Archanex Jotham vs Death's Apprentice

Death's Apprentice

It was a home coming.

The Phoenix Ascendant had asked for her help, they had cited several reasons, but ultimately it came down to one core reason that she joined. Phoenix Ascendant didn’t care at all about who she was, or where she was from. In the end she only mattered because of what she was doing, and Lynura Du’Galle, of House Erriades was very good at the task set before her. They had needed a diplomat to lobby for favor in the courts. No one else had the standing, or the skills to be able to enter such a court and walk away. A group of minor thieves and thugs, Phoenix Ascendant lacked the sophistry required to convince the nobles to their cause.

So when they requested help, Lynura Du’galle of House Erriades stepped forward.

I had taken them a few days to get everything she needed to show up at the Gala event. There had been arguments at first, but her reasoning had been sound. Eventually they had worked to get her what she needed. She of course had her last dress, left over from when she had sold the others to make rent. The dress had been kept in utmost care, and had required minimal amount of tailoring to fit. Next was the jewelry. Of this it had taken the gathering of more than a few pieces, with even more borrowed from the locals in Vorsport. Eventually she had found enough to show up and not look like a local peasant playing at noble. Finally was the bath, her first in a long while. It was the breath of fresh air she needed to focus on her task.

She would take out the Ixian Knights, by assassinating the last support they had in the courts.

Her boots clicked over the flagstones moving down the hallways to the ballroom. She had dreamed of this so long, and perhaps there was an ulterior motive in her arrival tonight. Perhaps she got a dark sense of satisfaction in knowing her parents would be there, witnessing the first volley against the public relations the Ixian Knights had worked so hard to build up. She finally reached the double doors that marked the entrance, where the doorman waited, to accept the invitations. Lynura looked over her shoulder to see her companion on the trip, who was tugging idly at the neck of his outfit. It obviously chaffed him, and Lynura Du’Galle smirked at the sign of irritation before she looked back forward and said firmly, “Levi, the invitation?”

Levi Jacobs was a thief of Radasanth that had enrolled into the Phoenix Ascendant. He had been given to Lynura as an assistant in the matter, so that she could act as a true noble. The man grumbled before he reached into the vest he was wearing and produced the letter. Handing it over the Lynura she smiled at the young thief before he gave her a smile of his own and spoke up, “Careful there Lyn, one might think you’re enjoying yourself.”

“Oh yes Levi, very much. You’re dismissed for the evening,” Lynura said with a dismissive wave.

Levi’s eyes widened before he asked, “Lyn, you sure about this? What if someone tries something?”

Lynura laughed, the sound like bells as her gloved hand went to her chest leaning forward to catch her breath before she drew herself up, “Levi, if someone were to attack me, they would be committing the biggest mistake of their life. I would invite them to try.”

She then handed the envelope over to the doorman who nodded and looked upon the paper within before he looked to her, “And how should I introduce the Lady?”

“Lynura deposed of House Erriades. Make that clear that I am deposed,” Lynura said before she folded her arms before her, adding a feeling of innocence to her visage. She then took a deep breath and nodded softly and gestured for the doorman to proceed.

“Introducing, Lynura Du’Galle Deposed member of House Erriades!”

(It's a pleasure to work with you. Note: bunnies of Sei approved by Sei. Furthermore, Lindra is one of my NPC's.)

He read the letter one last time to be certain that he was reading it right.

Dear Archanex Jotham,

Your leaders at the Ixian Knights have made their move. Corone's current regime has been declared and enemy of the Nation of Corone. The freedom fighters of the Ixian Knights will hold the Empire's regime accountable for it's war crimes and crimes against humanity. Ixian Knights will be in full mobilization, including all new recruits to the war machine. Sei has ordered that all new members are to prove themselves and be active during the battle against Corone. Each of you will be given a specific task in order to test your skills. The point being to hold the regime's agents accountable for their actions. It is time to usurp the regime and retake the land of heroes. The Ixian Knights will uphold the sanctity of the city of heroes!

Ixian Knight members are free to use any methods necessary, to the extreme most capacity of their skill. That is all. The Empire's Agents will fall.

Signed on Date X,
~Sei Orlouge

As one of the newest members of the Ixian Knights, Archanex Jotham understood the ideology of Sei more than just about any other member. The group was mobilized for a war that was meant to be fought on the battlegrounds of Radasanth. Jadet. Gisela. And all the other provinces of Corone. In a single action, the Ixian Knights were prepared to take back what belonged to the people. The war against Corone's Empire had begun, and the Knights would hold the Empire responsible. Staring at the other part of the letter, Archanex carefully eyed his mission briefing one last time. Much to his luck, a coincidence brought him to the building he was now staring at. One of the many gathering halls for high level parliament members, Archanex had been tracking an enemy of his for at least a month. It was a recent strike of good fortune, or perhaps, brilliance, that lead Archanex to that building at that exact time and day. His eyes were narrowed as he went over his mission briefing. Key members of the Empire, both aligned to it, and those who weren't were in attendance at a high-security meeting.

In Archanex's eyes, after his allegiance to the Goblin Horde, he would not discriminate friend from foe. Insofar as Archanex was concerned, his enemy was a reflection of the currently dark state of humanity. Lindra, an agent of the Hedge Magi, and thusly, one of the Empire's many secret moles, was going to be in attendance of that meeting. Archanex smiled as he pictured Lindra carefully in his mind. Ever curvaceous aspect of her figure, her full lips and hair, and most importantly, her betrayal. Once, Archanex had fallen on the battlefields of Scara Brae when Lindra and her cohorts had back-stabbed him. During that event, Archanex had died, but was risen by an otherworld power. He had broken free from the Hedge Magi of Scara Brae, and tracked Lindra's movements back to Radasanth. She had immediately attempted to gather support for her cause to eradicate the Goblin Horde of Scara Brae, to the man. Archanex was an ally of the Goblin Horde. He knew they were not savages, and would defend them with his very life.

At that moment, various political movements were being discussed by the agents of the regime.

Archanex stood on the streets of Radasanth looking at the building, it was an old-style motif.

The style was post the Demon War of Althanas, and had more modern architecture.

Archanex closed his eyes and thought about what was about to happen. Corone. A land at war with itself and what it stood for. Archanex had spent a significant amount of time in Scara Brae, but upon his return to Corone, he'd studied current events. Times were dark indeed. As Archanex focused himself for the event at hand, he began to slowly picture the delegates that were on his hit-list. The parliamentary building did not have to be completely destroyed, but Archanex realized that may be an option. He knew Sei wouldn't approve, but it was a war. Archanex was prepared to sacrifice dearly for this war against their enemy. Opening his eyes again, his face became grim. There was no mask to obscure his handsome feature. No hood up, he wanted the enemy to see. He wanted the enemy to know. It was me, Archanex Jotham, son of the Overmages, who defeated you. With that last thought in mind, Archanex stood in a fully upright stance. Wielding an elegant wizard's staff, the Overmage began to walk slowly towards the grand building that was about to become one of the many historical battle-sites of the war between Ixian Knights and the regime of Corone.

Sei and the other heavy hitters would be going against the harder targets, Archanex knew. They handed out assignments based on the skill level of each individual Ixian Knight member. Archanex realized that right off bat. Taking a final deep breath, the Overmage walked slowly towards the building. The Empires' regalia was visible on banners and flags everywhere. Agents were also present in the forms of armoured guards. Archanex had already enchanted his staff with elemental electricity. It glowed with it's own halo. As he walked forward, he felt his heart strangely beating normally. Some would view him as a hero, others a villain. But he no longer cared, he was ready. The Overmage wore the regalia of the Ixian Knights, making his presence known. There was a fancy oak table in the center of the main chamber of the parliamentary building. Don't waste time on the underlings. Focus on getting Lindra. Helping out the Knights is just a bonus. Archanex spotted a small group of workers filling out this or that document for the Empire.

Without looking up at the Overmage, one of the men spoke.

"State your business."

"The one called Lindra. Is she here?"

"Empire business. Can't reveal that information to...?" The man said, and looked up at the armed Overmage. "It's them, the Ixian Knights are here!"

War had begun.

There would be no mercy for the empire's agents.

Archanex grinned. As one of the newest members of the Ixian Knights, the Overmage had something to prove. Of all the members of the Ixian Knights, Archanex had a hunger to belong somewhere. A desire to fit in. A need to find a family to call his own. Archanex was not a cold-blooded monster. He was going to do what was about to be done, because he was a soldier following orders. He knew the orders, he knew the drill. He recalled his last meeting with the Ixian Knight's enforcer. Just so you understand what this is about, this isn't about petty ideology. It's about holding the regime accountable for their actions. You will likely be severely injured or even perish. If you want to back down from this event you can, but then you won't be welcome in the Ixian Knights. The Enforcer said as Archanex recalled. I am ready. Archanex had replied, and that set in motion a spiraling series of events that would change the face of a Nation.

Seeing the man before him attempt to draw a weapon, Archanex was prepared. He swung his mighty enchanted wizard's staff at the general direction of the head of the lad. Both were now locked in movement. Archanex grinned when the fellow's head snapped like a twig underneath the weight of his enchanted staff. "Gentlemen." Archanex said. "The Ixian Knights have declared war on the Empire. Those of you who do not wish to die, are free to leave to fight another day." That was the ultimatum. Several individuals immediately left the chamber, running like mad after witnessing the Overmage kill the fellow before him. A moment later, several heavily armed guards showed up. This is the moment of my life that I have waited. This is what the Ixian Knights have mobilized for. And my enemy, Lindra, is here. Wearing a calm expression on his face, he accepted the fact that many would fall by his hands. It was highly likely he would die too. He was prepared to accept that fact.

Several guards surrounded the Overmage. Steel armour. Mid thirties.

Archanex observed quick facts and grinned. They were standing in rigid combat stances, and each one wore the emblems of the new regime, not Radasanth. Seeing that broke Archanex's heart. "You stand for nothing. Your ancestors would be ashamed of you." Archanex said.

"Lower your weapon and face justice!" The guard captain yelled.

"That will not be happening today I am afraid." Archanex responded in return. "If you tell me the location of the Scara Braean named Lindra, I will allow you to return home to your families."

Upon hearing Archanex speaking, the guards before him looked at each other, then at Archanex. "I don't know who you're talking about, but your assault ends here."

"I am saddened that you would throw your lives for an empty regime." Archanex said. Then, the Overmage rotated his enchanted weapon. He carefully ran up to the nearest of the guards who had prepared to take a swing from his masterwork and steel longsword. Leaping up in the air, wizard staff at the read, he rotated his weapon elegantly. Then, he slammed the lightning infused staff against the head of the guard, a tremendous weight of wizard's lightning burning through the skull of the fellow. His neck instantly snapped, and he fell dead. Archanex landed a few paces forward, and started to speak once again. "O agents of the Empire. My pity to your wives and children. My pity to your brothers, sisters, Fathers and other family members." By then, Archanex was singing. He was prepared to die. Were they? "I am the Reaper. I have come to collect your very souls." With that, the battle began.

***

A few moments later, Archanex had killed the guard's captain and the rest of his cohorts. Archanex's enchanted wizard's staff played a large deal in the battle. After that encounter, the hunt for Lindra of the Hedge Magi would begin. He didn't know where the parliament's meeting hall was, but he didn't care. He could take his time and massacre all who got in his way. He had mercifully allowed the truly innocent a chance to get the hell out. The rest would die. Including he, himself. He was prepared to die to usher in a new era of change and peace in Corone. Someone had to hold the Empirical regime accountable for their war crimes. Those who fought for the empire would fall. He didn't care about any other agents who would involve themselves in the business of the Ixian Knights. Those who interfered would pay dearly.

Limping casually down the hallway, after he had climbed a long staircase, the hunt was on. Lindra was his personal target. But he knew what was at stake. He had been briefed thoroughly as to which particular parliamentary members would be present at the meeting. Those who were public faces, and those who were "secret" agents. As far as Archanex was concerned, if he could get Lindra, he wouldn't mind dying. As he walked he quickly dispatched anybody that he came across wearing the Empire's regalia. His eyes grew colder and colder as he killed. The screams of the dead and dying filled the halls of the parliamentary building. By that point, Archanex knew that he was getting closer and closer to where the high-level meeting was taking place.

Then, he saw it. An elegant set of guards up ahead. That must be the place. Archanex broke into a run, and swung at the head of the closer of the pair of guards. With his electricity enchantment, the head twisted in an odd angle, a scream, and the other guard swung into action as well. Archanex kept moving, he knew he would never have another chance at the operation.

"The Ixian Knights are here!" The remaining guard yelled down the hall to gather up more reinforcements.

Archanex grinned. The odds were against him and his people, but it was a war worth fighting. A cause worth dying for. "Is the one called Lindra in this chamber?" Archanex asked, holding the tip of his wizard's staff against the throat of the guard.

"Lindra?"

Archanex killed.

She would have killed for an artist to do his rendition of the gathered crowd.

No one had expected her to show. Sure the rumors had traveled faster than her from the small town of Vorsport. They had of course questioned it immediately. For her to show up and accept a standing invitation was surely career suicide. They had thought her a broken woman who would come running back to her parents shortly. They expected her to be the dutiful daughter. Still, Lynura Du'Galle had learned a bit under the leadership of Elisdrasil. The man had talked of bucking fate itself, and to the young human that sounded too good an opportunity to pass up.

She was no simpleton she would follow Elisdrasil and destroy the chains of fate that threatened to constrict about her. She had seen the future her parents wanted, and found it revolting. Mediocrity was her fate. She would never be in a position of true power, always the dutiful servant. The incident with the Fallien nobility that had exiled her was the excuse, rather than the true reason. Mediocrity was a horrible fate, and the simmering anger towards her parents fueled her drive to pull herself out of the depression that threatened to swallow her whole. In doing so, she had taken the first step in casting off the trappings of royalty.

Moving about the crowds the words of greeting were spoken with a rote feeling of ritual. These people were sheep. They had no inkling of the true war being fought in the background, and Lynura was more than willing to become their shepherd. Her parents had greeted her with a reception that made Salvar sound downright warm. She had said her hellos quickly before she moved on, ignoring their pleas to talk to her in a private setting. The Lynura Du'Galle they had attempted to train would have done so, and possibly died in that room. Not a true death, for her parents were far too cruel for such a mercy. No, she would have ceased being a person, merely another sheep in the flock.

Conversation polite and as close to honest as any politician spoke up of the coming war. They talked of the troop movements near Gisela and a hope that the Rangers would be eradicated by Sei Orlouge, brining an end to the cold war. They didn't understand that in doing so, Sei would of course shackle them, make them beholden to him as their savior. Still she feigned polite innocence of the matter. She was a member of Phoenix Ascendant and she knew the horrible truth. Sei's regime wasn't about ending the war between these people. He had targeted the Rangers first with diabolic intent. He was seeking to pacify the sheep by offering a dead wolf. Surely they would discard their old shepherd for the one who actually protected them from their folly.

Court was to be held later that week to meet about the issue.

Now was the time to sow the seeds of discord and strike another blow against the chains that were hanging from the throats of every single person here. Chaos would ensue of course, but a constructive chaos. She was here to awake these dreamers from their slumber and show them the nightmare of what the world had truly planned for them. The nobility would never survive the turmoil of Sei Orlouge's regime and how convenient that he would of course have several people who were adept at leadership, ready to pick up the falling pieces.

Torches flickered on the walls casting their light brightly about the ballroom as Lynura stood amidst a gathered group of people debating the war. Of course there was worries of what would happen after Gisela fell, but that was a trivial matter. Surely he would not come to Radasanth? A rather portly gentlemen raised up his wine glass as he let his voice carry, "The Ronin Taka will easily crush the forces of the Rangers at Gisela. If he solves that problem we would be free to strike Underwood without hesitation. It might rattle our neighbors in Akashima, but that is a small price to pay for solidarity once more."

"If Taka is not forced to move on Radasanth after he finishes in Gisela," Lynura spoke up. Her voice rang with a clarity. She could tell a few of the nobles had not wished to espouse this concern, and the gentlemen turned to Lynura with his eyes narrowing as he tilted his head, studying her for the first time.

"You speak of this man as if you know him," The portly man queried.

"It is hard not to know about the ronin Taka. He is by far the weakest of the Ixian Generals. He was a mere Yanbo port guard, and here he is in charge of an army suddenly. I would question the credentials of a man to seize a city that even the might of the Coronian military has been hard pressed to capture. It is a valiant first effort in the act of unification, but should not our forces be there to complete the job? Should not the valiant sons of Corone finish the task set before them rather than let some simpering fool bumble along?" Lynura walked forward spreading her arms wide and encouraging others to speak up. Soon she got the murmurs of consent that she knew were brewing.

"Miss Du'Galle, I must say that you certainly have a better grasp of the situation than I. I had not heard this particular tale, how is it you came to find out?"

"The Radasanth Reader had published much about the Ixian Knights. There is talks of the Tantalus Troupe that terrorized Scara Brae counting themselves honored allies of the Knights. Zerith Dracosius, another so-called General of Sei Orlouge, is the heir apparent of Moria after all, and even Seth Dahlios the infamous Lavinian Demon is counted amongst their steady ranks. But if it is as you say and Taka is at Gisela, I wonder were the more unsavory members of the Ixian Knights are? Could they even now be slipping into Radasanth, to prepare for the longer siege? Gisela has stood for so long I doubt they have much left to hold themselves together. No, the true strike will be here in Radasanth." It was then she recognized the nobleman. He was Gerald Fontaine, a man who had of course his hands in the trade industry. He controlled the ports and was the least at risk to listen to Sei Orlouge.

He was likely Sei's contact with the Radasanth Government. A predatory smile crossed her lips before she challenged the man openly, "So tell my lord, how is business lately?"

The man glowered at Lynura before he took a breath and began to formulate his counter argument.

(Due to an unforeseen and unfortunate incident that occurred today, I am no longer able to post. I will need to recover from an injury to my arm I have sustained and I will have to pull out from the war and all current IC threads with all my toons. This is only until I recover from the injury I have sustained. I have already spoke to Dirks and Sei about this situation. Anyway it was really good working with you and look forward to working with you in the near future. You're a blast to rp with! )
