(This is a solo post so it's just little 'ol me. It's been a while so bear with me)

A shroud of darkness clouded her senses, as her electric blue orbs searched frantically for a sign of her companions. She closed her eyes tightly, forcing her thoughts to what seemed like an eternity ago. They danced and floated hazily from one memory to the next, unable to focus on any one detail. Her brow furrowed as she tried to remember, to FEEL something that would make the current events make sense. While her brain trudged through cloudy memories, her closed eyes caused her senses to burst to life.

Her pulse still raced beneath her dampened skin, as if she were still a midst the throngs of the battle, her breathe still staggered. But everything around her remained dark and silent. Too silent.

“Remember, damn it! Remember," she growled to herself through clenched teeth. How could this be?! She was just there with Oberon and Velius in that town! They had met opposition when trying to free the town from the men who ruled it with fear. Four men had flanked Oberon before Velius could escape his three attackers. Star was about to draw her sword and come to their aid, when everything stopped abruptly. Her hand still clamped solidly onto the hilt, ready for the withdrawal. Sweat still glistened in her golden locks and adrenaline still surged through her veins, urging her to continue the battle. But everything had turned a shade darker than midnight and she was suddenly very alone.

None of it made sense!

Her head was becoming hazier with every moment and she began to feel faint. She fought the sensation to give in, for Oberon and Velius' fate may rest in her hands. Instead she squeezed her eyes tighter together and attempted to hone her sense of hearing on anything that would make itself known to her. It was only then that a soft hum broke the stillness and a soft light began to shine in the bleakness.

“OBERON! VELIUS!!!” she cried out. “PLEASE! WHERE ARE YOU!?” Her voice trembled with fear and no echo repeated her plea. She kept still, knowing very well that darkness also meant immediate danger. She could not trust her eyes, for they could not see what was lurking just beyond their sight. She would have to allow her senses to guide her, believing them more than what her vision could offer. Meanwhile, her hand never left her sword, never trusting what waited in the blackness. She had learned this all to well and it left a scar across her neck as a vivid reminder to never let your guard down. The unknown around could contain everything from greedy thieves to vicious murderers who would just as likely cut your throat as steal your belongings. Nothing was sacred to them. Not to mention the wild and untamed monsters that lived for the sole intention of a bloody massacre. But she feared the animals less than the soulless people she had encountered on her travels with Oberon and Velius. She could at least understand the creature’s primitive desire for the hunt. But people… they were more unpredictable and much crueler. It was a learned behavior she had resolved, which made it even more heinous.

As she tried to listen for any sign of her dear friend's existence, the smell of metal crawled up to her nostrils and she recognized it immediately.

Blood.
