View Full Version : Does your character have a home realm?
Many of us have characters that travel through different regions searching for adventure, as we check out the different features that the diversity of Althanas' regions have to offer. However, others tend to prefer to have their characters centered more in one region and their storylines revolve around that. This has its advantages as these characters can become increasingly involved in a storyline for that specific region enhancing their characters plots. For instance, it would be difficult to imagine Zeig without Haidia/Tular, or Findelfin without Raiaera.
How do you feel about your characters, are they primarily based out of a region, or do you prefer to have them as intercontinental wanderers?
(I stole this from the 2006 thread by INDK, but it's a pertinent question all the same).

As most people know, Artemis travels the world of Salvar as his primary region. Knife's Edge in particular, but that will be changing soon as I found a new town outside of the massive city's wall as a reprieve from the turmoil of the recent events at St. Denebriels Cathedral and so on.
Still, Artemis is from the Corone region, born there and raised, but made his home in Salvar from the point I started writing.
My alt, Regis Daili, well.... he's bound to the library of Underwood as his career choice and isn't an adventuring type, so all his stuff will be in Underwood primarily, maybe other areas of Corone for short business trips. Nothing off-island though.

Josh is originally from Earth, but after dying on Althanas he came back as some bizarre demigod thing. So that makes his birthplace... complex.
Jake is a Concordian human-elf, pretty straightforward lineage there. Since he has the ability to continent-hop almost at will, I play him as being much more worldly than the average Coronian teenager.
Reever is a giant otter that came from an underwater cavern colony I invented years ago because I wanted a Redwall-esque character. He has a tendency to show up late to help save the day whilst talking like a pirate. Otters arrren't so fast on two legs y'see.
Stacia is originally from Scara Brae, but currently resides in Underwood. I often have her think in terms of courts, royals, knights and other Scara Brae type stuff in attempt to convey that. And due to her previous career she's also been around the block.
Phyr Sa'resh was an Aleraran engineer/soldier, then did hard time in Alerar, Knife's Edge, and finally a little-known prison just below Berevar's border. That's where I started his storyline, and since then he travelled the length of Salvar with Christina Bredith chasing him, and somehow made it to Corone.
Actually, all of my characters currently reside in Underwood. It's almost like they are plotting something...

Savas and Caden are both from Salvar, but only Caden has actually returned there post-CharApps. Savas is essentially looking to settle down; he was stuck in Raiaera for a while, then tried Scara Brae, now he's attempting to set up shop in Radasanth. Caden's career as a character has mostly been spent wandering around, with a slight bias towards Raiaera due to his involvement in the Corpse War. Now that the war is over (long over), he's branched off elsewhere and is, again, all over the place.
Rowan and Aeraul were both wanderers, though they also both settled down -- more or less -- in Scara Brae, at least until the Cataclysm of the Catacombs. And now they're both dead so it's kind of a moot point.

Maddy was born and raised in Corone, whilst my first character, Elijah Morendale, was from Salvar. But you wouldn't know from the way he spoke, how he acted, or how he carried himself. The only tell was that he was a cryomancer of sorts, and I thought myself witty to have a mage who slings ice be from the coldest known parts of Althanas.

Erissa is Althanian through and through. She was born in Raiaera, though the place she calls home now is decidedly Underwood.
There's a funny story about her and Anebrilith, though. Ask me sometime, and I'll tell you. :)

Valino was born and raised in Salvar.

All of my characters hail from Salvar. Not sure why -- it just always happens that way. My main, Elijah Belov, was specifically designed to travel all over the place, whereas my half-Orc alt focuses primarily in Salvar.
I don't even fucking know where Atzar is from anymore.

Hmm... Drudging up my old characters... Well...
Anenfel Saendithas, also known as The Wayfarer, is from Scara Brae, where he still resides. He joined the Scarabrian guard after helping fend off a spider attack and help kill a giant spider god.
Rathmar Hammerfist -- He didn't really go anywhere, to be completely honest. At the time, I was trying to become the content creator for Kachuk and had plans for expanding the Dwarves a bit with a new outpost/frontier type of town in the mountains called Dwarfendgarde. Then, he took 200ish dwarves, built some ships and helped repel the invasion in the desert nation of Fallien.
Ah, Braden Larn, the good ol' farmboy. He was from a small struggling farm outside of Radasanth. But when his father couldn't make good on his loans from Corone's seedy criminal organization, The Syndicate, they sent two enforcers to deal with the problem. Making a long story short, Braden witnessed his father's death, killed one of the men and accidently burned down his farm. After finding his mother dying and his younger sister missing, he fled to the city to look for help in one Letho Ravenheart.
Shisui Reijinku, from the clan Reijinku. He was from Akashima. A rather uninspired character.
Jasker Lightfoot, a halfling and probably my favorite of the bunch, hailed from Scara Brae as well. He was the son of a carpenter, and raised with the expectations that he would become one as well. But as life began to drag, he found himself incredibly bored and fled from his home in search of bigger and better things. Thereafter, he was picked up by a thieving guild in Radasanth and taught their trade, which he found himself to be proficient, until a small misunderstanding between himself, a fellow guildmate and that guildmate's wife, forced him to part ways. He now works freelance across Althanas via word-of-mouth, sneaking and thieving for the right price.
This character, though? He's from a place far beyond the "known world", in the unexplored lands of Althanas.
