The sun was fading in the distance and night was sinking its claws into the world. Essex was sitting a few feet away from the path that he had been traveling, but now he was resting. His head was throbbing and every time he stood up his eyes would get blurring and black would slowly try to overtake him.
Reaching into his pocket he pulled out a small glass orb with a dark red liquid inside it. He swished the liquid inside it and then he popped the cork. He took a deep breath and took in the beautiful scent of what was inside of the bottle. He slowly took a sip of the glass orb and savored the taste. Almost instantly his face took on more color and he seemed to brighten up. The pain in his body slowly eased and his eye sight once again as sharp as ever. There was still a series of pains and spasms that racked his body, but he was now able to ignore them a little easier than before.
Over the next few minutes the glass orb was slowly emptied and Essex grew stronger and better. As he finished off the last drops he placed the glass orb back into one of the many pockets that were hidden in his cloak and he whispered under his breath, “still not as good as from the source.”
Shaking his head at the thought he grimaced and began to stand up; pushing his weight up with that magical staff that was in his hand. Before he could begin to walk down the trail again he stopped. He stopped because something had landed on his ears. He cocked his head and listened intently and he was sure that there was someone walking down the pathway. Leaning against a tree he waited to see who the traveler was.
