Due to Salvar's harsh climate and its inability to extend its aeromancy network to cover its entire landmass, all of Salvar outside of Knife's Edge is ruled by countless nobles who hold their land in the name of the King. These nobles may have control of a country estate, a small town, or a large business of some sort. It is important to realize that there are vast miles of dangerous land between each of these fiefdoms, and that the land only becomes manageable for farming when you approach civilization where the aeromancers do their best to make the climate milder. Every fiefdom has its own little rules and ways of levying armies, though all nobles are sworn to send troops to assist the King whenever he asks it of them. Most fiefdoms will have a small church where local representatives of the Church of the Ethereal Sway will provide religious services and report back to the King on how well the nobles follow laws and orders. This feudal system of government holds control of southern Salvar and both of its coasts. It should be noted that these lands are not as harsh as most outsiders assume—though they suffer from heavy winter snows and frosts, throughout part of the year they are free of snow and fairly mild. Once you travel outside of these lands, however, you are truly in the wild.
