View Full Version : A Moulding Menagerie

Duffy

A menagerie of requests for items pertaining to Duffy. As he has become injured, some will no longer be needed, but I'd like to upgrade the following to make them more suitable, gold permitting.

Tooth & Nail: Duffy’s first two iron daggers from his youth, nicknamed ‘Tooth’ & ‘Nail’. They are inscribed with the opening and closing lines of I Want to Be Your Canary, the former on Tooth and the latter on Nail. They are 25 centimetres long from hilt to blade tip and are enchanted to slash or pierce (respective of their names) at a much fiercer rate than their mundane iron components would otherwise allow (at present, as strong as steel).

I would like to upgrade these blades to steel. I would like to do this via mundane means. Then I'd like to enchant Tooth so that it causes piercing wounds with a X1.5 strength modifier. I'd like to then enchant Nail so that it slashes with a X1.5 strength modifier.

The Katarhna: A simple steel katana with a black handle and gold hilt. It is a magical blade that is held in a simple black Akashima sheath, usually strapped to his back, tilted to the right. It can be drawn with either hand but requires adjustment to do so with the left, making any such movement risky and more time consuming. As Lysander’s personality grows in strength, so too do the innate qualities of the sword. It now resists blows from non-magical weapons as if it was dehlar and when wielded by Lysander, it strikes at dehlar strength.

In accordance with new Bazaar policy, I would like to stipulate here that the sword no longer grows in strength alongside Lysander's personality, as Lysander is now the physical form Duffy has taken. The sheath on his back has also gone, and he carries it conventionally on his hip now, or summons it using Leopold's Vernal Vault ability. Thus, it currently looks like:

The Katarhna: A simple steel katana with a black handle and gold hilt. It is a magical blade that is held in a simple black Akashima sheath, tilted to the right. It resists blows from non-magical weapons as if it was dehlar and when wielded by Lysander, it strikes at dehlar strength.

I would like to flat-out upgrade it permanently to Dehlar. I would also like to enchant it so that it resonates and vibrates whenever Duffy is singing, giving it a X1.5% strength modifier when he's using his vocal skills. (Bare in mind, Duffy is going to lose all of his strength and dexterity modifying combat abilities pertaining to his daggers at level nine).

Tinder Gear:
The Tinder Gear is both an artisan's tool and weapon system, depicting the balance between the everyday and the darker side of the street. It comprises of small, almost invisible packs of a fuel known as agelethien, which are pumped along the pipes visible on the backs of Duffy's arms, and a bracer/jettison system coupled with a pair of flint strip covered gloves. All the materials are available readily, leather/oil/simple metals and flint etc. The gloves, when brought together with force make a loud clap, like a thunderclap, and when moved past each other sparks are spread, to 2 feet (, no combat use, but good as a fire lighting tool). With a punching movement, the packs under the arms and along the back are squeezed, forcing the material to spray outwards, and the sparks from the gloves ignite the fuel which can produce flame up to nine feet long in short bursts of 1-2 seconds, (which is a random time, as the fuel ejection cannot be controlled to any reasonable degree). This will cause burns or set clothes alight at best and will never kill, although it can be used in a combat situation the fuel is too rare to be spraying every low-life thug Duffy is run into. Using a display of sparks, flames and zymology (, drawing images/circles on the floor then igniting them) Duffy conjures the core of his performance/entertaining ability - at the same time having a nasty surprise for any violent members of the audience. Events in A Cut of the Chord have hinted at another use, that of spraying the liquid on a target first, then igniting, to cause contact burns. Although this is risky and dangerous to both parties involved it can be done. It will not be fatal but will certainly leave its mark, (PC Permission required). After using the Tinder Gear fully, for 3-4 strong sprays gold must be reduce by 25% of the total earned in that thread, such is the expense of the liquid required to fulfil it.

This bad boy has treated me kindly over the years of use, but it's time to put it to rest. I would like to trade her off for gold, an appropriate amount given the investment into it's use, and the rarity of it's mechanism.

Geisha Mask:
A ceramic fox masque in the traditional Akashiman style, with red ribbon to secure it to the face and a broad bright smile moulded into it. It conceals the face completely, but asides from its disguise potential, it has no magical ability nor is it worth anything.

I'd like to enchant this mask with an omni-linguist enchantment. It should allow Duffy above average understanding of every native tongue of Althanas, but not the ability to speak it in kind.

Your little daggers will cost you 225 apiece to upgrade and enchant, so 450 for those two.

The katarnah... Dehlar is not a good idea to upgrade a blade to. It is a heavy, unwieldy metal and too soft to hold an edge. Might I suggest Delyn?

200 GP to enchant the mask

Tinder Gear will net you about 350 gold.

Could I up the modifier on the daggers to X2 with the same restrictions?

Mask and Gear and Delyn all agreed. Thanks!

(More to come after this, if I have gold left)...

400 for the upgrade to the Katarnah.
600 for the upgrade and enchantments to Tooth and Nail.

Excellent - looks like I'm considerably poorer!

Total?

Total, with the gains you make from the Tinder Gear, you'll walk away with 1,150 less gold than you started with. Forgot the enchantment to the Katarnah. Unless you have a problem with the final price for it of 700 GP, we're good, though.

Duffy Bracken loses 1,150 gold and gains Steel and Strength upgrades to Tooth and Nail, Delyn upgrade to the Katarnah, and enchantment to the Geisha Mask, and loses the Tinder Gear.

I'd also like to purchase, as discussed, four platinum bangles with elegant wrought decor that effectively give the wearer Arden's Blink ability. It follows the same, once per quest or battle limitation and ability as Arden had at level 0.

• Blink: (http://www.althanas.com/world/showthread.php?20577-Arden-Blank-Janelle&highlight=) Blank can manipulate his own chronotrons once per thread to, quite simply, Blink himself from existence, flittering between the reality that is Althanas and the alternative realm of The Aria for precisely two seconds. He will re-appear in exactly the same place, and continue on exactly the same momentum and trajectory should he have been moving when activated. The practical uses of this are self-defence, to avoid, if given warning a projectile or moving object, or to dash through an opponent to attack from behind; it takes considerable focus to activate at present, and leaves ripples and a vacuum in its wake. When he disappears and re-appears, snippets of text, song or noises darker still will emerge, flying out from the heart of creativity itself.

These bracelets are to be given to Duffy, Ruby, Lillith, and Arden. In addition, they allow each member of the troupe to teleport between their current location and the Grand Council Hall of Brandybuck Castle at will (in quests only, and not under physical duress).

Agreed.

Duffy Bracken loses 4,150 GP and gains Delyn upgrade for Katarnah, Steel upgrade and Strength x2 Enchantments for Tooth and Nail, Linguistic Enchantment for Geisha Mask, 4 Blink-Enchanted Masterwork Platinum Bangles, and loses Timber Gear.
