Dionaea
03-22-12, 10:42 AM
Name: Dionaea
Age: N/A
Gender: Female
Race: N/A
Height: 6'
Weight: based on amount consumed ranges from 90lbs (empty) to 120lbs (full)
Hair: A thick, mid- thigh length brown mass with hints of green and dusty white made up of thin vines
Skin: Ivory with undertones of green, occasional splashes of golden yellow highlight her skin
Eyes: Dark ruby
Appearance: Tall, Dionaea's body depends solely on the amount of water in her body, lending her a figure anywhere between a swimmer's trim body to voluptuous curves. Her skin is splashed with golden yellow over the sharp, high edges of her cheekbones, in the hollow of her throat, and tempting lines that curve around her torso in thin bands. Over a pair of loose brown trousers, Dionaea wears a mossy green robe. It opens in a deep narrow V to the waist, held shut by only a few ties. Dionaea wears no shoes as the skin on the bottom of her feet though smooth is as tough as bark. Slender, long-fingered hands are tipped with deep brown nails, grown out into curved talons.
Unique Biology: A near invisible line starting from just under the jaw runs down to the groin, allowing her torso to open fully to envelope objects for dissolving and absorption. (Metal, stone, glass and gems can't be absorbed)
Dionaea prefers to consume living matter. Items consumed, either by torso cavity or by blending in and eating by mouth can be spat out by either orifice. Dionaea sickens when eating cooked foods or rotting matter. Also, tainted water is most often poisonous to her as her body directly absorbs it without the filtering effect the soil would provide for normal plants. Dionaea also requires a moderate amount of water and sunlight every few days before her body begins to wither.
Dionaea produces nectar in place of bodily secretions (tears, saliva, sweat) giving her a saccharine scent. Through her veins a milky, thicker than human blood flows.
Bones have the strength and flexibility of willow branches.
The thick mass of vines that make up Dionaea's hair is moderately prehensile with a grip equal to a young child's grasp. On occasion, if the weather is warm and her body has been nourished tiny five petaled, white-throated purple will bloom in her hair.
Abilities: Normal digestive secretions inside torso cavity contains a mild numbing agent. (Ex: Snuggling in bed with a sleeping human, Dionaea decides she wants a midnight snack and pops his hand into her torso opening. She would be able to dissolve and absorb only the actual skin on his hand before pain overrode the numbness her secretions produced.)
Digestion rate: Flesh alone 2-3lbs per hour. Bone takes 3 times longer to dissolve than flesh. Based on amount of meal recently consumed Dionaea can go up to 3 months between meals.
Cellular Memory: Dionaea learns from her sources of food, though what she learns is random.
Dionaea constantly produces pheromones from her pores. (Pheromones are only an attractant)
The sap from wounds crystallizes in air within minutes forming a stiff casing over wounds that is easily cracked and limits mobility. Larger wounds harden at a much slower rate. (A deep sword cut would take an hour to seal. Missing bits, limbs or digits take upwards of a full day to seal.) If small open wounds are left encased in the crystallized sap for 3 hours it will seal enough to not reopen unless cut again.
Accelerated regrowth: Hair and nails, when damaged or broken, immediately begin to regenerate when emmersed in sunlight.
Skills: Hand to hand – fair
History: Personal Diary of Aalish NicDalais. Head Botanist, expedition from Donnalaich.
Day 17
Last night we lost Esras to what the elves call the Dur`Taigen. The wolves that haunt this bloodstained gods-forsaken forest. Oran thinks Esras wandered too far from the safety of the fire, studying the teeth-ringed tree we all spotted prior to setting up camp.
Day 22
Following a strangely wide trail we discovered in the forest, the party stumbled upon the largest concentration of Soul Blossoms we’ve ever seen. Saoirse believes the forest lead us to this place, claiming that the forest is sentient, sparking a fight with the remaining five members of our party. Oran and Brennen in particular were vehement in their protestations against Saoirse`s theory. I fear my control over this expedition is failing.
Day 24
A close call earlier today Tobin was struck by a soul blossom and fell. Had Finnian not been with his twin he would have perished. Some good has come from today’s misfortune though. We discovered the largest plant thus far containing soul blossoms. The base stalk alone we guess at 3 feet in diameter, if only we could get close enough to take samples and readings.
Day 25
A large pod has been spotted on the far side of the plant. Along with the usual complaints about the trail rations, speculation has been flying over dinner over the nature of the pod. It should take the better part of tomorrow to safely navigate around the clearing, from there Oran will use the thicker gear we have managed to cobbled together to get closer to the plant and pod.
Day 29
I’ve missed days of recording. The events of the last few days have been beyond belief, beyond anything I could have ever hoped to find. Oran managed to make it to the pod without incident. Before the sampling process could begin the pod separated from its stalk at Oran’s touch. After a long discussion we had Oran tried it off with rope and bring the lead back to us. The pod was surprisingly light despite its size. We hauled near to the center of camp to examine it and found it warm to the touch. Saoirse bored out a small sample from the center of the mass and a sample of the fluid that leaked out from the hole.
Shortly after nightfall the pod split open. Inside lay a fully formed woman unlike anything we have ever seen. She seems to be a plant based humanoid. Unable to comprehend and lacking in social skills there was a... confrontation when Finnian attempted to assist the woman from the pod. We have cleaned and bandaged his wounds as best as we can but he will bear scars on his face and arms for the rest of his life.
We have spent the four exhausting days getting close to the woman and earning her trust. She is a lot like a wild animal, skittish, aggressive yet as curious about us as we are her.
Day 31
Saoirse has gone missing, vanished over night without a sign. Her supplies are still in her tent, we searched the surrounding forest with no luck. The only good news I have to report is the woman, Dionaea as we have named her, is rapidly learning the basics of common speech. At the rate of her development I expect to be able to hold a intelligent conversation with her within a months time.
Day 40
Both Tobin and Finnian are dead. Near midday yesterday, an altercation between Finnian and Dionaea broke out. As I drew near, I spotted the shimmering edge of Tobin`s wing sticking out from a narrowing vertical opening in Dionaea`s torso. Once Dionaea was driven away form camp, Oran set up guard while I tended to Finnian. As he sickened, Finnian told me what he witnessed. Dionaea came to it Tobin, arms out as if in a embrace and unsuspecting Tobin hugged her while Finnian looked on. Finnian spoke of Dionaea`s body opening wide, describing the lack of body organs, the florid swirls of red and green, and the reed-like look of her ribs. Finnian refused to speak further of exactly how Dionaea`s body enveloped Tobin, locking him with her. I admit I am disappointed both in the lack of further information and in myself for the wanting of it.
Tomorrow we shall make all due haste away from this forest and back to Dheathain. I hope for my fallen Fae sister and brothers souls that their next return is an easier one. Perhaps if I make it out of this forest and back to Dheathain I will give up my studies into Botany and instead devote myself to finding a reason why one twins wastes away if the other falls.
