View Full Version : What are you hoping to get for Christmas?

It's been a long time since we were little children, sitting by the fire, dreaming of a fat, jolly pedophile to come down our chimney and bribe us with PS2's and Xbox's to be good for a few weeks, then return to our normal, snobby little selves afterwards. And yet, the holiday season still exists, and with it comes the inevitability of gifts. Whether it be from friends, family, co-workers, or a fat, jolly old pedophile in a red suit who overworks small Chinese children for cheap labor, we all receive them in one way or another. The question is though; what do YOU want for Christmas? Toys? Games? A new car? A new life?

sleep, rest, and a permanent job.... preferable one that I like.

There are a lot of things I want, but nothing I need. So, whatever I get, I'm pretty ok with (as long as it's not a pile of "fantasy" books I've never heard of by authors I've also never heard of)

La you just gave me an excuse to post my whole Christmas list.... If I get like 1/3 of the stuff I asked for I have a good year ahead of me.
To start I'll do the more expensive stuff.
Xbox 360 Slim: My old one broke so I need a new one
Legos mindstormer NXT robotics kit: Have I mentioned I'm the captain of my schools robotics team?
Now on to the slightly smaller stuff.
AC brotherhood: Trailer looks awesome
Black Ops: I heard the only good part is Nazi zombies
Reach: I think this is the second most important.
Fable three: Possibly the one I'm the most excited about
Sweeny todd: Hell yeah, the only musical I don't detest
The rest escapes me. Mostly because these few are the "holy shit if I get this it'll be so awesome!" gifts.

Hmm what do I want? Not a lot actually. I have a few things on my list but I'd be happy with just about anything I get. A few games, some movies/TV series, and books. I love books :)

Was hoping to get home for Christmas, for the first time in six years.
Now my flight's cancelled at the last minute, and I won't make it back before the 27th ><
A Kindle.
That is all.
Maybe inspiration to finish my last assignment, because for the first time in three years, I've had a meltdown over one, but I don't think Santa does miracles...
So yeah, Kindle plox!

You should look up Little Shop of Horrors.
As for my list, well I don't know. There is nothing in particular I want, although Orphans's list is pretty close.

A Laptop and a few games. I find it sad that I have yet to own my own computer. And so I don't have to listen to my family moan on about 'how big that download is' and 'are you sure that website doesn't have any wrong 'uns'.
I also want some games from Steam, and Spore. Always loved that game.
Books mostly.
A hardbound copy of Lovecraft's Necronomicon.
A box set of L'Engle's Time Quartet.
Orwell's 1984.
The collected works of E. E. Cummings.

Read the book instead. There's 110% less Alan Rickman trying to sing. And Sweeny's more evil than Depp could ever hope to portray.
My list?
Golden Sun: Dark Dawn and Nine Hours Nine Persons Nine Doors for the Nintendo DS.
A bunch of board games including Settlers of Catan, Civilization, Lego Minotaurus, Cadwallon: City of Thieves, Cosmic Encounter, Castle Panic, etc. That's kind of poorly thought out on my behalf, because if I end up having to move out of New York, I'll have nobody to play these really awesome board games with. Unless I somehow work out how to do this over Skype or something.
On that note--what I really want is to see one of the many resumes and demo tapes I've sent out come through for me and end up with a decent job. I've got a part time position voicing and producing radio commercials here in Rochester, but something a bit more substantial in radio would be splendid.
Oh, and a copy of "Monkey: Journey to the West", which is what the recent game Enslaved was based off of. I wasn't terribly impressed with the game, but the story intrigued me. So, hey, why not have someone else buy me the book?
I think I threw a couple pairs of pajama pants on my list too, but I'm not quite sure.

Yes, but then we wouldn't have the awesomeness that is 'Pretty Women'. Rickman does a good job there, and the point of the movie was not to see Todd as evil, but a man out for vengence. He was an anti-hero like the Punisher. We didn't -want- him to be evil, we wanted him to get his sweet sweet vengence. And yet still, the movie teaches us that such things come at a terrible terrible price.

Enslaved was awesome, especially the ending. While I didn't care for the end at first, playing through the second time on Hard to be a trophy whore made the deeper meaning set in for me. I think it had all the elements of a good game, and it's a shame it's so overlooked.
As for what I want? My kids to have portable DVD players so they don't inform me that 'green means stop' every time we hit a traffic light. Star Ocean 4 would also be boss, I would say MvC3 as well, but that doesn't release until Feb 15th, two days away from my birthday.

I wanted to like that game so hard. Andy Serkis did another amazing job as the voice and mocap artist for Monkey, and the setting was wonderful to look at. The game's got some amazing set pieces, too. But as far as the gameplay went, it just didn't do anything for me. But yes, it's a terrible shame it was overlooked by the general gaming public. But I guess anything that doesn't feature online multiplayer featuring 'roided up space marines or hyper-realistic warfare doesn't do well on the market nowadays. Which is a damn shame, because it's ruining the industry, blah blah blah.
Sorry I hijacked the thread. Carry on.

What about Cannibal! The Musical (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cannibal!_The_Musical)?

That reminds me that I've also been on a huge strategy/adventure board game kick. My dad owns a first edition copy of The Rise and Decline of the Third Reich...which is about as realistic as grand strategy war games get. I told him he could just give that to me...
The Battlestar Galactica Board Game, with the Pegasus Expansion is the best fun I've had with cardboard since I was 9!

It sounds like you plan to make some sort of classical book projectile device. I approve.

I had forgotten about this! Also good.
All I want for Christmas is an Einstien-Rosenberg Bridge to Althanas. :D
Unfortunatly, all I'm likely to get is a pile of Esskohle. :(

I wish but alas, I merely desire to blow grass off my driveway rather than sweep it. It could even double as a snow blower for the fluffy stuff! Isn't the American dream exciting?
As a side, this post reminded me of a D&D campaign wherein my character and a few other chaotic neutrals decided to pool our resources in order to craft what they referred to as a "Flaming Donkey Ballista". Which, as the name implies, was a heavy siege weapon constructed for the sole purpose of launching our only pack animal toward the tower of a powerful mage. I'm glad that one of us had the foresight to first set the ass ablaze...because, what good is just a plain old donkey ballista? Seriously.

Now I know what I'm asking for next year...
