Retirement has arrived for Joshua Cronen, at the very least as a PC. I'd like to write here again, but none of my current characters are really getting the juices flowing. I have a few ideas for new ones, and while I decide which should get Breaker's bonus EXP as a starting gift, I thought I'd warm up with a little IC benevolence.

I'll open a thread that involves a festival and day of competitions of some kind... it will be like a vignette contest in which you may need to make more than one post. The prizes will be items from Josh's inventory.

I'll post a list below. Bear in mind that if you want one of the more significant items, you may need to put in a significant effort (the Judge makes the final call on all spoils, unless I remember wrong or things have changed).

This should be fun, an interesting experiment, and potentially profitable for all. Who's in?

Edit: Josh's inventory

The Breaker Boots
Dehlar Sledgehammer
Dagger of Kron Sha'keth
Steel Bandit Brotherhood Tanto
Mythril Arrowhead
Dehlar Bastard Sword
Colt Anaconda
Prevaldia and Rywan Tomahawk
Angel Eye

(note: descriptions of these items can be found in my profile. These are just the more interesting ones, if there's something else in the profile you're interested in that's fine too.)

Does this mean you're returning to activity? Because that would be great.

I'm interested in participating in this farewell for Joshua. If possible, I'd like to claim the Breaker Boots. I always thought those things were cool.

Good to see you back, Numbers.

And I'd be up for this.

I'll second that, cutter, but I have my eye on claiming the Dagger of Kron Sha'keth.

Can always use a few more chivs, and I don't mind having to compete.

Man, this brings back memories. I have some interest in pretty much all of the items save the Breaker Boots and the Dagger of Kron Sha'keth. Primarily the BB tanto, for a nice little Hall of the Brotherhood I intend to have built with the new Bandit Retreat.

We can never completely let go of the past.

Yes Letho, the idea is to get me writing again (specifically on Althanas)... I just know better than to go promising a return to activity :P

It's nice to hear from everyone... this should be fun. I'll give it a bit more time before I draft my first post, see if anyone else is jumping no board.

I'd be interested in joining in, more for a chance to join the farewell of Cronen. Haven't ever had a good chance to write with you in the past. =)

I'd be interested in either the Dehlar Sledgehammer, Haidian blade, or Anaconda (though not as a weapon to fire bullets but something I can change to shoot magical bolts). However, writing just for the sake of writing would be fun too.

Welcome back, Numbers.

Sometimes, the best way to keep doing something you love (and are good at), is to have a fresh page to work with.

I dare say Joshua will always be part of Althanas, whatever you move on to do - :).

It would be an honour to fight for the Angel Eye, or, indeed, the Haidan Blade (given Mordelain is a Kukri fighter).

I'm in. I'm not sure the character, but I want to compete against Letho for those Breaker Boots. : D

If thats not what you intended by us competing, then I'll vy for something else. That ice statue seems nifty.

Dem boots

Seems like I have several senior members of the judging staff here... under these circumstances, how many posts do you guys think should be necessary for someone to get these items (especially the boots, Kron's blade, and the gun)? I'm hoping it'd be less than normal since I'm willingly giving them away, but I need some ballpark figures to plan the challenges. If there's an issue with the firearm it can always be disabled or something, and it will definitely run out of bullets.

And yes, it looks like there will be some competition for the boots, Sei. Which is awesome.

As long as the posts aren't really bad (which, lets face it, given the level of those competing for them, they won't be), I'd say maybe 3-5 posts from each competitor will be fine.

The firearm I would grant depending on the level of the person receiving it, and then dub whether or not its actually broken or now. A level 5 or higher would probably get it with some malfunctions, 10 or higher its fully functional, and below 5 its either in pieces or doesn't work at all. But Letho is more the expert at deeming levels necessary than I.

Hmm... I like your numbers, Sei. I'm gonna move forward with them as a base, unless somebody stops me. In which case you'll all be stuck doing follow up threads :P

Stay tuned for how it will go down.

Absolutely necessary double post.

Here is how it will go down. I'll post an intro - I might even make two or three posts using various accounts, because I'm ridiculous like that sometimes. I might just do one though. At any rate, my intro should give a good general idea of what's going on. Which will be... a festival! Food, drink, competitions and displays of skill of all matter. Anyone know of any springtime festivals in Corone? Name suggestions are welcome.

The "like a vignette contest" bit is that I'll be PMing each of you prompts that will look something like this - it's an example of what I would have PM'd to myself for the intro if I weren't able to read my own mind.

Post #: 1
Prompt: Josh wakes and goes about his morning.
OOC goals: establish that a festival is occurring in the city.
IC goals: Display the items which will later be collected by other players.

The presence of the "goals" are mostly to help hold the storyline together, but how you accomplish them will always be up to you, and may factor into who wins the big prizes, which I'm assuming will be sought after. We all may need to bunny each others characters at times, so if you're not up for that, don't bother signing up.

I've decided to add some mystique to the competition by making the signup secret at first. To sign up please PM me with the following information.

Character name and link to most recent profile
Items you are interested in 1st 2nd and 3rd most (this is so I make sure you get something you like in the event someone else wins your first choice)

Here is the updated item list.

Colt Anaconda (empty)
The Breaker Boots
Dagger of Kron Sha'keth
Angel Eye
Dehlar Sledgehammer
Dehlar Bastard Sword
Prevaldia and Rywan Tomahawk
Mythril Arrowhead
SSF Glacier Statue
Akashiman Redwood and Delyn short spear
Delyn throwing dagger
Haidian Blade
Steel Bandit Brotherhood Tanto
Steel/leather nunchaku

Particularly exemplary writing may also be rewarded with bonus GP from my account - we'll find an IC reason to transfer it.

The first ten registered characters (please use the account you intend to play with) that PM me will be accepted. Eight people expressed interest, so I left room for a couple lurkers. Only one character per person please. Registration will be closed 48 hours from now on March 20 12:00 AM EST.

UPDATE: Sign-up ends in 25 hours, and there are only 4 slots left open!

Silence Sei
03-18-13, 10:19 PM
Question, if those slots remain open, could we perhaps use alts to fill the four slots? Its okay if ot, I was just curious.

Breaker
03-18-13, 10:27 PM
Nah, we'll just have a few less people that way.

Silence Sei

K, sounds good.

Alright, we have 7 participants confirmed... so even tho I put an ambiguous 48 hour limit on signup, if anyone else wants to join in just shoot me a PM: I'm willing to take another 3 people on this, and will continue to until I either post the intro or have 10 participants.

In other news, look for this thing to be up and running by sometime this weekend. I'm extremely busy over the next couple days, so I don't want to promise anything any sooner. Thanks to everyone who signed up!

I'm slipping in with Tshael. :3

Alright, the first post is up, (http://www.althanas.com/world/showthread.php?25343-A-Final-Feast-(closed)&goto=newpost) though I will need to finish my intro with a post from Jake. Sorry this is taking so long, and thank you for your patience! Also, Manda brings our numbers up to eight. So I'm officially closing registration, although if you really really want in PM me and we'll work something out.

edit: I will stick to my original promise of having this running sometime this weekend. Once Jake's intro is up expect a PM with post order and plot suggestions.

Again really sorry for the delay. The way my schedule is filling up this may need to be something that advances at a glacial rate. I'll understand if any of you don't want to participate because of that, but I encourage you to stick it out. Cuz I want to give this stuff away.

Warpath

S'all cool with me, my own schedule is ridiculous so this is working in my favor.

Glacial is a pace I prefer anyways, so glacier-away!

There are only so many skirts on Althanas to look up, Aure.

That said, I'm still in. Glacial pacing works better for me anyway lol

I'm more concerned about keeping an eye on my back-passage while sitting near you, Babe. ;)

I'm still in! I'm going to be focusing on really jumping back into writing this week so hopefully I'll have my intro up soon! <3
