Althanas 3.0 Bug Reports

Hello everyone! Welcome to Althanas 3.0.

As an added bonus, we've updated the forum to vB4, which provides us with a whole host of new features and extra SPAM control. We've also added a bunch of new, useful hacks on Althanas to make your experience here better. However, the transition to vB4 has not been perfect and there are still bugs to work out. If you see any bugs on the forums please notify me here. Thanks in advance for your help.

Known Bugs

-Experience bar does not recognize level 0 as the starting level.
-Gold is not on one line in the postbit.
-"Submit Thread for Judging" is not on one line in the Dark style.

Resolved Bugs

This isn't a bug per se, but this seems like the best place to put it. The Dark theme makes the bottom parts of various pages illegible. So far it mainly seems to be the Who's On list, where anyone who isn't an admin (and thus has their name highlighted in red) has their name in the same colour text as the background.

The same problem exists on the standard background, but with the admins and Atzar. Also, many profile links from the main page aren't working.

Amber Eyes, I can't reproduce your style error. It might be the browser you're using. In any event, glowing usernames are included with our store hack so I won't have to do a CSS override anymore like I had to do previously. Once the automated bazaar is finished, I'll switch us to that. With respect to your link observation, I believe its because those people have yet to log into Althanas 3.0 since I opened the forums. Once they do, their links should appear.

Here's another thing that I don't know counts as a bug per se, but it's about the Quick Navigation dropdown just above the Quick Reply box. It seems a bit unruly to use because you have to navigate through the menu each time in order to actually jump back to the forum you want to go to (which defeats the "Quick" part of it). Would it be possible to add a "Go" button, or just be able to click on the name itself as opposed to the arrow in order to automatically take us back to the forum the current thread is in?

Hmm, I can't duplicate your problem Elrundir. When I click it, ii brings up a list of all the forums on Althanas. When I click the name of a forum it takes me there. Check your browser. Maybe you haven't enabled javascript for Althanas.

Sorry, what I mean is that it would be nice if clicking on the arrow brought up the list, while clicking on the name (not the name in the list, but the name beside the arrow before you've opened the list) would take you to whatever forum it is. That way you wouldn't have to scroll through the entire list of forums just to get back out to the forum you were just reading, for example, but could still quickly jump to any other forum on the site if you wanted to.

(By way of comparison, on the previous site, the Quick Navigation was a drop-down with a "Go" button beside it, so that if you just want to jump back out to the forum that's already selected in the drop-down, you just hit the Go button rather than navigating through the whole drop-down list and selecting that forum.)

It might be the browser you're using.

I've gotten this problem as well in Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Opera. I wouldn't personally classify it as a bug, but it is a minor annoyance having to highlight everything in order to see who is online at any given moment. I'm not too keen on vBulletin and themes and stuff, but is there any possible way to simply tweak the font color a bit so it's readable?

I'm still not sure I understand, Elrundir. If you want to back out of the list, all you have to do is click outside (basically anywhere else) and it will automatically close the list.

Okay, let's say I'm done reading this thread and I want to go back out to Your Word and see the other threads there. I have to open the Quick Navigation drop down, then scroll all the way down to the Your Word link, and then click that. In the previous forum, I just had to click a "Go" button beside the Quick Navigation drop-down and it would automatically take me back to the Your Word forum (or whatever forum I'm currently in). That feature isn't currently available.

I've also noticed the "disappearing names" bug that was described with the Dark skin of the forum. It was the same in multiple browsers. Could be the color choices?

EDIT (New bug?):

When you try to click "Market" this is what you get:




The Points Market is currently disabled. This can occur for a number of reasons. The most likely reason is that you currently do not have any earned points. In order to access the Point Market you must have at least 1 point. Another reason you could be seeing this error is the point field entered into the Point Market Control Panel is incorrect or was not found.

If you read the Bazaar FAQ or Althanas 3.0 FAQ, Petoux, you'll see that the market has not been enabled yet.

The /roll (roll dice) option in chat has disappeared ... I like that thing lol. Same with "Describe action"



EDIT:

The "remember me?" function does not work. Every time I have logged in with my username and password and clicked "remember me?" it has not done so.

No cookies/etc deleted either, gets very annoying.

In using both the default and dark style skins I've found that the Name, Experience, and Gold Pieces lines in the user's infobox appear on the right side of the user's avatar and not above it.

Using a laptop with 1280 x 800 resolution causes long areas of the infobox and the aforementioned Name, Experience, and Gold Pieces lines to run over into the post.

Sei mentioned he saw that too, Revenant, but I can't reproduce it in either black or default.

Even my phone is displaying Althanas correctly :(

Well balls. It looks like the alignment in the infobox is shifted to the right since its not lining up with the side of the page, if that makes any sense.

Also, while in dark theme, sometimes links appear in white text and are readable, but often they are in black text and need to be highlighted to read.

Yeah... in dark links to threads or people's profiles are black and nigh illegible unless you don't have any lights on, while forum links are white... who the hell designs a skin with links the same color as the background? I'm actually using the default skin for the first time in my life.

Not really a bug, but there used to be that "Welcome back, there have been X posts since you last visited" link at the top of the page every time you signed in. I liked that because it instantly showed how much activity there was since your last visit. Is there a way to bring this back?

That's fixed, although you'll now have to re-connect with those accounts to do so.
On Firefox, when I write in the quick-reply box in the Dark skin my letters turn out black, but come out normal white in the posts. It's not really an issue, just a personal pet peeve. Can something be done about this?

There appears to have been an error in the judgment submission form. If you've submitted a thread since Althanas 3.0 rolled out, please resubmit it. If you submitted one prior to January 5th, then we have it saved. Thanks.

I just got a thread judged, earned both experience and gold for my character, yet neither of which has changed in my profile etc, it's still the same. Bug?

I don't know what you mean by that ... I'm still at 5001 exp and 195 gold, nothing has updated. What do you mean by "after the fact?" ... someone else has to look at the judged thread?

Only a certain subgroup of moderators has the ability to add EXP and GP to profiles, because it requires deeper system access than regular mods have. These mods periodically go through the recently-judged threads and add the EXP/GP that the judge has awarded to the players.

yeah. you'll have to be a little more patient for a few days for mod that has the ability to update your EXP and GP

on another note, the chat seems to have a bug of some sort that periodically times someone out and logs them right back in, back to back, for quite a few logs in/out. very annoying! both for the person it's happening to and for other people in the chat

Yeah, I get that a lot.

I use the Opera browser but it seems to also effect other browsers. Sometimes it doesn't happen for days and then it just keep bugging you. Manually logging out and in doesn't work, not even if you log out of the entire site and restart your browser... so it doesn't appear to be a problem with the browsers but with the chat itself.

Though I understand what you mean and don't want to start (another) discussion about it, I do have something to say about this.

Just some advice: see the writing itself as the main purpose and goal to write and get satisfaction out of that. The judging is just extra, it's a form of help to get know how your writing is read by others and how they think you might improve. If you see it like that - as a bonus - then waiting for it isn't all that bad. Sure, it would be nice to get it asap but I think it shouldn't be a reason to leave, because I think it would suck if you left (and especially for that reason) :). Hope that helps!

Petoux, you're sort of annoying me here.

We've had a particular moderator classed as an EXP editor since we started giving EXP out. Because we place EXP and GP amounts into vB profile fields, EXP editing requires adminCP access. Obviously I don't go handing that out freely to everyone who walks though the door, so other than administrators there is one person who can give it out.

So you wait like everyone else has waited since Althanas began.

Hmm... Something I noticed. The "New Posts" link in the top left corner of the forum index doesn't really link to all the new posts since your last login. Rather it links to the unread posts. Which kind of sucks because sometimes I read something, then shut the tab down, then want to go back to it but can't find the thread in the new posts. Could we also have "Today's Posts" somewhere near the "New Posts"? There's "Today's Posts" link on the forum index when you're not logged in, so I figure it wouldn't be a problem to add it.

For that matter, the forum now seems to think that just about every post is unread. There are five pages of unread posts in my New Posts link (even though the link at the top says I only have 7 unread posts), and the Go To First Unread Post button anywhere on the forum only sometimes takes me to the first actual unread post; in other cases it will take me right to the start of the thread, even though I've read the entire thing before.

N.B. As I sort of expected, it seems to work fine after you Mark All Forums Read, but it still seems like an odd unintended consequence. Just something to keep an eye on, I guess.

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but the search function is not working correctly. It just isn't turning up any pre-switch threads at all unless they were made in 2008 or earlier. This is just from a couple of searches so I'm not sure about what exactly it will say, but for me anyway it won't show up any posts I made before the update.

My computer's processor is not fast enough to complete the indexing in a suitable time frame.

I'm having a bug with private messages. I sent one today, and it hasn't shown up in my "Sent Items" folder. I PM'ed Max to ask him about this, but that one hasn't shown up in the Sent Items either. Does that mean those messages got to their recipients and it's just a bug in my Sent Items, or does it mean they never got sent?

EDIT: Never mind, I got a reply to one of my messages. Strange that my messages didn't show up in the Sent Items, though...

Seems your EXP hack doesn't have the correct numbers assigned to it somewhere. You can see that level 10 is 65,000 in our rules, but the hack hasn't recognized it.

Actually, I noticed that to witha level 0n being registered as a level 1.

I figured it was because the hack couldn't reister a level 0, and so it rounded up, but now that I notice that, hm.

If you're at the min requirement for a level, it doesn't register you at the next one until you surpass it.
