History:

Level Zero: Blank remains an enigma to the Troupe for his history is nothing more than supposition, guesswork and potluck. He arrived in the city thirteen years ago as a young boy and swiftly found himself in the troupe’s field of view after he began ‘blinking’ in and out of existence, which ultimately brought him to the attention of several groups of thieves. His progression into a member of the troupe and the like minded nature of its members as orphans or runaways was as natural as the sun rising, and he has remained there ever since.

His early years saw him learning the basics of fighting, stealing and movement, and he was taught to understand at least the creative cover of the Tantalum despite the younger and more glamorous Ruby trying to get Blank to talk. He swiftly rose to infamy for being the first individual that survived a raid on the Scourge’s headquarters, and retains the trophy of that triumph today; both the Rheilhand, and the scar and loss of an eye that pangs with regret and remorse each morning. At the same time, this deed allowed Blank to be invited and press ganged into the Scourge’s ranks, which he refused at first until later pressured.

Outraged that Blank had attracted so much attention, Ruby forced his hand into joining the Scourge and directing them away from the troupe – a fact which has remained and ensures the two factions stay well clear of one another for the time being. When Ruby stepped down as Tantalum and the more youthful and reckless Duffy emerged, Blank returned to the troupe to revel in the adventure he could not get in the economical drudgery of the Scourge – whilst respected, he did not want to remain a caravan guard or lackey for too long.

Recently, in the war with Lucian and the conflict that broils between the surfaces on all fronts, Blank spoke for the first time thoughts of his own. Whilst each blade the Tantalum can get to aid its cause is a mighty boon indeed, Duffy is worried that Blank’s silence is a telling sign of an inference or trap set by Lucian long before any of them realised. If such a man can kill his loved ones, and ruin Ruby’s life at the age of 12, then what nuggets of joy and terror has he instilled in the other members of the Troupe – what hand benign and fearful symmetry waits to be revealed in the silence between the words of the silent swordsman?

Level One: Blank’s movements within the Scourge have brought to light a plot against the Silent Swordsman. The Thieves’ Guild master, the enigmatic and mysterious Magnarion is seemingly playing off the Scourge and the Guild to some unseen end. Blank has resisted attempts on his life, and has so far not succumbed to the confusion, doing away with his rivals in love and war with efficient and deadly speed. Unbeknownst to him Magnarion is his father, come back to haunt him for a deed he cannot remember and a time he cannot speak of.

Arden Janelle carries with him a great burden, and although in his battle with his new found enemy he has slowly learnt to use his curse as a boon, to bid his enemies hold their tongue in earnest lest they speak ill of the dead, it will not be long before the Silent Swordsman’s fight with the Thieves’’ Guild brings time full circle. As Van Occupanther rises to power he must decide between the troupe and his Legacy.

Level Two: Blank successfully uncovered some of the mystery of Magnarion's treachery, and took over the Thieves' Guild from his cowardly brother, unleashing the curse on him and allowing him speech once more.

Unknowingly, the Thieves' Guild works against the Tantalum and the Scourge against the Thieves' Guild despite Blank's best efforts to avert all-out war. In a bit to bring democracy and honour to both, he has begun to enlist the aid of a strange and enigmatic individual to become his protégée, should he be betrayed again. In Blood and Calamity, he has played his own hand, and hopes to unify the Guild and the Scourge in the days following Lucian's death, for the troupe and its machinations are most important of all.

In his mind, Blood Magic grows stronger, and his blades must be reborn in order for him to control his new found gifts. He sets off to Akashima in a bid to find his mother, and to find himself in the madness that threatens to consume him if he is not careful...

Level Three: Blank found his mother in the Howling Ziggurat, an ancient resting ground for Janelle Clan family members high in the Comb Mountains in Akashima. Driven into rage at his mother's sacrifice to will him to live with the horror of his curse, and the thirst that rose in him, he travelled to the Citadel to prepare his body for the coming war with the Dark Bard Lucian Lahore.

In the aftermath of the conflict, after witnessing the return of Little Miss Monocle and his memories of a former life as a Spirit Warder, Blank vowed to return to Akashima to re-unite the warring clans and stand fast against a new enemy that whispered in the dark. He recruited Ace Lawrence, and returned the Thieves' Guild to peace as he returned back to the home and the blade, and in turn, brought Lawrence to an Oath to be the new Van.

He ventured to Akashima with Lillith and Ruby to temper the first awakening of the Greater Oni called the Jurugumo, and now travels back along the coast to continue what his ancestors started a thousand years ago...smite the spirit world itself. If he can control the thirst and his rage, then no oni can stand in his way...if he cannot, then his blood and guts will hang from the walls of Capitol City, or his mind shall be crushed by the Great Oni themselves.

Level Four: Drawing the blood of the Greater Oni’s Ronin in the village of Hallow, (http://www.althanas.com/world/showthread.php?22856-Saiketsu-(Closed)&highlight=) Blank and Lillith encounter a lone bastion of resistance in the soul of the chieftain, Ju. He shows them a scroll that will gain them passage into the political world of Capitol City and in turn, get them to the first known vessel of the Komodo. Unable to reforge his blade on Genii’s forge, Arden and Lillith flee the village after Arden’s resurrection, his possession growing stronger and dragging him into hell and back.

With Lillith in the south, Arden encounters an unexpected Komodo, who reveals to the swordsman that he is closer to reviving than expected. Fighting the Ryuu No Shinzou (http://www.althanas.com/world/showthread.php?23214-Ryuu-No-Shinzou-(Closed)&highlight=) within, Arden escapes only because the Dragon wishes to see him rise to loftier heights so that when they finally fight, it is a worthy martial challenge.

Arden returns to Scara Brae to reforge the Rheilhand into Kerria, the Hero Lao Sheng’s spirit blade. With Drago’s blood (http://www.althanas.com/world/showthread.php?23413-In-Death-s-Image-Remade-(Closed)&highlight=in+death%27s+image+remade), the Dragon Blade is reformed. There, he borrows Leopold’s gun to assassinate one of the Knights Provost (http://www.althanas.com/world/showthread.php?23601-A-Fake-Empire-Falling-(Closed)&highlight=A+Fake+Empire+Falling), pushing the Scourge into direct congestion with the paladins. With the Thieves’ Guild no longer under his control (http://www.althanas.com/world/showthread.php?22810-The-Oath-Of-Van-Lawrence-(Closed)&highlight=), he plants the blame there, and civil war looms in the criminal underworld of the island. Ready to fight once more, he returns to Akashima to the roar of drums and the descent of the Crane from the north. War is come, and he and his sister are all that stands between death and life.

Personality: Blank is a very kind but solemn creature. He seldom smiles, but is otherwise an excellent father figure for the younger troupe members and is altruistic to their cause to an extreme beyond Duffy’s arrogance or Ruby’s matriarchal instincts. He is hot headed, but at the same time he always on the level in combat, able to internalise his troubles and pain back into the intimidation and riling of his opponent’s mettle. Blank’s personality might be an enigma to many, and come across as dark and foreboding, if not mythical, but he is ultimately a mortal man with mortal emotions, loves and lusts.

Skills:

• Coercion: Above Average
• Escapology: Above Average
• Knowledge (Criminal): Adept
• Knowledge (Scara Brae): Adept
• Knowledge (Akashima - I Ching): Adept
• Swordplay (Single Handed Bladed Weapons): Master
• Resistance to Interrogation: Adept
• Intimidation: Above Average

Abilities:

The Null Void Alignment: The Null Void Alignment is a tri-partite ability of chronometric origin and it is Blank’s manifestation of The Aria; much like Duffy’s persona realisation or Ruby and Lilith’s spell-singing. With it he can do something anathema to a performer, he can erase the very thing the troupe spurns to create; rewriting history as it were through sheer silence itself.

• Erase: Legendary strength in terms of determining spell level and resistances of target or counter magic. Blank can erase writing of a non-magical origin at the rate of two square feet per concerted effort; which gives considerable speed to editing one word or deleting a line. It is a draining process, regardless of his physical condition. Regardless of progression he will never be able to erase text written in magical blood or etched and enchanted into metal or stone.

• Blink: Blank can manipulate his own chronotrons quite simply Blink himself from existence, flittering between the reality that is Althanas and the alternative realm of The Aria for precisely two seconds. He will re-appear in exactly the same place if activated when stationary, and continue on exactly the same momentum and trajectory should he have been moving when activated. The practical uses of this are self-defence, to avoid, if given warning a projectile or moving object, or to dash through an opponent to attack from behind; it takes considerable focus to activate at present and can be used either three times when stationary, or twice when moving per thread. When he disappears and re-appears, snippets of text, song or noises darker still will emerge, flying out from the heart of creativity itself.

• Silence: Blank can conjure a sphere of silence that negates all sound within 5ft of its epicentre, up to a distance of twenty feet from his body. This lasts for the duration of up to two posts. This only prevents noise from being heard, and does not prevent breathing or cause asphyxia. It can be used twice per thread, but whilst it is ‘active,’ Blank cannot draw on any of the other of The Aria abilities.

Hardy Reflexes: He is an agile fighter capable of running, climbing and acrobatics, though nothing extraordinary. In combat his speed is equivalent to 2X that of a normal human male skilled in swordsmanship, but his injuries mean he cannot ever aim accurately and is prone to misjudging distances so the more he uses, it the more he is likely to fall. His agility and constant conflict also afford him X1.5 resistance to physical blows, represented as a stamina bonus.

Blood Arcana: Blank is slowly rediscovering the abilities sealed away by his jealous father. He can wield the ancient variation of Spirit Warder Arts known as Blood Arcana, which draws on magic contained within the life force found in most living things. At present, he is still very much a novice, but has started to remember the basic rituals that allow him to use blood obtained and to bind its effects to weaponry, and to manifest physical amendments to his form.

• Blood Greed: Blank, if he is not careful, will grow hungrier for blood shed the more recklessly he uses Blood Arcana. Whenever he is fighting, and with each kill he makes in succession, his front canines elongate, and his rage can become overbearing, and his control can break as he becomes nothing more than a savage, bloodthirsty creature, who will not stop until his hunger is sated (descriptive ability until developed with I Ching learning in Ryuu No Shinzou and His Inner Fire, His Outer Flame.

• Blood Wing: At will, Blank can summon wings of blood from his shoulders by spending spilt blood. The blood may be from an injury anywhere on his body, but it must be an injury on his body. When a wing is conjured, Arden’s resistance to magic is increased by 0.25%. Each wing takes one post to conjure, and thus, he can amass a X0.5% resistance in total. The wings can be attacked as if they were real appendages.

• Blood Song: At a below average strength, Blank can attempt to utilise the I Ching (http://www.ichingonline.net/about.php) to command or control another individual under strict conditions. Strong willed opponents will be all but immune to these attempts. Blank must be able to draw the I Ching hexagram in the air with a free hand, unrestrained, in order to conjure the power. He must also be able to speak the appropriate empowerment verse. Before he can use Blood Song on another, Kerria must have tasted their blood. There are fifty hexagrams in all, and though he could theoretically apply them with the blood song, he can only apply two at present in a battle situation.

Lin (http://deoxy.org/iching/19) - Approach; Good approaches the superior person.

Another affected by Lin is compelled, if of a good, honest nature to draw close to Arden in conflict. He will advance as quickly as possible, though may restrain caution the stronger the will.

Li (http://deoxy.org/iching)- The Clinging, Fire; Cling to the power of higher truth.

Upon striking the glowing I Ching mid-air with his blade, the target become racked by a burning, clinging sensation. It is as if he is covered in flame that erupts from his very soul. The more passionate, angry and zealous the target, the greater the pain. It lasts for one post, and leaves no physical after effects.

• Blood Bond: Any blood drawn with Kerria collects in the vial built into the handle. Blank can imbue his own weapons with that blood, and bind an imprint of the owner’s soul into his sword. This will allow the blade to deliver a self-correcting strike to the heart of anyone whose blood is on them, as long as they are newly dead, within an hour, and their injuries not too great for the magic to overcome. This resurrection has severe limitations, the greatest of which is the person's consent to conduct the ritual to begin with, as anyone that steps into hell and returns drenched in sacrifice, can never do so unscathed.

Equipment: Blank possesses the same base resources as all members of the Tantalum in the form of the Prima Vista, the stage house hideout of the troupe in the province of Seles in Scara Brae herself. Such a resource gives him access to basic foodstuffs, a place to rest and recuperate and of course, access to the Tantalum Menagerie, a venerable collection of costumes, props and written works which all the members can draw upon in their pursuit of the dramaturgical lifestyle. Such resources come at the cost of 10% of all gold Blank earns in threads of any description, regardless as to wherever or not such resources were drawn upon.

The Trapping of Tigers: (http://www.althanas.com/world/showthread.php?23336-Why-Do-I-ALWAYS-Have-To-Go-Get-The-Shopping) Lightweight Mithril half-plate and red garments. It has ornate and regal etchings and a design as old as Akashima herself. The suit has two clawed gauntlets, which slash as strong as iron due to their small size and placement on the hands. They cause wounds that are hard to heal and caus excessive blood flow.

Kerria, the Rose: (http://www.althanas.com/world/showthread.php?23707-To-Forge-amp-To-Farrow&highlight=to+forge+and)Kerria is a red hilted blade, forged with steel, bound in blood and brought to semi-sentient life through blood arcana. It is as strong as mithril, biting just the same, even though it is a steel ore. It has a small loop on the butt of the pommel to attach a kunai and chain, and a polished appearance as if it were eternally clean. Whenever it is bloodied in battle, the blood on the blade draws into the hilt as if the sword were gorging itself on the life essence. Such blood channels into the glass rod in the pommel, and provides the wielder with one charge for use in casting blood magic spells per dedicated, effective strike. People wounded by the blade find themselves suspiciously hurt and bleeding much more than they should be if the sword has already tasted the target's blood (the sword can be anointed if blood is acquired prior to use).
The sword itself is unbreakable or non-tarnish able by non-magical means - spells, other magic weapons and items with magical properties, such as dragon scale, will still effect it very much as if it were mundane steel. It is a very conductive material, and can be further enchanted and blessed and given powers through blood magic, though such enchantments must come from blood magic itself.

Notes:

I have removed the previous combat augmenting ability, 'Hunger of the Oni', and replaced it with a descriptive ability with no affect in battle. I will give it a modifer/bonus after exploring it in His Inner Fire, His Outer Flame (http://www.althanas.com/world/showthread.php?23995-His-Inner-Fire-His-Outer-Flame-(Closed)&highlight=).

Combat ability was increased from History noted battle, and Almost Easy.

I am currently awaiting the addition of the remaining Xp to level, and have XP pending from a judgement for Fake Empire Falling, and thus am 'technically' level four.

I do not intend to abuse the I Ching, in quests, he can attempt to find new affects using the hexagrams, but for battle purposes, I have listed the ones he can use on other PC's without their 'permission'.
