Roscar Palidyne
08-14-06, 10:01 PM
Name: Roscar Palidyne
Age: 56
Race: Human
Hair Color: Silver Grey
Eye Color: Green
Height: 6' 1"
Weight: 230 lbs

Occupation: General

Personality: Before his change ((see History section)), one would describe Roscar as snarky and mean, a leader who lead with a firm hand and an overbearing presence. When crossed, he had a furious temper which could only be rivaled by the flames of hell itself. However, now that he had lost his memory, he is confused and lost, regarding the places around him as new. He is timid and polite, and is empathetic to those who need his help, though he cannot remember how he came to be this way.

Appearance: Upon looking at him, one would see a somewhat tall individual, firmly muscled, though certainly no longer at the peak of his physical condition. His black studded leather armor would make one think this man is someone to be feared, but his placid and questioning face completely contradicts this idea. His face carries battle scars, and yet his demeanor shows a more benign individual. His hair is long and silver grey, wild, untamed, extending down to his middle back, and yet his tanned and scarred face is more apt to carry a charitable smile than a furious glare. Roscar appears to be a walking contradiction, a soft old man who somehow ended up in the body of an angry beast-like warrior.

History: A scumbag. Liar. Cheat. Bully. A self-centered double-crossing slimeball who served as nothing but a waste of oxygen with his very breath. Roscar, he's been called all these things through the last parts of his life. He didn't care much of what these others thought. They didn't care much for him either, so it was a perfect relationship rounded by apathy (and occasionally disgust). After being born by a shameless whore and a pennyless drunken thief, one blessing did occur.

They orphaned him.

After being left at the edge of a windy pier in Corone, Roscar ended up amongst the care of a fishing boat captain. Not out of the kindness of the old geezer's heart, but because the captain knew that a shiphand would be of great help. As Roscar grew into a young boy, he began to realize one thing about this captain: the only thing that was more repulsive then his distorted face was his arrogant, self-serving personality. Roscar wasn't really as much of a son to the captain as he was a slave, pushed into cleaning up the boat, pulling up the fishnets, and whatever else the captain needed. This parentage by way of pain and fear lead into the inevitable running away from home when he hit the age of 17, after nearly killing the old man out of self-defense.

So, on his own, Roscar emerged into the inner city of Corone with high hopes of prosperity and success. What waited for him were shysters that screwed him over at every attempt. Many years passed as he grew accustomed to a hard existence, scrapping whatever he could to get by. He even stooped so low as to take the path his father trod, petty thievery such as stealing purses on the streets or pilfering houses at the dead of night. This pitiful existence grew weary. Upon pilfering a short spear, Roscar began to hire himself out to the highest bidders.....for any line of work. In this, he grew successful and respected amongst the underground community, so well that he soon became general for a small mercenary's guild called The Caeruleans, which specialized in water warfare and stealth.

Much time passed, and much blood was spilt in the name of greed and financial security. At the ripe old age of 56, Roscar was still maintaining the Caeruleans. Surrounded by cutthroats, he knew it was only a matter of time before he would be overtaken by a younger, stronger mercenary. Before he had a chance to retire, however, one of his original apprentinces, Horitz, caught him offguard, throwing him off a boat in the middle of the ocean, beaten and battered.

The next memory Roscar has is waking up in a warm but unfamiliar bed, wrapped in bandages and unable to move. An elf in extravagant robes and long white hair had apparently found him awashed ashore on his private beach. The wise elf takes care of Roscar while his wounds heal, and this act of kindness awakes something that Roscar hadn't felt in his heart for a long time: remorse. The time on the island had made him reflect on the life he had lead, and tears filled his eyes as he realized how many people's lives he had taken so he could no longer be a poor, destitute person. But he was getting too old to repay for his deeds. Already his health was failing him. Soon he wouldn't even be able to walk. The elf listens intently, and offers Roscar a way out. Putting a rather normal looking ring made of obsidian on his finger, the elf looks Roscar directly in the eyes, telling him that the spell he was about to cast would allow him to regain his youth and redeem his soul. For every good deed that Roscar performed, he would regain a little bit of his youth back, as long as he wore the ring on his finger. However, he would lose all of the memories, every single memory of his life, save his name. Looking back on the events of his life, he immediately agreed. The elf looks at him solemnly, nods, and begins to mumble words of evocation. The last thing that Roscar sees is the cool blue eyes of the elf, and a bright flash of light, as he says goodbye to his old, selfish life with a faint smile.

Skills: ((NOTE: Though he has forgotten the abilities he has, he will slowly begin to remember them as time progresses. The skills I list now are the ones that are innate and will always be retained, even if he doesn't exactly remembers he has them.))

Proficiency with Short Spears - Being the first weapon he obtained, in his previous life he trained himself, and was nigh unparalleled by anyone in his handling of short spears. However, because of his amnesia and old age, he has the skill of someone who has trained with a short spear for about a month: sloppy, but somewhat knows what he is doing.

Sailing - In his previous life, he captained many a boat and could have steered his crew out of any storm. Now he could perhaps pilot a small boat, but a galley would be too much for him.

Fishing - Though he was coerced into fishing as a kid, it became a hobby later on his life. Deep sea fishing was what he mostly did, but he could probably fish in fresh-water areas as well. He has knowledge of baiting, catching, and scaling, which could all easily come back to him should he put himself in that situation again.

Swimming - What kind of captain would he be if he couldn't swim? In his prime, he was quite an accomplished swimmer, but even now he could swim better than most common people.

Dextrous Hands - Like father, like son: When Roscar was living meagerly among the streets, he learned well how to swiftly and silently pickpocket people. Though thievery is no longer his line of work, perhaps he could put his nimble hands to other forms of use.

Rebirth of Righteousness - instilled upon him by the hermit elf, this magical enchantment allows Roscar to reverse the process of his aging for every act of goodness he performs. This is only valid if he wears his obsidian ring, though if the ring comes off, he does not go back to his original age, but just does not gain the benefits of the enchantment.

Equipment:

Azure Bastion, his custom-made short spear, sharpened and honed expertly, with a sapphire ornamented at its hilt, about 6 feet long, with a metal shaft. Its blade is wide, making it ideal for both stabbing and slashing. ((I WAS gonna show a picture of what it looks like, but looks like I can't, eh))

Black Studded Leather Armor with sturdy silver bracers.

Knife used for scaling fish

Obsidian Ring - though Roscar does not remember how he got it, he feels strangely attached to it. It seems to be extremely strong, and could probably not be destroyed by normal means.

I like your twisting around of the orphan story, and having a cruel captain raise your character rather than the more traditional benevolent type. I also am very much of a fan of tthe situation with the ring, good deeds, and the memories/age - great stuff.

So your character is approved for role-playing here on the forum, and will get a 100 EXP bonus. I'd like to invite you to introduce yourself to our community in the Introductions forum, which you can find in the Flying Stone Tavern. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Welcome!
