View Full Version : What are you playing right now?
Hey, it's a forum institution...you know it.
So, Althanians, what are you all playing right now? (Besides on Althanas :p).
I am currently swamped by the sheer immensity of Disgaea 4...so much tactical fun, stat trawling and quirky attacks.
I just picked up Red Dead Redemption finally, very cheap, to give me a change of tempo, and I'm expected SSX Monday/Tuesday through the post, which I'm really stocked about :).

I'm currently in the middle of another run of Donkey Kong Country 2, for nostalgia's sake. Thinking about knocking out another Chrono Trigger playthrough after that.
As for more modern games, I'm getting ready to put my 300th hour into Pokemon White, and somehow finding time to mess around online in Mario Kart 7, get all the medals and gold stars in Super Mario 3D Land, and play Hot Shots Golf, Lumines, and Rayman Origins on my spiffy PS Vita.
Taking Earth back. That is all.
Oh, by the way, Red Dead Redemption is awesome. Easily my favorite open-world game.

Earth isn't going to save itself, and the Normandy's people need my Shepard to keep it in line.
Afterwards, I'm diving back into the Necromorph invasion via Dead Space 2.
And after the 30th, Warriors Orochi 3. Now with more warriors besides just Samurai/Dynasty. Joan of Arc, Ryu Hayabusa, Ayane, -and- a character from Warriors of Troy? Awesomeness has never looked so good.
btw Letho, where are you at in ME3?
*stays out of the Mass Effect conversation with a barge pole.

Mass Effect 3, just like everyone else. I could never give up on Shepard and the crew.
I also play my fair share of League of Legends, when my game time is a little more sparse.

Blazblue currently. If you never played this fighting game, it's got a brilliantly crafted Plot and story with so much depth you'd never expect from a game where you beat the shit out of your opponents.
outside that, I duel on Motorcycles, but not much else
btw Letho, where are you at in ME3?POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD:
I'm currently getting ready to deliver the cure for the genophage on Tuchanka.
END SPOILERS
The krogan are fucking awesome.
After Mass Effect 3 I'll probably get into Metal Gear Solid HD Collection. Probably just play Sons of Liberty, then move onto something else, then return for Snake Eater. So I don't get Snake overdose.

I see, have you
You do the side mission with Grunt? If so, then....
Did he survive? If so, how bad ass was that scene?

Yes and yes. And very very badass. Made me wish he was a party member again.
I'm further than you both, just wrapping up work with the Quarians.
And the Prothean character is awesome (if you grabbed the dlc)
I play Civ V from time to time, but that's the only game right now that I'll play for long lengths of time. Other than that, I'll play Super Mario World, Link to the Past, Mario Kart 7, and a few other games that I'll play for an hour or so in a sitting.

I just spent my weekend burning myself out on Tera Online. It's a fun game and I'd probably invest in it, but I've decided that 1) I'll burn out fast, 2) I will get nothing done, 3) I don't want to invest financially in it, and 4) that it'll probably flop in a few month anyways.
Installing ME3 now. Will play through the single player in the downtime between playing online with orphans and others on PC multiplayer. Beta was fun.
Runescape is always there for me, as is the occasional MW3 matches, on PC as well.
Maybe Diablo 3 will be good, but we'll see.

I'm actually where you're at right now, Zerith, the very end of the quarian mission. Letho, this spoiler is for ahead of where you're at.
Did you manage to let Legion sacrifice himself, -and- save the Quarians? I tried to let him sacrifice the first time, but then Tali jumped off the cliff, so I reset my game and had to let Tali use that knife she's never used but always had.
I just started playing multiplayer shortly after that, as my heart wasn't oin it after seeing that name on the memorium.

Working my way alternately through Final Fantasy Tactics and Final Fantasy 13. And the wife just convinced me to start up Kingdom Hearts again.
Deus Ex Human Revolution is up after that.
Out of curiosity, what class are you folks playing in Mass Effect? For those who didn't get around to 3 yet, which class you played/preferred in previous installments?
I play the Infiltrator. Always. In multiple walkthroughs. A sniper is just my class, it's what I play in all shooters anyways and I'll be damned if I won't play it in a shooter/RPG. Granted, classes make little difference in 2 and 3, but in the first Mass Effect it made a hell of a difference. You were usually stuck with class-specific weapons (sniper and pistol for Infiltrator) because the rest you couldn't use efficiently and you could decrypt and unlock stuff other people can't (I think engineers might also unlock stuff, but not sure).
In 2 and 3, class basically just determines the special ammo and some skills you get, but you can basically play it with any weapon from my experience. I mean, I'm currently using an assault rifle and a sniper rifle (just bought the Black Widow for whooping 250000 credits) and I'm kicking major ass. I used to go with the heavy pistol because an Infiltrator is supposed to use one, but after a while I found it has no benefits over the assault rifle other than the faster power recharge. And that's really no match for the stopping power of an assault rifle, especially an accurate one like the Mattock or whatever it's called.

I went with a Soldier during the eight or so hours I threw into the original Mass Effect. Messing around with the biotics and stuff never appealed to me. Sadly, I just couldn't get into the game as much as other people. I'm always up for a well-crafted sci-fi universe, but the game itself didn't do anything new for me.

Beat the game last night, don't know why everyones up in arms aboot it so much.
Anyways, for first playthrough and insanity playthroughs, I also use infiltrator. Though I'm going to go back to 2 as FemShep Adept or Engineer I think.

I play as a Soldier. Although, I've been dabbling with the Slam bonus power I got from the DLC squadmate; I like it. I usually use the Mattock assault rifle, the Viper sniper (hehe), and a pistol.
I'm currently doing the quarian missions and I'm contemplating trying the Arc pistol. But it weighs so much!
Sei, how many hours did it take you to complete it? Just so I know how much I have left.
Also, I like Armor-piercing bonus power. Armored enemies are a pain in the ass and every bit of penetration power helps. Did anyone try Warp ammo yet? I'm not sure it's worth it since very few enemies have barriers so far.
EDIT: And in all honesty, other than the Mantis and the Black Widow (which kicks like a donkey when you fire it), most other sniper rifles I ran into are crap because they don't have enough bang. I always felt a sniper rifle should be one shot-one kill-long reload weapon that forces you to make the shot count and most other rifles have rather low damage and lots of ammo.

Someone's not headshotting enough. :P A maxed out Infiltrator Stat should make you one shot most enemies with any rifle as long as its a head shot. And it took me about 3-4 hours after the Quarians, which is about 3-4 hours after Tunchaka, but of course I'm counting sidequests and visiting all my party members/crew on the Normandy as well. Just wait til you get the energy sniper rifle, that thing is pretty epic. I never bothered with any ammo boost, but then again, I was going through on the easiest setting, while occasionally boosting back to normal for a challenge (but still one-shotting), so I really didn't need an ammo mod.
Also Letho, you might be enraged at the ending, as the trend seems to be at the moment.

I am currently experiencing the joys of Dragon Age Origins. Yes, I know, a little late.
Also playing some Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions and Tactics Ogre. Both beautiful games.

But try taking on anything that has a bit more shield/armor (I play on normal), and you need at least a couple. I used to carry the Valiant or whatever it's called because it didn't have that much of a kickback and I had more ammo, but then I noticed it's taking me a couple of headshots to take down a centurion or something, so I just switched back. I think I'll stick to the Widow. The sound it makes when you fire it is like you're blasting a hole in the world. And also, I payed so much for it, might as well use it. :P
And damnit, I'm just wrapping up with the quarians. The end is nigh. :(
Tactics Ogre is an amazing game. I remember trying to play that game in japanese when I was a kid. I believe it went a little something like this:
Me: All right. Two choices here...don't read japanese so...option one!
Best friend (or so I believed) of main character attacks me.
Me: Oooops. Okay, restart that and...option two!
Best friend attacks me again.
Me: Ya know...I bet all that stuff I couldn't read was REALLY important.
I was simply estatic when they released the english version for the psp. Though at the moment, I'm taking a bit of a walk down memory lane, and playing Deception for the ps1. Course, that's not as much a walk as Link to the Past, but words do not do justice to how awesome that game him.
Hmmm.....time to bust out the old SNES goodies.
SSX just landed on my door mat, already sky dived and descended the Rockies.
Bye Althanas :).

I just beat ME3, I'm actually kinda mindblown. You know how you finish a truly awesome book and then you feel sorta shellshocked and empty for a couple days after? Like that.
Anyway, point is:
Apparently it's possible to get the geth and the quarians to get along, but I have no idea how. I'm entertaining the thought of playing through the whole series from the first, because apparently there are a LOT of different choices/options/outcomes that are only available if you have a fully carried playthrough.
I love the multiplayer, though. If any of you guys have it on PC, my Origin name is tauvyk. Look me up, we can shoot some Cerberus together.

You have to have destroyed the Geth heretics to make it easier, which can be done in 2, otherwise, you need a full max out Paragon, and be able to save Admiral Krios (The Quarian, or whatever his name is) rather than his crew on the optional mission before that. If Para/Rene is high enough, Shepard, the Admiral, and Tali will get the War Admiral to call off the strike. Legion still dies to give the Geth free will, but at least he doesn't try to kill Shep/get stabbed by Tali/shot twice/asks Tali as he dies if he has a soul. Rewriting the heretics can still accomplish this, but you require a higher Para/Rene.

By full Paragon, do you mean you have to have made NOTHING but Paragon choices throughout ME3? That seems crazy to me, just because they have the fancy new "morality" bar that adds up no matter what choices you make, and I think it's more natural or whatever to make some Renegade choices even if you're a paragon, so I just had a sliver of red beneath my blue. The only other prerequisite I didn't have is that for whatever reason my ME2 save wouldn't transfer over, so I was playing fresh. Maybe the default decision for not having a previous playthrough was to let the heretics "live," who knows. The heretics never came up in my playthrough, but a lot of things didn't (like, Legion was replaced by "The geth VI" or some bullshit, who was basically just Legion with a hole blown out the side).
I definitely think I'm going to set aside a shit-ton of time and play through all three games, to get a full perspective on the series and, you know, so Wrex is alive instead of Wreav. Or at least that sounded like a good plan before I found out Diablo III comes out on May 15. I don't know if I can do all three games that fast, but we'll see!
Now you guys know why I haven't written anything in awhile.

If Wrex is dead and Wreav is alive, Wreav unites the Krogan better. Just saying.
Also Geth VI is who replaces Legion if Legion died in ME2
Really? I would have expected Wrex to be the better option, just because we never get a chance to get to know Wreav all that well. Oh oh oh, now that I have you and you seem to be in the know - is there a way to save Eve so the Krogan aren't dicks, or does she die no matter what?
All in all though, ME3 is just weird if you've played the first two and don't upload your save games. I played the first on 360, the second on one PC, and the third on a different PC. So yeah.
I'm getting the like, Lost effect going on though, where I completed the series and now I just want to go back to the very beginning and binge.

You have to choose to save MAelon's data during Morus' loyalty quest on Tunchaka in 2. That saves Eve. Also, if you sabotage the antidote, and Wreav is the leader, he never knows so you still get Krogan's for the fleet, whereas you have to fight and kill Wrex.

I'm staring down a copy of Kid Icarus: Uprising. Yet, I don't have the will to crack open the box.
If I can't get excited over a first-party Nintendo title, it might be time to sell my stuff.
Edit: Just popped it in my 3DS. It's pretty sweet. Although I'm sure something could've been done to make movement and aiming for the on foot sections less of a chore.
I also tried desperately hard to get into Mass Effect--and for 15 hours over the past week, all I could think was "gee, this would make for an excellent text adventure..."
