I guess this topic can be about some of the nerdiest things we've said while gaming. Fine, here's some gems from me.
(Star Ocean The Last Hope International)
Jess: Baby, come here a minute....
"Not now, I'm Edge Mavericking the shit outta this Grigori!"
(MvC3)
"I can't leave yet, Capcom isn't going to Versus itself!"
(Fallout 3)
"Hold on, there's a whole Capitol Wasteland to explore, and I WANT MY DADDY!"
(Warriors: Legends of Troy)
"Can't you see I'm trying to make every greek tragedy that ever happened unfold?!"
(DW7)
"Listen babe, I'm unifying China right now, if I go to bed, who's going to tragically watch all the good officers of Wu die?"
Think that's all I got for now.

My standard nerdy response: "I'm in the middle of a post. Try again later."
Other responses
"I'm reading."
"I can't leave in the middle of a boss fight."
"I'm in the middle of updating my profile."
"If I lose my place, you'll regret it."
Common Complaints
"Great... now I can't remember what I was doing. Thanks a lot..."
"I told you that if I left before finishing I'd end up missing something."
"Perfect... twenty minutes of writing wasted. Thanks, Mother Nature, for the ill-placed storm clouds."

@Sei, those are extremely funny! Most of the time our conversations were based around 'progress' and 'reset timers' and 'respawns.' (It's been a few years since we MMO'd seriously, what with certain games becoming absolute jokes or going up in flames at launch.)
One common thing heard: 'Sec guys, bio break.'
The day I knew my cool had died and was replaced by parenthood: 'Hold on guys, don't engage yet. The tank is going potty.' Thank God I wasn't the only parent in the raid and it was my own legion.

Many times have I said "Not now, this gym leader needs his/her ass whooped," or "One sec; teaching little Joey that his Rattata is indeed not in the top (explitive) percentage of Rattata."
On a side note, Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal could be the only video game I ever play from this day forward, and I would be cool with that.

Oh no you di'int.
I've probably put over 1,500 hours into my copy of Pokemon Blue through multiple playthroughs like most of the kids our age who had good taste did; but as far as I'm concerned, Gen 2 is where shit got real.
Silence Sei
08-27-11, 01:22 PM
Gen 2 was the start of "We ran out of ideas on what to give you for starters, so we're going to copy Gen 1."
Seriously, think about it. Crocodile instead of a turtle that shoots water, Plant things that resemble dinos that we aren't sure what the hell they are, and the fire based animal that, oh look at that, ARE QUITE LITERALLY ON FIRE!
Gen 3 and 4 followed pretty much the same path with light alterations. (Mudkips evolutions were the WTFs, Turtwig was a turtle, but was also the plant type, etc etc)
All I ever wanted in Pokemon sequels was to start out with a starter that was -not- water, fire, or plant. Would it kill Nintendo to give us a flying, bug, steel, or hell, GHOST type for one freaking game?!

As awesome as it would be to rock a fighting/psychic/dark starter trio, using grass/fire/water as a constant makes sense to me from an introductory perspective.
Look at it like this: there's a new mainline Pokemon generation every four years. A new set of young'uns, who were too young for the previous generation, will be screaming at their parents to buy it, because OMG PIKACHU WAAAAAAH. For these seven and eight year olds, the concept of water, fire, and grass is an easier concept for them to understand, allowing them dip their toes into the weakness/resistance mechanics of the game without being overwhelmed right off the bat.
Besides, Typhlosion and Feraligatr > everything else any professor could give you. Fact.

Why the hell does VI have less time than VII, VIII, or that godforsaken horrible IX?
I've actually maxed out my FFVII timer both my playthroughs. I'm not satisfied until each of my characters wins survival battles.....

Simply put, I added FFVI to my collection about four years after the others, and haven't finished maxing out on it yet due to a lost PSONE aerial. It should be noted at this time that FFVIII is STILL my favorite, despite it being ridiculously easy at the point where Drain is junctioned to ST-Atk, and Ultima is junctioned to Atk stat.

FFVII becomes ridiculously easy when you junction anything to anything.
Example; My first game was won by Yuffie alone, because she had max attack, and 2 4x attack materias.
She pwned Sephiroth so bad, I wouldn't have been surprised if she jumped in during the Cloud-Sephy 1vs1 and said 'I got this, boy.'

This pretty much highlights a problem I have with latter FF games though. FFVII, VIII and IX (with the exception of Ozma) suffer from an inherent issue whereby the game becomes stupidly easy once you get to grips with the system you are using. Junction gives you licence to smash everything to pieces and abuse Drain, Materia chains make you practically undefeatable, and in IX you can abuse Dragon Crest and Thief to your hearts content. The final bosses don't even really compensate for this difficulty curve.
However, FFVI suffers not from this problem, but another one. It is actually very, very difficult. I love it for that, because it makes you work for your win. I remember trying to get the jewel box from the top of Kefka's fanatics tower...how many times did I die? Probably over twenty. I felt like I actually achieved something when I completed that, only to discover I didn't get Umaro! Argh. Schoolboy error!

VI can also be ridiculously easy as well. The Vanish, X-Zone combo takes care of a good portion of the difficult fights. Gau with the right monster annhilates, and don't get me started with the brokeness that is Gogo (Who I am still convinced is Realm's father).

I could live with Leo or Celes, but Locke...meh.
You can put money on there being another Dissidia and a whole host of new characters getting introduced. I would like to start seeing some of the more ambigious characters getting a shout though. Selphie / Quistis from FFVIII, Vincent / Cid from FFVII, Sabin / Setzer from FFVI, Vivi / Beatrix from FFIX, Seymour from FFX.
Anyone mentions Zack or Genesis and i'll slap you down.

Most of your characters probably have little to no chance.
VI will more likely than not give us Locke (Who is better than Celes anyways, but I would have loved to see Setzer myself)
VII will be Aerith, put money on that, though I'd like Yuffie/Cait Sith
VIII is going to be Seifer, you can put money on that too. If not him, Rhinoa. Quistis would be 4th string, her or Zell. I would want...Kiros? Was that his name?
IX would give us the princess chick who I have no interest in, much like much of that games cast, but Freya would be my wanted character.
X is going to be Seymour, no doubt. They already have Jecht, Tidus and Yuna. I'd preferr Wakka or Rikku myself though
Never played XI, barely played XII, and just started XIII.
Now, if they gave us Galuf/Farris for V, and Parom/Palom from IV, I'd be overjoyed, but any more characters from V are unlikely, and IV has to give us Golbez (He hasn't been in there, right?) Rydia, Cecils love interest whose name escapes me, Edward, even Tellah would get in before the twins.

I wouldn't complain too much if Seifer got a shout. I was surprised it wasn't him from the offset, actually, but I think they got it right with Ultimecia. Kiros and Ward would be two good additions!
FFVII is hit and miss to me in Dissidia now. Cait Sith would be more of a novelty addition, Yuffie would be interesting to see though.
Golbez has indeed been in both as Cecil's rival, but I happen to love his character and moveset so he'll be in my wanted list again for sure. Rydia could do with a look in, though!
As for FFX, the only way they could improve the Roster is by adding Seymour, Wakka or Lulu.

I hate how people think of Cait Sith as a novelty. That freaking cat PREDICTED THE ENDING OF THE GAME, Hell, he predicted the ending of Disc 1!
Furthermore, being a spy for Shinra officially gave him more character than half of the cast (Way more than Blank Slate Cloud, at least), not to mention that the crew would not have had any idea as to what was going on if he didn't give them step-by-step freaking directions to Hojo.
Cait Sith is the face of double angent-ness, and he's a bad ass because of it. Furthermore, he was not only the first 'party member' death of the protagonists, but he came back.
The fact that a Cait Sith 2 was even freaking prepared, and one that had all the skills of its predecessor means that Reeve could have won the game -by himself-, with an army of Moogle mounted cats. There is nearly nothing more bad ass than that.
I honestly think he just kept with Clouds crew to give Sephiroth a chance.

- The Megaman Series

- The Megaman Zero Series
- The Pokemon Trading Card Game (That's the GameBoy Color game, for y'all youngin's.)
- Summon Night: Swordcraft Story
As of this moment there are 0 Megaman games in existence that I have not beaten.
Also, for argument's sake:

You cannot argue with the awesome.
Bringing back the "Time & achievements docked in a game" counter for a single post...
FFVII - Around 80 hours on my first playthrough, 100% complete.
FFIX - Around 75 hours, sadly could never complete everything in this one, though I did beat it.
FFX - Nearly 120+ hours. Goddamn the monster arena and the Dark Aeons, the latter which I still have to beat.
FFXII - Nearly 105+ hours with all hunts complete, including Yiazmat.
Wild ARMs - Nearly 50+ hours, 100% complete.
Wild ARMs 3 - Nearly 80+ hours over two playthroughs. Still have to beat the Abyss but pretty much completed everything else.
Wild ARMs 5 - Nearly 60+ hours over two playthroughs. Missing several cameo costumes. :<
Pokemon Yellow - I have to give props to my brother for this one; he beat the E4 nearly 200 times several years ago. I ALWAYS got bored after the first 5 times or so. Only plus is probably a lv 100 Hypno.
Pokemon Black - Not exactly an achievement since it's completely random. Hatched a Shiny Timid Deino from the first egg my Hydreigon laid. <.<
Megaman Legends 2 - 25+ hours, 100% complete, including Zero's Zetsabre.
And I guess that's it! I'm pretty sure there're more but I can't remember.

There's a game I haven't played in a long time. I remember loving that game so hard once I thought I was "too old" for Pokemon. I never did get around to beating it--it vanished along with my copy of Dragon Warrior I/II on the Gameboy.

GIGA!!! DRILL!!! BREEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been playing Disgaea 4 and Valkyria Chronicles lately. I particularly love the latest main character and story in the Disgaea series, even if the necessity of mana grinding is a bit frustrating. But then again, that's what stage creation is for!
I'd played Valkyria Chronicles before, when I was living with a couple friends of mine, and nearly beaten it. Such a wonderful game, and Scouts get so ridiculous as you level and equip them. I'd gotten 1 turn skirmishes down to a science, abusing the movement range of Scouts and Engineers, and the throwing strength of grenades to get bases cleared and occupied.
Shhh, don't mention Disgaea 4...
It's not out here until November 11th :(
