View Full Version : The Akashiman Bounty Board

Tayu
11-24-10, 01:38 AM
My character is a tayu and Spirit Warder with a unique ability; to absorb and assimilate the very essence of demons and evil spirits, for later purification or darker purposes. However, her position amongst the Akashiman gentry would make it improper for her to go out and hunt these creatures herself, so she has taken it upon her associates to place a bounty on several infamous oni and yōkai within the small kingdom. How this would benefit her is that takers of the bounty would have to bring a piece of the creature to the petitioner, who would then bring it to my character for her to seal away it's essence within her. Takers of the bounties must speak to the petitioner first IC'ly, but how you go about this is up to you; either in this thread, or in the actual bounty thread, is fine.

As with Witchblade's Dheathain Bounty Board, the recommended levels are for your consideration only, and to reflect the strength of the creature(s) involved. Any characters of any levels can take any bounty, and multiple characters can take any bounty as well, as long as agreed upon with original taker.

I will put up new bounties as these are taken and finished, so make sure to check back often!

=========================================

Name: The Jurogumo (Single Creature)
Description: North of the Capital, near the isolated Ninyama village, a series of disappearances has given cause for alarm. Bodies have been found drained of blood, and there have been reports of a creature deep within the mountain forest near the Sacred Crystal Cavern of multiple legs and feminine wiles. People believe it to be a "jurogomo", a spiderlike demoness that takes the appearance of a beautiful young woman to lure men to their deaths, and few dare go into the forest now in search of supplies. The beast, whatever it may truly be, must be slain, and it's essence captured and purified.
Rewards: 400 GP's upon completion.
Petitioner: One of the tayu's contacts in the Ninyama Village, a woman named Noriko. Her husband was taken from her by the jurogomo.
Recommended Level(s): 0-3.
*Taken by Lillith Kazumi.

Name: The Setotaishō (Single Creature)
Description: To the south of the Capital lies the remains of the infamous Demon Invasion, with several fortresses and battlefields lying in testament to the bloodshed. And from these remains came the Setotaishō; a warrior's spirit, still tied to Althanas, in limbo in it's desire to still be the best, even in death. Gathering old armor and weaponry from the fallen it comes across, it makes it's steady advance towards the Capital, challenging any it comes across and slaying them whether or not they accept it's challenge. Seeking a warrior to come and put it's soul to rest permanently, before any more innocents are slain.
Rewards: 300 GP's, and any weapons or armor you find on the spirit.
Petitioner: The warrior Akira. He encountered the Setotaishō on his way to the Capital, seeking employment, and was injured by it but managed to escape.
Recommended Level(s): 0-3.
*Taken by ~Humphrey Nonyton~.

Name: The Basan (Single Creature)
Description: A small village to the west of the capital is being terrorized by a chicken. However, it is not just any ordinary chicken; this particular one has grown to the size of a small dragon, and has gained the viciousness and flame-breathing properties of that example. As to the why, no one is exactly sure; some say a malicious spirit has been trapped inside the body of the chicken, others say it is a birth defect, but all know one thing; that the creature must be slain.
Rewards: 500 GP's, and the gratitude of the small farming village. [Small amount of Fame.]
Petitioner: The village elder, speaking on behalf of his people.
Recommended Level(s): 4-6.

Name: The Tengu (Multiple Creatures)
Description: To the north of the Capital, an uneasy truce has been made between the resident nekojin and a tribe of carnivorous Tengu; bird-men with a taste for human flesh and a penchant for swordsmanship. This truce has kept the two races from going to war against one another, and keeping the humans from being in-between this conflict; however, that is until recently. A rogue group of Tengu have separated from the main tribe and gone on a hunting spree, slaughtering humans and nekojin alike with little regards for the truce. The need has come for a warrior, or warriors, to hunt down these rogues and preserve the peace while it still lasts.
Rewards: 700 GP's. Also, the Tengu are said to be master craftsmen in terms of weapons, especially their blades; these rogues should also carry weapons of such quality.
Petitioner: A nekojin named Koji, in interest in keeping the peace. He also works for the tayu as a messenger between the royal family and his race.
Recommended Levels: 4-6.

Name: The Kyūbi-no-Kitsune (Single Creature)
Description: For years, this legendary Kitsune has guarded the Sacred Crystal Cavern under the watchful eye of Gingitsu, the Guardian of Spirits. It would judge those who sought to enter, and whether they were worthy or not of entering the Sacred cave would be decided via the kitsune's discretion.
However, recently, the powerful creature has become more and more violent, until rendering it impossible for anyone to approach the Sacred Cave. Even innocents have been slain in it's rage, and the demon has now become too strong for observation to be done to try and fix this problem. The time has come for it's rage to end; the demon must be slain, and it's essence to return to the flow of spirits. It is the will of Gingitsu that this be done.
Beware; even when sane, the creature was powerful. It's abilities consisted of supernatural speed and strength, "foxfire", and the ability to use Spirit Warder powers; but one of it's most terrible powers is the ability to shapeshift and fool it's prey.
Rewards: Small crystals from the Sacred Cave.
Petitioner: The tayu herself, as she has a personal interest in this bounty.
Recommended Level(s): 7-9.
*Taken by Tayu, Lord Anglekos and Slayer of the Rot.

Name: The Mizuchi (Single Creature)
Description: To the east of the Capital lies Akashima's harbor for their famous Battle Arks; one of their greatest treasures. A great serpent has appeared however on the shoreline, wreaking apart small fishing towns and the treasured Battle Arks in it's wake, and it's path of rampage is heading swiftly towards the Capital itself, where many civilians and innocent people could be hurt in it's path. Despite all of Akashima's military might, it is preferred that the beast be subdued and the cause for it's rage found out before it reaches the point that the military must step in, and the royal family is willing to pay handsomely for this deed must be done.
Rewards: 800 GP's, plus the royal family's gratitude, as well as parts of the creature itself. [A decent amount of Fame.]
Petitioner: The Akashiman royal family itself, but their messenger is the tayu's assistant Chiharu. (See profile.)
Recommended Level(s): 10-12.
*Taken by 016573.

Name: Yamata-no-Orochi (Single Creature - Multiple Minions)
Description: Long ago, a great eight-headed serpent arose from the bowels of the earth, seeking to claim the land of Akashima as it's own in it's terrible might. With an army of oni and yokai, the demi-god spread it's darkness throughout the land. However, the advance was quelled and the army of darkness stopped, when a brave warrior took up his sword and slew the mighty beast, sending it's corpse back within the depths of the earth, and sealing it's power away with the power of the Spirit Warders.
However, this seal could not last forever, and the demi-god's dark power grew despite it's physical form being slain. Acquiring a new body, the monster now seeks to finally break free of the remaining seals upon it and conquer Akashima once more. The land needs heroes once again, to go to the the cave in which Orochi is sealed and slay the beast before it's power is totally complete. Who will step up and challenge a god?
Rewards: 1000 GP's, and the gratitude of the entire kingdom of Akashima. It is also said that a horde of treasures lay within Orochi's domain, but no one has gone inside to confirm this. [A great amount of Fame.]
Petitioner: The petitioner is the whole of the land in general, but representing Akashima is one of the oldest Spirit Warders around; a Master named Shuichi.
Recommended Levels: 13+

A friendly suggestion: don't color code your text so it's practically invisible in certain site skins. On default, I either have to really strain my eyes to read it, select the entire text or change the skin, and all of those are rather tiresome. Just a suggestion, take it as you will.

The wind swept away all precipitation, and dragged humidity down from the cliffs above Tokyun in roiling waves of fatigue. Lillith's journey had started here and now it came full circle. Her rebirth, and the subsequent nature of her transformation had called her back to her homeland in amidst the cultural turmoil and evolution and she found herself wanting.

She had changed, but Akashima had not.

Akashima had changed, and she had been left behind.

The note in her hand fluttered with the breeze and she took a moment to reiterate the details which were scribbled in simple kanji in simpler charcoal ink. Why she had accepted this professorial of talent, she did not know, she knew however that she simply must. The spidery limbs of the daemon described to her by her new-found employer and the superstitious rural mumbo-jumbo Ruby or Duffy might have cast aside as nothing and hyperbole had gotten to her, and with every step from the village of her birth, she felt fear rise in her stomach.

With a pack strapped across her shoulders, and her blades sharpened keener than her agility, wit and sarcasm, she strode through the dense tree line into the unknown promise of tomorrow.

Claiming 'The Jurugumo'.

Kyaa!~ Thankies.
I will be damned if I let something I am interested in die away.
So does your admiration mean I can have my very own Godhand plushie?

This looks so cool! I may just have to see whether I can fit one of these in somewhere. If any are left by the time I figure out what my schedule will actually allow, anyway. :p But I do applaud the initiative and hope it goes far.

Yeah, awesome work Tayu, this stuff sounds great. Can't wait to see what the outcome of some of these quests. The Tengu quest is my favorite for sure

Do you want to take it, Scrotus? You're free to do so.
I'm also looking if someone else wants to do the Setotaishō with me. I'm thinking about it.

I wouldn't mind jumping in on the Setotaisho one either, that one was the first to catch my eye. I've got to finish a few things I already have going though, honestly, which is why I didn't make an attempt to claim anything (don't want to tie these up, so others can enjoy while I get caught up). I'll try to get caught up and then I'll let you guys know, if they're still open and all. Thanks LA for the response

No problem. I honestly wouldn't worry about tying things up; Stella and I are creating new bounties as we speak for people to take. We're trying to create a constant flow of bounties for people, rather than being stuck with the same ones for years. Also, if anyone has a particular idea or bounty they would like put up, simply PM Tayu.
Also note, that we're playing with the idea of creating sequel bounties, where the players' actions in the first quest will have repercussions later on. For example, for the Tengu quest, the players might be victim to the rage of the Daitengu; the elites of the Tengu society. But that's just an example.
In any case, these "sequels" will benefit players with even greater rewards than their initial bounty; such as, with the Tengu quest, a player might find a masterwork sword, only to find it has runes along it that innately enchant the blade to set things aflame as a reward in the next quest. This is in addition to the regular cash bounty rewards, for some incentives.
Thumbs up? Thumbs down? What do you think?

A lot of the mission boards have that, but i've never seen it done well. I think its a good idea though, if its going to work, it might as well be here :)

Maybe you should in Salvar, then. If each of the regions had a bounty board, there would certainly be more interest in them; just look at what happened with Akashima. Or at least, someone should.

And we'll try to make it work. If ever Stella and I leave, which is doubtful, I ask that someone, perhaps a mod, keep tabs on this, prevent it from dying. After all, we won't be gone long anyways; Althanas always brings me back.

I'm interested in doing The Setotaishō I can tackle it as either a Solo Quest, or with one partner. I'll post a separate recruit thread once I post up my first post. (Sorry for double-post) I will focus my attention on this quest rather than doing The Tengu one.

I'm going to get this board up-and-running once more. Tayu has no apparent interest in returning, but that doesn't mean this has to die.
In the spirit of it, I'd like everyone who has finished a Bounty Thread to please post so here with a link to the finished thread in question.
