Name: Tornac Nehriss
Age: 24
Race: Human
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Grey
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 155 lbs
Occupation: Poet/historian

Appearance: Tornac has night-black hair falling down to his shoulders, which he keeps carefully groomed and oiled every day. He has large, wide-set grey eyes, a pointed nose, a weak chin, and high, angular cheekbones. His skin is smooth and milky from spending so much of his life indoors, but he has some scars from his time in the army. This military training has also given him a well-muscled body. He also has a mechanical prosthetic right leg, which is made of black steel. He can walk normally with it, despite it feeling oddly heavy, but the gears and pipes inside it creak and hiss whenever he walks, and it occasionally lets out small amounts of steam. His stance conveys an easy self-confidence, but his general bearing is of someone who is not used to the real world.

History:

Tornac was born in Serenti, and raised in an atmosphere of wealth and sumptuousness. House Nehriss was an old noble house of Tylmerande, who had made their fortune in the pearl-diving business, and become one of the most prominent human families in the Tylmerande pearl trade. However, perhaps the greatest of them all was Sir Ardem Nehriss, a great knight who lived around 200 years ago. Sir Ardem was said to have spoken with gods, fought with terrifying creatures from beyond the fabric of reality, and bedded some of the most beautiful women who ever lived and left them with child. Tornac grew up idolising his ancestor, and memorised all the old poems and stories. He soon learned to play the fiddle, and began to compose his own songs.

However, the Corone War was soon to change things. House Nehriss supported the Empire in the war, feeling that the Republic would punish the old noble houses and take away many of their organs of power. Tornac, having already been trained in sword, was sent into battle. He welcomed this opportunity, as he had ambitions towards writing a history of the Corone War by being intimately involved in it. However, he found the reality of life in the military harsh, due to his sheltered upbringing. He hated the awful food and drink, he hated the bullying army officers, he hated the brutal exercises and drills, he hated being surrounded by death every day. But most of all, he hated the fact that he saw no heroes like the ones in the old tales. Luckily, his time in the army would not last long.

During the Imperial takeover of Underwood, Tornac took a spear through the right leg from a Corone Ranger, and had to be taken away for medical treatment. The wound became infected, and the surgeons had to amputate his leg. He was given a mechanical prosthetic from Alerar as a replacement, but he had to be discharged from the army in order to recover. Tornac began to reflect on the fact that, despite what the old stories said, war was a brutal business. He had killed men, and almost been killed himself, and there were no glorious heroics to be found. Attempting to avoid this truth, he once again took refuge in the old tales of heroes and monsters, and became dedicated to the study of them in order to shelter himself from the real world. And so it was that Tornac set off on a journey, hoping to find himself and to compose his greatest work - "The Lay of Sir Ardem Nehriss", an epic narrative encompassing the entire life of his legendary ancestor. His ultimate dream is to find Rudhnaur, Ardem's legendary sword that was said to absorb the souls of everyone he killed with it.

Skills and abilities: Tornac has no magical abilities. However, he is somewhat skilled with a sword due to his time in the army - not exceptionally so, but enough that he can defend himself. He also has some small ability with a bow, but has not used it in some time. His prosthetic leg has also made him able to run 1.5x faster than a normal human, and jump 1.5x higher and further. However, he has to perform rigorous maintenance on it every day, cleaning and oiling it before re-assembling it, which can take a long time.

Equipment: Tornac's chosen instrument is the fiddle, and his is a particularly fine one, made of rosewood and elaborately painted with dragons. He also carries around a large, blank tome, several quill pens and ink, in order to write down his poems and record his experiences. He also carries around his incomplete history of the Corone War, which he plans to revise some day to reflect his experience. His sword - a new one, which he had specially commissioned for his journey - is made of steel, enamelled blue, and has a Tylmerande pearl set in the hilt. He also wears a light shirt of ring mail and a steel helm with a nose guard.
