View Full Version : Who do you think will win the Serenti?

This is your thread to talk a little smack (keep it civil) or just tell us who you are rooting for. This is also where you should post any questions or just discuss the matches.
I am really excited as I loved reading the cell, and this will be my first time entering a tournament. I think tournaments force you to improve, especially when you are matched with the best that Althanas offers. What are ya'lls thoughts?
Edit:
I also feel a bit star-struck at having the possibility of writing with some of these people :)

Tournaments are definately a great way to improve. as far as who I think will win the Serenti? Bloodrose, he's an expert at combat RP, and as long as he's active, I think he's going to blow everyone else out of the water.
If he actually gets DQed from a no post, I'm going out on a limb here and saying one of Duffy's characters. He's got enough of em registered, after all :P

I think anyone will win other than me. =)

Bloodrose is certainly a tough competitor, as is Slayer of the Rot. They, along with Numbers, are the main people that I look forward to facing (And BaBE because we'd probably have a hilariously goofy battle). Bloodrose beat me by a tiny margin in the Magus Cup last year, but I've honed my abilities greatly since then. So... this should be interesting.
I'm just here to sharpen my edge with battles. I'm a strong writer and I'm expecting to be able to hold my own in a lot of fights. There's a lot of people in the tournament, and a great sample of our membership, and I'm interested and excited to see who my first opponent is.
Who will win? I don't know. Playing the fan favorite game and shittalking is cute and all, but it gets old. Best of luck to everyone.
The International

No idea...
Like Vigil, I just hope I can sharpen my skills.
I only have two registered :p

Bloodrose or Slayer.
Bloodrose has some of the best all-around writing I've seen on this site, and in all truth Slayer is the one person who would probably make me wet my pants a little and take another sudden hiatus should I have to fight.
Numbers would be my close third pick.
These are pending the time limit for the round, of course.
Should this tourney become a disappointing series of no-post DQs and lost interest sometime around the quarterfinals, like a part of me imagines it will be, then the final match (which nobody cares about) will be Christoph and myself. I will win by a scant two points due to a perfect wild card score and eloquent dialogue that earns either an 8.5 or a 9. This will be despite Christoph completely owning me in all mechanics categories.
So...
FINAL ANSWER: BlackAndBlueEyes
I like being a darkhorse. Muahahaha.

Ah, but as an old member, yet still a relative unknown, and a spotty track record in tournaments, I'm MUCH more the darkhorse.
But who do I really think will win? Who else? The Manda.
Of course Manda will. Who can compete with her? Noooooobody!
My money is on Relt in the top 3.
I picture Blank and Ruby being top 10, with Ruby coming out on top (of course she will, she's a domineering woman).
Bloodrose and Numbers and The International will compete for number one.

Ya know, reading this quest of orphans, I'm honestly thinking that he has a pretty decent shot at the title as well...
Christoph

Orphans is no joke. I expect a great many upsets in this tournament.
As long as I do better than I did in the Magus Cup I'm happy.

Take me to the zoo and you'll win instantly due to me being distracted by all the pretty animals. :D

Honestly with the amount of big names that are in this I have no idea what is going to happen. I -May- have peed a little from excitement when I saw that Bloodrose was on board. I also -May- have peed myself in fear when I saw that Slayer was on board. Either way this should be awesome.

*passes Amber Eyes some new pants*
There are so many sleepers in this, it's not even funny. Watch out for Atzar and Shadar and Solomon, off the top of my head. And Les Miz, of course :P
But to just pick one person out of the whole starting lineup... probably Relt PeltFelter. He's won before (albeit twas the LCC when teamed with almighty Manda), but he's got excellent short game, excellent combat sequences, some of the best dialogue on the site, and doesn't seem to have trouble posting quick. Until I've finalised and randomised the bracket, that's my prediction.

My couch is fucked.
Honest pick for winner: Meh, Sei. He's most likely to post in time. I just don't see a lot of the scary names keeping up with the time requirements. And I see a lot of the lower levels going down in flames ripping each other apart until a big name trumps em. Some of the level differences will make for interesting battles and I really look forward to the creativity to try and gap the difference.
Huh...I feel like typing something homicidal and grand to get myself psyched up, but the fact of the matter is, this is going to be a display of celestial power and naked brilliance. I suspect humility will taste like glorious dirt, this is gonna be awesome.
Any victory is a good victory in my book.
As far as a winner, I haven't seen Manda around for a while, same for Zook, and atrophy of the mind is a real thing. No guarantees though. Letho will be cool, and Numbers has this tournament in both hands. B.A.B.E. has universal respect. Was that an intentional acronym?
Losing may be a boon, honestly, because then I get to work on the events I miss. Its gonna be a good game for everyone, even the goons on the sidelines.

I certainly don't see me getting very far... It's been far too long since I did any serious prose; far too much time spent writing academic stuff I'm afraid. Either way, looking forward to dusting off the old rust.
As for a winner, I don't really know the Althanas folk too well but from what I saw of the ToC way back when, this should be a great display of writing talent.

I think if Letho and Sei meet in this tournament it could be quite unbelievable. Especially considering neither of us registered for it. ;)
As for my pick... I think one of the big guns will take it. Bloodrose is always a danger, even if he just pops in for the tourneys. Christoph as well. Even though he's not usually around, when he's in a tournament, he's active as all hell. Numbers is also a contender. Read some of his recent stuff and found it an improvement over the stuff in the Cell, which was already pretty damn good. Oh, also Atzar. I was quite surprise by him in the Cell and if he can bring his A game, he could be quite a nuisance. That crazy capybara.

You're just that good, man. Just. that. good. The rest of us might as well go home.
....if we're talking for srs though, if I had to pick, I'd say probably one of the old ones - Bloodrose, Numbers, etc. Oh, and Dan. I'm half hoping the brackets screw me over and I have to face him, just 'cuz being mean to Cael is a lot of fun. Mwaha.

Being powerful really just gives you less plausible things to do. Nobody wants to read the epic tale of a man who pisses prevaldia and winswithout effort. As aggrandizing as it is for the player's ego, it does nothing for the reader. Wish fullfilment meat bricks are a complete snore.

Top Four (because I couldn't even pick three with all of these people being in the brackets):
-Venessian
-Numbers
-Bloodrose
-Vigil
Meh, just my two cents.
At the same time I'd go with International, Zook, Inkfinger and really anybody else. It's going to be a good tournament, so much talent here.

To the newbies: Don't sweat the experience gap. Just make them bleed, sweat, and cry like little girls. Be ingenious. Be magnificent. And therefore, be victorious.
Keep with the "Wah, I don't stand a chance..." schtick and you're only jinxing yourself.
Failing that, even Joshua has a weak spot.
Well, most men do to be honest, it's between their legs.
Kick it, and kick it hard.

The way I look at it, given that the focus is on WRITING rather than the fighting aspect of these threads, you don't even need to worry about making your opponent bleed. Just have your character do everything they can, and if they lose, just make your telling of their loss better than your opponent's telling of their victory. (Speaking in IC terms, of course)
Visla Eraclaire

That's exactly correct. Losing is generally a more interesting story anyway. What's more challenging is having a reason to fight IC when you're character should reasonably know they're going to get the tar kicked out of them. That's one reason I don't participate in these things. It's just not befitting of a noblewoman to engaged in a series of cage matches, especially when the tournament has no legitimate IC existence.

I very rarely acknowledge tournaments in-character. Instead, I usually come up with ways to put battles into my character's storyline with varying degrees of emphasis. These days, I can more easily rationalize a trip to the Citadel since my character hangs around there more often now.

I want to win a battle with a kick to the nuts. Do you know how awesome that would feel? Anyways on to a more serious point. I think the Dark lord/good lord Shade AKA Uttam Random numbers will totally kick ass here at this tournament.

Shut up, friends! I'm going out on a limb to say that I am going to win this thing. I am surprised, however, to hear that other people feel the same way. Clearly I have not demonstrated my self-destructive downward spiral obviously enough. Before Round 3 of this thing, I will post a youtube video of myself weeping and eating a cheeseburger on the front stoop of a condemned pizzeria. Maybe that'll teach you nutsacks to expect things of me.
Seriously though, it's cool to see all the other old fogitrons coming back for this thing. It will be like a family reunion, only with less violence.

I remember in the LCC that we would get on aim and boast about how we were going to decimate everyone and win it all, so I assume that if you keep saying you're going to win, we should all just believe you. :D
