Blackguard

Come, sun's narrow fingers of light,
Come end the eve and turn the night;
And with thine claws thou beckons day
By scraping yon dark face away -
And like unto thine heatful nails
Rend from this soul all which it fails
For such a blackness lies therein
That no god above can cleanse its sin.

A man, a wife, a child, a crime;
A tale of brand which could freeze time
And upon that hour's frigid breath
Would breathe the callous sigh of death.
Rage, it was - oh, 'twas such a rage
That freed the sinbeast from its cage
To gnash its teeth and rear its maw
And upon innocent 'twould gnaw.

Come now, night, repent for the day
Give yon sinner some secret way -
A pilgrimage, a god to praise -
That could restore each of those days
Lost to the blackness in his heart
Where he dwells and cannot depart.
And 'til somehow his soul finds rest
These words his existence attest:

"Build me a pyre with demon fire,
Death is now my only desire.
I know the grave hungers for me,
Its toothless maw agape I see -
I'll feed everyone to its throne
So that in Hell I'm not alone."
