Name: Maelle Villeneuve

Race: Half Human, Half Valinthe
Age: 26
Height: 5'9
Weight: 115 lbs
Occupation: Covert Operative – Specializing as an Information Broker, Negotiator, and Grifter

Appearance
Her voice sings of charisma, her body language is a dance of confidence, and her smile shines of vulnerability. Her shining auburn hair is always impeccably styled, her makeup covers most of the freckles that dot her face like cinnamon snowflakes, and light eye shadow perfectly frames the pair of teal jewel eyes that seem to go on endlessly. It is clear to all that know the Villeneuves that Maelle is by far the most feminine of the women.

Personality
Vespasian, Maelle’s younger brother, has described her quite nicely.

Our middle sister can be characterized as doing bad things for good reasons. Maelle is quite the opposite. She’ll do good things for bad reasons. Maelle is indeed the greatest bearer of good deeds in comparison to the others in the Villeneuve family, but behind it all she is no different from the spies around her. She has a functionalist, selfish, or vein reason behind every deed she does. Despite this she is able to empathize more willingly than the others and sometimes uses functionalist reasoning to backward rationalize acts of compassion or charity. Maelle also has a physical aversion to killing that forces her to vomit every time she’s has to take a life. It’s not that she thinks killing is bad or beneath her… it’s just yucky.

History
The eldest child of the Villeneuve family was born on the island of Corone, in the middle of one of her parents’ missions in which her mother, Alix, took advantage of her status as a pregnant woman. They had to leave the mission as baby Maelle hastily left Alix’s womb. Upon looking at their beautiful first child, Alix & Esme decided they needed to make a major adjustment to their dangerous spy lifestyle by finding some way to at least partially secure Maelle’s safety. They approached the highest security officials of each major Northern Althanas Nation (Corone, Alerar, Raiaera, Salvar, Fallien, and Haidia) and struck a deal. Alix & Esme would travel the Althanas seas as merchants, and as they made landfall they would assist each nation with internal matters only. The intelligence officials of every country would exchange Alix & Esme’s exploits as a system of checks and balances. This way if one nation maligned their deeds, another would step up to either disprove their story or safely harbor the Villeneuves. It was their love for Maelle that began their spy tradition, and it was their love for Maelle that made The International their home.

Ludivine was born almost exactly one year after Maelle, and then came Vespasian. The cost of having three children forced Alix & Esme to make their merchant cover a legitimate one. They found themselves quite good at it, but Maelle was even better. It was when she was seventeen that her father, Esme revealed that they were spies as well as merchants, and that her interpersonal skills would be invaluable in the clandestine professions. At first her training was hopeless to say the least. While she was physically fit, she wasn’t coordinated for hand to hand or armed combat, she was too clumsy for stealth, and too impatient for thievery. It seemed as though the eldest Villeneuve child, and the first to be invited into the spy trade, was not fit to be a spy. Just before her parents gave up on her they realized that she would be able to fill a niche that neither of them could, information broking. They taught her everything they knew about negotiations, psychology, and even con art. She absorbed the information like a sponge, and began work in the field.

Her first years in field work was a manic journey of extreme hardships but even greater rewards. Unfortunately her rewards were shared with her partner in crime, her younger sister Ludivine. Unlike Maelle, the middle sister made their parents proud with physical prowess, she wowed them with her stealth abilities, and she had managed to find out the family secret before Maelle – which she felt was an honor reserved for her. The odd pair saw more success than failure yet never failed to find something to argue about. It was during this time that they conceded to the reality of their relationship: they loved each other; they didn’t have to like each other.

The most frightening period of her life followed directly after, when her beloved little brother, whom the family deemed was not capable of taking part in the clandestine profession, stumbled upon the family secret and enthusiastically jumped into the profession. Not only was she afraid for Vespasian, who, at the time, was unfocused, dim witted, and clumsy, she was afraid for their parents. Esme was the only member of the family who had faith in Vespasian. Everyone else disagreed thus creating a three year battle of the sexes that nearly ended his marriage with Alix. Much to her and every other Villeneuve woman’s surprise, Vespasian emerged not only as a talented covert operative, but as the most intellectually gifted member of the family. The damage was done, however, and Vespasian bore a deep resentment for the Villeneuve Women, and Maelle has worked to rectify her underestimation of him ever since.

Although she is the only member of the family that doesn’t regularly engage in battle, her interpersonal skills and her Valinthe ability has been invaluable to the family. It was her charisma that brought Lillian Sesthal to their side when they needed to face the emerging threat of the Valinthe in Alerar. It was also her ability to empathize with the Rogue Kilick in Raiaera that made him vulnerable to Alix’s death blow. Since their encounter with the Raiaeran Rogue, the family has pledged exclusive service to Alerar.

Skills
Sociology/Psychology: Maelle is a student of behavior, and through extensive studies and experiences has become versed in the science of behavior, mental processes, and societal influences. She is able to apply her knowledge of behavior to situation to accurately detect basic emotions in others as they give unconscious queues. Because of her advances in Cognitive Psychology she is able to make subtle changes in her body language and verbal language alike to win the favor of even the most abrasive of persons.

Con: Maelle has an extensive knowledge of con schemes that she runs on the marks governments sick her on.

Scribe: On a mission in Luthmor Maelle had to use the cover of a student in Eolas Braoin, where she learned how to scribe Glyphs, Wards, and Sigils. She can use them to create various effects on items, locations and people. Her Sigils are often that of the family’s animal, the fox, and the family’s complex coat of arms. The family’s ship The International, is riddled with hidden wards that she’s carved into the wood. However these magical inscriptions are not something she can create in mere seconds. Her simplest inscriptions take at least ten minutes, and they may create a weak effect that only lasts as long as it took to make them. If she is to create a long lasting, powerful, or permanent effect that is accurate to her intentions she needs time and lots of it. Maelle has great talent in this field.

Forgery: The process of making, adapting, or imitating objects, statistics, or documents with the intent to deceive. Maelle is particularly talented with patents of nobility, treasury notes, and signatures.

Archery: The art of propelling arrows with the use of a bow. Maelle picked it up as a hobby recently as a stress relief. She has impeccable aim through an understanding of geometry and physics, but her muscles, once barely existent, are getting used to the upper body demands of the art. She is well above average.

Abilities

Etherial Aura: This ability has been revealed to be a part of her Valinthe heritage, and represents her vanity and her desire to be remembered. When unfocused it appears as a violet radiation that surrounds her body, but she has managed to turn it into a weapon. She can manipulate its visibility, luminosity and state of matter (liquid, solid, gas). She can manipulate its temperature from boiling hot to ice cold. She can reshape it into any form (like a blade [steel strength]...), add (120 lb max) and take away (weightless) from its mass. Her restrictions are that she can only use an amount corresponding to her own size. The only tell she has for this aura is her corresponding hand gestures. She particularly favors a few uses of this aura in battle.

Psionic Aura: Maelle can convert the aura to overload another's mind. This is usually nonlethal simply causing mental pain, but it can cause memory loss, lack of consciousness, vegetative state or death after prolonged or focused exposure. She often uses it as missiles, blasts, and inconspicuous touches.

Flight: Unlike the other members of her family, Maelle is not accustomed to battle. When she feels it is appropriate to escape her aura enhances the flight in her Fight or Flight response and literally sends her flying. This only happens in times of extreme duress, and she lacks control.

Villeneuve Transformation: The races in Maelle's sketchbook include the following... Raiaeran Elf, Dark Elf, Dwarf, Fae

Note: Maelle is unaware that she has the following abilities.

Wizard’s Voice: In her constant grifitng efforts and ability to connect with others, Maelle has unintentionally developed a Wizard’s Voice that is shown as underlined Times New Roman. Maelle’s voice echoes in the mind of her target, and there is a rare chance that it results in Hyper Induction – the overriding of one’s will.

Wizard’s Hat: Maelle almost always fashions her hair into a single braid wreath that wraps around her head and connects in the back. Most wizards have pointy headgear, but her wizard’s hat is this hairstyle. Many wizards use their hats as a catalyst for defensive spells. Maelle’s unlikely hat does this by temporarily blocking or reflecting some arcane attacks during times of danger.

Wizard’s Wand: Maelle carries a feather quill from a Raiaeran White Falcon with her at all times. Most wizards have proper wands or staffs that act as a catalyst for offensive spells. Maelle’s unlikely wand sometimes does this with a repelling spell that blasts aggressors away from her during times of danger.

Wizard’s Eye: Maelle is able to sense supernatural abilities in others. It manifests as a feeling of familiarity, and she’s only able to make a ballpark estimate of one’s abilities. She’s unaware that this is an ability that stems from her emerging magical talents. Instead she credits this to her interpersonal skills.

Side-note: Maelle must be the weakling of the family ;)
