The sun was fading in the distance and night was sinking its claws into the world. Essex was sitting a few feet away from the path that he had been traveling, but now he was resting. His head was throbbing and every time he stood up his eyes would get blurring and black would slowly try to overtake him.

Reaching into his pocket he pulled out a small glass orb with a dark red liquid inside it. He swished the liquid inside it and then he popped the cork. He took a deep breath and took in the beautiful scent of what was inside of the bottle. He slowly took a sip of the glass orb and savored the taste. Almost instantly his face took on more color and he seemed to brighten up. The pain in his body slowly eased and his eye sight once again as sharp as ever. There was still a series of pains and spasms that racked his body, but he was now able to ignore them a little easier than before.

Over the next few minutes the glass orb was slowly emptied and Essex grew stronger and better. As he finished off the last drops he placed the glass orb back into one of the many pockets that were hidden in his cloak and he whispered under his breath, “still not as good as from the source.”

Shaking his head at the thought he grimaced and began to stand up; pushing his weight up with that magical staff that was in his hand. Before he could begin to walk down the trail again he stopped. He stopped because something had landed on his ears. He cocked his head and listened intently and he was sure that there was someone walking down the pathway. Leaning against a tree he waited to see who the traveler was.

Bayne walked down the path looking at his map with what little light could be given. He had been lost for awhile, trying to find a city was difficult, everytime he got close he ended up taking a wrong turn somewhere. Bayne stopped and sighed, and then proceded to incinerate his map with white fire out of irritation. He began walking down the path hopeing that someone would be able to tell him where on earth he was. Just then a scent filled the air, the smell of blood, it wasn't fresh though, Bayne pulled out his sacred sword Angel Heart which glew white and gold in the black preparing for some sort of evil creature.

Essex watched as the large sword that looked angelic was pulled from its sheath. The dark of night was still heavy on the land but the sword gave off a light of its own. He could sense something from this individual but it wasn’t evil, though he could be dangerous Essex was worried about him.

Before Essex could step out and make himself known there was a shriek going through the air. There was a thud on a tree that stood between Essex and the other traveler; the thud came from a black arrow with a black crow arrow on the end of it. A cackle came from within the trees and it sounded like a group of highwaymen. Glancing at the arrow Essex saw that it looked like a goblin arrow.

Odd thought Essex, highwaymen with goblin arrows or highwaymen working with goblins. Either way it was very odd seeming. Another arrow cut into the trees and not watching what the stranger with the sword was doing Essex dove from the trees towards where the arrow was coming from. There in the trees were five people. Three were human, one burly axe wielding man, two leaner men, one with a rapier and one with a bow and arrow. Two others that were there were goblins. One goblin was small and lean with green skin and red eyes. The other was larger and had sickly yellow skin with red eyes.

Essex threw three throwing daggers towards the archers and goblins that were trying to attack either him or the stranger with the sword. The daggers stabbed into the goblins but didn’t cause them really any damage for their skin was thicker, but then the dagger that hit one of the men did hurt him. The man took the knife in his chest and it severed part of his spinal cord. This attack from Essex took the group down to four. Now all I have to do is get the rest thought Essex to himself, the blood in the air caused his hunger to rise and to enhance his predator nature.

Bayne walked forward and the sound of an arrow hitting a tree stopped him in his tracks, another passed by his right leg. He took cover behind the nearest tree to avoid the volley of arrows, highway men probably Bayne thought. Bayne began dodging between trees going deeper into the woods, but began to notice less and less arrows coming, he then heard the sound of fighting. He looked passed a large oak and saw a hooded man fighting two goblins, and three men, one was taken down by a throwing knife. Bayne decided to help since he noticed the goblins where pretty much unfazed from the man’s blows. Bayne ran from the trees and with his sword chopped straight down on a goblin, cutting it clear in two. Bayne then shot a white fire ball at the red eyed man, he was hurt but he still stood. Bayne was a bit surprised at the resilience of the man, but didn’t think much of it, and backed up towards the hooded man, with his sword raised, ready to fight the rest of the group with the man.
