((Since "History" is the longest section— about two and a half pages by itself— I'm putting that dead last, if that's okay. Any suggestions on making it shorter would be highly appreciated.))

Name: Perchik Dayas (Typically goes by Dayas)
Age: 24, though he looks a little bit younger
Race: Altered Goldfinch/Human
Hair Color: Yellow w/ black crown
Eye Color: Black
Height: ~4 inches as Goldfinch; 5'6" as human
Weight: a few ounces as Goldfinch; 156 lbs as human
Occupation: Small-time thief

Personality: The human Dayas was a bit of a playboy, a trait which ultimately got him into trouble. He has not, however, learned his lesson in this respect, and so remains a bit of a skirt-chaser. He can be pretty charismatic when he tries, though he usually puts this charisma to use when he tries to filch something from a pretty girl. The goldfinch Dayas has so affectionately dubbed "Perchik" was a very chatty little bird, which often causes Dayas to become a little too chatty from time to time. Like most birds, Perchik was also rather flighty, which means poor Dayas has become rather easily startled as well, though not as easily startled as your typical bird.

Dayas also doesn't appear to take himself too seriously, nor does he seem to take anything else around him seriously. He jokes around a lot, and is almost constantly smiling, making it difficult to tell what he's actually thinking. His tune seems to change when the closest thing he's ever had to a girlfriend shows up. It's not that he gets violent or anything... it's just that he seems hell-bent on avoiding her.

Appearance: Dayas is relatively lean and scrawny for someone around his mid-twenties, often giving him the appearance of someone slightly younger. He has olive-colored skin and once had all-black neck-length hair, though now only the crown of his head is black while the rest is a rather brilliant yellow. His eyes were once dark brown, but have darkened to black. He wears a dark blue long-sleeved tunic, dark leather pants, leather boots, and a beigish-brown cloak (to help hide his brilliant yellow hair when he needs to). He keeps his dagger tucked away in his boot if he ever finds he needs to use it.

Skills:
Goldfinch Form: When Dayas gets spooked, he has a random 25%* chance of temporarily turning into a goldfinch for 1-3 posts*. He hopes to one day gain control of this damn ability, since it might actually come in handy someday, but for now, he has absolutely no control over it.
*I plan on determining these using a dice-rolling program (or actual dice, if I have them available).

Weapon Skill (Dagger): He can handle a dagger, but due to lack of practice he's not terribly good with it. If he got into a fight, he'd have to rely mostly on getting the drop on an opponent and finishing him off quickly; he's not good at hand-to-hand combat at all.

Equipment: Small iron dagger, anything he's recently filched. ...Doesn't really have a whole lot of possessions.

History: "Dayas" isn't actually his real name so much as an alias he adopted once everything was said and done. He has no idea who his birth parents were, and, frankly, since they left him at an orphanage practically as soon as he was born, he doesn't really care to know. He spent the first nine years of his life at the orphanage, until he was adopted by a merchant and his wife.

This was Dayas's first actual family, but, unfortunately, it left much to be desired. His father expected too much of him all at once, and while this meant he ended up with a decent education, it led to a very strained relationship with his adoptive father almost right off the bat. His adoptive mother, although she claimed to love him, was highly selfish and manipulative. Dayas suspected she married the merchant more because he could potentially bring her a lot of money than out of any feelings of love she claimed to have. As soon as he reached the age of seventeen, Dayas decided to strike out on his own; he ran away from home and never once came back.

Dayas made his way to the city, where he was taken under the wing of a small-time thief and learned the "tricks of the trade," as it were. He was taught to use a dagger, though he decided that if pursuing the target could potentially result in him having to use it, then it probably wasn't worth it. He turned his attention to the ladies, who were less likely to cause him to use force to get what he wanted from them (meaning their valuables, not their "maiden-heads"). The thief who took him in was none too thrilled with the way he "limited" his options, but respected his decision to target only particular ladies. They parted ways on peaceable terms once Dayas began to make a name for himself (albeit more as a local nuisance than as anything particularly noteworthy). Dayas continued to stalk unwary females and filch valuables from them undetected, until he met the one girl who truly took notice of him.

Her name was Paomé, and at first glance, she seemed like an easy target. She had black hair, pale skin, and big, innocent blue eyes, even though she wore all black: a black dress with lacy frills, black boots... she even wore black eyeliner and lipstick. When he first met her, he was already 22, while she couldn't have been more than 18 at the very most. She seemed somewhat well-off, and Dayas knew it would be easy to sweep her off her feet, take whatever valuables she had, and be off.

When he actually approached the girl, however, he found it considerably harder to pull off than he had thought. She was, to say the least, eccentric. Almost as soon as she saw him approach her, she started looking around as if she was debating whether to stay and let him approach, or run off and see if he actually was approaching her, and not some girl standing next to her. He was standing before her before she could decide however, and once she realized it, she looked down and avoided eye contact. After a moment of awkward silence, she blurted out, "I hope you're not just going to ask me if I've seen your girlfriend or something, because that's what all the guys who walk up to me seem to ask."

This marked the beginning of a very strange relationship. Dayas realized early on that Paomé was entirely smitten with him, and try as he might to take advantage of that, she proved to be too unpredictable for any of his plans to work out. Eventually, he decided to simply string her along and see where things led. He found out a lot about her; she was, in fact, 18 when they met, she was interested in birds and biology, she came from a pretty well-off merchant family that eventually couldn't stand her and turned her out, she read a lot, and she admitted to dabbling a little in magic, though she refused to let on what kind. In return, Dayas made up a story about himself that included some truths: he was abandoned at an orphanage as an infant and taken in by a merchant and his wife; he ran away at the age of seventeen; and from there he made up a story about travelling with pirates on the seven seas for a while. Now, as naïve as Paomé was, she wasn't that dim; she believed everything except for the pirate stuff, but liked to hear his stories nonetheless. The more they spent time together and talked, the closer he felt to her, until, somewhere down the line, he suspected he fell in love with her. He still had to make a living, however, and so he continued his usual flirting/thieving techniques to make money. He kept these habits a secret from Paomé, but some secrets are hard to keep forever.

One day, he was chatting up another pretty girl at the bar, and once he had her full attention on him, he leaned in and got ready to do a little sleight-of-hand involving her purse. Just as he got his hands on what he wanted, who did he spot out of the corner of his eye, much to his surprise and horror? A very, very disappointed Paomé. He broke off what he was doing with the other girl suddenly, and ran out after the crying girl.

He managed to catch up with her in a secluded spot, and attempted to explain what he was doing, but found himself unable to do so. He suddenly realized that he had no explanation other than the truth: that he was a thief who targeted women. As he tried to find a better way to explain himself, Paomé chewed him out for his infidelity, demanding not only an explanation, but also demanding whether her love for him meant anything at all. He answered the latter question truthfully— that it did mean something to him— but Paomé was too worked up to believe him. They got into an argument that spiralled out of control, until, suddenly, Dayas found out the hard way what type of magic Paomé dabbled in.

Paomé fired a beam of concentrated necromantic magic at him, and at such a short range, it ended up ripping right through his midsection and killed him instantly. Panicked, Paomé tried desperately to rouse him, and once she realized what she had done, she sat down and tried to think about how to solve this problem. She decided that, since she was a necromancer, why didn't she just do what she did best and revive him the necromantic way? She then realized that, as much as she didn't want a cheating boyfriend, she'd rather not have a cheating boyfriend that also smelled of rotting flesh. So, she began thinking: What if she used another life force to sort of "jump start" Dayas?

Enter the hapless goldfinch known as Perchik. Paomé has a thing for goldfinches, so outside of the tower she has claimed as her own, she has a goldfinch feeder set up. Perchik happened to be one of the goldfinches that visited it regularly, and this time, he happened to visit it at the wrong time. He wasn't really afraid of Paomé; she'd stood outside and watched the goldfinches, even fed them right out of her hand from time to time, that they didn't really see her as a threat. So when she came out and held out a handful of seeds to the goldfinches, Perchik didn't think anything of it and went right up to her. As he fed, however, Paomé cast a sleep spell over him and knocked him right out. She took the unconscious goldfinch inside, and, using an elaborate, half-baked ritual she came up with right on the spot, used the poor goldfinch's abundant life force to revive the man she loved.

When Dayas finally regained consciousness, he was temporarily in Perchik's mindset. So, naturally, when he found himself in such a weird place, he freaked out and tried to fly away... except he didn't have wings. As Dayas the human's mind slowly began to resurface, Paomé entered the room and greeted him ecstatically, happy that her experiment had worked. Confused, Dayas asked her what had happened, and she explained everything: the fight, her inadvertent killing, and her experiment with the goldfinch. Needless to say, Dayas was more than a little freaked out. They had another little argument that ended, this time, with Dayas running out of her tower and out of her life. Dayas changed his name to his current alias, "Perchik Dayas," and fled as far away from Paomé as he possibly could.

Now, he honestly doesn't know what to do with himself.
