How do those things work?
Generally, through magnetism.

Also, you might want to try looking into magnetic fields and what causes them.

Troubled-Crow

When a magnet enters a magnetic field, it gains magnetic force, and follows either the magnetic South, or North pole. When a magnet reaches another magnet of unlike magnetic fields (negative/positive I believe) the two connect through the magnetic fields sort of slotting to one another. However, if there are two alike magnetic fields, then the magnetic forces are equal to one another, and repel each other away.
I think that's how they work, anyways.
Unless this was just an ICP related joke, then I suggest you talk to scientist, because no matter how pissed off you are with these scientists for whatever reason, they are not lying. ;)

Great job on your meme necromancy. Get the fuck out.

This was intended to be a joke...

You've got to get it right first. For instance, if the title had been 'Fuckin' Magnets' And the first post, How do they work?, and possibly even going onto saying how you didn't want to talk to a scientist, I bet the majority of people would of got it :D.

Arai, learn yo muthafuckin science...
I'm making a joke aimed at the ICP, the most ignorant group of people I have ever heard of...

Visla Eraclaire
11-28-10, 07:49 PM
Yep, he's making a joke that everyone, including Saturday Night Live, made months ago. When you've been scooped by traditional media, your joke is stillborn.

Fuckin' memes, how do they work?

Would you like to tell us about a double rainbow you saw? Perhaps you'd like to know how babby is formed or inform a dawg that he is the man now?

Jack, you're so darn funny...

Not.

How dare jack be effected by a Meme slower than everyone else. I mean, its almost like the world is big and stuff can take time to reach people.

In breaking news, Leslie Nielsen passed away. I feel like crying.

I thought a magnet was a clever way the Kansas City school board got around desegregation for nearly thirty years.

LAW JOKE!

LAW JOKE!

Zing.

Also, the world isn't big. We're on the goddamned internet. If he was living in a tribal village, maybe I'd forgive his lateness, but he's attempting to evoke something that is by its very nature ephemeral and linked to pop culture. It has to be timely.

Let me be clear, "Fucking Magnets" can still be used as a meme, but you have to alter it somehow. You can't just invoke the meme itself and be like "hur hur, meme." If he had slipped it into another post as a reference, that'd be good. It doesn't deserve a topic anymore, though. Start looking for newer material.

Not to mention Jack stole this right out of Saxon's thread (which he also posted in little more than a week ago) and made a sour attempt to revive it.

Althanas: magic everywhere in this bitch.

Above is an example of an acceptable adaptation of the meme to a current context.

Don't worry. I, for one, thought he was honest to god being serious. The fact that it was a meme joke just makes it that much more lame to me.

Just goes to show I'm a trend setter. Don't be trying to steal my thunder now. The community will take it from you and beat you to death with it.

Also, I like how I posted this whole ICP thing after reading it on another forum because I thought it was funny. And Jack's taking all the heat because he's young, stupid and can't troll yet (Protip; context = everything).

Aw, they're so cute when they are starting out.

EDIT: But, in all fairness.. I don't watch SNL, I'm not a juggalo and I'm not a 4chan nutbag, so I don't really get these memes on time to make the most out of 'em besides what other morons pull from the collective drekk we like to call the internet for me to read.

I thought the joke would be funny, but I was wrong. Apparently everyone has a PhD in Memes.
@ Visla: Who died and made you king of the internet? Its not like you write the rules, and if you don't like it Gtfo of this thread, plain and simple.

@saxon: You are my idol, teach me the ways of trolling.

First rule of trolling: You don't want to lash out like this-

Who died and made you king of the internet? Its not like you write the rules, and if you don't like it Gtfo of this thread, plain and simple.

You'll learn someday young grasshopper, you'll learn someday...

You've got to use tact and keep your composure. Take into example how upset Visla has made you without resorting to on-the-fence outbursts.

I'll have to go along with Saxon in saying it's just cute what you're doing here though, Jack.

Problem being with that, Jack, is most often that only fuels the fire. Think of it like this; is it better to pour gasoline upon the flame, or let it burn itself out?

If people didn't come back for OOC dickery, they would have long since forgotten about Althanas and it would be even more of a ghost town than it is.

You're welcome.

The problem with memes is the problem with most referential humor; they tend to require an initial trigger that is appropriate contextually. Some memes can stand up on their own by simple fact of their popularity, but time tends to temper them until they're fairly dated. Without new stimuli or events, the relevance of a meme becomes el zilcho.

The short of it is:

1.) Use memes when appropriate. Wait until you can use them at their absolute most comical moment, or at least two to three years after they've faded into obscurity. If you're going to practice necromancy, you might as well go big.
2.) Esoteric use of memes isn't funny. It's like spouting off facts you've learned on Jeopardy or the history channel. Odds are people know them already.
3.) While Visla is not king of the internet, his staggering knowledge of things /b/ and habit of doing things "for great justice" gives him some authority on the subject.

Your candid discussion of memes sickens me to my very being. It's like watching preschoolers explaining the function of a 'kick me' sign.

Visla Eraclaire

I get the feeling Frostie was the kind of child that had the sign's purpose explained, perhaps more than once.
