band at my school and all of the members in it. I'm also thankful for you guys, your interesting company.

I am thankful for my amazing husband and beautiful little boys who are basically the two coolest people I've ever met. I'm also thankful for my best friend in the whole world, my mom who has stood by me through every thing life has to offer. I'm thankful for my crew at Zaxby's who always keep me laughing and remind me that even though I'm the boss I can still be put in my place :). I'm thankful for customers who give me money and for really good chicken. Gosh...I'm way too much of an optimist!
I could easily bring my tongue to numbness by listing every last thing I am grateful for. But for the sake of participation I will limit down my list to the top three things I am most grateful for, this year. Here it goes!~
1. I am most grateful for my Beloved and the unconditional love He harbors for me. Without Him my world would be one dreary slab of gray; with no true emotion or purpose. As cliche' as it sounds, He truly is my source of subsistence.
2. I am very grateful for the support my family never hesitate to give in dark times. No matter how seemingly controversial the topic, they always stand behind me out of love. Many times has my family saved me from utter disaster.
3. I am so grateful for having a job, especially in this economy, that I actually LIKE. Being the silly geek that I am, I know just how lucky it was for me to find a tech job that I enjoy doing all day. And better yet, the people I work with are really neat and understanding individuals.
So yush. Those are just a few reasons, out of many, why I am grateful for my miniscule existence on this big blue planet of ours. O(≧∇≦)O

I am thankful for that which I take for granted knowingly, that which I don't even notice, and that which I couldn't notice even if I tried.
Most of all, I am thankful for the opportunity to be thankful.
I am thankful for those friends of mine who stuck with me and continued to support and encourage me, especially during these difficult points in my life that have just passed and/or are still going on. Don't know what I would do without their kind words, and I'm fairly sure they know how much I appreciate them.
I'm also thankful for my little girl. I rarely get to see her, but I can't explain how happy I feel when I spend time with her.

DON'T MESS UP THE FRYING! People burn houses down with frying wrong.
Artie the problem is people fill the fryers BEFORE they put int he turkey. The trick is to put the turkey, still int he wrapping in the fryer, then fill it with water. Then, take the turkey out, and mark where the water it. THen, empty the fryer of water and put the oil in and place the opened turkey inside.
Most people just fill the thing to the top with oil, and THATS when you got issues.

Just wanted to officially say...
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! (>ω<*)ノ
Decided to pass up buying an infared turkey frier again this year. Just didn't feel like splurging, even though the perfect turkey is just out of reach.
But, anyway. If you want to solve the 'oil' problem, get that. Cooks very well and its somewhat cheap. I only didn't get it again this year because I have some debts to some of the people we are having dinner with, and I didn't think it'd be a good idea to show me splurging without cutting them a check first. =P

Have a good TG everyone! You bunch of lucky farts.
This will be the second year in a row where I get to sit around, starving, as I watch the rest of my family munch down... Haha. This year I've got to drop weight for a fight I have coming up on Saturday (wish me luck, because I've still got ten pounds to drop to get to the 155 weight class by noon on Saturday), last year my jaw was wired shut so I was on a protein shake diet (yum, yum). So above all else be thankful that you get to munch down on some serious grindage, because while you're eating I'll be drinking water, and if I do eat anything, I'll be running for hours on end till I work everything out of my system.
What kind of fighting do you do anyway, Scrotus? Boxing?

MMA, conventional boxing is probably the weakest aspect of my game though, so I have participated in quite a few boxing smokers (which is basically non-sanctioned stuff, gym vs. gym, small tournaments, etc.)
Saturday is my first (mma) fight up here in the mid-west since I've gotten here a month ago, so I'm a little anxious to see what these farmbred, superhuman strength'd fellas bring to the table, haha.
Edit: I'll throw you a link to the video of my last fight once the RitC website puts it up... These guys have been lagging for months on that crap
