Name: Kyren Fox
Age: 18
Race: Human x Dragon Halfbreed
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Gold
Height: 5’9’’
Weight: On the lean side
*Occupation: ex-slave // Adventurer
*Personality:
Kyren is still young and can be easily influenced by others. He has a lot of pride in ‘who he is’ figuring he best be proud of himself as apparently no one else is going to acknowledge him as worth anything. Feeling there is a lot of life he’s missed getting to see so far he’s curious to a great number of things and eager to learn, on the other hand he is also wary of ‘suspicious looking’ people. Suspicious people often take the form of dark elves, though his imagination is not limited only to race.
Appearance:
At first glance from a distance Kyren appears to be your common run-of-the-mill overly thin human street teenager. However, as one approaches a few distinctions can be noted as long as the observer is paying at least some attention to detail. His eyes are a bit wide-set with a simple oval shape but the strange part is their color. The irises are a bright golden color that seems to shine in the dark. For those paying extreme attention to detail it might also be noticed on occasional flash of movement sideways across the eyes which are caused by the nictitating membrane in his eyes. The nose is a bit petite and fine boned which seems to work well considering the small, narrow lips underneath it. In his mouth his first few teeth are all slightly serrated but the serrations are small enough to go unnoticed unless closely studied. His canines are somewhat thinner than his other teeth and pointed at the end, rather like one would expect a dragons canines might appear, only smaller. His chin is smooth and appears well-defined by bone structure. Raven black hair, parted in the middle with a few bangs that droop over his forehead, goes back behind the head to flow around the ears and back behind the head to stop about the base of his neck. Getting a look behind the ears one would find a few tiny pale scales ranging in color from dull green to brown-green, however the scales are kept well concealed most the time with the hair.
Kyren looks as if he could stand to gain a few pounds, but otherwise on simple glance it seems normal enough. However, take off his shirt and there are several more things that stick out. About two inches above both his elbows a dark coal black looking claw protrudes out of his skin stopping right next to where his elbow starts. This claw works the same as his fingernails in staying pretty much right up next to the skin without digging into it and appears to be about half an inch thick in density. Along his back, following the curve of his spine is a line of dull green and greenish-brown scales that start at the base of the neck and stop at the end of the tail bone. Each scale is similar in size to a large drop of rain. The young man’s skin tone is a light brown, which seems to merge well into the scales that are of a greenish-brown color.
Kyren tends to wear shirts with long sleeves that go past his elbows to try and hide the proof of his not being human, so even on warm days most likely he will be wearing long sleeves and his favorite color seems to be earth tones. His pants appear to have once been black though are somewhat dulled a dark grey from ware and fading.
History:
Kyren’s father was a human who had spent two years of his life enslaved to a dark-elf before he’d had enough and taken a chance on running away. Fleeing the land of Alerar, through the mountains and to the elven land of Raiaera he sought to make a new life for himself. When the man had that his owner had paid some men to come search for him he grew fearful and risked hiding a few miles inside of the Red Forest. Through a mixture of luck, skills, and a good inner sense he spent a good four days alive in the forest before he got the attention of a creature he would never have dared seek out. A dragon that dwelt in the forest was amused at seeing a human had lasted so long in the forest and decided to get a closer look at the human. To be honest, she had only recently ate a rather larger meal and expected it would be another week or so before she was hungry. She was also in heat and the magical creature was a bit less particular over what she mated with at such a time. The two met, and were both surprised by the intelligence the other showed. The man didn’t realize for quite a while that he had met up with a dragon as she appeared to him in human form, though he knew something must be up as he hadn’t met any other human wandering about the forest as casually as this woman appeared to be doing. Still, he was lonely and hadn’t seen a friendly face in quite a while and so he gave in to her charms.
Three months later a clutch of eggs is formed and another two months later three of the seven eggs hatch. The mother dragon, waited in vain for the other eggs to hatch but it never happened. Two of the babies looked like her for the most part, small dragons with rich green scales, lighter along the belly and neck and darker around the rest of the body. They had coal black claws both on their feet, and right above the elbows. Spines jutted out of their cheek bones and down their spinal column. The last of the three however looked far more like the father, which was a rather unwanted surprise on the mother. A tiny human body with light brown skin and only a few scales along the back and behind the ears. It had golden eyes but overall it was a complete disappointment. However, with four eggs that didn’t even hatch a mothers instinct to keep her young alive had her struggle to keep this weaker child alive. While the other babies were able to eat directly from a corpse of food she brought to them this little weak human looking baby needed her to chew up his food into a mush first so that it was easier for him to digest.
Motherly instincts lasted for about six months before she started to grow more frustrated with a creature that was apparently too weak to survive on its own where the other little dragons were completely self-sufficient. True his two siblings were still far smaller than their mother, each only being about six feet in length where as she was a good twenty five feet but they were still fully capable of defending themselves and hunting. Yet this human baby, whom she had given the name Kyrentalas, appeared to be no larger than one that was a year old and was still completely defenseless. Instincts urged her to protect the young up to this point but now she was getting restless and ready to be done with the kids. She waited another two weeks after the two proper dragon babies left and then decided she’d had enough. She took that fake human form of hers and went to find the man that had helped her create the baby.
Kyren’s father, Kalen, had long since left the depths of the forest, residing in one of the elven cities along its outskirts. It only took her a few days to find the human in the elven city at which point she handed him the child with the short explanation of “this is yours, keep it or don’t” and left. Needless to say Kyren’s father was rather shocked. He tried to follow the lady who he had originally met in the forest but somehow managed to lose sight of her and then found himself looking at the baby in his arms wondering what to do. For two days he kept to himself inwardly debating the chances the child was his, especially as he saw some of the rather unnatural details of the child but in the end he accepted the truth of what had happened. He had known deep down the lady couldn’t have been a normal human and this was his proof, horrifying as it was.
For three years Kyren had what could be called a normal life. He grew faster than a human child, so that at the age of three he appeared to be about six. Kalen had joined the military, gladly serving to protect a country that had so far kept him safe from his old maser in Alerar. Kyren joined the school system and accepted by the other kids for a while but most were drawn away from him with time as the parents weren’t trusting of him as they realized he was a half-blood of some creature of the forest. It was whispered that since the forest had been cursed with evil it was quite possible that the boy also would show evil tendencies as he aged. Kalen didn’t believe this possible after raising the boy but it wasn’t something easy to prove, not when he as a human was already the minority race and his half dragon son was even more rare.
Kalen had been a good member of the community, working hard in the military and offering his services to assist wherever he saw a need he could meet. A few of the parents of the children got together in private to discuss their concerns over Kyren being around their children. The school system wasn’t willing to kick him out and they had nothing they could bring up against Kalen. The man never did anything wrong! At least not wrong enough to kick his child out of school, no one was perfect. One of the parents had learned through a rumor of his past as a slave to a dark elf in Alerar and after some talk agreed to see if they could learn the name of his original master. Two months later they had a name and sent a message to the owner saying they wanted him to come collect his slave and his slave’s child.
It was well over a month later that Kalen had taken Kyren for a walk along the forests edge, holding the boys small hand and telling him about some of the local wildlife that he found his old master blocking his path. Next to his master with a rather stalwart looking dwarf with numerous scars along his arms and more than one gray hair in his beard. No one else was around and while Kalen tried first talking and then fighting for his freedom both Kalen and son were captured. They were both taken to Alerar and while Kalen was put to work in the mines the small boy was put to work in the house and helping out at the forge. Kalen was allowed to see Kyren twice a week so long as he behaved himself in the mines.
Kyren was trained to help fetch things around the house, but mostly this was just to get him in the habit of behaving. He did try to be defiant at first, and the first two beatings brought further defiance but after a third beating he quieted for a while. Once he seemed to know his place he was taught how to care for the forge, keeping it at the right temperature and making sure the work area stayed clean. He continued to age quickly so that only a year later he appeared to be about eight, though in truth he was now four. He started getting to sometimes take messages back and forth for his master. He was still seeing Kalen twice a week most the time and his father was starting to make it a habit to tell the boy on each visit to try and escape if he could. He wanted Kyren to be free even if it wasn’t with him. However he also warned the boy to be careful and wait for a good opening, that one was sure to come at some point. He told the boy to run back to their home and tell his father’s friends in the military what had happened. Kalen truly had never guessed they had been betrayed by parents of the kids at the school and was confident his friends in the military would help his son.
Kyren tried running a few months later that year. He got lost however and was found before the end of the day. The beating was harsh, leaving him with numerous bruises and even a few cracked ribs. He was given a few days to rest quietly before he was expected to go back to working for his master and he went two months without being allowed to see his father. He was better behaved for several years after this, but there was more than once in his childhood that he tried fleeing. He also started thieving around the time, feeling little guilt of stealing from someone who holds you in slavery against your will, and as time went on any thoughts of stealing being morally wrong for the general public faded. Unfortunately to become a good thief practice makes perfect and he did caught stealing a few times. It always hurt when he got caught so he tried to be a fast learner. The beatings for doing wrong just got worse, till at age 11 his master had both him and his father beat for his trying to escape. Kyren was warned if he tried to run away again Kalen would be killed. His master explained that Kalen was growing older and was less effective worker than he had once been so it wouldn’t be too much of a loss. Kyren wasn’t positive if he was telling the truth or not, but he believed the threat enough that six years passed before he decided to run again.
His plan was better this time as he’d waited for a chance to escape and take his father with him. Having behaved himself for so many years no one thought twice of his coming and going places, he was a well broken and trained slave as far as all were concerned. So it was an easy enough thing to roam the mines for a bit after delivering a message to a dwarf, just using an excuse he was waiting a reply from another dwarf when anyone asked. He found his father, who had aged a lot through all the work in the mines but he was still alive and seemed relatively fit and whole. Kyren told the foreman he was taking his father to the master’s house for a meeting and just walked out with him. The foreman did check with the master but in a lazy fashion having already assumed that the boy’s words were true, which gave Kalen and Kyren a good hour start before anyone was chasing after them.
As they fled it was discussed over where to go. Kalen still wanted to return back to his last home in the elven city near the Red Forest. Kalen even suggested they could seek out Kyren’s mother so he could meet her and learn more of his heritage. Kyren had no real desire to go back to the elven city, not that he had hated it or felt any strong animosity but he also knew he had no real friends to return too there, especially not after all these years. Kalen pointed out that perhaps their odds would be better if they split up. Most likely their master would be asking people if they had seen the two running off together and they would be less noticed if alone, and even if they were going in different locations would double their odds that one of them would get away. Kalen imagined his trail would be the most likely one to follow as it was probably where they would expect him to flee and that would give his son a better chance. In the end Kalen went east and Kyren went north to Salvar.
Kyren made up a new last name for himself, Fox. He figured a fox was sly creature and that would work for him but most importantly it wasn’t his father’s name and was one less way he would be connected to the person his master was looking for. He travelled for months, living off of whatever food he could steal. He tried hunting a few times but with no real experience or knowledge found himself a complete failure at it. At points when he was extremly hungry and no food around he ate scraps, both in the wild such as a dead squirrel corpse or in the city trash cans. They weren’t the tastiest meals around but he found he had no problem digesting them.
Skills:
Adept thief: picking pockets or stealing from a store
Good sneak: Learned how to walk quietly to not get noticed at the wrong moments by an angry master
Spy: Good at hiding in shadows and keeping quiet to overhear other peoples conversations
Novice Brawler: He got a few tips from his father years ago on how to fight with his fists but more important he knows how to take a hit and can ignore minor pain and fight through it so long as his body lets him
Can speak in High-elf and can both write and speak in dark elf and tradespeak. His Alerar master didn’t want his slave to seem to uneducated and so he also has some basic math skills though nothing overly advanced.
Abilities:
Saliva: One of the few things he got from his mother is saliva with a paralyzing venom in it. The venom numbs any area of the body it contacts when it gets into the blood stream. The area it affects is on average about three inch radius, or six inch diameter. The numbing effect will last for about three hours on the average human, give or take for size or personal immunity.
Strong Immune System: Another trait he got from his dragon blood is an incredibly strong immune system. He was born a creature of a forest that is loaded with poisonous and venomous creatures, to which he himself can even claim to an extent. Thus his immune system protects him against most poisons, as well as most bacteria’s, or fungi’s or other things that might normally not do well in the digestive system.
Excellent Night Vision: No, he can’t see if there is absolutely no light. However as long as there is a sliver of light for his eyes to pick up on he can see quite well.
(Note: he has no idea he has venom in his saliva…after all he’s never actually bit anyone before. He also doesn’t realize quite how good his immune system is. If he ever see’s someone get sick off of something he’s shared a meal with…then he’ll learn.)
Equipment: It is not necessary to list all traveling necessities, but if you have items unique to your character, you should describe them under this category. Remember that you will be able to purchase more equipment for your character in our market forum, the Bazaar.
No special equipment right now. He’s travelling light while looking for where he wants to settle down to live.
