Sei Orlouge stood beside the Thayne Hromagh, the one known as ‘The Bull God’ to most. The deity had recently asked three favors of Sei, promising a blessing and protection for the Ixian Knights if the mute had performed his tasks admirably. It was for this reason that the Mystic found himself in the desert town of Fallien. The hot sun was beating down on him, forcing him to use one of his battle fans to cool himself.

Hromagh had asked Sei to start a tournament outside of the large walls of Fallien's primary town. The rules of the tournament were simple; the representatives for the Ixian Knights would keep fighting until they beat all other opponents, found themselves sullied by defeat, or managed to draw an audience out of the reclusive Fallien people.

Honestly, Sei was counting on the first two options way more than he was relying on the third. The people of Fallien were hermits, for all intents and purposes. Years of harpy attacks had caused the once docile people to lock themselves in a fortress town, and Sei’s recent war in Corone had caused the suspicious Fallien council to stop accepting trades from any other country. It seemed as though the failed war for Corone’s independence had affected more than just Corone itself.

Sei looked at the ‘arena’ if one could call it that. About two miles out of the way, several tents had been made for all the competitors. There were dozens, perhaps even a hundred of the makeshift homes. It seemed that Hromagh had pulled out all of the stops to make this a show nobody would easily forget.

Sei, not being one to just rely on one person, had actually entered several Ixian Knights representatives in this contest. Hromagh did not seem to mind this, as it prolonged the fights he enjoyed watching so. Sei had to wrestle a ‘no killing’ clause from the Thayne, but the Crow finally conceded the concept to the Butterfly. Now the two were sitting (or standing, in Sei’s case) on a tower at least a mile high into the air. Sitting on a throne of animal skulls was Hromagh, and Sei stood at his side with a simple wooden chair behind him.

He looked at the sand, at the way his vision altered when he focused on the heat emanating off of the soil. There was hardly anything around to use as an environmental weapon, though simply running ones skin into the hot sand might work to cause a little bit of pain. Sei had seen this as an opportunity not only to prove that the Ixian Knights were worthy of Hromagh’s blessing, but to also prove the merit of some of his newest recruits, people who had signed up once they had realized what the Ixian Knights were capable of.

This would be the tale of one of those recruits…

Yiri was meditating inside his tent, set up by the Knights in order to comfort him for the next few days. He was quoting the laws the assassins live by in his mind. Nothing is true, everything is permitted. He thought to himself. Stay your blade from the flesh of an innocent. Hide in plain sight. Never compromise the Brotherhood. The Assassins seek to promote peace, but commit murder. The Assassins seek to open the minds of men, but require obedience to rules. The Assassins seek to reveal the danger of blind faith, yet practice it themselves. Yiri opened his eyes, stood up, and began scanning the 'arena' for anything to help him in the tourney.

In the valley of the land ahead of him he hadn't seen anything of use, other than a few rock and sturdy trees there was nothing of help to him. Yiri slowly scanned the area from right to left. as he reached the edge of where he was suggested to stay sort of like the boundaries he saw a huge boulder. Hmm, that big boulder over there, that could be of use to me. He thought to himself, then scanned back to the left side of the arena, seeing what looked to be a indent in the cliff I should let the others know about my observations, it could be the key to our success.

Yiri turned back into the tent and began to speak, "I have made a few observations of the 'arena', there is a huge boulder just inside the 'boundaries'. I plan on using this for a surprise attack against any other unlucky member of the tourney. there are a few trees and other rocks, but i see no use for them. On the other side of the 'arena there is an indent, almost like a cave in the cliff, that could also be useful for us." he then looked over to Steppenwolf Orlouge, awaiting his response.

I looked to this man with a raised eyebrow, curious about how he was planning to use a boulder to his advantage in a one on one fight. Obviously, his opponent’s would know he would be hiding in the one good hiding spot within the fighting area, so then what could he have been sugg---

Oh….Oh I get it now. The kid, this new guy Sei had decided to ‘try out’ for the knights, he was planning on helping the rest of us advance by sabotaging our opponents. Theoretically, it was a good strategy; get your enemy near the boulder, Yiri gives em a few hits, disorients them, and then the respective Ixian Knight could finish off their foe. Morally, however, it went against everything the Ixian Knights stood for, and reminded be deeply of the serial killer Cassandra Remi and her underhanded tactics.

“Your plan has merit,” I said, my body still sitting as I looked to the eager young recruit, “but I don’t think Hromagh will like it very much if we’re double-teaming our opponents. This man is a Thayne, after all, so he’d probably be able to tell when we’re cheating and when we’re not.” I stood, giving a smile to the trainee, even pressing my large hand to his hair to ruffle up the dark brown strands.

“I think the best strategy will be to just go out there and do your best. If you lose, we still have several more people on our side attempting to win for us. So what’s the worst that could happen?” I patted the younger man on the back, sending him stumbling out of the tent and into the makeshift arena, just around the time that his name was called to fight.

“Good luck kid!” I shouted, a grin plastered across my features.
