The Tier system. For those who don't know what it is, it's the list various materials weapons, armor and even clothing can be made of. Some of you guys, like me, have always hoped to someday have that one special weapon of that high quality adamantine. Others may not really care, and that's cool to.

Though with 3.0 coming closer and closer, I was wondering if you guys would like a chance of making some input into some additions to this list. At this current moment in time, I'm hoping to bring back Osmium and Black Diamond (two older materials that seemed to have disappeared) back into the list. But then I asked myself "why not add a couple more?"

This is where you guys come in.

I'd like to offer a shot for any and all members to come here and pitch their own ideas for new materials to be added to the list. The basic format is simple. Just list the name and a description (the more detailed, the better) of colour, relative strength, special qualitiesm, common uses and other things about them. From there I'll select a few of these to added to the tier list when 3.0 launches.

I'm going to throw in the condition that none of these materials can be stronger than mythril (or the equivalents when it comes to woods, hides, etc.) And please don't feel obligated to come up with a metal, take a swing at the other lists!

For those that don't where where to find a list of these materials, it can be found here. (http://www.althanas.com/world/showthread.php?t=13211)

I want to give you guys a shot at getting more involved with 3.0. I just hope this helps you all feel like you get a chance to make a contribution.

+1 on this initiative sir.

I use black diamond on a regular basis in quests, although I've never spoiled myself any... bringing that, and osmium, and hell even regular diamond, back is a great idea. It increases the scope of things we can write about while staying within the Althanas parameters. I remember someone proposing a tier lit for types of stone on althanas, so if that is kicking around it should be included... IMHO.

Also, I created a metal awhile back called Rythadine, named after the alchemist who made it. I think it was a blend of mythril and dehlar or something. There's a full description in my profile or.. somewhere. I'll edit it in when I find it.

EDIT: Here we go, copied from my post in the bazaar submission thread.

Material Name: Rythadine

Description: An alloy of mythril and dehlar, rythadine is the future of enchanted weaponry. A Rythadine item is crafted first from mythril, enchanted or otherwise imbued, and then a process known only to the creator is used to blend molten dehlar with the enchanted object. This solidifies the enchantment, making it unchangeable and giving it defence against any other magic. Rythadine retains the strength of mythril with the added defensive properties of dehlar, and can be made any colour depending on materials added in the alchemical process. Rythadine was born here, created by the alchemist Edward "Tinker" Rythadine.

Location: At present, only in Salvar, for that is where the alchemist lives. However, items crafted by Tinker are scattered throughout the Northlands, and he has trained many apprentices who later went on to great things...

Miscellaneous: Kudos to Mathias for coming up with the awesome sounding name

Name: Patagonite
Type: Metal

Description: This metal is forged from a very unique ore located in the deep, frozen cavarns of the region of Salvar. Very difficult to find and obtain, as well as requiring incredible heat to forge, it is extremely expensive to purchase. The ore is such a deep black that when light hits a smooth surface, it may appear almost blue.

This metal is often favored by the subtle combatants, due to a unique property of the metal. After forging, the metal seems to absorb light rather than reflect it, resulting in it being a common choice for assassins, thieves and rogues. It is also commonly used for arrowheads and other projectiles, such as throwing knives.

The metal is very strong and dense, which makes it very difficult to smith and to reforge and slightly on the heavy side. However, it also makes the material difficult to break. It is unheard of to have Patagonite reforged after it has taken shape.

A downfall of the metal is that it does not retain magic very well. That is not to say it is resistant to magical attacks. Rather, magic that is intentionally stored in the metal tends to "leak" out quickly.

Name: Zamorite
Type: Metal

Description: This unique metal is created by an alchemical process that morphs Damascus into a unique element that takes advantage of the magical fluidity of Damascus. It appears as a normal steel.

Once the process it completed, the weapon can be forged like any other. It has the approximate strength of steel, but with one unique advantage: it allows the channeling of magic. For those gifted in the art of wizardry, this is a wise choice.

Whether forged into a hammer, shield, blade or projective, a wielder can send their magical abilities into the metal as they use it, enhancing its ability without causing damage to the material. The magic will only persist as long as it is channeled within it, making it impossible to enchant the material. However, when a magical attack strikes the metal, it is the responsibility of the wielder to counter the incoming magic with an outgoing magic. Otherwise, it may injure the wielder. It is a risky metal to wield, but very rewarding to those courageous and powerful enough in their art.

I think it would be really neat to go through the bestiaries form different continents and lay down at least the outline of the comparative toughness and magical abilities of skin/bones taken from different creatures. As it is right now, dragon bone and hide and horn use up much of the list, and those are not only very difficult to get but very niche, even for Althanas.

I'd be willing to put some time/work in to such a task, if the result would be supported. I've always thought there'd be a lot more hunting campaigns and the like if everything worth getting in the wild wasn't next to impossible to gain as spoils.

Fallien Cacti Skin:

The Fallien Cacti are known to have musical properties to them. Armor or weapons crafted from the skin will eventually grow its own cacti pins, retain water, and be slightly more resistant to heat. The draw back is that Fallien Cacti is very weak against lightning, and extreme cold. Also, anyone donning Fallien cacti skin will become better at playing any musical instrument, or even singing. If just slightly.

When wind blows through Fallien Cacti skin, it sounds similar to a flute being played.

Dirt (Tier zero):
Found just about anywhere, good for making mud pies, growing crops, an excellent last ditch projectile, and camouflage.

I don't recall this being on there....

Now with a more serious suggestion.

Shadowstone (Tier ?)
Mysterious black ore said to be made from fossilized demon blood from a war long ago. This ore is used to fuel "negafire" which is a fire that sucks in light. This fire is used in occult summonings, and very rare. If fused with another metal commonly used in weaponry the blade can be used to sacrifice virgins and summon higher level demons more effectively. Note: Virgins not required, but are recommended for first time occultists....

Jesus christ I knew this was coming at one point or another. This is your serious suggestion? DUDE I KNOW LETS MAKE BLADED TOPS OUT OF THAT SHIT AND FIGHT. OR MAYBE SOME LITTLE FIGURINES THAT COME TO LIFE WHEN THEY'RE FORGED AND BECOME BIGGER MONSTERS AND GET POWER FROM CARDS.

Fuck Frosty come on. I know you're young and all but...you know what? Fuck it. There is no way you're being serious. Har har, you made a funny! Kind of. Eh. No....not really.

Anyway, I support the addition of more hides and bones. Here's a suggestion...

Murkwalker Hide: Flesh stripped and treated of a swamp dwelling creature known as the Murkwalker, even when separated from the body, it always seems to remain damp and warm. This quality gives any armor or shield crafted from the hide not only a natural immunity from flame, but from ice, too - it doesn't smell pretty, but a Murkwalker coat will keep you completely warm and protected, even in the deepest reaches of Salvar's bitterest corners. Though some tend to trim the hair from the hide, most keep the thick, shaggy, blue-black hide of the Murkwalker intact, as it tends to act as excellent camoflage in swamps and forests in night. The Murkwalker hide is very resistant to slashing and peircing, but affords no protection from blunt force traumas. As the Murkwalker is tall, lanky, and broad chested, the shortest specimen was recorded at eleven feet, six inches, a decent amount of hide may be salvaged from each.

Please, Slayer get over whatever notion you have that I give a flying fuck about bayblade and bakugan, those are just as bad as Naruto when it comes to shit reputation. I avoid all three with a burning passion. It was more of me attempting to put something I planned to use with an alt.

A few other suggestions.

Whale skin: If cured properly it is slightly more resistant to piercing than leather. It is also water proof, and can be used as a material for Althanian wetsuits.

Walrus tusk: About the strength of iron, used by the tribal Anima (a race I plan to Rp with later) of Winter island

Polar bear fur: Incredibly resistant to the cold, leather strength.

Celestial Steel: Any metal that's been purified by the touch of a Thayne automatically becomes celestial steel, which is slightly weaker than Adementine. Requires seven trials (threads with a 70 or higher)

Don't worry guys, I'll fix this.

Name: Umbralite
Type: Arcane Metal
Tier Strength: 1 (Comparable to Iron)
Description: Althanas is only one of many realms; a sort of crossroads, for those whom know the Ways to and fro. Planeswalkers use these Ways to travel from place to place, often using Althanas itself as a sort of home base to make their businesses known. However, not just planeswalkers make their appearances here from other realms; darker, far more dangerous beings do so as well, and with pleasure. Some call them gods, some call them aliens, but when all is said and done, they leave their mark in some way or form.
Umbralite is one of those marks; a shadowlike substance that can be found in the darkest places of the world, such as Alerar and within the snowy cold of Salvar. Some say it is the remnants of the Demon War long gone, pieces of mysterious power that demonic warriors once wielded in days gone by; other say it's a freak of nature that was brought here from another world. The truth is somewhere in between, for it was a great conqueror from the stars beyond whom brought this metal from his home realm unto Althanas, and infected the ore that the dwarves in Alerar mined to spread his Influence.
The quality of umbralite has sinced degraded over the years, and it is not nearly as legendary of a metal as it once was in the past. It is extremely difficult to forge umbralite into any form of straight, dense metal, for the fact that any armor or weapons it is forged from tend to be very flexible and bendy. While swords and the like can be made extremely sharp when forged from umbralite, it's weak density makes it rather impractical to create such. However, umbralite truly shines when used against magic-wielders of elemental capabilities, as it carries a unique attribute:
Umbralite is utterly immune to elemental magic. In fact, when in the presence of such, items made of umbralite act as miniature black holes, sucking in and absorbing the magic hungrily until there is nothing left. That is why warriors who hunt magic-users seek to get their hands on umbralite, as it makes a great weapon against their prey.
Availability: Rare

There. That should be sufficient now.
Jack, if you didn't notice, Zerith said materials weaker than mythril.
And you obviously haven't really taken a look at just how much potential for badassery Naruto has. Bakugan, I understand. Beyblade, fuck that. But the more you read into Naruto, the more you see than it's deeper than just "i gonna be ze best lol".

Eh...
Sorry, I didn't see that.

Naruto has a terrible reputation for the first season thingy.

Shippuden looks a lot darker, more watchable. There are better Animes though.

You left out the occult part, that's the whole reason I created it. To make this post on topic.

Hell hound Fur: Obviously the product of a summoning gone wrong. This fur is a tier 4 hide with a bonus to fire resistance.

Name: Chronusian Steel
Type: Metal
Tier: Special

Description:

This metal named after the only known source is remarkable in that its properties actually vary with time. There are only three subtypes of Chonusian Steel.

Lumosian Steel: This variety is stronger in the day and weaker at night. starting from the dawning of the sun it is the strength of normal steel, and gets stronger up to the point of Mythril when the sun reaches its Apex, then weakens back to steel as the sun sets.

Overnight, Lumosian Steel weakens, starting at Iron as the moons begin to rise, and is as soft and mallable as pure gold when they reach their apex, hardening back into iron as the moons set. It is for this reason Lumosian steel is forged overnight when its easier to do so.

...

Noctum Steel. This variety of Chronusian Steel is the exact opposite of Lumosian steel in every way, weakening to gold as the sun rises, and hardening to mythril as the moons rise. Like it's counterpart, Noctum Steel is forged when its weakest.

...

Original Chronusian Steel unaffected by the temporal rift that created Lumos and Noctum is so rare that it's thought to no longer exist.

Unlike the other two varieties of Chronusian Steel, the original variety starts at gold at the stroke of midnight, and advances in strength once every hour until it reaches Mythril. There it stays for a day, until it weakens back to gold, and stays that way for another day on a never ending cycle.

Name: Antecoridate
Type: Arcane Metal
Tier: Uncommon - for both lack of quantity and desire.

Description: There are few qualities to this ore beyond its strength, which lies between steel and iron and to the layman is no different. A gray metal in its purer forms it lacks muster, and the processes taken to refine other metals are difficult to apply to this metal, as a result it can never be crafted into a masterwork class item. Among its peculiarities are its light weight, relatively mild durability, and its connection with memory and death.

While located at the site of mass graves, collective burial grounds, and mausoleums it is seemingly not the product of any one spiritual factor, but the vast collective of residual cognitive and empathic traces left behind from a souls passing from existence to presumably another. In essence, it is a metal indirectly enchanted which attracts spiritual “matter.” Experts in thaumaturgy (wizards, shamans, and nuns) believe this effect to be the very same force which attracts a soul toward death itself, a spiritual gravity. This would explain the odd sensations, whispered words, and vivid memories that surround the metal.

The result of its innate properties, it is less prized among crafts men, but hailed among those who study, mediate, and combat the dead who are either in possession of or are composed solely from the soul. Excellent for partitioning, it can rend what was once thought immortal, and due to its relationship with all “living” beings, it allows for a brief, strained, and painful communion though prolonged used upon either side may leave various scars upon the mind. In effect it can render even the most stubborn of spirits into contrition, and, by extension, defeat. While rare, it is always the first answer for those who need to deal with the dead, especially when the dead have forgotten reason.

As the ore travels, and gains use, all of its ill-effects grow more pronounced over time making it an excellent weapon against any enemy, but an even more dangerous one to the user who keeps it close at hand. The stronger it becomes the more likely it is to part from the user memories and perhaps even their soul. Simply put, it is not something to become attached to, and will need to be melted down, cast into a shape with little mobility, and buried inside an appropriately sized box far from places anything more is likely to die. After a number of years it will begin to settle.

Agelathine
Type: Metallic Ore/Chemical Compound
Tier: Rare

Agelathine is a rare metal ore that appears in the geographic sub dermal layer of the island of Scara Brae, and is produced and refined as a bi-product of the copper refining mines in remote pockets of the Windlacer Mountains. As a metal, it is not much more workable than steel, and is porous so is as brittle as iron for the use of combat weapons and armour (though it is very light, so finds its way into vehicles such as carts and gliders), however, it's true properties come when it is refined into a dust and prepared into a liquid.

When ground to a dust, and diluted into a solution of saline and rock flour, agelethine becomes a powerful and controllable explosive, used by troubadours and soldiers alike to create pyrotechnic displays and to disable the might of their opponents with shock. It is is used in this fashion by those who can afford it, as when applied in heavy concentrations to cloth, it burns a considerable amount of time with waterproofing properties for generic castle torches.

It possesses no magically innate properties other than the flammable nature, and cannot be enchanted.
