I'm curious as to what everyone else here listens to when they write for Althanas.
I tend to listen to Arecibo Radio (http://areciboradio.com/) or Radio Rivendell (http://www.radiorivendell.com/index.php), or a playlist full of Silversun Pickups, deadmau5, and The Hives.
Your turn.

Good grief, far too many to mention. At the moment, though, I'm drawing a lot of inspiration from Future World Music, Two Steps To Hell, and Dreadzone for the mainly instrumental.
Interpol, Paul Banks, Julian Plenti, and occasionally a bit of Mumford & Sons (who seem to be the driving force behind Leopold and Ruby at the moment...something about Cornish men and cider drinking women just makes me gooey inside).
Kudos, though, BaBE, for enjoying the harmonious discord that is Silversun Pickups. Great Scottish band.
I have a Silversun Pickups playlist, too, alongside Modest Mouse, Dandy Warhols (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEwoYK1kQR0), Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Queens of the Stone Age, and some other odds and ends.
Then I have an Irish playlist for when I want to feel bouncy/appropriately celtic with the Pogues (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gc1G7aCpSsI), Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jw6qFeUBIE), Chieftains, and a hodgepodge of friends'/locals bands' music.
When I need to kill things I break out the Dead Kennedys (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJ7pgElCPXE).
I also listen to a ton of soundtracks, instrumental or otherwise. Current favorites are Amadeus, In Bruges, The Crow, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, anything from a Tarantino or Anderson film, and the score to Prince of Egypt always gets me feelin' epic.
I don't listen to music. it distracts me from my writing

Mine is mostly hardcore, screamo, and other forms of loud noise. My play-list is a mix of that, some loud rap, dubstep house and bass, anything and everything. Background noise is better for writing for me.

I don't usually like writing (or working, for that matter) to anything with lyrics; I find it distracting. Hence I go down the trailer music route (Two Steps (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=liEnxzM4fvs) From Hell (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OlgZSGlqLZY), Future World Music (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YftLJBLie8o), Immediate Music (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qkf7so6jEkU), Audiomachine (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9D4QIf4Ot7o), Mark Petrie (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-CMx5S8mZs), John Dreamer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1_p3q9x1h0), etc.) or classical (Shostakovich (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggWJ8G4ORno) being a particular favourite).
On the rare occasion I *do* write to lyrics, it's either cheesy 80s love songs (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1O-8Cm_uo5g) or cheesy 90s anime intros (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3pldR87cVvU). Sue me ^^.

I tend to listen to Vienna Classic Radio.
I typically listen to the gray area between rock and metal, haha. There's no particular playlist that I use... just whatever I happen to be enjoying at that particular time. Sevendust, Silent Season and Silvergun are some favorites. Truthfully I don't write well to it because I just end up listening to the music instead of getting anything done, but that doesn't stop me from trying.

I can hardly listen to anything with lyrics en anglais, so I either go with some ambient techno, or more preferably an orchestral sound-track, like from Lord of The Rings, or the game Shadow of The Colossus. I do occasionally enjoy certain Radiohead and Modest Mouse songs, when I'm going for something more melancholy. If I'm writing a badass fight scene, though, I will once in a while bust out the heavy metal; english or not, I usually can't understand them, anyways.
Also, Rammstein.
That is all.
I listen to hard rock, eerie rock, hardcore...
My most favorite bands are Falling Up (MY MOST FAVORITE BAND EVER!!!), Fireflight, The Letter Black (Formally known as "Breaking The Silence"; and I can't wait for their new album!), Thousand Foot Krutch, Skillet, StillWaiting, Icon For Hire, and Flyleaf (Formally known as "Passerby")*whew!*

Depends who I am writing. A Jolie thread or something with heavy action-based content is going to have some Seether, Three Days Grace, Disturbed, or similar. Emotional writing includes Adele, Florence + The Machine, Evanescence, etc. Funny threads, doesn't matter much, I can write sarcasm and irony to anything.
Revenant, I have to wholeheartedly agree with Dethklok. :P
I Ejaculate Fire!
And, as for normal writing with Thorne, I have a playlist containing the soundtracks from the Thief games, Planescape Torment and the Legacy of Kain games.
