Profile
I’ve been here under a few different names in the past, but none of them stuck. Hopefully I’ll find the conviction to stay under this handle this time. Nice and simple:
Quickie style
Name: Anteni
Race: Human
Ethnicity: Corone; coastal Yarborough
Gender: Male
Age: 18
Hair: Dirty blonde
Eyes: Dark brown
Physique: 6’ 1†150 lbs; moderate build; weathered, tan skin
All you need
Appearance: Imagine your average joe schmoe, just younger. Anteni has the roughened, toughened look of a young man accustomed to manual labor; there are neither bulging muscles nor twig-like limbs (nudge nudge) to be found on his body. The Coronian enjoys loose-fitting, utilitarian clothing, and has never donned jewelry or trinkets. An oval face and a pointy nose make for a contradictory face; two lucid, brown eyes settle nicely upon this countenance. Facial hair has sprouted about his jaw and lips and he rarely finds the effort to shave – short hair, however, is his preference.
History: Anteni was born into a small family found on the southern coast of Corone, in the Yarborough region. His was an isolated childhood: all he knew were a couple other children from a few surrounding miles and his own siblings, of which there were three, all older males. His father was a callous man who cared for little other than the next meal and booze – though, he was committed to teaching all his children how to defend themselves via swordplay. His mother showed her care by endeavoring to teach her children how to read and write, but she knew no lore or history.
The small family tended a mediocre plot of land, just enough to subsist; a bad harvest was offset by the generosity of the ocean. Still, the environment could be harsh, and healers were far and expensive. When Anteni was twelve, his mother died; at eighteen, his father did likewise. There had always been dormant animosity between the brothers, and by this time it was open competition over the land to be inherited. Knowing he was youngest and least skilled in combat, Anteni resolved to leave shortly after his father’s passing. He has since headed north, stopping at Underwood on his way to Radasanth.
Personality: One with a more voluminous mind may consider this young man to be a part of the “ignorant rabble,†but Anteni is no one’s fool. In this world of competition, lies, and trickery, he applies a healthy dose of skepticism to all of his senses. He is something of a rogue caught up with a newfound principle of sacrifice; the Coronian’s skepticism leads to aloofness and cynicism, but his past and an evolving morality have taught him that looking out solely for number one is not a path to happiness.
Skills
Sword-fighting: This, alcoholism, and skepticism were the legacy of Anteni’s father. The young man was taught the essentials of swordplay in a variety of situations – a single-opponent duel, a skirmish, and even the basics of survival in a wartime scenario. Heavy armor and shields were not available, so Anteni was trained with an emphasis on fluidity; for example, parrying blows, evading completely, and using the opponent’s own strength against him or her. Still, flexible armors, such as leather, are preferable to only cloth and skin. As for specific weapon types, Anteni is capable with most one-handed swords but enjoys the balance of power and speed found in short swords.
Physical fitness: This came with eighteen long years of fishing, farming, and training on the coast of southern Corone. Anteni is no superhuman, but he can work, travel, or fight for many hours, depending on the intensity of said activities. Besides his human will to survive, the Coronian has youth, flexibility, strength, and speed to call upon in his endeavors. His physical prowess likely rivals that of most conscripts and guards, but he has not yet endured the torturous trials of professional soldiers and mercenaries.
Equipment
Short sword: Taken from his father’s equipment right before Anteni departed the coast. The blade is ordinary steel, approximately two feet in length, and double-edged.
Hard leather armor: Also from his father; Anteni’s brothers were likely angered to find these two heirlooms missing, along with their younger sibling. The leather has been boiled and stitched together well enough, although it is old; it protects the chest and back, and allows complete movement of shoulders, arms, and legs.
