Name: Berresh, "The Stranger" (formally known as Jorin Cobble)
Age: Unknown, though it is suspected by those who've had business with him that he is at least two centuries old
Race: Corrupted Human (a human being that has been forcibly amalgamated with a malicious, supernatural being; in this case, a powerful Vetala named Agni)
Hair Color: Dirty Brown
Eye Color: Blue; dull sapphire
Height: 6' 2'' (188cm)
Weight: 175lbs. (79kgs.)
*Occupation: Bourgeois (Paid, sanctioned mountain man)

*Personality: Chronically unpredictable. Due to his nature as a Corrupted Human, Berresh's mind shows a duel set of traits. The insatiably curious, and mischievous mind of Jorin clashes with the scrutinizing, caustically analytical mind of the vetala, Agni. It is such that it would seem Berresh redefines his personality traits regularly, though an intelligence comes forth as a stable persona that gives a glimpse at a colorfully sharp mind. Berresh can exhibit a wide range of behaviors from generally amiable and talkative, to searching and caustic. There is generally no way to tell how Berresh may react to a problem or quandary without identifying which personality he is drawing from, though it is generally safe to assume that he will arrive to the same solution in one frame of mind as he would another. That being said, he does in fact have two "frames of mind"; A light-hearted and mischievous teenage mind that slacks off, makes jokes laced with sarcasm, and is generally fond of a good time. These are the personality traits of Jorin, and they are such that when in the dominant frame it seems difficult for Berresh to take life itself seriously. Conversely, the personality traits of Agni would lead one to believe that Berresh is painfully serious, and stubborn. He rarely makes jokes, and views unfamiliar people as objects more than people. Fortunately, Berresh usually draws from both personalities to create a whole being.

Appearance: He is a pale man, and by all standards, he looks like a normal human being. Despite being bonded to a magical, body-snatching wraith from the underworld, he is of good enough physique, and appears to be about 18 years old. He walks around with an ever-present grin plastered to his beaming face, his eyes wild with excitement; as if he is trying to process as much input as he can before he loses his grip. When he walks, he strolls along without a care in the world. He wears a dark-gray cotton t-shirt that features a symbol of a bat surrounded by a yellow circle, blue canvas pants with an embroidered symbol that reads "Levi Strauss," and thong-sandals. Anyone who passed him on the street would not think twice before casting him down as a stimulant abuser.

History: Berresh's life began with a man--well, a boy named Jorin. Jorin's birthplace is unknown, though by the clothes he wears it is obvious he is not from any known region in Althanas. Jorin was, at one time, a remarkably unremarkable human being. At the age of 16 Jorin, the son of a former ranger, sought employment in a camp of woodsmen headed towards a newly sequestered expanse of private land used for illicit endeavors of the magical variety. They searched for this area for nearly two years. When his encampment arrived at the gates of the property, members of the party began falling unconscious--as if placed under some enchantment. Before Jorin could escape, he fell under the influence of the spell and was captured. When he awoke, it was explained to him that his comrades were fed to the monsters under his command, and that he tried to take Jorin's soul along with his party members. The process evidently failed, so the man decided to leave Jorin to "a Vetala," named Agni (a malevolent spirit that inhabits the bodies of the dead, and uses their life skills as well as magic for evil). The vetala observed Jorin for a long while before attempting to overtake him. Jorin rejected the vetala, and the battle of wills that took place gave birth to fusion process that melded the consciousnesses and the souls of the vetala and Jorin. This created the Human Corruption that Jorin lives as presently; the being that calls himself "Berresh". When Berresh left the property, he found he was a different world than the one he had left; he was now in the realm of Althanas--a world the vetala had tried to flee to after its attempted take-over failed. When Agni bound itself to Jorin and fled, the vetala took Jorin along for the ride. They were now bound as one; as Berresh. From there he wandered, unable to return to the dimension from which he came, but unconcerned. Though Jorin was technically gone, his curiosity remained. Berresh had an entirely new world to explore, and over the years the two beings seem to have settled nicely in the same skin. Berresh only just remembers fleeting images of his old lives, but that only makes things more interesting for him.

Skills:

Literate/Linguist: Can fluently read and speak Tradespeak, the only language he cared to learn.

Cloak and Dagger specialist: Being biologically immortal (due to his bondage to a spirit of the underworld), Berresh has learned to blend in with society as anything he needs to be.

struggling marksman: Berresh traditionally uses daggers to do what fighting he needs, and he has only recently taken up the bow as a secondary defensive outlet.

Finely-tuned Swordsmen: Using mostly daggers and short-swords throughout the years, he has refined his technique as a swordsmen to the point of expertise. He is no master, but he is proficient enough to take care of most situations.

Abilities:

Exceptional memory: While not supernatural, Berresh is capable of storing faces, voices, conversations and, scenery in the recesses of his mind--recalling them much later on. His memory is not infallible, however, and the amount of time that separates the event from recall the less familiar it will be.

Health regeneration (slow): Technically being biologically immortal, Berresh will heal physical wounds over time (a a minor wound in about 3-4 minutes, and moderate one in 15; anything more than that can't be repaired for now). This is not very strong, however, and he can still be slain if a fatal amount of damage is delivered in a short amount of time. The regenration process also causes him physical pain, equal to the damage that was dealt to him.

Magical ability (level 0): Simple light manipulation. An ability that will grow in strength as Berresh levels. At this stage, the extent of his talent with this ability is the ability to generate an intense light in a small space with the intentions of blinding adversaries.

Weaknesses/Flaws:

Susceptibility: Though having two sets of personality traits opens him up to different situations, it unfortunately makes him incredibly susceptible to debilitate, as anyone who would want to incapacitate him would simply need to present him with something that his conjoined consciousness cannot handle as one. The battle of wills that would ensue would leave him incapacitated; vulnerable to attack, capture, even control if the damage is severe enough. However, it would have to be a moral quandary or something that Jorin and Agni's personalities do not agree with.

Erratic: The clashing of two minds trying to assess a situation puts a guy on edge, you know? Some things, questions, situations, or problems may elicit a reaction anywhere from serene to irrationally suspicious. As stated in the personality field, it all depends (noted through the context clues of the dialogue/rhetoric, or straight up conscious recognition of individual personalities) on which frame of mind is stronger and in what context they present themselves.

Equipment: One bedroll, one oak bow, and two steel, silver-lined daggers. The only armor to speak of is a thick leather cuirass.

The only thing I need you to do is to better define Health regeneration. I'll allow you to regenerate a minor wound in about 3-4 minutes, moderate in 15, and anything more than that can't be repaired for now. Sounds fair?

Exactly what I had in mind; sounds very fair.

(I should also probably mention that the health regeneraion, while a useful quality, also causes him physical pain comparable to the wound he was inflicted. So: minor wound: minor pain upon regeneration, moderate wound = moderate pain, and so on).

Could you please include both of those bits information in the description of the ability (the restrictions I mentioned and the pain reaction that you mentioned)? Thanks.

All done.

Also, am I to assume that by your wording of "anything more than that can't be repaired for now" that the option of strengthening this ability (within reason) comes with leveling (perhaps, once every five levels? Each upgrade makes one level lower than its original)?

Indeed, you can enhance your abilities once you reach a new level, and acquire new ones to boot. You can do this each level you reach, but the increase generally needs to be gradual. For example, at level one I would most likely allow you to shorten the times needed to heal by a certain amount.

Anyways, you are approved. Thank you for your cooperation and welcome to Althanas.
