(Solo unless I get interest in this one!!!)

Elthas was a patient man.

Though his job often entailed that he make rash actions and adapted on the fly, Elthas still prided himself on his patience. Patient people made less mistakes and were more careful about routine, practiced actions, than a more careless idiot. Elthas was dressed in standard issue attire for a member of The Syndicate. It was a traditional, finely woven suit worn elegantly at all times when on duty. The Syndicate operatives were all dashing fellows and even when doing naughty things, they were dashing.

Elthas was a handsome Elf insofar as that went, but most Elves were handsome. He was not the cream of the crop, but he could bed most tavern wenches if he so chose. He wore his hair in a beautifully maintained fashion, and it was a green, and elegant shine. Elthas was a handsome devil to say the least, and he owed a debt to The Syndicate. The more accurate story though was that The Syndicate owed a debt to him. If not for his intervention the night he saved that crazy old man...

Elthas did not think about that at that precise moment.

What he did think about was the current job at hand. The man was walking a few paces directly in front of him on a crowded street. Elthas was hired to capture the man in broad daylight, in front of many people. He wasn't comfortable acting in the daylight hours, but he was promised riches upon completion of the job. And so, Elthas had prepared for over a month scouting out the target and learning his day to day activities. Once he had learned his target's exact routine, he picked the precise time of day critical to the job at hand.

Elthas's cloak swished against the stone ground as he walked behind the target, several feet behind him as a matter fact so it wouldn't appear as if Elthas was deliberately following the man. Elthas wore a calm expression on his face, and he had gone over the plan a million times prior to that actual moment. The only contingency: Your face MUST be seen to the public. Elthas worked in concealment, and under carefully planned strategies, he didn't like contingencies of any sort. That tended to ruin the execution of an otherwise flawless plan.

Once the target stepped out onto the market street of Radasanth's market district, Elthas picked up his speed. Feeling his heart begin to race, Elthas knew the moment was now upon him. The gathered crowd began to look upon the target as made his way to one of the many stalls on the street. Elthas pitied the man, he was simply just at the wrong place, and at the wrong time. Elthas's boots made no sound, practiced and true were his steps, and he was already drawing his daggers. Even as the man proceeded to order his meal and pay for it, Elthas leaped elegantly through the air.

It was a skillful leap, Elthas covered the necessary distance between himself and the target. Once Elthas landed, several people screamed in terror and shock. Elthas did not kill the man, he was given explicit orders against any disintegration. Elthas did not regret the fact that he couldn't kill the man, but the capture had to go smoothly. The man was a known felon in Radasanth, and he was simply out of luck. When someone owed The Syndicate a favour, The Syndicate always collected.

Cold metal touched the back of the man's neck.

The blade seemed to vibrate merely a few centimeters away from the skin of the man.

A sweat drop swelled directly in front of Elthas's elegant dagger.

"Who the fuck are you?" Came the immediate response.

"Who I am does not matter, as who I work for." Elthas said.

"Who you work...for?!" The man asked. Then it all seemed to dawn on him all at once. "Y-you're The Syndicate Operative?"

"Correct." Elthas gave it to the man, most folk never figure out his identity until after the fact. "I am here to turn you in to my superiors. You owe a debt, and the hour has come to pay up. You can either come quietly, or make a loud noise. The choice is yours."

The man sighed. "I suppose there's no way that I can buy you out at this point huh?" The man attempted to bargain with Elthas. "I actually have the money for your superiors. And much more than that..."

Elthas laughed. "You don't get this." Elthas continued, his eyes were darting from side to side quickly as soldiers began to arrive from further down the street. Time was running out and anymore hold ups could ruin the operation. "You owe my superiors a debt, and the hour has come for you to pay it. Like it or not, you're coming with me."

"I don't think so." The man said. "Guards! Syndicate Operative!" But it was already too late. Even as the man began to move to draw some sort of a weapon, Elthas was prepared.

Practiced and true, patience and discipline. Elthas was ready. He could not kill the man, but that didn't mean he couldn't maim him. Elthas skillfully moved in a downward motion with his dagger, a small cut left where the blade had almost touched the man's neck. A single droplet of blood left a long trail downward as Elthas struck in a curving slash, down towards the back of the man's knee. Once he had elegantly moved, he stabbed his blade through the back of the man's left knee, and then danced backwards and away from the man. Elthas was quick on his feet. He looked at the man. The fellow screamed when he was stabbed, and fell down to one knee, turning to face his assailant for the first time.

"Elf!?" The man said incredulously.

"Death." Elthas responded. Still moving, Elthas knew he had to be quick to get the job done. The guards were closing in by that time.

One of Elthas's daggers was already covered in streaking blood. Then came the shout from the guard.

"Yosef Terrentius." The guards revealed the man's name, the target. "You are under arrest."

That triggered the next part of Elthas's story.

As Elthas danced around Yosef, he knew he had to be quick. Quicker than the guards could react. His employer was quite specific that there had to be witnesses and the act had to be done in broad daylight. Elthas was already preparing the trick he knew when Yosef drew a weapon. It was a broadsword of some sort, likely Coronian in make and quality. There were no Elven markings on the sword, so Elthas assumed it was not enchanted in any way. So he danced, moved quickly, and rotated his daggers as he did that. Elthas lashed out with lightning like reflexes towards Yosef's hands, and stabbed his dagger in the man's hand, he pulled it out.

"What the fuck are you doing!?" Yosef called out.

"Debilitating strikes. I was told I couldn't kill you outright, and now this dance is coming to a close." Elthas made a promise to that crazy old man from The Syndicate to make certain he always kept true to a Syndicate contract. And that he had, this whole time, The Syndicate's code had kept Elthas alive and prosperous. Once Elthas had cut the man several more times, he was ready. He began the procedure to summon The Binding, and tied Yosef up like the pig he was. "You owe The Syndicate a debt." Elthas said. "It's time to pay up." Elthas danced around the man and effectively tied him up, the rope was magical and would seal any abilities that the man would be able to use against Elthas in an attempt to escape. Elthas finally maneuvered behind Yosef, and slammed the fellow down against the floor. "You are Syndicate property now." Elthas did this whole deed in a matter of mere moments. Right in front of the guard's astonished faces.

"You, how did you do that?!" One of the guards asked incredulously.

"Family secrets, now buzz off. You lot are too fat for your own clothing. You are shaming your Clans by even attempting to interrupt Syndicate business." Elthas said coldly. He grabbed Yosef's hair, after putting his daggers away, and made him stand up. "Make yourselves useful and take that sword." Elthas said as he walked off with the tied up Yosef, protesting the whole time.

***

Holding Yosef with the rope made it appear as a master keeping a pet dog on a sturdy leash. It had been roughly an hour since Elthas had captured Yosef as his contract had stated. Elthas now waited in the designated Syndicate holding zone, after he'd gagged and blindfolded Yosef. Elthas grinned every time that Yosef attempted to protest in grumbles. Several individuals that Elthas had never seen before awaited Yosef and were talking amongst themselves as to what exactly they should do with the captured fellow. That thought made Elthas's grin even wider.

"Bring him hither." One of he black-clad fellows ordered. Elthas did so, for he was still bound by Syndicate contract. "Yosef Terrentius." The man spoke. "It has been a long time has it not?" Elthas could have sworn he felt the other man shaking with fear thanks to the bindings. He wondered if Yosef recognized the man's voice from some past dealings. "You may remove his blindfold and gag." The black-clad fellow ordered. Elthas, of course, did so.

"Yes it has, Adrian." Yosef said, his lips trembling in fear. "I thought I had managed to escape you for the last time." Yosef said. He continued. "You have no right to do this!" That was the first time that Elthas had actually seen Yosef angry.

"Contrary to what you may believe..." The man named Adrian began. "...We have every right to do this." Adrian removed a document from his packs and tossed it towards Yosef's feet. Elthas was unmoved by any of the events unfolding before. "Take a look at that seal." Elthas saw it just then: pure fear. Whoever Adrian was, had made Yosef frightened beyond any rational fear.

"H-how...'Tis the Terrentius House Seal!?" Yosef yelled.

"Let her speak." Adrian suddenly commanded to the other black-clad individuals.

A handsome woman, dressed in fine attire, appeared from out of the shadows before them all. Elthas eyed this woman quite carefully. "Good evening, Yosef."

"Hylda!" Yosef called out her name, and Elthas could have sworn he saw the woman smile cruelly.

"I have waited for this exact moment, Yosef." Hylda said. "You have stolen from my family's estate. The Terrentius estate for the last time. You were family to me once, but once we found out about your secret dealings, I began to plot and scheme without you being aware of it. I put the hit out on you over a year ago, and The Syndicate responded. It was this man, Adrian Voltrez, who set the event up. The Syndicate Operative was hired because he was the best of his caliber." Hylda continued. "I know I won't get my money back from, Yosef." She shrugged. "This is no longer about the money you robbed from my estate."

"Then why have you done this!?" Yosef yelled in exchange.

"Because I could." Hylda said calmly. "I must make an example out of you so nobody ever robs from my clan again." Hylda took out a small pack and handed it to Adrian. "The contract has been fulfilled." Hylda said. Then, she acknowledged Elthas for the first time. "You have done your job admirably well. Elthas Belthasar." Hylda said carefully. Then, she looked at Yosef. "Take him away, Adrian. Do with him as you please."

"You can't do this!" Yosef yelled in fear. Elthas looked at the document, he recognized what it was: A Writ. Perfectly, legally written. This woman, scorned, had got Yosef by the balls.

"Don't look at me, I am just paid to turn you in." Elthas said and shrugged. He looked at the woman carefully and smiled at her, nodding. He knew that Human woman were quite possibly the most dangerous force on all of Althanas. Elthas walked over to Adrian, and received his cut of the contract fee. He got his payment in a large pouch, and he put it away quite carefully in his packs. "I thank you for your business." Elthas said to Adrian and Hylda. "If you ever require my services again, let my Handlers know." Elthas said, and at that point, the black-clad men took Yosef away whilst he screamed profanities.

Elthas stole one last look at Hylda, then at Yosef and dreaded what sort of fate would await the man. The thought made The Elf shudder for a moment. He nodded once more to the two before him, and walked off and into the afternoon.

Later that night, Elthas found himself alone.

He lived a quiet life in an apartment in Radasanth provided by The Syndicate's good graces. Elthas was not an evil man, he was a professional, and he was one of the best at what he did. Elthas sat in quiet meditation reflecting on the events of the day, he was completely naked. Elves were a confident lot, and did not have many of the cultural inhibitions that Humans had. Elthas sat on his bed in a lotus position, thinking about what he'd witnessed earlier. The pay had been good, but he felt more than a little uncomfortable working in the daylight hours, out in the open. It was like a fish out of water. Elthas worked at night, in concealment, and relished the cloak that the dark provided. At about 2:30 A.M. there was a knock on his door, and Elthas could hear it even from his position in his bedroom.

Elven gifts afforded him and his kind enhanced senses.

Elthas opened his eyes quickly, slid out of his bed, and walked towards the door.

"One moment." Elthas said loudly, but in a polite way. Who is knocking at this hour?! Elthas thought to himself as he walked to the door, not bothering to put any clothing on. Elthas opened the door and was stunned to see Hylda, the woman from earlier. He blinked a few moments. "Mi'lady, apologies. I was not expecting company." Elthas said, and opened the door to receive his guest.

She entered, and was every bit as handsome as Elthas had remembered from earlier. She wore a fancy blue dress, and kept a well woven hat on her person. She was clearly a lady of some distinction. Elthas was suddenly aware that he was naked, but it did not bother him. He looked at the woman for a moment and then nodded politely to her. "Pardon my appearance. I was resting."

"I-I understand." Hylda said. She closed the door behind herself and walked over towards Elthas. "Elthas." Hylda began. "I wanted an opportunity to thank you personally for what you have done for my Clan and myself." She stared at Elthas with a certain hunger that The Elf noticed, but he kept himself in a professional stature the whole time. "I know your colleagues and yourself are not used to operating out in the open."

"'Tis of no consequence." Elthas said. "My identity was never compromised and neither were any Syndicate operations currently active. As long as it was a one-time affair, I hope that the job was done to your liking." Elthas said. "Mayhap, a drink for the lady?" Elthas asked.

"Please." She said. "My name is Hylda Terrentius, Elthas. Please call me Hylda. There is no need for such formalities of speech. I consider you an ally now." Hylda said.

"Hylda is a handsome name." Elthas said without thinking about it. Then, he walked over towards his bar. The bar in his suite was well stocked. "What is your fancy then?" Elthas said. "I have a few choice heavy liquors stocked, and some other juices and such."

"A Scotch on the rocks." Hylda said. "That would be most divine." Elthas prepared her drink for her, and served it to her. His entire mannerisms were calm and relaxed. "You are quite confident to be standing in such a way in front of a lady." Hylda said, remarking on Elthas's currently skyclad state.

"Oh that? Prithee. 'Tis of no consequence. I always sleep without clothing. But if it bothers you I can put something on." Elthas suggested and began to go to where his closet was.

"That won't be necessary, sire." Hylda said. "You are quite handsome, and I don't mind looking at you in such a state." Hylda said, clearly admiring the slender, but athletically built Elf. "Either way. Elthas, I am here for a reason." She began.

Elthas paused and turned to face her. He leaned against a wall, and folded his arms across his chest. "That being?" Elthas asked.

"I was impressed by what you have done today. That man, Yosef, he caused my Clan a lot of trouble." Hylda explained. "He bedded my sister whilst she was young, and married into my family. Then, he found some tavern whore somewhere, promised her riches. He stole a considerable sum of money out of my estate, and left my sister pregnant and with child." Hylda said. "So you can understand why I am here tonight."

"Sort of. But pardon my confusion, Hylda. I was already paid as per my contract, I am not a greedy man." Elthas said. "However. If there is some other reason you are here, please state it. Though to be honest, I could use a friend's company at the moment." Elthas admitted.

"A friend? That does sound promising." Hylda agreed. "But let me first state why I am here." Hylda grabbed a document from her personal packs, and handed it to Elthas. "This is not from your agency." Hylda explained. "This is a personal gift from me." Hylda continued. "As you might already know, I am someone with considerable influence and a sizable fortune. I can help you acquire riches beyond your wildest dreams. But first, I want you to have that gift." Hylda said.

Elthas was handed the papers, and he took them. "This...!?" Elthas said incredulously.

"Aye." Hylda said. "'Tis the deed to your own house and a sizable team of employees as well." Hylda said.

"Why?" Elthas began. "Why give me this? It was just a job, I just acted as the code states."

"Because of that." Hylda said. "You were very brave in capturing Yosef, and in so doing, have made an ally of me and my clan. My resources are always at your disposal, Elthas Belthasar."

"There has to be something else?" Elthas asked.

"There is." She responded, and kissed Elthas deeply.

Hot and heavy, the kiss lasted for a few long moments.

Showing considerable will power, Elthas broke the kiss first, and held her in his powerful arms. "That is not necessary." Elthas began. "You have already given what you came to give, you don't have to do something that will make you feel uncomfortable in any way." Elthas said carefully. He looked down towards her, he was significantly taller than Hylda. "But I thank you for the kind gesture." Elthas said carefully.

"'Twas not a gesture, sire." Hylda said in response. "I have seldom met one of you Ruildians, and have always found your people an agreeable lot. Besides. I figured that you were equally attracted to me as well. Am I not to your liking, Elthas?" She asked, there was almost a humble aspect to the question that Elthas had never heard from her up until that point. Elthas nodded in response.

"You are quite handsome, Hylda." Elthas said in kind. "It is not the problem of your physical beauty. I am honour bound by The Code." Elthas said quite carefully. "For me to breach it, regardless of how I may feel about you, would be unethical." Elthas said. "Besides, I am also bound to a certain member of The Syndicate." Elthas hinted at.

"Your mate?" Hylda asked, a little saddened to hear that.

"No." Elthas said in response. "I have no mate currently. This person is just someone I owe a debt to." That crazy old man... Elthas thought to himself for a moment. "I made a promise to him, and we Elves do not make promises lightly." Elthas said. He had a strong sense of justice, that was probably his one saving grace. Though he did lust Hylda, he had self control and would not disrespect The Old Man in anyway whatsoever. There was a conduct and behavior that all Syndicate Agents were supposed to abide by. "Forgive me." Elthas said. "I do not wish you to think I do not find you attractive. I am bound by my profession, that is all. Though I will accept this gift that you wish to give me. A house sounds like a good investment." Elthas added.

"'Tis sire." Hylda said after a moment passed. "The drink is good. It's a good year." Hylda knew her liquor really well.

"Ah." Elthas responded. "I really appreciate that, it's a good vintage, I try to keep a stock." Elthas said. "It helps entertain guests that come by." He smiled at her, and she chuckled in response.

"You are an interesting man, Elthas Belthasar. Not quite like the other Syndicate Agents I usually see." Hylda nodded.

"Not all of us are bound." Elthas said in response, agreeing with her. "Those of us who are, are bound to The Code. It's a preference thing depending on what Agent you speak to and where." Elthas explained. "I've been with The Syndicate sometime now. I am still learning quite a bit about The Code."

"I see." Hylda said. "Elthas? Do you suppose I can stay the night here with you? It is very late, and I could use some companionship."

Elthas nodded. "'Twould be be rude of me to let a lady go at this hour." Elthas said gallantly. "You are welcome to stay, Lady Terrentius." Elthas smiled at her. "But. Before we continue, let me do something about my current lack of attire." Elthas chuckled at that, and that caused Hylda to laugh as well.

"Though I do prefer you as you are." Hylda said calmly. "You may go get dressed in something...less revealing." Hylda said with a soft smile.

A few moments later, Elthas returned from his room with a comfortable set of night clothing for himself. He looked at Hylda who sat at a dining table whilst she waited for him. Hylda had helped herself to a refill of the scotch, and more ice. She liked her liquor chilled. Elhas sat at the table with Hylda.

"You know, Hylda, it's been a while since last I had some company of this nature. I have been busy with work." Elthas admitted as he looked at Hylda.

She nodded. "I can only imagine what your life must be like. I am stuck with duty and other matters of nobility." Hylda almost appeared as if she were sad about that.

Elthas noticed the subtle changes in her face, Humans were interesting creatures and quite an emotional lot. "We all have our lots in life." Elthas said in response. "What matters is to perform the duties we are meant to perform to the best of our capacity." Elthas found himself actually enjoying the woman's company. She was fiercely intellectual, and Elthas had seen the darkness she was capable of causing first hand. It was quite impressive, she had a tremendous amount of influence at her disposal to be able to capture a man like Yosef unguarded. Elthas himself had been put on the job, and the bounty hunger had succeeded in the operation, fully incapacitating Yosef in broad daylight. No masks, no hoods, just Elthas being a professional Syndicate Operative. The Old Man would have been quite proud of his achievement.

"That is correct Elthas." She said in response.

And in that fashion, the two spoke candidly until the early hours of the next day. Elthas prepared her breakfast, he was a fair cook, and knew some Elven recipes that would be to her liking. Elthas did not have anymore contracts for that time period, so he would accompany her back to The Terrentius Estate. There he would be introduced to his new house for the first time, and what would become his base of long term operations.

The estate was beautiful even by Elven standards.

Elthas found himself impressed as he helped the lady Hylda Terrentius off of her horse, he'd dismounted a moment earlier. Once she was on solid ground, he looked around, able to see things much more clearly with the gifts of his people. It was a sunny morning, the wind came in from the west. Elthas felt the ground beneath his boots, and it was somewhat softer, and clearly meant for growing crops. Elthas looked at Hylda and her escort for a few moments and nodded.

"'Tis a fine lot." Elthas commented. "I have always admired the smell of a quaint countryside." Elthas stretched for a moment, getting his orientation back after the long horse ride from Radasanth to The Terrentius Estate. The Estate was located on the countryside of Corone, just to the east of Radasanth proper. It was a ways off the road, but several noble folk lived out there, Elhas noticed several fancy forts whilst they traveled. There were folk working fields on the estate, likely earning a humble pittance, but a pittance nonetheless. It seemed like an impressive scheme. The land that they were on was Terrentius land, and had been handed down from generation to generation. It felt to Elthas that he was only just stumbling upon Yosef's previous scheme to con The Terrentius House out of their coffers. "Tell me Lady Hylda, which house is yours in the lot?" Elthas asked, there were several houses laid out before them.

Elthas had always admired Corone architecture, it was new architecture though. The Humans of Corone were still a relatively young race, quite new compared to the older "Immortal" races.

Hylda made a grand gesture. "All of it is." Hylda said. "I have owned this land since my Lord Terrentius passed away nigh a decade prior now. It used to belong to my Uncle. But I soon secured the deeds." Elthas noticed a shadow cross Hylda's face for the briefest of moments, and that made The Elf shudder. "Either way, I represent the heir of this land. That over there is yours." Hylda pointed to a lone brownstone building, fancy build, not more than twenty or thirty years of age by architectural standards. Elthas was an intelligent man and could spot the difference between this or that artistic marvel. Architecture was no difference.

"I am truly impressed." Elthas said. "As an artist of some skill, I can say that your land is most inspiring." Elthas was being sincere. Elthas was told earlier by Hylda, that The Terrentius Estate held a vineyard and could manufacture several types of vintage liquor. That was how The Terrentius Estate made as much gold pieces as it generated. There was money in production those days. "I would very much like to see where you ferment your liquor soon. But perhaps, later this day or later in the week." Elthas said with a grin. "I only request for my house, some equipment to paint. I have had some numerous ideas of late that I have wanted to try and sell with my paintings." Elthas said. He was rubbing his chin as he spoke. Elthas saw opportunity with the land. An opportunity that perhaps, The Humans didn't exactly see.

"I can provide you with whatever you need." Hylda said and stood by his side. "I only ask one thing in return." She said carefully.

"Name it." Elthas responded.

Hylda smiled. "I ask for some loyalty to my Estate. I can assist you in becoming a noble in your own right, but all I ask for is that loyalty in return." Hylda said, she was quite serious.

Elthas nodded. "I pledge my word as a Syndicate Operative." Elthas said, he was equally sincere. Just then, a butterfly flew quite close to Elthas, and The Elf reached out. The butterfly landed on Elthas's hand. Elthas smiled. "Many beautiful creatures abound here." Elthas said softly, he was looking at Hylda the whole time. "This one being just one of them. Off you go my little friend." There was a tree nearby, and one of the lowest branches extended quite low. Elthas put the butterfly upon the branch. In turn, the butterfly flapped it's wings mightily in agreement. It maneuvered up the branch and out of sight a moment later. Elthas nodded again and looked at Hylda.

"I've never heard such words." Hylda wore a smile on her face. She was quite a mysterious woman. Elthas found her very agreeable. "'Twould be quite a change of pace to have someone like you with us from now on." Hylda said. "In any event, we better get you indoors." She added. "'Tis not safe when it gets dark even our security can't handle some of the monsters that occasionally make their way on the property." Hylda explained, and right then, Elthas realized that she needed hired muscle.

"Offering me work too?" Elthas asked.

She paused with a grin on her face. "You are quick, sire." She said. "I will have to remember that hence." She started walking across the beautiful land, and Elthas followed.

Elthas's eyes noticed an energy about everywhere, a purity that came with clean, holy land. He was on a sacred place, and he wondered for the briefest of moment, should he even be there? Is this the right sort of environment for someone like me, doing what I do?! Elthas thought to himself as he walked alongside the lady.

It was a quiet walk as the small group of people walked with Elthas and Hylda towards the house that was set aside for Elthas. Elthas had many concerns on his mind as he walked in silence. Hylda was talking to one of her servants. It was quite clear to Elthas that she was an extremely efficient woman. Elthas respected that about her. He liked people who wre professional and operated with a certain sense of leadership. This is going to go far. Hopefully this chance works out for me. Elthas thought about the crazy old man just then. The Syndicate Operative that he had rescued that fateful night. I won't break my oath to you. Old man. Ever. That I promise. Elthas thought to himself. He felt a little more light hearted as he thought that. The day was looking up.

This is an impressive set up. Elthas found himself thinking as he stood there looking at the house for a few moments. It wasn't the largest house on the land, but it would do. He didn't have to pay for it, and that made the deal even sweeter. I earned this thing out of my own skill. Nobody can take that away from me. He folded his arms across his chest as he studied the elegant Corone architecture. It was new, post Empire era. The style was of a simplistic architectural style with handsome arches, and posts holding the walls up. Elthas was eager to inspect the furniture.

He looked at Hylda who was staring at him with a strange expression on her face that reminded Elthas of something like amusement.

"I trust everything is satisfactory, sire?" She asked.

"It's all perfect." Elthas said in response. Elthas hated having to ask her the next request, but he wanted to be certain it got done. "I would like to have some art equipment transferred to a large room in there." Elthas said casually. "I can write up a list of what I need."

"You paint?" Hylda asked with a raise of her eyebrow.

"I do." Elthas responded. "'Tis a hobby, I do not wish to sell any of my works, but I do enjoy painting and sculpting when I have the chance. I have some gear in my place back in the city that I'd like transferred here."

Hylda nodded. It was a humble request. "Of course. I will get some people on it later Elthas. If you have any other needs you just let me know and I will attempt to make it happen." Hylda said.

She is eager to help me. That is very good. I have found a potential ally for the long term. That is also very good. Elthas thought and then walked towards Hylda. She did not flinch away from him. "One more thing." Elthas said carefully. "I trust you have a key somewhere to this?" Elthas waved gallantly towards the house.

"Oh!" Hylda exclaimed, as if she had forgotten some important detail. She chuckled a moment later, and removed a large set of keys from a pouch at her side. She immediately removed a small set of keys from the larger collection. She handed the keys, including one elegant looking key, to Elthas. "That key will be your skeleton key. You can get into any room in the house with that at any time." She said. "The other keys are for specific chambers in the house, I will tell you about them all a little later. The most important chamber being your cellar." She said with a sly grin.

"What is there?" Elthas had to ask. Curiosity getting the better of him.

"A complete vintage collection of several different wines and hard liquor, hopefully to your liking. You will have full access to it, including servicing and refillings. You will also assist the estate in selling the vintage at a premium, that will be your cover identity." Hylda said carefully. "There is also this." Hylda handed Elthas a small scroll with The Syndicate seal on it. "As of now, you are contracted directly to me."

Elthas blinked several times in shock. How could she make this happen and me not be aware of it!? How can this be!? Elthas thought to himself as he broke The Syndicate seal and took the small parchment in his hands. He unrolled the letter and read it carefully, word for word. Syndicate parcel was often encrypted, but Elthas was a member of The Syndicate and knew the code. This was written in plain common, no fancy encryption, no cyphers, no nothing. Once Elthas was done reading, he wore a lop sided grin on his face. He was absolutely stunned.

"You are a very influential woman to have something like this occur." Elthas said. "What is it that you want from me, exactly?" Elthas said carefully.

"You." Hylda responded. "I have seen your skill first hand. Capturing that man, Yosef, was just the first test and you have passed. Now, there will be others, but for the time being...we become better acquainted. For the time being you relax and get your things in order, preparing for the next job. I promise you...it will be a great deal more difficult. Ask I asked you earlier, all I ask for is some loyalty in return." Hylda said, and Elthas was sold.

Elthas was not a greedy man nature, but he was also not a stupid man. H would not bite the hand that fed him so graciously. As long as they honoured his association to The Syndicate, he would honour his new job as well. Elthas thought about everything that had transpired for a few moments, long ones, whilst Hylda spoke to some of her servant folk. Several of them were sent to this or that errand, and one of them walked over towards Elthas, who was lost in his thoughts during that transaction. Normally he paid a great deal of attention, but that moment was lost to him as he had just learned a great deal about who that woman named Hylda Terrentius actually was. It made him shiver slightly to know that she wielded such influence that she could affect Syndicate politics.

"Mi'lord Elthas?" The girl asked of Elthas.

Elthas blinked and looked at the girl in front of him for the first time, she was not Hylda. Elthas nodded to her politely after another minute passed. "Yes, child?" Elthas asked.

"I would like your address in Radasanth so we can retrieve your belongings, mi'lord." She said plainly.

Elthas suddenly realized what she was saying. He'd been so caught up in the moment that he had not noticed anything that was going on with Hylda and her compatriots. Apparently, Hylda was already getting everybody geared to get Elthas's things situated in the new property. Elthas couldn't help but laugh at that. The girl appeared startled for a moment, but his laughter was not sinister. It was actually quite friendly.

"My apologies, I did not mean to frighten you." Elthas said. "Here, I shall write it for you." A few moments later, Elthas had written the information in perfectly scribed common for the girl to follow. Then, he handed the girl a key, trusting her to it. "Be careful with that, the apartment is rented and return that key back to it's rightful owner when the transaction is complete. Man you're looking for resides..." Elthas gave her the rest of the information. And, as well, a small pouch with that month's rent. He had earned the money from the job he had completed by capturing Yosef. He didn't have to agree with a state's politics to be a loyal, tax payer. After that, they were all on their ways. Elthas was left with Hylda. He looked at her.

"So." Elthas said carefully, looking at her with a calm expression on his face. "You got what you wanted it would appear." Elthas said.

"I always do." Hylda said with a slight shrug. "Elthas, I want to give you a tour of the house to make sure everything is to your liking." She said, inviting Elthas further in.

He would not refuse her, for he knew what type of woman she was, and what she was capable of doing...

That night...

Elthas and Hylda were in the cellar of the house. As promised, Elthas was being shown the various vintage alcohol that was kept in the house. Elthas was a man of profound culture and taste. He found himself becoming more and more attracted to Hylda as time progressed, and with the contract now established, he didn't have to follow The Syndicate code with her. However, he would bed her on his own terms, not hers. He knew she was equally attracted to him and that was fine too. Elthas listened to the descriptions of each of the vintage drinks. She also told him how the substances were fermented at an alcohol refinery that was on her property.

Elthas could smell the liquor in the air when he first walked down the steps into the basement. It was a strong, but also, very sweet flavour. Almost inviting. As the hours rolled on, Elthas found that he was finding Hylda's company quite agreeable. She wouldn't be the first woman he would bed, and he doubted she'd be the last. Unless he was attempting to court her which would change the game all together.

In the cellar, there were several rows of neatly stacked barrels. Each barrel could be tapped for their contents which was this or that type of vintage alcohol. The smell was stronger in the air the further one went into the cellar. There were also several racks that were filled from top to bottom with wine bottles, Elthas could feel the stone underneath his boots as he walked. The cellar was quite clean and did not have any cobwebs or was too dirty. Elthas figured that the cellar being kept clean was Hylda's doing.

As they walked by each of the neatly stored sections of barrels, Hylda explained what their contents were and their vintages. Elthas paid careful attention. He knew he would have to sell the vintages for a premium at some point so he learned as much as he could and asked questions as needed about the products that The Terrentius Estate produced. Elthas fancied himself a casual drinker, as he didn't like to lose command of his senses. He preferred being as sober as possible, even whilst drinking, he drank considerably less oft than the average alcoholic.

Hylda was explaining something about a certain type of white wine when Elthas heard a knock on the cellar door. They were a bit of a ways away from the door, but Elthas could hear it. He interrupted Hylda just then, with a casual touch of the shoulder.

"Hylda, it would appear that we have company." Elthas said carefully.

"Excellent, I was so lost in thought that I didn't pay attention. It will be a good boon to have you around, Elthas." Hylda said, and then they both walked back up the stairs. Waiting for them, at the top of the stairs, was one of the servants that Elthas had instructed earlier in the day. She wore a subtle smile on her face, and Elthas noticed that. Hylda approached the servant first, Elthas followed keeping a pace or two apart from between himself and Hylda. Out of respect for station. "Is your task done?" Hylda asked.

"Sir Elthas's belongings were successfully moved, and the rent was paid as requested. We also returned the keys to their owner. The list of items requested by Sir Elthas are in order and many of the items have been relocated here. The rest of it will be relocated later in the week." The girl said.

"Nicely done. Lauren, see to it that you rest well tonight. You have earned it and take the rest of the week off." Hylda said carefully.

The girl, Laudren, bowed in response and she looked at Elthas with an almost inviting expression on her face. The expression quickly faded, but Elthas saw it. He smiled in response, but said nothing. The girl took her leave and left Hylda alone with Elthas. Hylda turned towards Elthas. "You will have some time to get oriented on Estate procedures and other matters you need to know. Once you have completely adapted to your new role, you will be given your first mission." Hylda explained. She leaned in close to Elthas, Elthas did not flinch. "And Elthas. I will come to you later tonight, in your quarters." She said and then with that, left Elthas alone to his own vices.

"Great." Elthas said once he was alone. He sighed. "Just fucking great, this is gonna be very interesting indeed." He closed the cellar door, and made sure it was locked as per regulations. Once he was alone he could venture towards his bed chamber. From time to time, he came across this or that worker that was busily working on some assignment that the master of The Estate gave them. Elthas walked with a confident step, dressed in the same fancy attire as earlier in the day. The items he had requested from his rented apartment were already moved quickly and efficiently to his new home.

Elthas suddenly had an urge to paint.

As he walked back to where his room was, he'd been shown it earlier in the day, he thought about that urge. It was rather an impulse, and he had a great deal of energy that night. So once he returned to his personal quarters, he looked at the painting equipment he'd requested. Most of his items were there, as well as some new ones that he had requested from Hylda and her associates. Elthas had a fully functional painting studio in his personal quarters, and could paint to his heart's content. Painting was quite relaxing him and very much a part of his nature.

As he entered the chamber, he undressed, keeping only his pants on.

He took off his boots and socks. Taking a moment to stretch, and then went to work. He prepared his painting equipment, and then, was off on the canvas. When he looked at the blank canvas he did not see an empty slate, he saw whole worlds that were waiting to be explored by his imagination and the imagination of his audience. And so, in his new house, Elthas began to paint the first of a long series of paintings that would map out years of Elthas's life. Elthas would make it a point to paint more regularly from then on, and with that, he worked. He knew Hylda would come at some point, and that would be the true test of what his place in the world was.

Who was the slave, and who was the master.

As Elthas painted, a scene unfolded before. He was painting Ruild, his homeland. Ruild was the other term for Concordia. It was a more ancient term, one befitting one of The Elven folk. In the painting, he had laid out a small lake, with many trees surrounding it. The sun was out, and overall it was quite skillfully done. In the realistic style of the ancient Radasanth art masters. Elthas did not consider himself a master, but he was slowly getting there in terms of skill level. His hand stroked the brush with practiced movement, and the image seemed to unfold before his eyes. Elthas could on a painting for several days at a time, without food or rest.

He'd rest once the painting was done, but during it, he would ride the wave of euphoria. Sitting atop one of the rocks located by the shoreline of the lake, he painted a lone Radasanthian fisherman. The line of that fellow's fishing pole was steady, and the shoulders of the fisherman were arched in a natural sort of way. The fisherman had a toolkit beside his person, and his reflection was visible in the water. Even as he dipped his feet in the surface of the water, preparing to catch the meal of the hour. Once Elthas had produced the basic composition, he could continue and refine the details of the painting to make his style more unique.

Elthas's style was highly realistic, and Elves could see much more detail in things than a standard Human could.

At about the third hour of painting, Elthas noticed that he was no longer alone. He stopped painting after a few moments, and allowed the wet paint to dry on the canvas. He turned to look at Hylda who was also staring at his painting.

"You are quite skilled, Elthas." Hylda said casually. "I mean that, I am somewhat of an art collector." Hylda added.

"You are a woman of many fine tastes." Elthas responded, and he was catching his breath. He sat down on a nearby chair, looking at Hylda very carefully. "So." Elthas began. "I trust this is not a courtesy call, I take it?"

Hylda walked over towards the painting, and observed the level of detail from a closer distance. She kept looking at Elthas with a satisfied expression on her face. "How do you manage to make such tiny details on the canvas, Elthas? I was always curious about different artistic technique. Perhaps you might show me?" Hylda asked.

Elthas was surprised at that. Then he chuckled in a kind sort of way. He looked at Hylda for a long moment and nodded. "All right." Elthas said carefully. He stood up and walked over towards Hylda, and stood quite close to her. "You take the chisel point of this tool right here." Elthas showed her a small scraping tool. "You lightly dip it in the paint, and then make careful lines like so." Elthas put the small tool in Hylda's hand by the handle, and showed her how to carefully place fine lines. Elthas could feel the nervous tension in Hylda's body, her skin seemed to quiver at his strong touch. Elthas smiled. He knew she lusted him, but he still held back considerably, he didn't know why either. She's making this too easy. I can't just take her like I would another lover, she's my boss now. I have to be very careful here. Elthas thought to himself.

"You are holding back, Elthas." Hylda said suddenly, and put down the painting tool. "You don't have to hold back with me." She said carefully. "I know you are a professional, and that you take your code of conduct very seriously, but, when we are alone there doesn't have to be a code."

"Hylda." Elthas said carefully. "I understand how you think you must feel about me. But this is much too sudden. I don't want to rush when we can be patient and take our time here. I don't want to make any mistakes with you at all. You already have me like you wanted me in the first place. There is no need to rush into bed when we can get to know each other better first." Elthas was being sincere.

Hylda sighed in his arms. She leaned against him and put her head against his chest. "Where have you been all my life?" Hylda suddenly asked. "You are a work of art yourself, Elthas. Please do not change. Not for me, and not for anybody. But, might I ask something of you tonight?" Hylda asked.

"Of course. You may ask whatever it is you need." Elthas said, he nodded and waited for her response.

"I'd like to stay with you tonight. I do not wish to be alone. If I cannot have you yet, then I wish to remain by your side." Elthas could hear an almost desperate tone in her voice.

"Hylda. 'Tis a simple request. Of course you can stay with me, why wouldn't I let you do such a thing?" It was then that Elthas began to realize that perhaps, Yosef had caused this woman a great deal of harm. Elthas sighed. He knew he would have to watch over this woman with every ounce of skill he could muster. That was likely his new lot in life. He held her in his arms for a long while. She said nothing after that, and simply seemed to enjoy just being held. From one partner to another. When it was time to call it a night, well into the wee hours of the morning, Elthas suddenly picked Hylda up, and walked to his bed with her in his arms. Clinging powerfully. Elthas wouldn't break his personal beliefs for her, but he would lay in bed with her, and keep her company the whole time they slept...

The next day...

A few hours later, Hylda stirred in his arms. He held her the entire time, and as he had given his word, he would not let her go. Elthas noticed that she slept quite peacefully against him. He rubbed her stomach gently as he held her, feeling the firmness of it against his hand. She was actually quite a strong, athletic woman. Elthas liked that about her, he had always admired strong women. When she stirred he heard her heart beat slightly faster for the briefest of moments, and then settle down. It was an irregularity caused likely be heightened euphoria.

"Are you awake, Hylda?" Elthas asked.

"T-that was the best sleep I have had in a while." Hylda said. She leaned against Elthas, turned slightly, and kissed him deeply. Elthas, kissed her in return. I could get used to this. Elthas thought as he kissed with a certain hunger. He almost let himself completely go. "Am I not good enough for you Elthas?" Hylda asked after they stopped kissing.

"You are..." Elthas responded. "It is just my personal views on the matter that is the reason I am holding back. But please, understand, I want you too. I just don't want to cause any problems with a union between us."

"Elthas." Hylda suddenly said. Looking deep into his eyes, Elthas noticed that her eyes were quite hypnotic and he enjoyed staring at them. "I want a union between us. You do not realize everything that Yosef has taken away from me and my family. My Clan needs a strong leader again after that whole ordeal has transpired. You can be that leader. And...there is something else Elthas."

"What is the reason, my lady?" Elthas asked.

Hylda suddenly became very serious. "I...I love you Elthas. Believe it or not I have known about you for a long time now. My family has close personal ties to The Syndicate, and word travels fast in small circles. So when I heard that an Elf joined The Syndicate, I put events in order to be certain that we finally met." Hylda said. "I have dreamed of this moment for so long...Elthas."

Elthas was speechless. It was at that point he realized the influence that woman held, how much political power she could actually summon. Elthas immediately knew that she was dangerous and he would not be a fool to turn her down after all that had happened between them. He decided, that one time, for love...he could break his code. He sighed for a moment, but had not let her go the entire time she spoke. She probably knew a great deal about Elthas, that made him more than a little uncomfortable.

"Hylda. I appreciate everything that you have done and will do for me. I pledge my allegiance to you and my loyalty." Elthas said carefully. "Furthermore, I can now pledge something else. This pledge I do not give lightly to you either." Elthas said.

"What pledge is that?" Hylda asked.

"My love to you." Elthas suddenly kissed her back, and completely let himself go. It felt good to be able to cut loose his physical hunger for her after all that had happened.

They spent the better part of the day enjoying the pleasures of the flesh...

Once they were both spent, Elthas looked at her with a smile.

"I have not done that in a while either. Been too busy with work." Elthas said carefully.

"I can understand that much." Hylda said in response. "Elthas, I have heard that a union between Elven folk and Humans creates unique offspring if you would. Is this true?" Hylda suddenly asked.

Elthas nodded. "The bloodlines are different." Elthas said carefully. "When they mix it creates what you Humans call a Halfling in the common tongue. If the gods bless us with a child after this union, our child would have many interesting gifts." Elthas explained. "But that is not an exact science either. We won't know until it actually happens." Elthas said.

"Elthas. You would stay and raise a child with me?" She asked.

"Of course. It would be our child after all and a union of that sort would require the both of us to raise him right. He would have the potential to change the world." Elthas just then wondered about what sorts of possibilities their child would bring. But first, we don't know if she is even with child. Elthas thought to himself, but he continued to hold his partner in his powerful arms. One of his hands played with her golden blond hair. "Hylda if you do plan on making a child with me, we should begin to think about how you wanna educate him or her." Elthas said. "I want my child to be intelligent and able to lead in this mad world." Elthas added.

"I know." Hylda responded. "Don't worry, Elthas. I will see to it that once our time comes, that our union will create a future leader of this world." Hylda smiled softly and laid against Elthas's chest. She listened to his heart. "I love that sound." Hylda said.

"Thank you." Elthas responded. He kissed her on the forehead, and there he laid with her in his arms. The two simply rested for the time being, allowing themselves the time to just be young lovers. In a world gone mad, in a world gone completely insane. Theirs was the simplest of all pleasures in the world.

The only thing worth living for, the only thing worth dying for.

Love.

Once they finally got out of the bed, Elthas and Hylda got dressed and decided it was time to get some food. Elthas hadn't realized how hungry he was until that point, and he shared a quick laugh with Hylda. They got dressed without incident, and moved to the main house of the estate, which was where Hylda's family was located. The Terrentius Estate, Elthas's new home and base of operations. Elthas looked back the way he came for a moment, a long one, and wondered if this would all be worth giving up the previous life. He knew he was still a Syndicate agent, but that was not the issue at hand. My issue is, if I am still a Syndicate member and I report to Hylda, what happens after that? Elthas thought, and then turned his attention back to Hylda who had walked some distance ahead of Elthas.

Elthas wore simple clothing that day.

It was a basic suit, colored grey and it was quite comfortable. He did not wear a cloak, but he did wear a fedora. The fedora was tipped at a slight forty five degree angle.

It was a nice afternoon when Elthas approached Hylda's house for the first time of many in his new life. The wind came in from the north, and added a certain sense of comfort to the afternoon. It was not hot, but it was not terribly cold either. It was an agreeable afternoon, and Elthas was dressed for success. He wore a blazer type topping on him, and kept his hands in his pockets. He did not wear a cloak, there was no need for his full gear on at that time. He assumed he was relatively safe. Elthas was greeted by Hylda's personnel warmly. He returned the greetings out of a professional courtesy.

Once he entered the big house, he saw that there were several people he had not yet met. These, likely, were Hylda's relatives. He was eager to meet her parents and see what kind of people they were. When Elthas entered the main hall of the building, he saw that several people were already gathered, waiting for Hylda and Elthas. Elthas stood by Hylda's side, providing her with whatever sense of comfort that she needed. He smiled the whole time, he felt like a million gold pieces. And his demeanor probably reflected that.

Hylda took a quick glance at Elthas, he noticed this and nodded in a reassuring way.

"Lady Terrentius." An older gentleman spoke, he was probably the head of the household. "Your return to us likely means that you were successful with what I have asked of you?" He spoke in a stern fashion. Elthas immediately found that the man was well dressed, and appeared to have an agreeable personality. Elthas decided that the man was probably just concerned about his overall Estate.

Elthas folded his arms across his chest and waited until he was addressed.

"Yosef was apprehended." Hylda began. "The task was not an easy one, and this is The Agent who got the job done." Hylda motioned gallantly towards Elthas. "His name is Elthas of Clan Belthasar." Hylda continued. "He went out of his way to ensure that Yosef was not permanently injured and captured him in broad daylight, in front of many guards." Hylda nodded. "He is an Elf of tremendous skill and we owe him a great debt." Hylda added.

"Elthas." The old man suddenly said. "Come forward, lad. Let me see you up close."

Elthas approached the old man with a confident step.

He nodded to him, then bowed deeply, going down to one knee in front of the old man.

Hylda saw that and smiled.

The old man clapped his hands. "There is no need for that mi'boy." The old man said. "Please rise. You have caught a man that has robbed a large portion of my family's wealth. We are glad to have it back. We always reward those who do a personal favour to our Clan." The old man said.

"What will happen to Yosef after this?" Elthas had to know. Yosef had cost him a great deal of trouble and personal resources.

"He has been dealt with." The old man said.

Elthas noticed that Hylda remained quiet the whole time.

"By the way, in case you are wondering. My name is Theo." Theo said carefully. "I am aware that when you first joined The Syndicate you got involved in saving a certain old man? Is this correct?"

Taken slightly aback, Elthas was standing up by then and could only nod. "He was a ranking member of The Syndicate." Elthas said. "I saved him one night agaisnt the orders of my people and decided to join The Syndicate afterward."

Theo nodded. "That man is my Brother." Theo said. "And he is with us now, it was decided that you not meet him directly until the right time came."

Elthas blinked. The old man is alive!?

"It has been a long time, Elthas." Came a familiar voice from Elthas's west. He turned towards that direction and looked at The Old Man he had saved so long ago.

Elthas felt a rush of emotions and walked over to the old man, he grinned as he saw him.

"Good to see you alive and well. You crazy bastard." Elthas and the old man laughed at that. Then, they exchanged a warm hand shake.

"The name is Seth. By the way. Seth Terrentius." At last, Elthas had a name for that Old Man.

"Seth. A fitting name." Elthas said. He looked at Hylda after that. "I know this man." Elthas said. "I see now that everything has transpired the way it was meant to transpire." He walked over to Hylda. "And I do apologize for holding back at first. I was scared cause of my duty to The Syndicate. Please understand I meant no ill will towards you or your family."

"I know." Hylda said. "I have been around The Syndicate since as far back as I can remember. I know it's operations through and through. I understand you were merely looking out for me." Hylda said. "And I appreciate that. But now...there are matters to discuss." Hylda looked at Seth and Theo.

"Elthas. We are a ranking portion of The Syndicate's higher echelons. We can take care of your employment needs from here on in." Seth said. "The night you rescued me, I don't know what would have happened if you would have chosen the other decision." Seth shook his head. "Either way, we will all assemble at the main dining hall. We have much to plan, and to decide." Seth said. "Let us get underway."

Theo and the other gathered people that were with him already were walking towards the dining hall.

Elthas stayed by Seth's side. "Seth. It is a comfort to see you alive and well. I wish someone would have told me sooner." Elthas said.

"All that has happened, has happened the way it was supposed to. I don't want you to have any regrets, Elthas. You have become one of The Syndicate's most promising Agents. Remember that, always." Seth said and they all walked together towards the dining hall.

Elthas and Hylda held hands the entire time they walked.

Old Gods and New Streets - Judgment

Story - 10/30
Storytelling - 3/10 You had a story and stuck with it, but it had no rising or falling action, nor any climax or resolution. The action all fell in the first post and died there. As well, it was unidirectional, and nothing unexpected or inconvenient happened. Try adding some twists or obstacles to Elthas' progression, or even something that will create long-term drama. I was reading the introduction of Theo fully ready for him to be Hylda's husband and for Elthas to be her secret lover, only to find that he was just some guy in her family that was completely okay with the relationship between Hylda and Elthas.
I should also mention that it was incredibly confusing to have as a backing force someone who was only vaguely mentioned as a "crazy old man" who made Elthas swear to follow a Code that never really got explained. If something is a major plot point, it should be much more readily understood by the reader than this was. It took a lot of guessing for me to even come to the conclusion that the Syndicate was some sort of mafia-like organization. Not only that, but when the guards had Elthas surrounded, they did nothing but gawk at him tying up a man that had just been nearly murdered, and let him walk away with no consequences. Not only was this incredibly unrealistic, but it was a huge missed opportunity for the Action category.
Pacing - 4/10 This thread moved forward at a steady pace, never slowing, but never really hastening through uninteresting sections. Further, there was a lot of repetition within the narrative. Try to skip past the things that can be assumed to have taken place, unless something happens during breakfast that drives the story or provides something of value to it.
Setting - 3/10 Very little was described within this story, and there was even less interaction with the setting. Even the clothing that you went out of your way to mention was left blank. Elthas wore a "suit" with no further description of what kind of suit, what color it was, or anything else about it other than that it was of high quality. Hylda's dress was "fine," but what color was it? How did it accentuate or hide certain features of her body? Was it low-cut and revealing, or high-necked and ladylike? And for being so attuned to their senses, elves really don't seem to notice much beyond what's really important to moving the story forward. While I enjoyed the description of the wine cellar's odor, adding in a couple more senses in the description would have made it come alive in my mind.

Characterization - 10/30
Persona - 3/10 I didn't know anything about Elthas going into this thread, and I still don't know much. This isn't a result of a lack of description of his character, or telling actions, but his stances seemed arbitrary and often changed with the slightest whim. He refused adamantly to bed Hylda, not once but twice, only to then allow her to sleep in his bed with him both times. And the second time, when they wake up, she proclaims her love for him, despite only having met him two days before. And her proclamation of love makes him think of how much power and wealth she has, and so he says he loves her, too, and beds her. This would have been a great way to establish your character as being willing to go to great lengths and risk to gain power and wealth in such a way, but then it seemed like he really did love her, but without any sentimentality or emotion. The subject of children got broached, but not in any manner of daydreams between lovers, but a matter of plans for conquest and pragmatism. His every action had two potential reasonings, both in direct conflict with one another and with conflicting implications on his personality, and he seemed every time to have both reasons at once. Don't be afraid to make your character look like a bad guy because he's doing something out of greed or lust for power, or even out of normal lust. These things can help to build your character, and it seemed like you really wanted to build him up that way, but were afraid of him not being relatable because of them.
Further, though I know this is intended as a socialization story for Elthas, it seemed to be just a little too proper. Everyone was handsome and agreeable, except for Yosef. And everyone behaved with flawless manners. Even in this sort of society, real people don't behave this way, and even unintentional insults are not so easily waved away.
Action - 3/10 Nothing really happened. All of the real action was in the first post, and it was over way to quickly to be enjoyed, and even that was too simple and easily overcome to have any effect on the reader. Obstacles make things exciting, and tough fights actually end up making your character look cooler than if he disarms everyone with his arms tied behind his back.
Communication - 4/10 As I said in Persona, everyone was incredibly polite and agreeable, to an unbelievable degree. As well, the dialogue was wooden, and very little was provided in other methods of communication, like body language. Finally, I would suggest that if you're going to use an archaic mode of speech for dialogue, use it consistently. Several times you slipped out of the "prithee"s and used words like "wanna." It was jarring, and could have been avoided.

Prose - 14/30
Technique - 2/10 "Elthas was." That's the biggest thing I got from this thread. Elthas was a lot of things. He was handsome, he was patient, he was not an evil man. It seems a small thing, but when you continually use such simple phrasing, it makes the writing dry and boring. Spice it up a bit. Elthas might be patient, but describe his patience, rather than just saying he is it. He may be handsome, but what makes him handsome? Further lack of flair and simplicity of writing contributed to this score.
Mechanics - 6/10 There were few problems with your mechanics. I saw run-ons and sentence fragments, but not many. Most of your mispellings were the result of spellcheck errors, and only occasionally did you capitalize unusual words for no discernable reason. You would have scored higher here if you had taken more risks in your Technique without compromising Mechanics.
Clarity - 6/10 The story was clear, though that was in large part because of its simplicity. Points were taken off, however, for story elements that needed to be puzzled through in order to justify the events of the quest, such as the Syndicate's particular influence or who this "crazy old man" was and what the Code required of Elthas. If you introduce a driving story element, it should be at least passingly explained, even if you want its detail to remain mysterious.

Wild Card - 6/10 This thread was not without its problems, but it showed promise. Work on the things I pointed out, and consider my advice, and you could really grow as a writer. As a note, this did not affect your score, but the word counts were distracting and unnecessary. Word count has no bearing on Althanas' procedure.
