Name-Valarys Arachnid
Age-17
Race-Human
Gender-Male
Height-5 feet 10 inches
Weight-170 pounds
Hair Color-Red
Eye Color-Green
Appearance
-Valarys is of medium build, being as muscular as an average soldier and about as strong, he is fairly tall for well built for his age. He has a long nose, thick eyebrows, shallow cheeks, strong jaw, recessed eyes, and a low hairline. His eyes hold a sharpness to them, obviously keen but without the brightness of curiosity. His skin is a light tan color, smooth with youth but having the scars of childhood. His hair is a bright deep red that is cut close short but grows long between the infrequent cuts, sometimes reaching several inches in length. Because he doesn’t use a true shaving blade, there is almost always a hint of beard remaining, thought it doesn’t grow so fast as his hair.
For protection Valarys wears a variety of garments. He has a common deer-hide jerkin topped by his iron chain mail shirt, deer-hide knee length boots, linen breeches, iron elbow gauntlet (left hand), deer-hide glove (right hand), and linen cloak.
Weapons
-Spear: A 5ft. tall spear made with an oaken shaft and iron head of plain make without ornamentation. The head is simple with just a point, not even spreading into a bladed tip.
-Dirk: A 6in. blade with equally long handle made entirely of steel and leather wrapped, of plain make without ornamentation. The blade doesn’t have a hand-guard and goes straight into the blade, made from a single piece of metal and very sharp.
Armor
- Light Leather Jerkin: Simple, vest without collar or sleeves, slides on just like a shirt. It provides very little protection from weapons, very light weight.
-Chain Mail Shirt: Made of iron, common make, fairly heavy. The shirt covers the torso and the arms and down to a bit below the waist, offers good protection.
-Elbow Gauntlet: Made of iron, common make, medium weight. Made of iron bands attached to a leather glove over the finger-joints, on the palm and back of hand, and full circles around the wrist and arm reaching up the elbow. It provides good protection.
-Glove/Boots: Made of light leather, light weight, low protection. Glove reaches half-way to elbow, boots reach the knees.
Skills
-Polearm: Novice skill, can thrust and aim parry slow attacks, easily defeated in close range.
-Dagger: Amateur skill, can stab and maneuver quickly with precision, not up for real knife fighting, easily defeated by other weapons.
Abilities
-Tough Body: Valarys’s body is capable of digesting raw meat and many substances that would make other humans ill without arm. This doesn’t mean he is immune to poisons, but there is a better chance it won’t affect him if eaten. He is also more resistant to diseases.
Items
-Linen Cloak, linen breeches, bag of money, oilstone, rations.
History
-Valarys is the fourth son in the third line of the Arachnid line. In the Arachnid family there is the grandfather who is a well known merchant-lord who deals in all the nations across Althanas, not including Haidia, that possesses a tremendous amount of wealth. Unfortunately, he is such a miser that he has shunned his descendents and refuses to support them, making them all too eager for him to expire and to inherit the wealth. He had three sons and four daughters, the first son fathered three sons of his own, the second fathering one, and the third fathering four sons. All three families are bitter rivals that feud constantly, even going so far as attempted assassinations in order to move up the line to inheritance.
Valarys is no less cruel or greedy than the others, but he was last in line to receive money and knew better than to waste his life going after his grandfather’s money. All the families inevitably went into the family trade as merchants, all being raised from birth and quite successful, but Valarys wasn’t suited for it. He found himself more apt to fight but a life in the army wasn’t wealthy enough to attract him. Instead he turned to the life of crime, becoming a high-way bandit that preyed upon merchants. He started by going after merchants and caravans that his family or his cousins owned, it was especially easy with his intimate knowledge of their paths and schedules, but he was forced to look farther after excessive guards were hired to combat the constant and unfailing banditry.
First thing he did was find another group of bandits with which to travel though it wasn’t as rewarding as he initially expected. Each man got anything from whoever he killed, and then they diced on whatever was in the wagons. Being the youngest and least skilled member often meant he got to kill the driver or merchant and missed out on the good armor and weapons guards commonly wore. The few pieces he does have were from a smith they ambushed after which he had a luck streak, but was only fortunate enough to win one of the two gloves.
Now that he’s older, Valarys seeks out newer and richer areas with richer merchants, seeking out fellows to do a impromptu ambush whenever his travel funds run low, hoping to find some real friends with which to form a pillaging party and terrorize entire towns across the countryside.
