Yari Rafanas
04-12-11, 04:17 AM
Name: Taydrius “Yari” Rafanas
Age: Mid-twenties
Race: Human
Hair Color: Dark brown
Eye Color: Blue
Height: 5'10''
Weight: 140 lbs.
Personality: Arrogant and impulsive.
Appearance: A scruffy—yet charming—man with a head of unkempt, long hair. His slender, athletic form is rarely seen without his full suit of custom leather armor—it is black in color, crafted of the finest leathers this side of Salvar, riddled with shimmering prevalida studs, and is lined with expensive vlince cloth. The rest of his clothes appear faded and tattered, but unique to him. Being a man outside the law, his form is often concealed by a dark hooded cloak.
History:
There are countless stories surrounding just who Rafanas was and what he accomplished before his death. Those tales, however true, have long since been buried under the weight of time, lost and forgotten to most of Corone.
If one were to ask a member of the Bandit Brotherhood to share their thoughts on Rafanas, one may hear of his banishment from Concordia at a young age. Ask another, and you may just hear of his legendary heists and gladiatorial days where he belonged to the Citadel and Cell both. Some may even go so far as to mention his impact on Corone's economy as his group shut down traderoutes during the Bazaar Wars, or his extortion of the up and coming warriors and wizards from Scara Brae. Whether some or all of these tales are true, he has always been known as Althanas' one true King of Thieves.
Skills:
Spearmanship and Dagger play – Yari is incredibly skilled with spears of varying weights and lengths, but when wielding his spear he is practically unrivaled in combat. The same can be said about his proficiency with daggers, knives and other short blades.
Marksmanship – Though not his preferred method to engage his enemies, the thief does have quite the aim when using small arms, crossbows, rifles, and thrown weapons. This trait is most commonly applied by the thief when aiming his various destructive magics.
Survival – A man of the forest, Rafanas has the knowledge and instinct required to survive for long periods of time on his own in the wilderness of Corone, especially Concordia. This knowledge is practical and can be applied to most regions nearby, but he is out of his element when faced with extreme heats of the desert or the cold winds of Salvar.
Climbing and Acrobatics – Rafanas is at home in the trees of Concordia, and therefore can scale and maneuver through woodland heights with ease. These skills are applied outside of the forest and used to scale buildings and traverse rooftops swiftly, albeit not perfectly.
Thievery – The bandit has long since moved past the need to pickpocket, but retains the skill learned in his earlier years to this day.
Notoriety and Influence – Though the Bandit Brotherhood is a shadow of its former self, the most loyal and proven of its members are still spread throughout Corone, while other thieves and warriors naturally gravitate towards the charming King of Thieves. Yari remains in touch with most of these thieves through secure networks, and uses his men and women to appropriate information and to assist with other various tasks. These actions do not go unnoticed, and Yari's efforts in leading the small band of criminals and his past crimes (murder, theft, extortion, amidst others) have left him with a price on his head in both Corone and Scara Brae.
Abilities and Magic:
King of Thieves – Rafanas' body is a vessel for his emotions and magic, crafted to withstand intense and extended periods of combat (Endurance x7.) Years of practice have made his attacks seem a blur and his eyes sharp (Perception x2). He has above average strength (x2) and a large reserve of unstable magical energy, but his prime attribute is his agility and speed. He can twist, flip, jump, and maneuver with an almost unnatural grace, even when wearing light armors. (Speed/Dexterity x5)
Shatter – Thief Magic – Formally magic granted to him from his time in the Facade, Rafanas no longer has the pure heart required to perform Makaido. Now, his greed and lust has transformed the magic into a destructive spell on a much smaller scale, designed to obliterate links in chains, padlocks, and various other safety mechanisms with merely a thought. If his desire is strong enough, Rafanas can shatter even prevalida security.
Plunder Palm – Thief Magic – A basic spell capable of pulling nearby gold (coins, weapons, or otherwise) directly into Yari's hands. Magic is charged in the bandit's palms and released in the form of a blinding white light when slammed against a solid surface (clapping of hands, open-palmed punches, etc.) The light typically stuns foes while their gold is torn away from their pockets. Minuscule energy cost.
Rogue Requiem – Thief Magic – A very destructive spell with a variety of ranges depending on where and how it is directed. Following an intense song that arrives on the wind, any spear held by Rafanas gains the ability to fling powerful energy in the form of waves or beams. Smaller attacks with this spell require aim and a moderate amount of energy, but the larger, more devastating attacks can leave Rafanas exhausted. This became Yari's signature attack when he used the waves of energy to topple several ranks of the Mindless-infected Orc hordes of Concordia, moments before his death.
Hidden Bond – Thief Magic – Yari’s spear can instantly be summoned out of thin air, and vanishes in the same manner. The weapon will also return to Yari’s hand when called if it is within 20 feet. Requires a thought and a hardly any energy.
Wishful Wink – Thief Magic – Seductive magic spell cast from Yari's eyes. It is designed to steal the heart and affection of its target. The victim of the spell may temporarily become extremely infatuated with Yari and may also offer up services and belongings. The lasting affects of the spell vary with each target, but characters of lower level than Rafanas will find the magic hard to resist. Requires eye contact and concentration.
Backhanded Burst – Thief Magic – An ability that allows Rafanas to move with incredible bursts of speed, making him difficult to track visually. The thief appears to blink from one area the next, repositioning himself behind foes or escaping out of harm's way. The spell has a maximum range of 50 feet, but can be performed multiple times if the distances are short. The greater the distance traveled, the more taxing the ability can be, and repeated use can exhaust the thief quickly. If wounded, especially in the legs, the speed is reduced and Yari is much easier to track.
Leaden Light – Time Magic – Projectile spell that flings multiple, marble-sized orbs of light at enemies. If hit with just one, a target’s action speed will be cut in half. The affects linger for longer on lower level targets. Requires a free arm, a moderate amount of energy, and can rarely be performed more than once in a fight.
Highwayman's Haste – Time Magic – Increases the speed of time, allowing the target of the magic to double the rate at which they think, react, and move. Rafanas can either use this magic to benefit himself or will the magic into the body of another nearby person via touch, but not both. Requires slight concentration and can only be used once per encounter/battle and not along with other speed-increasing abilities. The effects last for only a few short moments.
Soul Sink – Thief Magic – Through touch, Rafanas can drain energy from a single person’s soul and replenish his own. The transfer can either be extremely violent or calm, knocking targets of a much lower level unconscious or putting them into a peaceful sleep. The ability also allows Rafanas to have a glimpse into the target’s past. Usable against a single target once per battle/encounter, amount of energy drained dependent on level.
Renegade's Rift – Time Magic – With the use of any short blade or spear, Rafanas can tear dimensional fabric. The ability is currently used to increase the damage of a weapon, especially when used against structures, armor, and terrain. The attacks are devastating, resulting in the wounded dimensions attempting to heal on their own and fold in on where the cut was made. When used offensively, Yari is capable of performing the spell once per encounter and it leaves the bandit drained.
Alternatively, Yari can calmly open the air around him to bring forth items and weapons not currently on his person. Though not instantaneous, like Hidden Bond, this creates a convenient storage place for heavier items of importance to the thief.
Brigand's Block – Time Magic – A 'v' shaped knife of energy forms in Yari's hands, which can be thrown in curved or straight paths, and can return to Yari's hand. Any foe caught in its path will not only be cut by its sharp edge (steel strength) but will also have one of their Abilities/Spells/Attributes disabled. The ability is disabled for as long as Yari remains actively engaged in battle with the foe or is otherwise incapacitated himself. Can affect multiple targets and be created once per encounter.
Equipment:
Primary
Yari's Spear – A legendary item locked away on a distant island Sanctuary. The weapon has a serrated prevalida spearhead and deep blue liviol staff. Attached at the tail end of the polearm is a silk ribbon that once belonged to Yari's mentor. When this weapon was passed to Gild Sorrain, he had it sealed in the Sanctuary's vault. As a result, Yari is unable to summon the weapon with his Hidden Bond technique and remains separated from it.
Shark Daggers – Two mythril short blades, curved to resemble deadly sea creatures. They are enchanted with the element of water, keeping the blades in a constant, chilled state and providing slightly increased damage against those with an affinity towards the Fire Element. The pair of knives symbolize leadership of the Bandit Brotherhood.
Membership Dagger – A simple iron blade forged by the Red Hand, given to every member of the Bandit Brotherhood. The clan's symbol is engraved on the dagger's pommel.
Custom Leather Armor – Arctic-hide leather that covers the forearms, torso, waist, and from the knee down. The inside is lined with vlince cloth, a material that can withstand the cut from a steel blade, and the outside is riddled with prevalida studs.
Medallion – An old, silver medallion worn on a thin chain around Yari's neck. The name “Rafanas” is etched into its back.
Secondary Equipment and Trophies
Crest of the Quick – A relic belonging to Yari's past life as Executive Seeker of the dangerous, high-tech group known as the Facade. The crest is in the form of two cloth wristbands. At one point, the magic from these wristbands turned Rafanas into the fastest warrior on all of Althanas. As time went by and Yari fled from the Facade to lead his own family, the powers of the Crest of the Quick faded.
The Violator's Claymore – In a display of arrogance, Yari Rafanas killed a monster who called himself the “Violator,” and looted the weapon. (http://www.althanas.com/world/showthread.php?18643-The-Abandoned-Son-of-True-Concordia) It is a large, double-edged weapon made out of a dense delyn. Engraved into the bottom of the blade is a single rune, but it is unenchanted. The claymore is five feet long in total, the blade being slightly over four feet long itself and about a half a foot wide. It weighs around eighty pounds.
Relt's Magazine and Kukri – A curved weapon stolen/gifted from the late Relt Peltfelter. (http://www.althanas.com/world/showthread.php?18857-History-will-be-kind-to-me-for-I-intend-to-write-it.-%28Open%29) It crafted of steel, yak hide, and yeti hair. It is accompanied by odd, vintage pornography from some strange dimension.
A Guardsman's Polearm – A solid oak/steel halberd taken violently (http://www.althanas.com/world/showthread.php?22338-A-Ship-Crew-and-Map-%28Open%29/page2) from a Scara Brae guard.
