View Full Version : Theraputic death-man, Leriat

Leriat
08-11-06, 03:33 AM
Name: Leriat Belor Hanzo Shoz
Age: 32
Race: ½ human, ¼ elf, ¼ drow
Gender: Male
Hair Color: Rich light brown with a detectable silvery hue.
Eye Color: Cloudy blue with what looks like white streaks of lightning.
Height: 5' 9”
Weight: 160
Occupation: Shrine servant and assistant caretaker.

Personality: Friendly to all, but often keeps to himself. He finds most people hard to hate, a many hard to dislike, and next to none hard to like. Although he seems charismatic, he's very bad with people. He can do little more than just make people like him, leaving him with few enemies, and many friendly rivals. Although he's quite lay-back it takes more discipline than he often has to stay his hand and not punish those he feels are doing something wrong. He tries to talk things out to keep them from not getting worse, but has the problem of striking before an adversary has time to back down from a sword once it's drawn. This is what later brings him to learn drawing and striking with a weapon in the same motion.
Also has a great love for complexities, challenges, and web-like intrigue. This also leads to his love for stealth and sneakiness.

Appearance: A graceful step and smooth, pretty features, yet doesn't often smile unless somebody converses or meets eyes with him. Often stares off into space and thinks about things he wouldn't think to talk to others about. Tries to act cool, but his emotions are plainly written on his face since he doesn't have much experience acting any way other than in plain truth.

*History*
“It will be morning soon,” the fair elf said. She sat at length in her lover's arms on the eastern mountainside. So much so that the morning's horizon had begun to show layers of translucent and colored fog.

“Too late for that now. It's already morning,” replied her lover, and possibly the only other being of intelligence on that mountainside He lifted on hand to her cheek. The blackness of his arms contrasted her snowy skin so greatly it seemed almost to camouflage them both, as if to be swallowed down into the swirling sea created by the joint's curvature, length and space incomprehensive. He was a drow. “I shall take him to my city.”

“What makes you think she'll be a he?” the lithe woman said teasingly, yet still with sadness. The man began to respond, but she cut him off, “I know. I know. I'm thinking I should take the little one in myself.”

The black man sighed, “Impossible. Black shows much too well on your fair skin. At least with my people I may cover the lightness.”

“My fair kind would not throw out, or kill a poor child, like your own.”

“Yet still prejudice.”

“Besides. Would a male child always be so complacent to wear makeup daily?”

The man gave a slight, “Heh,” but otherwise no response. They could both feel the tension in the other. The exotic nature that had once inflamed passion now drew a chasm of frustration for the two young lovebirds. Still in love, must a child separate them?

“My love, we must leave.”

“The city of drow is unforgiving. They believe I am somehow important. Unbelievable...”

“My reconnaissance party will be departing soon after I am to give birth, this time around, because I can't travel as I am now. If we could fake my death...”

“If we fake your death you will be left nearly alone on drow lands.”

“You're just dejected and afraid,” she said to the wind, yet more harshly than she intended.

The man moved around and kneeled in front of his beloved. Even though she was brimming with tears he still had to say it. He would never forget her, never replace her. With a voice as calm and comforting as he could muster he told her, “Laebh, dear. When our child is born have a handmaid you trust to keep secrets. I will know when the time comes, and I shall see you for possibly the last time on that day. I hope beyond hope it is not the last.”

Those eyes... “Brigh,” she cried his name and clung to him, “I'm afraid.” Those eyes had been her downfall from the start. They were scary, and strong, yet foretold guardianship and duty.

Laebh cried her heart out into her lover's arms, and into his eyes. She cried until Brigh finally had to leave. He couldn't stand that burning in his eyes.

================================================== ========

Laebh named her baby girl Sarah, a name neither elfin, nor drow. If she stayed with the elves she would be called Saera. As things happened, though, she would be called Seirih, On the night Seirih was born her father, Brigh, came as promised and took her into his city as his daughter. Supposedly the daughter of a fling he had with a younger girl from another city. In final parting she left Brigh with a gift to give their daughter, her own favorite silver talisman, that of a respected man among the elves, old and bearded, with a pattern of looping knots on the edge.

Whether this was the best choice for Seirih, or not, was yet to be determined. Either way she was fated to a harsh punishment she in no way deserved. In the city of drow she was not allowed to walk outside the house without her light skin being covered up in some way. This existence was daunting and she found to others to be cruel, even though they just thought she was an orphan of some kind. And her father... so stern. And why did he not just tell them how great her mother was, if he thinks so highly of her.

On her twenty-fifth birthday she was given her mother's silver talisman on a leather thong along with the entire truth about her mother. When she learned enough to survive traveling on her own, she did. Her father knew it was for the best and let her leave. He was most grateful at that time that she was not highly respected, as he was, as she could leave freely and not be remembered as “on the other side” to the highly hierarchical drow city.

She left only with the necessities and a scar. A great wound of maltreatment, and lack of personal connections. And, while she loved her father, and he her, there was a great gap between them that had formed between the years.

================================================== ========

She was found welcome in Corone, after years of travel. There she met a captain of the guard, Cygnus, a man of much presence, yet with problems of his own. His thought of the perfect woman was somebody to increase others respect in himself, and what better than a wild drow. He was in no way the perfect man, but Seirih destructively fought through a marriage to him, as few she met seemed to care, and the rest she didn't bother to try with.

Cygnus eventually in the marriage became captivated by the woman that was already his wife. In this time Leriat, the strange-child, was born, but into a broken family. Mother and father were at odds, and Leriat growing to know mostly this and his own strange heritage.

The situation only became worse and Seirih finally left after 6 years of marriage, young Leriat at her hips. They traveled for two years alone, which was hard on the child, especially with very few people to speak with. At the end of the two years they found a shrine to a god neither had ever known about. A god mostly teaching of mercy and forgiveness. Seeing that they were welcome well enough to stay and help keep the shrine in working order they took up residence. Shortly after, hardly knowing anything about the god, Seirih joined the religious. It puzzled Leriat to find she felt she had some great sinful burden upon her that needed to be lifted.

Just as her mother before him, he found the life he lived stuffy, although he did like well enough the few monks that lived with them at the shrine, and he dearly loved his mother, he felt just the studies they put him through and adventures into the wilderness just weren't enough. He needed more, always more.

At age 32, taking with him his traveling supplies and his favored “toys,” which had taken many pains and efforts to acquire, he left on his own, eventually finding Corone, just like his mother before him.

Skills: Racial properties- Just like a normal half-elf Leriat has lifespan, lightfootedness, and hearing above that of an average human. All of these are about halfway between elf and human norms.

Physical skills-
Swordplay- Leriat is novice, because nobody taught him anything and never owned anything more than his cane and sticks. Prefers short blades.
Chain weapons- So far only has experience with weighted chain. Yet again, still a novice.
Shurikenjutsu- Novice again. Only has experience with rocks. Can hit a 6 inch radius circle at 5 feet nearly every throw, and has enough accuracy at 10 feet to most often hit a stationary object the size of two humans abrest.
Survival- Knows enough to get by for a while in the wilds, provided he's not being chased.

Magic skills- based on energy. All spells attempt to only effect energy outside of Leriat, but, unfortunately, to do anything effectively he must have prepared energy stored in himself, which is dispersed during spellcasting. This energy is the same that we know of, plus I shall incorporate a couple more. The regular energies, which are those known by scientists of the 21st century are separated into two types, mechanical and waves. The mechanical are: Rotational, Atomic/Nuclear, Binding, Electrical, Chemical, Heat, and Food. The wave type are: Solar Radiation, Electromagnetic, Infrared, Radio, Gamma, Microwaves, Ultraviolet, Sound, and Water. Those of both types are: Potential, and Kinetic (Taken from a science website that I can't post because of spammers, but you may look up "Energy types" online to find these on another site.) The special, or unknown energies are: Element (one for fire, water, earth, and air. Each usually represents a state of matter, plasma, liquid, solid, and vapor, yet are not limited to these.)(elemental energies are actually a mixture the regular energies, with differences in the types of energy as ingrients and amounts, becoming formulaeic. Although it is formulaeic one need not know math, because the types and amounts are felt and memorized by the body, like muscle memory. To use this skill one need not even know of Spirit/Ether energy, because these four elements naturally combine effortlessly with anything close to the right formula), and Spirit/Ether (the energy of life and creation, this energy is what binds the other energies to a productive cause in the natural world and keeps balance. This skill is needed to combine formulae that do not become one of the four elements.)

Immortal's Touch lvl 0- Feels energy in the area (what type, how much, and where at). Leriat can only determine energy types he has knowledge of. At level zero this is a ten foot radius and is able to determine general amount and direction and must take about 10 seconds to focus enough to be this accurate. At this level Leriat is unable to tell the direction of the energy types he knows of.

Fabricate lvl 0- The base for most of his magic. This spell allows Leriat to draw an energy type, and/or change surrounding energies to that type, provideded he has sufficient knowledge of that energy type. At level zero energy production and concentration time are both pretty bad. Not enough to start a fire, yet takes more than 10 seconds to a minute to do, depending on the task and how much energy he has reserved in himself. Full power range is 3 feet, ½ power range is 6 feet, beyond this Leriat is unable to connect with energies. Since Leriat doesn't know any energy types yet this creates/disperses a random energy with possibly undesirable affects, although possibly desirable as well. Either way this level isn't powerful enough to really do a whole lot either way.

Weapons- cane-sized walking stick- no sheath, often already in hand, dagger (41/2' blade), mostly a tool- sheath on his belt, and a weighted chain roughly half his height- hidden behind his back, under the jacket.

Armor- leather jacket, leather boots

Other equipment/items- basic traveling supplies

Okay, I understand the racial abilities, but others might not, so you need to explain their strengths.

After that, please change all the 'lvl 1' to 'lvl 0', and then weed through and pick just a couple of skills. We start out quite weak here, and you have a rather powerful character posted, and waaaay too many skills.

just one thing though. would explaining that he recovers energy by meditating be concidered a skill?

and is this few of skills enough, or should i take away more?

Meditating doesn't need to be a skill, nah.

Hi! I'm Cyrus! Abbie's detained, so I'm bustin' in here to take over. Welcome!

For swordplay as a skill, it needs to be considered 'novice', 'below average', 'average' or something of that nature, just as a way to kind of gauge his ability. If you want to keep the other magic/ skills, make him a novice swordsman.

Besides that, you're okay. For clarity's sake, though, you might want to explain this energy a bit and some of the different types. Your character might not know them, but having some OOC information will make his powers a little more understandable to anyone who reads your profile. It's not neccessary though.
