View Full Version : A Strange Request

I have a request of the Registration Gods.

I made my character some time ago, and in the intervening years have used her very sparingly; indeed, I have no completed a single quest with her. She was a re-registration reincarnation of a previous character lost in one of our crashes (I think the crash from Althanas.com iteration 1, often called Bluethanas), so she had some EXP left over from that, I think, so that explains the Level 1.

I will soon be using her as my primary character, as Findelfin may be retiring soon. However, there are aspects of my history that strike me as simply untenable, and was wondering if I might have dispensation to re-register. This would involve slight changes to her starting equipment (although not much), otherwise I would simply change things and move on without bothering with RoG approval.

I was wondering if you would permit this request, in which case I will post a registration to supplement this thread, so as not to clutter the forum.

Thanks for your time.

EDIT: Max told me to go ahead and submit this, so I will. If I have to lose EXP or something for this, that's fine, just let me know.

Also I spent 2 hours editing this in and then LOST it all when I went to post it and my session had expired. So that's annoying.

History

A short distance before the iconostasis, the cantor had just started the final round of psalms. In the chancel, the figure of invisible light pondered the brochures lying on the counter. For the first time, she found herself drawn to them, curious. It was also the first time she thought of herself as...herself. It was strange, suddenly pondering being, suddenly realizing she was both herself, and she, at once. In the sanctuary, the cantor began.

"Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,
Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.
He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the LORD shall have them in derision.
Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure."

For the first time, she could understand the sense of rebellion. She had been told that she had an eon to ponder the orders. They upset her...go to a strange place, take on flesh, lose the angelic heights, yet...yet it was an order. She only now could conceive of saying no; she had been willing to go immediately, but the Quorum had removed the decision from her; they would only take the decision when made at the end of a thousand years. And now, for the first time, there was something about it that seemed wrong.

It was a strange world to which she was sent. It was thin in a way, without substance or form. She could imagine now that the food would not taste like the food here must taste, the people not look as sharp. There would be a lack of definition around its edges, for long ago it had lost its core.

And so she pondered saying no. And the psalm went on.

"Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.
I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.
Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.
Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.
Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth."

But the Quorum had said leave, be one of them, and return one of us. She did not understand; there had been no ascendancy to the Quorum in two thousand years, the Word had seemed final, complete, the last ascension. Yet the words were there...and she suddenly knew why all of this seemed so new. Incarnation was not her choice; she would be flesh no matter her response. It was happening to her now, on the day the eon of contemplation had arrived. Her decision was called for, and the cantor pulled her forward.

"Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him."

"Yes." The word shocked her, sounding in the air as imperceptibly as a feather...but still perceptible. She could almost feel a body forming inside her. A parishioner walking by stopped and squinted at the strangely shaped gathering of light against the wall, as though a shadow was formed by a strange gathering of dust, then shrugged and walked in just in time to hear the cantor intone the next stages of the divine liturgy.

"A reading from the Gospel of Saint Luke..."

They were the last words she heard.

Weapons

Solidael's weapons and armor are formed by a prayer. In a sense, they are *like* abilities, but I ask the mod's discretion in treating them slightly differently than normal abilities due to the following caveat: she is prohibited from ever using real weapons or armor. Were she to so much as pick up an butter knife with the intent of using it to cause harm or put on a single leather gauntlet, her use of these skills would be lost permanently and irrecoverably.

All items she summons are the strength of iron. They will be upgraded in strength manually, not keyed to level updates, as per normal rules on leveling skills/equipment. The items glow very weakly, completely imperceptible unless in a near-pitch-black environment. If they leave Solidael's possession, they will vanish. If they vanish in this way (or are broken) in a thread, Solidael can summon them again -- but they will have to be summoned the post after the loss occurs (if their loss during her post) or on the second post after the loss occurs (if their loss occurs in an opponent's post).

These weapons are as follows, with their names in bold.

And take the helmet of Salvation...
This small helmet covers the crown of Solidael's head and nothing else; a chinstrap holds it in place.

..and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God
This short sword (~2 feet) is about the size and shape of a Gladius Hispaniensis.

Above all, taking the shield of Faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
This small buckler (~18 inches) mildly resists heat.

Skills

And my wrath shall wax hot, and I will kill you with the Sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.
Solidael can wield a sword well enough to avoid hurting herself...most of the time. Her skill with this is, however, well below average; a twelve-year old stableboy could probably defeat her if the test was purely of swordsmanship.

The LORD is my strength and my Shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped...
Solidael can use a shield with enough skill that it won't hamper her attempts to fight; however, her skills here are still barely rudimentary.

...therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my Song will I praise him.
Solidael has a lovely alto voice; her transition to flesh means, however, that she has not fully explored this skill.

Abilities

Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one Accord, of one mind.
When used (limit 2x per quest/battle), this ability exerts a minor influence over the minds of those in the immediate vicinity, soothing over mild disagreements and helping people work together. It can only handle mild conflicts -- not full-blown arguments -- and only in cases where the participants are already predisposed to working together. It absolutely cannot work on any actively hostile character or creature.

It all looks fine to me, and I can't think of any reason why you'd have to lose experience. What browser do you use? I've got the newest (I think) version of mozilla, and when I do that (time my session out or hit the wrong button) it saves my post for me. Been damn useful a few times.

Anyway, approved. I'm moving this to the character Updates Archive where it belongs.
