View Full Version : The... uhm... don't-know-the-number Official Althanas Gaming Thread
Yeah, I made a couple of these some time ago, and every time I make one, I tell myself I'll start making these regularly, and yet I never do. But anyways, let's talk about games again, because I'm certain there are avid gamers amidst the Althanas population. I personally play a lot of them of all genres, though RPGs are still my favorite by far, but that's not what I want to talk about this time around.
So onto the topic. I have two questions for you.
1. What's that hardest thing you EVER did in games? Be it beating a certain boss, certain stage, the game in its entirety or just completing some mission, quest, whatever. Name one thing that you feel was the most difficult for you to achieve.
2. And second, what's the hardest thing you NEVER did? Is there a boss that kicked your ass so hard you didn't finish it, a stage so frustrating you had to use cheats? Anything you never managed to complete goes here.
The hardest thing I ever did... is kind of hard. I generally don't challenge myself too much with games. The way I see it, there are far too many games out there that I would waste too much time on any one thing. So if something pisses me off really bad, I skip it if it's skippable, lower the difficulty or as the very last resort cheat (though if I ever cheat in a game, I never play that game again). However, there are some things that stubbornly refused to give way and I stubbornly refused to back down. One of them is a match in Pro Evolution Soccer between Russia and Italy. Me and my sister were playing with Russia (for God knows what reason) which sucks and Italy was probably one of the strongest teams in the game. It took us months and dozens and dozens of replays to beat those motherfuckers until we managed to beat them 2-0. It became almost a daily thing. Turn on the Playstation, lose to Italy, go do something else, do it again tomorrow.
Now, the hardest thing I never did. The Celestial Weapons in Final Fantasy X. Now, let me just say that I absolutely love FFX. I've beaten it close to ten times and alongside Dragon Age: Origins and Deus Ex, it's my favorite game of all time. But getting Cadalbog and Onion Knight fully charged is just ridiculous. Chocobo race under 0:0:0?! Dodge lightning 200 times in a row?! Fuck that shit. Never managed to do it. Never got even close. :(
Anyways, let's hear it from you.

Hardest thing I ever did? Toss up between beating Super C on the NES without the extra lives code, and winning the Super Bowl with the New England Patriots in Tecmo Super Bowl. Took three losses in that season, and said "close enough".
The hardest thing I never did was a run-through of Dragon Warrior 3 on the NES without a party. Soloing that game is haaaard, and I barely made it off the first continent before throwing in the towel.
Beating Eidol on max difficulty with Cinder on the original Killer Instinct.
Not being able to complete Grandia 3 because on the way back from the Royal City after the political plot goes tits up, the things in the ruins that spam INSTA-KILL FLAME SPELL would never let me catch a break.

I don't really know how to choose...and I've played so many damn games too haha.
Umm actually on that one halo odst, me and my friends got the achievement in its horde wave mode or whatever. I just remember it was ridiculous. Other than that I don't really play rpgs to challenge myself. And I don't try and get all the weird achievements some games have. I mainly just try and rape in cod mw2. Pushing my level of raping or fighting off other rapists can be difficult....
As for giving up...sometimes I get bored with an rpg that requires grinding every different area when i just wanna get on with the story.
P.s. grandia 3 is epic!! Along with chrono cross and legend of dragoon. Also suikoden 3. Hehe.

On topic...
1) Hardest thing I've done:
Recently... erm... That's a hard question... Ringing for cal-i teams in CS back in the day? Oh high school days...
2) Hardest thing I've never done:
I got this! So, if anyone ever played the old school original X-Com UFO Defense, you'll get this immediately.
Nighttime terror mission in some god forsaken town in the middle of Canada (no names of places, just semi locations. Spans the whole globe though!)
Had a ship full of fresh rookie recruits (10), all with laser rifles and a gratuitous amount of grenades ( 2 frag and 1 proximity per solider).
Figure I was good and loaded in, first thing I see:
6 Cryssalids hanging around outside the entrance to my ship. I alt-f4ed and started a new game after I super sad faced.

I've found that the best medicine against noob tubes is to pack one yourself. It's like being back in elementary school--bullies don't like it when you fight back.
Can also be applied to picking Oddjob in GoldenEye 64 before your trollface friend who always plays as him.

Ninja Gaiden: Black on Very Hard. I just stopped playing because it was on the original xbox and I was going to switch to 360. But I did beat it on regular hard, and would have likely finished very hard with enough time.
I guess that passes as both answers, but I never tried the ultima weapons in FFVII.

Pshhawwee, more like my protube xD... To be fair, I used to be a dead shot with the tube and impacted people more when I didn't know about danger close. After I found out... well... I started getting lazy...
But yeah... it's lame for sure~ My usual load out is:
Scavenger
Danger Close
Last stand
Usually Tar with tuwebsssss
RPG or AT-4
Claymores
Flashbangs or Smoke
UVA
Counter-UAV
Predator
Final Stand

My friends and I always played on -10 hp anyway.... kinda like licensed to kill, except... not...
But yeah... I love when people fight back too! :D... I steal their gun with a tube, and then I have double rainbow tubes!
Yes... I am about as lame as a turtle with a hernia.
Folks, try to keep in on topic. FPSs suck the nads nowadays anyways, so let's not dwell on them overmuch. ;)
Artemis, I once tried to play Ninja Gaiden Sigma on PS3. I had to play it on the lowest difficulty setting (Ninja Dog, I believe) and I was still pissing blood. I suck at actiony games. It's always like: press these eleven buttons in rapid succession while hopping on one foot and singing the Turkish national anthem to pull of a combo that might not even hit. :(

Sigma is "roughly" the same game as black, with a few changes. I actually just bought sigma a week or so ago because i wanted my friend to try it on my ps3, since i haven't had black for a while. Let a friend borrow it and i'm pretty sure it won't work on my 360 anyways. But yeah, I played it through on normal, and i'm a veteran. Took me about 8 hours of gameplay to get through and I had a few patches that still caught me. Otherwise though, I've just played it enough to be pretty good at it.
I read a review on it once when the second one came out and it said something like "if you sucked at the first one, you'll suck at this one too."

Hardest thing I ever did in a game........I got two, one sorta lame, but the other for me was hard.
1: (the lame one) was playing DMC 3 and getting my ass whipped by Cerberus so much it unlocked easy mode. I fought and fought and fought, and my friends fought and fought, and we never beat that damn dog! He was brutal and I was just in such awe of how awesome the game is I got rofl-stomped over and over again. Three months later of putting the game down and playing Star Fox armada I came back and beat the stupid dog, no problems.....However his nunchucks of ice were so cool I forgave him. That was until i beat Agni and Rudra senseless, thought I was a pimp, and the next play through they played hacky sack with my skull....Oh and Beowolf was a dick! I got a strategy Guide just to see how to beat him...and it told me GOOD FUCKING LUCK!
The second one for me was an achievement: My favorite game of all time is always going to be Final Fantasy 9. I loved it when I first played it, because it was the first RPG my parents would let me play. I was so in love with the story that It is what led me to love writing such epic plot lines. That being said, Ozma....was...a....douche-fag. You couldn't touch him with physical attacks unless you found all the happy tree friends. Well, I didn't. So I had to fight this battle with Zidane blowing his load on gil to do 9999 damage, Took Vivi and Flared the shit out of him, freya to do cherry blossom, and amarant to cast Chakra fifty thousand times to keep my team MP up and throw the occasional item. Auto Life, Auto potions, the works! Still got beaten to shit......Yet I did it. I beat that spinning bastard and received....Nothing. And I was cool with that. I beat Ozma.
Rage quit in a game? Not hard. Fighting games with my roommates. I always get stomped and beaten to shit to the point that I really should expect it, but losing just sets my blood on fire when i see it's been fifty matches and i haven't won a single match. It hurts me to be such a little bitch about it but I just can't suffer that gross difference in fighting games because outside these two guys I can actually hold my own decently well. The two games in question is Super Street fighter 4 and Blazblue.

Hardest thing Artie has not done:
Draw a straight line in Okami on the wii.
Also, just remembered, one of the hardest thing I did:
Fight Barroth the first time with level appropriate gear and having NO IDEA it was a complete RAAAGGEEE machine. (Monster Hunter Tri).
Hardest thing I did not do:
Finish most RPGs that I play. For some reason or other, I just lose interest in some and not because of a boss fight or some difficult part. Just, up and leave for no good reason :/
a quick example, Rouge Galaxy.
Sigma is "roughly" the same game as black, with a few changes. I actually just bought sigma a week or so ago because i wanted my friend to try it on my ps3, since i haven't had black for a while. I read a review on it once when the second one came out and it said something like "if you sucked at the first one, you'll suck at this one too."I actually heard that the second one is slightly easier, but not by a whole lot. At any rate, Sigma just seemed to me so old school that I was shocked. Like, you die and you practically need to do the entire stage again. It's a stark contrast to most games today where there's a checkpoint behind every corner and your health magically recovers if you stand still long enough.
Anyways, one of the harder things I did. My sister and me recently did a handgun-only run in Resident Evil 5 on Veteran. Straight up too, no infinite ammo or other bullshit. Good times. We plan to do one-weapon run on Professional next, meaning you pick one weapon and you have to stick with it through the entire game. Yeah, I love that game. :D

RPG Hardest Thing- One Word: Xenogears, Miang. Seriously, fuck her.
Fighting Games: KoF2001, Last boss. Seriously, Fuck him...and NESTS in general, or MvC 3 with a Thor-Haggar-Hulk team on Very Hard. Try it sometime, not easy.
Can't think of anything else at the moment.

This is going to be tough since I'm a FPS junkie and Letho hates them.
Hardest Thing I Ever Did: Well I'm currently in the process of creating a really detailed Top-Down RPG for Little Big Planet 2. The hardest thing about it was mastering the logic, but I've got it down now. I've been making games/ levels ever since the Starcraft Broodwar days (used to make a shit ton of nice maps for that) and also creating TBC RPG's in the old school "RPG Maker 2" for ps2. I'm just a creation junkie too, I guess.
Hardest Thing I Never Have Done: Play Fallout NV or Fallout 3 and stick to the actual story line, or any of the Elder Scrolls games for that matter. I always drift off and do my own things and end up getting near level 30 (level 20 for Fallout three because I didn't get the expansions) before I actually go for story line stuff. By that time I've already cut into the main story in one way or another so I just say screw it.

So I'm not the only one that does this. I never beat Oblivion, actually - I'd usually just wander away and explore all the ruins and shit, and by the time I'd run out of stuff to explore I'd be bored with the game.
On topic, though, I'm not sure what the hardest thing I've ever done is. Beating the original Zelda in one sitting without dying was pretty tough. Beating Megaman X for the first time was hard. I'll think about this some more... I'm sure I've done something harder than this, but I can't remember right now.
The hardest thing I've never done was to beat a Roguelike. Look them up - they're dungeon crawlers with little in the way of graphics, and they tend to be mean, sadistic, unforgiving and twisted.
What's that hardest thing I EVER did in games?
Hmm, this one's a toughie. I recall playing many games but can't particularly recall anything I've found actually tough. Probably complete Wild ARMs with all the side quests done, facing Ragu Ragla (I think that was the boss' name), who can easily do up to 8000 points of damage in a single attack (that hits all three party members) and inflict roughly every single status change on the party. Suffice it to say the HP of only one party member will barely surpass 8k. The second hardest thing was probably defeat the Archmage and the Berserker on Breath of Fire 3, both secret monsters that only appear at one fixed location, and defeating the Rider in Breath of Fire 4, a monster that's bound to a single location, as well.
I guess a distant third would be a 100+ hits combo on BoF4 to meet the requirements of a certain master in the game.
What's the hardest thing I NEVER did?
Final Fantasy X & X-2. Never got all the celestial weapons upgraded in X nor did ever defeat all the dark Aeons. Never got the moogle dressphere on X-2 nor did I ever defeat Trema.

Ancient Domains of Mystery is one of the best roguelike. I've beaten it ONCE, out of almost eight years of playing. My brother has beaten it twice, and almost beat it one other time, and he's played it just as long but far more often. Other than that, I'm proud of beating Andross in Star Fox with two damaged wings. XD
I've never beaten the final MMX boss, but I got bored after trying a couple times. So, who knows? I could probably beat it if I really tried enough. The dude's a huge dick, lol.
I rather enjoy these threads.
The hardest thing I've ever done (in a video game) was beat Score Attack in Blazblue with one life. Fight every character in the game, including suped-up boss versions of the last three, and do it all with no continues. Well, you could "trick" the game into giving you continues, but I was for some reason compelled to do it the legit way. I celebrated by grabbing Jack In The Box (not much else open at three am in the morning).
Hardest thing I've never done? Be able to look past the crap that is the draw system in Final Fantasy Eight. The stupid thing is, in my humble opinion, the worst idea EVER. Kind of sad, because I like the story and the characters (minus Squall), but that so-called magic system destroys me every time.

This. Oh man, this. Tack this onto the hardest thing I've never done as well, please. The draw system in FF8 made me drop out of that game faster than any thread I've been in here for the past four years.

I hate that the current videogame industry is whoring the genre by throwing out the same game each year with a different title because there's a shitload of fuckers who keep paying 60$ for it. In all honesty, I can scarcely tell the difference between Call of Duties and Battlefields and Medal of Honors nowadays. And frankly, the lack of innovation and originality brings my piss to a boil. Now, I'm not necessarily saying that other genres are much better. All hack-and-slash action games nowadays play like Devil May Cry and most RPGs... Wait, what RPGs?! The current generation of consoles is piss poor when it comes to good RPGs mainly because... Ah, you know what, screw it. Now I'm getting off track with this little rant.
I do agree on the Fallout/Oblivion dealio. I did most wandering in Morrowind myself, but I scoured the Wasteland twice as well in both new Fallout games (New Vegas is much better, by the by). Never could get into Oblivion overly much. The idea that the monsters level up with you just pissed me off. But yeah, I think the main story isn't really that important in those. It's something you get to when you get bored doing everything else. :P

Admittedly, it's not the best system ever made and it can be rather hard to get into. But the fact of the matter is that you don't really have to draw. Maybe at the beginning when you have nothing to junction to your stats, but after you pick up a few levels and a few GF abilities, you can generally convert magic from items, circumventing the draw system completely.
Speaking of 8, the one of the hardest things I never did is get all the cards in the Card mini game. I got most of them (most importantly Gilgamesh for Holy Wars :D) and most character cards, but I don't think I managed to get all of them.

at least it was for me and my brother.
Alas... was one of the games I never finished because one day I just disappeared from it. I plan to go back eventually. xD
Thinking back on it, I think it was the changed between the guy with the machine gun and squall.... (and squall was super emo).

You know, I hate to go off topic, but I have to comment on Letho's rant. I'm huge on RPG's. I mean, I know it's hard to imagine for an Althanas writer to play a game for a good STORY......
Anyways, just a list of some upcoming RPG games that I'm looking forward to and don't expect to be let down:
Assassin's Creed: Revelations
Bioshock Infinite
Mass Effect 3
Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception
Final Fantasy XII-2
Final Fantasy XIV
Others that I'm not likely to play but might be good:
Batman: Arkham City
Dark Souls
Game that I'm likely most looking forward to that many people don't know about, but has the chance to either blow us away or totally crash and burn:
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning
Ken Rolston, the lead designer of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, acts as the game's executive designer. Additionally, noted fantasy author R.A. Salvatore created the game universe and lore, with Todd McFarlane, creator of Spawn, working on the artwork.

Uncharted is a third person shooter with platforming elements, if Infinite is anything like the first two RPG elements are there in traces, and AC, while it also has some RPG stuff, is pretty far from an RPG. Hell, as much as I love Mass Effect (and I do LOVE it, because I worship Bioware), even it's in that blurry ground between a shooter and an RPG. The first one had more RPG elements, but then they dumbed it down with 2.
Skyrim is going to be the shit, though. Also, one other FF to keep an eye on is Versus XIII. I haven't seen much of it, some snippets of gameplay and animations, but it looks better than XIII. Then again, XIII was a bit crappy, so that's not saying much. :P

Letho-
I can't argue with the fact that you don't need to use it to its fullest extent, seeing as how my friend got at least to Ultimcia's castle without worrying about it too much. However, it still is an idea that ticks me off. First, it's more of an item system than a magic system, but I found if you want to make your character's kick ass, you have to draw. Especially from bosses. Converting items never really gave me enough high-level magic to reach the level of wreck face I wanted.
I'm with you on FPS whoring though.

I can scarcely tell the difference between Call of Duties and Battlefields and Medal of Honors nowadays.
Simple way to tell: If it's ridiculous, it's CoD. If sniping is actually decent in it, it's Battlefield. If it's sitting on the store shelf unbought, it's Medal of Honor.
I could shotgun a window and it wouldn't be as broken as CoD: Black Ops.

Final Fantasy XIV has been out for a year now. :P It's... not very good. And this is coming from one of those people who liked XI. The game is free to play and I still don't want to play it. Classic example of a game that was released about a year (maybe even two years) before it was ready and killed off a lot of interest in the process of getting "up to speed." Hell, the only thing playing FFXIV does is make me want to play FFXI.
Versus XIII is, unfortunately, off the radar. It was announced like a billion years ago and it's not even appearing at the Tokyo Game Show this year! It seems that they're putting it on the backburner in favour of XIII-2, so we might be able to expect to see it sometime in 2012... maybe. I'm not sure how I feel about XIII-2 itself (though I actually kind of liked FFXIII; nowhere near one of my favourites, but I don't hate it with the same unabashed passion as most of the free world), but some of the stuff I've seen looks pretty cool.
Mass Effect 3 will be fantastic, of course, because BioWare can do no wrong. Speaking of whom, if you happen to be into MMOs at all, The Old Republic will be out some time next year and it looks like it's going to be fantastic. Basically they just have to live up to even half the potential this game has right now and it'll be great. In other words, don't fuck it up like S-E did with FFXIV. On a related note, Guild Wars 2 is shaping up to be pretty interesting too, and that one's free to play.
I was a bit disappointed about the setting of Skyrim at first (too similar to Solstheim from Bloodmoon, if you ask me; I would have much preferred to see the Summerset Isle or Elsweyr or something), but I still think it's going to be awesome.

Disgaea 4.
Tomb Raider.
SSX: Deadly Descents.
That is all.
Letho-
I can't argue with the fact that you don't need to use it to its fullest extent, seeing as how my friend got at least to Ultimcia's castle without worrying about it too much. However, it still is an idea that ticks me off. First, it's more of an item system than a magic system, but I found if you want to make your character's kick ass, you have to draw. Especially from bosses. Converting items never really gave me enough high-level magic to reach the level of wreck face I wanted.Well, if my memory serves me, you could get a shitload of items from cards, and cards could be won in the minigame or you could "Card" a monster if it's health was low enough. Which is a bit ridiculous in and off itself, but if you liked the card minigame (and I did), you usually wound up with plenty of items. It required perhaps a bit more time spent in the menus and flipping cards, but I personally didn't find it bothersome. But I guess it comes down to personal preference. And personally, I didn't think the materia system from VII was all that great.
Also, hey, no Squall bashing. He wields a gunblade which instantly makes him at least 10% less emo.

Why exactly couldn't we have an option to control others at least? It worked in XII.
Bioware FTW, naturally. Once The Old Republic comes out, a bunch of us from Althanas should form an Althanas clan or something. The force would be strong with us.
EDIT: For all you FPS lovers, you should check these (http://www.gametrailers.com/video/mission-1-combat-facts/710236) if you haven't already. I found some of the stuff quite interesting.

Let me say first and foremost that I totally, completely SUCK at video games. Doesn't stop me from trying to play them anyways.
The hardest thing I've ever done; finishing off the Archdemon in Dragon Age: Origins with a crap party. (I bit the dust a handful of times before I finally looked up a strategy guide.)
Hardest thing I've never done? Last more than half an hour playing Fatal Frame.
I'm late to this thread. That's what I get for getting on Althanas about once a month. :P
Greatest thing I've ever done: Beat Riven. Easily. That game took me months to figure out. I even got so frustrated with it at one point that I stopped playing it for at least a month or so. Maybe more. I finally came back and figured it out. I felt such a massive sense of accomplishment from that. It made the rest of the Myst games seem easy by comparison (except for IV. Still haven't finished that one.)
Also since you mentioned Celestial Weapons in FFX I could throw in that I did get at least 3 fully upgraded ones. Auron, Yuna, and Lulu. The thing was I eventually got into a habit of using those three for most battles, so naturally they got the most exp and leveled up the quickest, which made me want to use them more. This cycle continued until by the end of the game I literally COULD NOT use the other characters, and these three were dealing 9999 damage with almost every hit. I went out of my way to get all three of their weapons fully upgraded (which was really difficult) mainly so I could get the limit break. I also got all of the extra Aeons, too. Man, I loved that game.
Greatest thing I NEVER did.... hmm... that's a tough one. I guess since I mentioned Myst IV I could put that on here. That was one of a short list of games that I played until I got so frustrated I stopped and just never started again. That list would also include: Mass Effect, Bad Company 2, Bioshock, Stalker, and FFXIII. All games I WISH I could have finished, but didn't for one reason or another. I also never reached level 75 (max) in FFXI, despite playing off and on for years. That game just cost me way too much money for me to play it as casually as I did toward the end, lol.
As far as FPS's go, I have to admit I'm a CoD addict. I really don't give a crap about how "unrealistic" they are. I can even deal with stupid retards using noob tubes and last stand all the time. For me, CoD is my favorite FPS because it has the right "feel." It's really difficult to describe, but for me it's very important that FPS games (particularly multiplayer ones) have the right "feel" to them. I think it has a lot to do with the pace, but also the bullet mechanics and stuff like that. I prefer things pretty fast paced and simple. All the dudes I play online with convinced me to get Bad Company 2 and I HATED it. Worst video game purchase for me ever. I think I've played that game for a couple hours total for my 50 bux. Medal of Honor wasn't any better (probably should've been a clue to me that the multiplayer was made by the same people who made BC2, so it played EXACTLY the same) but at least I liked the single player in that one. But I have hundreds of hours logged on CoD4, MW2, and Black Ops. Call me a fan boy, but those games just scratch the itch. I'll be buying MW3. Don't get me wrong, I hate Activision as much as the next guy, I hate how they're trying to rip off everyone just because they can, and I fully realize that not a whole lot of "innovation" is going on, but anything I can get well over 100 hours of entertainment out of is worth my money.

Man, I loved that game.Rikku's Celestial is ridiculously easy to obtain. You need to do the Cactuar Village miniquest which is just a bunch of running around on Bikanel Island, chasing cactuars. And you don't even have to catch them, just try to, and you still get access to the crest. The ones I never got fully charged were Kimahri's (damn that butterflies mini-game), Lulu's, Tidus's and Wakka's. Wakka's can supposedly be obtained by playing a ridiculous amount of blitzball, and while I found blitzball fun for a while, it wasn't something I would waste hours and hours on. Because, let's face it, if Tidus gets the Jecht Shot and you manage to get Nimrook as a goalie, you're pretty much set and there's no challenge. :P

Also....Do you have CoD Black Ops? Damnit, we need an Althanas CoD BO clan... > : (
As far as Tidus goes...
If you noticed at the end opf the game, Tidus wakes up in water. Not to mention there are like, a bajillion scenes in that game that have Tidus with his face in water in some form or another. I honestly think Tidus is half Amphibian.
I've been in the middle of a Black Isle Renissance after I found gog.com. I played Baulder's Gate for awhile and finished Icewind Dale before just throwing my hands up in the air and walking away from Berilfrt or however you spell it.
Now I'm just handling the expansions. I won't be buying any other games for awhile. Too much of a distraction.
The hardest boss I ever had to face was Ulkair in Warhammer 40k: Chaos Rising. Last one. That pudgy bastard is bugged to hell and back. I spent 45 minutes trying to get to him. And then another 2 and a half hours whittling him down until he was at 20%. I decided to use an ability on one of my heroes to make the fight go a little faster. And guess what? His health resets.
All of it.
Common bug too, apparently.
Damnit...I just got Torchlight...
There goes at least a decade of my life...
Ditto. My wife is starting to get annoyed, but I've almost killed Ordrak! I'll have my life back soon.
I'm not going to get the sequel for another year, at least. And not because that's the soonest I'm allowed to get it...
I've only been playing it for an hour or two; the first boss was impressive, and I can see how the items and upgrade system will make it complicated and varied enough to keep me chugging through.
I'm an Alchemist OHKO'ing everything with my staff...they should not give him the combat skills he gets, syrsly.
I guess one of the hardest things I've done recently is get both the "Ensemble Cast" and the "Time Travel will Tell" Achievements in the Call of the Dead and Shangri-La maps of Black Ops Zombies. I'm trying to go for the "Big Bang Theory" achievement in Moon, but it seems like the farthest I can get is opening the pyramid and seeing Samantha.
As for the hardest thing I've never done...
...play the old game of Battletoads from start to finish. That game was hard.
@Sei: Nope. I keep all my shooters to PC. I'm one of those snobs that thinks that mouse and keyboard is simply better. :P Don't have a 360, but I do have a PS3 (that spends more time playing movies than games).
There's several sections in FFX where all the characters are swimming underwater for hours. I'm pretty sure there's just some sort of magic that allows them all to breathe under water.
@Letho: I know I at least attempted to get Kimari's because I remember that stupid butterfly game, but I don't think I ever actually got it. Like I said before, I didn't have much motivation to get the ones other than the 3 I played with the most. :P Also: I fucking hated blitzball. lol

Play mostly fighters now a days, but I can still remember a few glorious accomplishments...
1) Accomplished - Unlocking EVERYTHING in Golden Eye, EVERYTHING. All guns, unlimited ammo, even the ones you really don't need after all guns cheat like 2x RCP-90. Took me months but finally did it, and as a trivia tip, 2x RCP-90 was the last cheat I unlocked, long after I unlocked the debug mode you get for beating the game every level, on every difficulty.
2) Didn't accomplish - Beating Blazblue: Calamity Triggers Score Attack mode. I would get SO DAMN CLOSE. Whats even more frustrating is I have the game, and not the system, so I can't even go back and do it now. It was the last achievement I needed to get all 1000 points for that game! >.<

Don't fret. Those ones were easy for me, now NEVAN was a bitch for me. But anyway ... since I'm posting here ...
HARDEST thing I've done? I'd have to say Beat DMC 1,2,3 and 4 in a row on their hardest difficulties. Yes, in a row.
Hardest thing I've never done? I've never had to cheat till GTA 4 for the first play through. Any other time, fuck cheats.
Combat in the Witcher makes me want to cry. Also, the first girl.. Triss? .. I couldn't stop staring at her chest when she was talking. I didn't realize not having a bra made that much of a difference, but jesus talk about low cut.
If you're talking about the second Witcher, I broke my keyboard in half because of the combat. Literally. For the first quarter of the game I loathed the combat. Then I sort of got the hang of it. Then I loved it. I eventually found it quite rewarding and an improvement over the first game.

My problem isn't the clicking, its the fact that groups of enemies can pretty much just null combat completely. If you have 3-5 people on you and you can't run, you're going to either need to be really lucky or learn to love restarting from an earlier save file. I'm on the beast fight right now with Abigail. I stopped trying to keep her alive because she apparently can pull a.. jesus rabbit.. out of her hat now and come back anyway? Beast fries my ass every time. Attacks too fast to keep up while I'm doing random fucking twirls. Who would have thought that when getting mauled by a hellhound the appropriate response is to break into an impromptu ballet?!
Story's awesome. The combat makes me want to take a club to the head's of the developers and pound them into mush. How does this even pass quality testing at all?!

I agree with both of you. I started witcher 1 and wasn't motivated to push through. I got witcher 2 for free and have no motivation to even bother. All because of the combat system. It's so stiff...
UPDATE: Used a trick to get through this mess that I'm pretty sure will work on any 'mob' here. I wasted time coating my blade with spectre oil, went through the cinematic and got back to the fight with the Beast. Instead of trying to kill the hounds, I ran to the other side of the circle and lured him there. Stunned his ass with my stun sign and one shotted him.
Problem fucking solved.

Problem fucking solved. The Beast can be a pain in the ass. It's been a while since I've played the first Witcher, though, but I generally invest all my points in sword skills, especially the group stance. At the beginning you do little damage with it, but later on you can really handle larger crowds with it, with a little bit of switching to strong or fast when need be. I personally found the three-stance combat rather interesting.
Speaking of the Witcher, here's something to keep in mind if you thought the second one is any easier.

Sheez... listening to everyone talk about how the Witcher is hell and back with the controls makes me want to try...
Then again... as Artie will tell you, I'm apparently a glutton for punishment <_<... I don't think it's true, as I don't play ninja gaiden, like him.
Apparently Square-Enix has bought a domain for Final Fantasy XII-3 already, even though they claimed their full attention would be directed to VS13.
Speaking about the Witcher, though... First one recommended or should I jump directly into 2?
If that's true (about FF XIII-3), I must admit I find it rather annoying that they choose to further expand on one of the worst games in the franchise (don't get me wrong, XIII was still a good game, but it just doesn't measure up to other FFs) instead of focusing on something else, like Versus.
As for the Witcher, I'd say start with the first one. The story is very good and the combat can be interesting (but also, as mentioned before, sometimes irritating). But then again, the second won't treat you much better in the beginning, so it doesn't matter as far as that goes. The story of the second one almost directly follows the first one (though its a different story arc), so that's one more reason to play the first one. Also, you get much more ass in the first one. I'm talking loads of ass. :D

It's not surprising. Square-Enix is losing money hand-over-fist thanks to the failure (I think it's safe to call it that, now) of Final Fantasy XIV. The game was released a year ago, and as with a lot of MMORPGs players are given one free month to play. Then the complaints started rolling in. For all intents and purposes, the game was practically half-finished. When that free month ended, it would be like paying for a beta. So S-E gave us an extra free month... then another... and another... and then the vague promise that it will remain free-to-play until it "meets player expectations." The trouble is, the game's not designed around a free-to-play model like Guild Wars is, so they're basically absorbing all the associated costs that would normally be covered by player fees.
It's safer to release games that are cheaper to make (most of the development has already been done; the characters, models, textures, etc are already there) and likely to bring in easy sales. Whatever popular opinion may be about FFXIII, the thing sold like hotcakes. Their business plan seems to be all about bailing water out of the sinking boat faster than it can pour in, rather than fixing the hole in the first place. :p

After X-2, you -expected- them to make decent sequels to the respective worlds of each game? Hell, even Dirge of Cerebus was crap (though that PSP game with Zack was pretty decent), and that was capitalizing on their hugest f-ing cash cow.
Now, if they made a sequel to say, FF6, -that- shit would fly off shelves faster than anyone could produce em, and it'd be terribly terribly terribly hard to fuck up.
Unless they threw Cloud in for no gosh darned reason *coughcoughFFTcoughcough*

That game was the shit. X-2 was... well, I can't really say great, but it was still enjoyable if for no other reason, then because of the hot chicks. Crisis Core was pretty awesome, though. I basically bought a PSP solely for the purpose of playing that game. And didn't regret it.

It's the gaming populace that is to blame. They (or should I say "we") keep buying these recycled ideas, letting them get away with it. And they're not even great ideas. XIII was so damn linear that it lacked the very basics of the previous games, and that's to go around and explore the world when given the chance. You're never given that choice in XIII. And no, I don't count the part on the planet, where you basically just run around hunting some wildlife. And from what I saw in the trailers, XIII-2 won't be much different. The locations do seem a bit more complex, but putting a couple more hallways in a dungeon won't really fix the problem.
If they really want to throw some water out, they should just do a remake of VII. I'm personally not a big fan, but given the reverence with which a large number of FF fans look upon it, they would probably make some sick money out of it.
Also, you get much more ass in the first one. I'm talking loads of ass. :D

In all seriousness, I'd like to try the Nuzlocke Challenge in Pokemon Blue.
1 – You may only catch the first Pokémon encountered in each area. If it flees or faints, there are no second chances. (Don’t worry if this means you have to catch a Magikarp; Struggle is nature’s way of strengthening it.)
2 – If one of your Pokémon faints in battle, it is considered “dead” and must be released.

Thing is, I never had to grind my AI. I was fine just cvontrolling Meracle. It's not a matter of practicing with specific characters to make them untouchable, it's about finding the characters that are already untouchable, as well as the right skills they have in conjunction, which their best skills are usually the ones they start with.
I never stopped using Meracles claw-punch double skill setup.
I've never beaten Halo Reach on Legendary solo. I want that damn achievement so bad it makes my blood boil just thinking about it. I got up to stage 6 and said fuck it.
Hardest thing I've done was obtain every achievement in Tales of Vesperia. If you know anything about how much shit is in that game to accomplish that, you'll know it was a pain in the ass to do. Requires at least 2 1/2 playthroughs, and one is a 15 hour speed run.
