I had a neat idea to run with me fellow Althanas members and that was maybe to run a pen and paper game for some light roleplaying fun to losen up and have some fun.

I will be using OpenRPG (http://www.openrpg.com/index.php?page=install) to run a game of FATE (http://www.faterpg.com/) with some of my fellow members.

FATE's a generic RP system so any setting can be done. It apears complex at first but don't worry, I can help you out. So please post here if your interested.

If it's anything like DnD, I'd be up for it. It's Friday night and I have nothing to do, so it'd be even more awesome if you were planning on doing it tonight :p

sadly I can't do it tonight. I haven't had time to prepare and my mom's on chemo so the preparations will be oof since she innterupts me alot when she's on Chemo. I'm just making sure people are interested though it'll probably happen on friday nights since that's the best day for me to do this kind of thing.

though it is like DND but not as complex.

It sure looks interesting, that's for sure. You'll need to go over some of the basics though, before I totally commit myself :p I'm sure it'll help anyone else interested as well.

I'd like to give it a shot. I have some experience with DnD myself, so this'll probably come easy to me. Now to actually try and read the rules........

well the Fate system uses the Fudge for the basic rules, now this can be a little confusing at first but I can help. players roll 4 six sided dice and compare their skill level to the challenge level or an opposing skill check. for each die that lands on 1 or 2 the skill is lowered by 1 for that check, 3' and 4' manage no change, 5's and 6's raise the skill. Also Aspects and fate points can be used to modify the rolls or re-roll.

Characters have three things that are rule based and that's aspects, skills and special gear. Also players may earn fate points that they can use to modify rolls to their favor.

Aspects are traits of your character that can represent anything from virtues (Strong, smart) to flaws (scatterbrained, weak) to something in-between (big and dumb) to occupations (Samurai, cowboy) to important items (a family sword that you always have buy your side) or even NPCs that are important and even a fellow PC that is important to your character. Aspects are used to move things in you favor when it is useful or earning fate points for when it hinders your character.

Skills are the basis on how you get things done. how skilled you are is how you beat challenges and get things done that need to be done and are important enough to warrant a roll of the dice. skills cost one point but for each skill above level 1 you will two skills of the lower level. so one level 3 skills will require two level 2 skills and 4 level one skills.

and the magic system will be to be determined by me though I'm leaning towards a freeform or stunt system

Well that's the technical part, which will seem much easier once we get started, I assure you.

As for the setting I was leaning in the direction of having it take place in the universe of Hyper Police(a manga by Mee), an anime setting where in the future a disaster took place and made it so mankind had to share the planet with monsters and other demi-humans with Furries being the most common but there are demons and spirits too. Magic exists as well as technology and they work rather well together.

But if you want another setting that will work too^^ I've ran a successful Planescape (Fave DnD universe) campaign using fate

If you want a different setting I need to know by wednessday night.

Sounds fun. Maybe we should do a basic quest to start with, and then maybe you could have weekly, or bi-weekly, or monthy campaigns :D

As for the setting, I'd prefer a fantasy-ish one just because that's how I roll. But if others like this one, I'm fine with it.

I'll play with any kinda universe. As long as I get to kill stuff. :D

These rules sound a lot like the White Wolf system. Especially the dice rolling............ahh, how I miss Vampire: The Masquerade.

I’ve decided on the magic system for the campaign, I’ll be using the stunt system with a few tweaks. Aspects can be used as well as stunt boxes if it makes since and I will also allow players to make their own magical disciplines but I have to approve it. Also I made a few samples that you can gladly use.

Fox magic:

Nonstunt uses: none

Stunt uses: Kitsune magic is capable of creating illusions and transformation of the user. It cannot create anything solid or transform others. While transformed the aspects that deal with fox magic are converted to aspects of the form, a kitsune that turns into a dragon will use kitsune aspect as a dragon and that can be checked off to use the aspect for dragon like things such as breathing fire or having hard scales. Also the kitsune magic skill is used for the skill in doing dragon type stuff.

Water Magic:

Nonstunt uses: a water mage can control small amounts of water and move them to her whim, also can heat and cool water slightly.

Stunt uses: can control great amounts of water, can attempt to freeze a foe, summon a water spirit or boil water. Water magic cannot affect body fluids or chemicals that are not water or seawater.

Lightning magic:

Non stunt uses: Create minor static shocks that don’t do much, cause hair to stand on end.

Stunt uses: A lightning bolt, a static field that repels bullets and metal, electrify a weapon.

Mystic sword:

Non stunt uses: Basic sword maneuvers

Stunt uses: Cut something that would normally be impossible to cut in one slice, send a bolt of force with a cut of the blade, use the sword to block projectiles.

Gun-fu:

Nonstunt uses: Shoot the gun really well.

Stunt uses: have a silver bullet on hand, make a trick shot that ricochets and still hits the target, hit a critical area that causes an explosion.

These are mostly guidelines and if you think of a cool use for your magic that is fair then you can do it but the GM is the one who’ll decide if it’s fair.

Double post sorry^^

For those who want to make their character early, we will be going with the Hyper-police setting. The players will be bounty hunters and detectives; you don’t have to have a combat oriented character though some combat ability is recommended. As far as skills and limits there isn’t much. The technology level is a little above this one as robots can be made, but cybernetics are a wee bit advanced to be common. There won’t be any space travel and no super giant robots, though small powered armor is allowed.

Most common race is furry, and humans are considered an endangered species. Most are allowed but now Extra terrestrials, there won’t be any space travel. You can have a fantasy character from another time and supernatural characters are allowed as well, but huge nasty monsters are strictly for NPCs, though shape-shifting magic could transform into one.

Players will start with 4 phases of 4 skills and a free aspect for species. Meaning you get 16 skill points and 5 aspects but one has to be species related, like kitsune, cat girl, human, demon ect ect.
