Anteni

I’ve revamped my character’s profile, as the last one was boring and empty; I got the green light via PM, for anyone concerned. New style, new information, have at it.
The bones
Name: Anteni Waterson
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Ethnicity: Rural Firewine river, Corone
Age: 19
Physique: Moderate build; strong, lean; 6’ 1” approx. 160 lbs.
Hair: Thick dirty blonde
Eyes: Dark brown, trace of green
The muscle
Appearance
Anteni has the roughened, toughened look of a young man accustomed to long days of landscaping and other manual labors; that is not to say, however, that he is built like a bear. He has a modest frame, wrapped by tan and weathered skin cooked by the southern Coronian sun. An unremarkable face sits upon broad shoulders; some find his countenance appealing, others unpleasant; there are no abnormalities or scars or missing features, just two lucid eyes resting placidly upon his face. At times, his expressions are wreathed by long streaks of hair and a ragged jaw line – he shaves when he feels like it, but he does enjoy a short crop of hair upon his head. As for an attire: never has he had the need to don a snazzy business suit or fancy dress concoction; rather, he enjoys loose, utilitarian, plainly-colored clothing, occasionally shrouded by a traveler’s cloak and hood.
Abilities
Combat
Weaponry
The young Coronian has trained with a variety of weapons, his body itself included, such that he can pick up most arms of standard craftsmanship and use them to some effect; that is, he is widely trained but is below the average skill with each weapon; foreign and exotic arms, such as the technologies of Alerar, are an entirely different matter. Anteni is able to wield a weapon and strike with it, but his stances can be awkward and his technique nonexistent. One handed or two: swords, axes, clubs, daggers, hammers, spears, halberds are within his limits; even some ranged weapons: a short or long bow, throwing knives, a standard crossbow. His current arm of choice: the sword, the legendary tool of heroes.
Armor
Anteni has only actually trained in light-to-medium armor and ordinary clothing; chain mails, heavy shields, and plated armor are not easy to afford, or even find, on the rural portions of the Firewine. The young man has tried on a variety of armors in his time, but more importantly, he has also used improvised weights to simulate training in heavier armors and shields; for example, sacks stuffed with rocks and dirt, or the river water as natural resistance. This, of course, means very little, since he has not truly used the armors in question; the training may come quickly to him, if he is ever offered to opportunity to learn. Back to lighter armors, or none at all; Anteni is able to utilize the advantages they offer, for he understands the principle of fluidity over solidity; he must be the waves upon the cliff, for he does not have the protection that would afford him the tolerance of earth. Still, as with his wide spectrum of weapons training, he has had little specialization in types of armor; Anteni is still of a below average skill no matter what weight or form of armor he dons.
Strategy
Some may take knowledge of combat as granted for all situations, but to fight in a single-opponent duel and to fight on an open battlefield are very different scenarios. Anteni has only trained in one-on-one combat and small skirmishes, be he alone or in a group. The Coronian has taken slowly to fighting alone against several opponents at once; he does not feel the same pressure upon his focus when he takes on a single foe, or when he is accompanied by a companion, or several. He believes this is due to his lack of “true” technique, of grace, in his knowledge of weaponry. When it comes to extraordinary scenarios, he has had basically no training, for his father died before it could be touched upon; by “extraordinary,” the event could involve one being temporarily blinded or deafened, by a curse perhaps, or being severely handicapped due to a particular blow or illness.
Support
Healing
Every good warrior knows the basics of care and survival in the event of a wound. Taught by his father and by the medics of the Serenti tournaments, Anteni knows how to clean large cuts and stitch them shut, to bandage lesser wounds, and to create makeshift slings and crutches in case of broken bones.
Innate
Fortitude
Anteni is an individual with a strong will and stamina. Many years of landscaping, fishing, and training have created a well of endurance; lesser illnesses and poisons, as well as fatigue, have a difficult time finding a foothold in his body, but his strength is deeper than his physical self. His mother and father created in him a character of principles and ethics, to which he holds a strong sense of duty. If Anteni sets his mind to something, his actions are usually rooted to an honest conviction; this being the case, persuading him to do otherwise will likely be a task in vain. He has faintly sensed when the will of another attempts to exert itself upon his own, be it through spells or speech; magic weavers that attempt to influence thought and feeling find themselves working just a little bit harder on Anteni.
Equipment
Weapons
Steel sword
An heirloom of his father; the blade is approximately three and a half feet long, and it is double-edged. The handle is gripped most comfortably with one hand, but both hands fit with relative ease for poise and augmenting an attack. A standard weapon, nothing more.
Armor
Studded leather cuirass
Also an heirloom; the leather is crafted like a tank-top, in that it allows complete freedom of the shoulders and arms. Steel studs form columns from the shoulders and neck to his waist; below the waist, four rectangular pieces of leather drape down to protect his front and back thighs; studs outline each piece. They are fashioned as to allow him to run and crouch without hindrance.
Leather gloves
Offers light protection, adorned with a small steel plate crafted onto the back of each hand.
Leather boots
Standard leather boots.
Leather-bound shield
During Anteni’s annual journey to Serenti, he won this in a junior contest. Beneath the stitched and bolted leathers, warped wood has been shaped and reinforced with steel bands to form a curved oval. Approximately ten pounds, the shield is only about a foot and a half in width and two feet in length. He hardly relies on it in combat, but it can prove useful even as a secondary weapon.
Other
Rations, water canteen, flask of available alcohol
Old and worn traveler’s cloak, hooded; faded green in color
Belt pouch of various medical supplies
The soul
Personality
One with a more voluminous mind may consider Anteni to be just one more pinhead grunt, a drop in the ocean of “ignorant rabble;” know, though, that this young man is no one’s fool. In a world of competition, lies, and trickery, he applies skepticism to all his senses; seeing is not always believing in a realm of magicks. Such a worldview – and the death of his mother – have led him, of course, to the false comfort of cynicism; however, as he has grown and learnt, a developing sense of idealism has taken root in his philosophies. He is an individual of ethics, and as such, these ideologies clash once in a while within his mind and heart. Rooted within this moral tug-of-war, the challenge of humility versus arrogance, the other versus the self, also presents itself in Anteni’s decisions.
The young Coronian is a lover of lore, history, literature, and paradoxically: combat. His mother instilled in him a desire for the “high” arts; his father, a passion for the art of battle. The direction of his profession as a fighter is also steered by his moral compass; shall he accept employment by the highest bidder, or shall he search for a cause with more gratification than material goods? As his idealism matures and develops, the answer is becoming increasingly clear. Cynicism still lurks beneath, though, and manifests most obviously when he sates an addiction to alcohol.
History
Nineteen years ago, approximately CP 1782 according to the Elves, a small house upon the Firewine river was graced with a baby boy. Perhaps it was the way the stars were aligned, or the curse of a witch or blessing of a god: there was something peculiar about this child, something that suggested a deep and hidden power…
Not really. In truth, Jerred and Lila Waterson of Corone, of a bloodline of little consequence, had just had their fifth boy, a disappointment for the mother and celebration for the father. Anteni, they named him; his four other brothers were much older and all off buildings ships or working in one city or another. Theirs was a simple household; Jerred enjoyed fishing on the Firewine and tending the crops, while Lila managed the house and found peace in her garden; both practiced the common Coronian polytheism, though Lila had an interest in foreign belief systems as well, which Anteni inherited. Less than a decade before Anteni’s birth, they had been settled just outside of Gisela – he was a city patrolman, she was a tutor and bookkeeper. After feeling they had “lost” all four sons to the material ambition and vice of the “corrupting” urban environment, the parents collected their belongings and found a nice place to live on the Firewine.
With the aforementioned sentiments, both mother and father of Anteni secretly felt that their newborn boy could be raised the way they each saw fit. To his mother, Anteni would become a great scholar, a master of history and philosophy and principles—to his father, Anteni would become an invincible warrior, a man of justice with an unflinching will. In fact, their young boy developed an insatiable curiosity for lore and a burning dream to become a glorious warrior. Jerred and Lila had something of a playful competition, but they were hardly overbearing – instead, they simply provided guidance, a nudge in the direction that they each thought correct. Instead of reading, his father would say, why not help me chop some fire wood and spar in the field? Instead of exercising, his mother would say, why not learn about the great Root Walker or the ancient Elvish Bladesingers?
Every year, Jerred would take Anteni to Serenti to watch the combatants; due to some old friends of Jerred, the father and son frequently met and conversed with fighters from all over Corone and the mainland of Althanas. Not only humans, but Elves, Dwarves, Centaurs, and so on. The only year that the two missed was that of Lila’s death; Anteni was just about to become a teenager when a winter-borne illness seized her. Jerred tried all he could, but convincing the young boy to do much of anything was in vain that year. The shackles of grief loosened with time, though, and soon the boy continued to find books and to learn, and the father and son resumed their annual trip to Serenti, and they even visited Gisela a few times to witness the illusory battles of great commanders.
During his eighteenth winter, Anteni endured his father’s death as well. Having been through such trauma once before, and having matured several years, the Coronian took the event in stride as best he could. He remained in the small cabin for a year, living in relative solitude, exercising his mind and body, enjoying his time on the Firewine. Then, one spring morning, he felt it: the urge to leave, to truly begin life as an individual with a dream. He could not fathom letting the house rot on the banks of the river, so he gathered some essentials, such as his father’s sword and armor, and torched the cabin. The young man watched the blaze for a while, reminiscing, reflecting; soon enough, he began his journey north to Concordia forest, to Underwood, and from there, to Radasanth.
