View Full Version : So I'll be around, perhaps

I realized the other day that it's been a little over nine years (no kidding) since I first started role-playing on Althanas. Granted, I haven't done much of anything here since about 2008/9. But I was feeling a little nostalgic and it's nice to see that the site is still here and has even been recently updated.

So I may hang around a bit and write some stuff with Ashiakin or my other character Wyn. I'm more interested in doing stuff with other people instead of starting my own threads or soloing. I may be helping Sighter with some of the unofficial projects he's working on (after all, he needs a lapdog!) I could, of course, vanish for a couple years again without warning.

Anyway, hello again, and it's nice to see things going well. I'm glad to find a good mix of people I remember from a really, really long time ago and people I've never heard of!

You think 3-4 years of absence is enough to excuse you for destroying the Salvar portion of the FQ, leaving it in limbo and not making sure that it's taken care of by someone else before you left?

Yeah, that's just about long enough for forgiveness.

I killed Denebriel. You're welcome.

I've recruited a few of her former lieutenants into The Company. You're free to follow suit. Or you can take some personal offense to this and we can Get It On(tm). Or some other thing. Either way you owe me!

You might not know us, Ashiakin, but your reputation proceeds you and it is a pleasure to amongst such legendary figures of old :).

So however long your stay is, may it be a pleasant one indeed.

@Jack: Haha, the only thing I can really tell you is that basing your character around one element gets really old after a while (and I have nine levels of experience with that). I mean, there's only so much linguistic gymnastics you can perform with cold/ice on a site like this. So don't be afraid to have another character or branch your abilities outside your original mold.

@Rayse: Yeeeeah, my bad re: all that. If it helps any, I promise I was in my shame bunker the whole time. I really wouldn't have wanted anyone to have a bad time on the internet. Thanks for tying that up, though.

I was thinking about it and joining The Company seems like a good idea for Ashiakin. I want to divorce him from all of his political connections in Salvar and moving him to a criminal organization seems a good way to do that. Plus Ashiakin bought shares in The Company a while back, though I don't know if that makes him a member. Does The Company even use that share system anymore? Because if I spent all my fake money on nonexistent prizes I'll probably be pissed.

@everyone else: Thanks, it's nice to be back!

Suck up.

@Ash: I remember injecting life into Salvar while you were gone. Didn't finish what I wanted to do, but most of what makes Salvar what it is now was from the foundation I built with your notes. Ambiguous and vague, but I made it work.

Thanks.

I mean, I'm really not possessive of the work I did on Salvar. The current writing staff can build on what's there or discard it or whatever. Although I'm glad it seems you found it somewhat helpful.

The rule of continent writing for like 90% of the people who do it is that you never finish.

Edit: And for the record, when I became Salvar writer so many years ago I razed everything the previous (and first) writer did to the ground. There's basically no trace of his work left in the current version of Salvar at all. It was a wintry island occupied by tribal beast people who used a modified form of the blunderbuss as weapons (yeah, it was kinda weird). His account name was Ethereal, though, so I gave the state church its name as a tribute.

Bloodrose robbed the treasury and Rayse played the victim act when it actually all got funneled into The Salvaran Mafia's coffers. Get on AIM sometime you bastard!

We should do a thread together sometime soon, I look forward to seeing a vet in action...
