Name: Mesta
Age: 23
Race: Shape-shifter
Hair Color/ Eye Color: Varies.
Height/ Weight: Varies.

Occupation: Rare Artifacts Hunter

Appearance:

Mesta has flown through so many shapes that she barely remembers her original, and on some days he becomes the more appropriate pronoun. These days, her preferred shape has been that of a handsome young woman, with an androgynous face, strong cheekbones and a sharp chin, with pale skin and dark eyes, and a wicked little smile perpetually on her lips.

Personality:

She is the little girl who says yes because she does not know how to say no. Yes and yes and yes, and she says yes to everyone with a smile on her lips and a tilt of the head, and sometimes her yeses even mean yes. Sometimes her yeses are really no in disguise, and sometimes they are maybe or dear lord, please repeat that or this is ridiculous, but still she cannot bear to say anything else. At the end of the day she is one darned good little tricky liar, but Mesta is a shape-shifter, and so that is in her nature and almost expected.

History:

Mother was a human through and through, so it must have been father who imparted the shape-shifter’s gifts to Mesta. Mesta wouldn’t know. Mesta had never met the man, and mother never spoke of him.

For as long as her memories could extend, Mesta had lived the life of a travelling nomad with her mother, stopping in cities or towns or villages for weeks or months at a time, taking what cleaning or cooking or sewing or even thieving work there was, earning enough gold pieces for the next stretch of the journey, but never staying long enough to settle. It was a tough life. Mother was a tough woman. It was a life fraught with learning and uncertainty and hunger, and the occasional lie and a rare case or two of violence, but it was the only life Mesta knew and she had never learned to want anything else.

Mesta was seventeen when mother could no longer travel on, when this strenuous way of life finally took its toll, and so mother settled into a cottage at the edge of Scara Brae, selling trinkets and information to those who chose to pass by her door. Mesta, though, chose to go on. The wanderlust had sunk its fangs deep into the marrows of her bones, and she could not stand still. But at least nowadays, she had a home to go back to on the rare days she needed a breather.

Skills & Abilities:

[Racial Ability] Shape-shifting: The trick to shape shifting is to know exactly what one is shifting into—all of it, from the length of one’s hair to the shape of one’s nails, to the pattern of the finger print on her little pinky and the workings of one’s intestines. If Mesta can learn to picture each miniscule detail, then she can become another person altogether, or even another species or animal (which is also dependent on the innards of that animal, and so a few dissections may be necessary). It is easier, then, to only partially change one external aspect of her current self than to become something else altogether. Mesta is currently at ease with three complete forms—her current shape, a roguish young man, and a sparrow. Between these, she is comfortable with adjusting facial features, limb lengths, or hair/feather colors here and there. However, it takes a few hours to get used to the new physical dynamos if she makes any major lingering changes (weight, height, gender, or anything that affects her center of gravity or the inner operations of her body).

[Skill] Dagger Wielding: Mesta has a deft hand with daggers. With a bit of luck, she can cut a few arteries or stab a few backs here and there.

[Skill] Physiology & Anatomy: She studies her anatomy and her physiology the hard and messy way, from the dead and injured and those somehow torn apart. She needs to study them to change herself.

Equipment/Collection:

[Equipment] Travel Satchel: A few changes of clothes (both genders), water, a bite of edibles, a handful of currency, a notebook of contacts, and a few trinkets.

[Equipment] Steel Daggers: A pair of undecorated daggers most often stashed up her sleeves or the sides of her travelling boots.

[Magical Artifact] Ring of Invisibility: A nifty little ring that grants the wearer half a minute (30 seconds) of invisibility. Any actions taken during the spell will break the invisibility. Once the magic has worn off, the ring needs to recharge for a random period between two to six hours before taking effect again. (Note: Cannot be sold.)

Two things.

First, you cannot sell the Ring of Invisibility.

And second, I would like you to make it so any action taken while invisible (like opening a door or trying to attack someone) breaks the invisibility.
