Pepita
02-11-13, 01:00 AM
Name: Pepita Rivera
Age: 25
Race: Human
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Black
Height: 5'9"
Build: Statuesque and Athletic
Occupation: Unintentional Survivalist (through necessity, not choice.)
Personality:
Spending the last 10 years in the woods with nary a human to be seen, Pepita's social skills are a bit rusty. Most of what she knows is taken from animal mannerisms and it will be a bit of a learning curve for her to understand greeting humans via sniffing their butts is not the way to go. Okay, maybe not that extreme, but she's definitely not the sweet and elegant social butterfly most women her age are supposed to be. Pepita is about as sophisticated as a slug.
Appearance:
There aren't a lot of shops in the middle of Lindequalmë (or any for that matter), so Pep has had to make do with whatever she could find in the abandoned wood mills along the edge of the forest. Some curtains, shirts off the bodies of killed explorers, ect. Needless to say she's not the most well dressed of women, but honestly she's lucky to be clothed at all. Most often she'll wear an oversized men's tunic she's scavenged off some poor fool and equally large pants that she keeps in place with a make-shift rope for a belt. As for physical appearances Pepita has long messy black hair and olive skin that is scattered with scars.
Skills:
-Trap Making: Pep's biggest key to survival is the plentiful bouquet of booby traps she's placed around her tree house.
-Botany: Since Pep is a vegetarian and living alone in the woods, being able to identify plants for food or medicinal values is important.
-Hand-to-Hand Combat: Fighting isn't Pep's strong suit but over the years she's learned how to defend herself long enough to escape to higher ground.
-Survivalist: Pepita has lived in the woods with only animal companions for 10 years, she's picked up ways to survive in the harsh environment.
Abilities:
-Fauna Empathy: Pepita has the ability to 'communicate' with wildlife via empathy. This is not via words or telepathy but rather feelings. She can sense how an animal is feeling and relay her own emotions to it. As for the strength of the connection, it is determined based on the nature of the creature (more tamable animals are easier to communicate with and come to her aid than a wild beast) and the familiarity she has with it (an animal that knows her well is more receptive than one she has just met.) She cannot force an animal to do anything but once she has built a strong connection with them, they will usually give her their support depending on their disposition. It is possible that this ability works with humans as well but if so it is extremely weak at the moment and untested, but she might discover it further down her journey, where the same rules will apply.
-Animalistic Athletics: Living amongst natures creatures in the wild has taught Pepita how to survive and she's taken on some of their methods. (Doubled human agility).
Flaws:
-Near Illiteracy: Pep learned the basics of reading and writing as a child but going so long without either has caused her to lose the majority of that skill.
-Hot Headed: Once she's worked up it takes a lot to bring her back down.
-Terrible Liar/ Secret Keeper: Don't trust her with any information you don't want everyone knowing.
Equipment:
-Steel pocket knife she took off a dead body in the woods.
-Tiny but elegantly made gold music box, belonged to her mother and is Pep's most treasured possession.
-Steel machete which she has for practical reasons but it also helps scare off any would be intruders.
History:
Pepita Rivera grew up with just her father in a small logging village outside the Lindequalmë forest. Her father was a traveling merchant who settled down in the are for reasons he never shared with Pep, including any talk about who her mother was. With it being just the two of them, she quickly learned to appreciate the outdoors and helping her father with his work however she could. Though the forest was off limits, she became comfortable with her world just outside of it.
Then, at the age of 15, an attack came in the night. She woke up the screams and the burning in her throat as smoke filled the air. Though she didn't get a good look, some sort of creatures were tearing through the town like a hot knife through butter, the ease at which they coordinated was unbelievable. Someone had thought to fight back with fire but it had gone poorly and now several homes, including her own, were now starting to take flame. Pepita's father hurried into the room and thrust a small bag of clothes, food and water into her arms then yelled for her to head into the woods because the way out of town was no longer an option.
Pepita spent two days hiding, shivering up in a tree. First she waited for the screams to stop, then for the fires to subside, and only then did she venture back. By the time she returned there was nothing for her there, no one left alive and nothing left to salvage. She could try to walk to the nearest town but that was a several days walk and as far as she knew the same thing could have happened there. Instead Pepita decided to take all that she had learned over the years and stay in the woods until someone came to find her. No one did, but eventually she adapted to life and moved deeper into the Lindequalmë, building a home in a large tree and slowly developing a strange bond with some of the animals there.
