View Full Version : What Television are You Excited For?
Forgive me if I've missed a more recent version of this thread, but three pages back into The Flying Stone Tavern revealed nothing and I don't care enough to look back further.
I'm interested in what Althanas is excited to watch; both upcoming and airing now. My examples would be, in truthful order:
1.) Sherlock (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sherlock_%28TV_series%29) - Starring Benedict Cumberbatch (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1212722/) as Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0293509/) as Dr. Watson, this modern retelling of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's classics is a side-project of Doctor Who's lead writer, Steven Moffat (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0595590/). I can say, without a doubt, that Moffat's Holmes is my favorite version of the character; especially some of the throwaway lines that seem to come write from the Eleventh Doctor. As of now, there are only three episodes, roughly an hour and a half in length each. But the new season should be coming out early next year, and the cliffhanger ending from the last guarantees I'll be tuning in.
2.) Game of Thrones - I'm not going to include a hyperlink for this one because I've already seen a thread discussing it. The first season was nearly perfect in pacing, acting, and storytelling, and I cannot wait for April 2012 to get here.
EDIT: 3.) Archer - A three-part story arc for Archer just ended, but all it was leave me wanting more of my favorite secret agent.
Aside from those two, seemingly far off, series, I'm getting my weekly dose of entertainment from QI's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QI) series I (and holding out for more David Mitchell (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0593267/) appearances) and Nevermind the Buzzcocks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nevermind_the_buzzcocks) (because Phil Jupitus and Noel Fielding make trash T.V. watchable.)
Good lord, are you from the U.K Morus?
If you call Massachusetts the UK.
I've watched Hell on Wheels and I enjoyed it immensely. I'm also really liking the way American Horror Story is turning out as well.
I'm afraid not, Duffy. But I am an Anglophile and I have access to the internet (http://www.youtube.com/user/NickFromFulham), so British T.V. is easier to watch than network T.V. here.
Vigil, how has American Horror Story been turning out? Is it what you expected?
EDIT: Duffy, maybe you'll know more about this than I've been able to find out; is "That Mitchell and Webb Look" in production for a fifth series?
You don't often see Americans speaking so fondly of U.K TV, or for that matter, with words featuring more than 3 syllables.
Just thought I'd ask :p.

Its incredible. Most of the cast for AHS is in fact dead. There are so many subplots and moving pieces and parts to this story that its really hard to figure out who my favorite character is. All the ghosts of people who live in the house have unique personalities, interesting backgrounds, etc. and they interact with the main characters while also being tangible. Its the first time I've ever really seen a show where the ghosts are actually almost like people and the living doesn't know the difference.
Its been like 5 episodes and I've already seen rape, multiple different kinds of murder, school shootings, infancide, botched hysterectomies, and the creepiest/most frightening killer in a full leather S&M outfit ever.
Overall, A+.

Its rare that I see somebody from the UK talk about American televison. Oh-Ho! DIFFERENT!

My incredible dislike of television aside, I heard talk that Showtime is adapting the comic series Chew for the small screen, and I'm incredibly curious as to how that will pan out.

That's interesting, to say the least. As I've told you before, the promos I saw for the show were really well made so it sparked a bit of interest in me, I'll have to check it out soon.

Sei, I'm curious. Is it because you have children that you watch iCarly, and because you're married you watch Secret Life of the American Teenager and Glee?
Also, are you excited for the next series of Doctor Who? It seemed like you were disappointed by series six's end.
EDIT: If you enjoy Doctor Who, I implore you to check out Sherlock.

It's nice to have an influx of comic-inspired television content on network t.v. now. I haven't read Chew, but the premise sounds pretty intense and most intriguing.
Have you watched any of The Walking Dead? If so, what did you think about the deviation from the comic's storyline? I feel comics, like books, are such a vastly different medium to television that storyline changes are bound to occur.

Its not that I was disappointed by it, by any means. The season finale just left me hanging on a question regarding the regenerations of the Doctor. If I had any complaints, they'd be about a lack of Cyba-men or a lack of The Master (Don't pretend like he won't come back).
Also, no, my kids are 4 and 2, not old enough to truly enjoy iCarly yet. Glee is of my own choosing, but I will admit that I started watching Secret Life due to the wife, but got hooked from the one-liners delivered between Amy's dad and almost any cast member he's up against.
Also, Molly Ringwald.

Of course The Master will return; he's The Doctor's foil after all, and they've been milking that dynamic for years. While I've loved John Simm's Master in all his cracked glory, I sincerely hope that he regenerates before, during, or right after his next appearance. It's my wish that they return to his roots as a more conventional villain (ala Roger Delgado, Peter Pratt, etc.) from the classic series; and while I loved Utopia/The Sound of Drums/The Last of the Time Lords, I really wish I could have seen more of Professor Yana (Derek Jacobi).

I don't really mind it when changes have to be made in the plot of a story when it shifts from one medium to the next. Dexter is a great example of this. Television has a far more restrictive storytelling format than comics, and it's inevitable for changes to be made in order to fit the story within its constraints.
I've got Season 1 of The Walking Dead sitting on my TV stand, still in its shrink wrap. I'll get to it eventually. As long as the prison and The Governor make their appearance on the small screen, let them make whatever changes they want.
You should pick up the trade paperbacks for Chew. It's a really funny and oddball series. You'd probably like it. Even though I know absolutely nothing about your tastes.

I'm stocked for the final season of Chuck. So far so good.
