View Full Version : Rocca Ravara

Roc
10-05-12, 02:55 AM
Name: Rocca Ravara
Gender: Male
Race: Coronian Human
Age: 28
Height: 5’10”
Weight: 165 lbs.
Language: Tradespeak
Occupation: Detective; moonlights as a collector of artifacts and antiques

Appearance: Roc is a man of medium height, thin build and fair complexion. He’s tough, though not especially strong or athletic. He’s clean-shaven and well-kempt, with medium-length black hair that naturally sweeps back to the nape of his neck. His gaunt appearance and the dark bags beneath his gray eyes lend him the look of an older man. His clothing is elegant and varied, though stopping short of ‘fancy.’

Personality: Calm and calculated. Makes decisions based on what he thinks, not what he feels. He never seems to lose his cool, or even show much emotion at all. He doesn’t have much of a sense of humor. Despite this he’s a kind, unselfish man with a good heart. He takes orders well, and will give them when necessary even though he’s not a natural leader. His peers view him as a highly intelligent individual. This isn’t entirely true, though he’s far from stupid. Rather, it’s simply the result of a unique talent that he possesses.

Skills:

“Every Item Has a Story”
With a mere touch, Rocca has the ability to learn much about an item’s history. For example, by touching a sword he could relive an account of a battle – any battle, so long as the sword “witnessed” it – from the perspective of the wielder of the weapon. This ability affords him access to all five senses. He can control when the ability activates

This ability comes with some restrictions. Roc can only relive a ‘memory’ if the item in question is in close proximity with an organic being whose senses he can ‘borrow.’ A sword would work even if the man wore gauntlets, for example, but a book carried along in a knapsack would not. This means that a journal, for example, is only an outlet when the writer is actively writing in it. Also, the memory is just that – a memory. Roc has no ability to influence the outcome of the event.

He has no combat skills to speak of. If placed in a life-or-death situation, he relies solely on basic instinct to survive.

History:

Rocca Ravara was born in Radasanth. His father was a cooper, but his mother was a skillful physician of noteworthy success. As a result, he had a comfortable youth that afforded him one of the better educations the city could provide. Truth be told Roc didn’t take naturally to scholarly pursuits, but he worked hard enough that he performed fairly well despite this.

He discovered his gift early in his childhood. Though he initially hid his talent from the eyes of any but his parents, he began earning an income of his own at a young age by aiding the city watch. Though he never engaged in combat, they came to rely on him for his ‘extraordinary perceptive capabilities.’ When he was fifteen his parents moved to a smaller town, seeking reprieve from the constant hustle and bustle of the big city. Roc, having already set down roots, stayed behind. Over the years, he turned his ability into a true livelihood. He was a detective of sorts, successful enough to hire a small team to aid him; these partners excelled in areas he did not.

Rocca’s life hasn’t been perfect, however. In the course of his detective work, the young man has seen memories of a number of things that he would dearly like to unsee. This has led to bouts of depression and heavy drinking. He was happily wed in his twenty-second year, only to see the relationship dissolve two years later in the midst of a particularly miserable episode (which didn’t help, of course). The marriage bore him no children.

To cope with his depression, Roc used his considerable earnings to fund a rather curious collection of assorted trinkets: rings, clothing, various pieces of armor or old weapons, and the like. These curios aren’t sought for their value; by and large, they have very little worth to the common merchant. Instead, the detective keeps them for their memories, which are noteworthy, entertaining or sentimental in nature. This has proven an effective method of staving off the gloom. He lives now in his twenty-eighth year, yet to remarry but largely content.

Noteworthy Items/Equipment:

Roc owns a growing collection of ‘memorabilia.’ These items are much more valuable to him than they would be to anybody else, and therefore cannot be sold; any weapons or armor would not be used for practical purposes.

For combat he owns only a small iron dagger, kept by his bed in case of emergency. Thankfully, he’s never had an occasion to use it.

I also humbly request that Roc be granted extra GP to reflect his success thus far in his career. The amount can be whatever you deem fair. Thanks!

This looks alright. As for your request for extra GP, it is not customary to award extra GP at profile approval. However, I will allow an extra 300 GP due to the fact that your character has no combat abilities and basically no weapons to speak of. But keep in mind that the GP amount doesn't necessarily correlate to the in-character wealth. Meaning that you are allowed to play your character as wealthy as you desire (within reason, naturally) regardless of the GP on your account.

With that note, you are approved. Welcome to Althanas.
